only problem with that, its wrong, since you are losing tension at 2 points. you need to wrap the lose end around that loop to get a blackwall hitch. this way you can pull, build up tension and wont lose any of it.

I am again ill and am working my way through the tarp videos which are very enjoyable. Thank you.

Hey! Your "start-in-an-uncomfortable-position-first" advice is a trick that also works in sports photography. Cameramen who have to use their body to "track" a predictable movement (horse race, for example) start the shot in an uncomfortable position for their body, then move with the action -- thus releasing the muscle tension to end up in a comfortable position at the end of the shot. It seems, in that case, the torque of the body helps smooth out camera movement from start to finish.

I learnt the knot years ago when helping set up a large marquee. Shown a couple of times and then told to do the remaining 30+ tie down points. It was ingrained in my head quite quickly. Repetition is the key. Although I use the more traditional method of tying it which is more handy when you have heaps of surplus line that you don't need to feed through, I do like this method for teaching. You can easily modify this method to have the line across before he pulls the loop through with the 3 finger grab.

5:43 I always tie a half hitch with that last loop just to be sure it holds. A half hitch tied with that loop doesn't have to be very tight, just snug, to prevent the rope from coming untied by accident by something tugging on the leftover line.

on a note of safety, one thing I always do for this is place a small stick into the final slip loop and pull it tight around it. this makes a safety catch so even if the line gets pulled (grabbed by accident, gets caught on something, or anything else) the knot can't slip out and make your cover collapse.
