I don't know if this is the best trucker's hitch demonstration video I've seen, but it's definitely my favorite! I love the toy truck and the carrots, but it's not all hat and no cattle, it clearly teaches how to tie the knot. Great job.
EXCELLENT demonstration! Yup, your sister is talented. I'm helping my daughter move in a few weeks and was looking for exactly this!
Thanks!
Hi, I am the proud knower (i just made the word up) of how to tie a truckers hitch, thanks to you. I love your video. Thank you.
First time ever bothering to comment on a video. Being hopeless at executing instructions I never thought I could learn to secure my load on the pick up. I would always marvel at the guys in lumber yards who could taut the ropes so tight.it looked liked rocket science to me.And yet there was light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks a million Priscilla .Clear precise instructions.A million likes from me.
Wow . She was so much better than any other vid!! I finally can understand! The bite and the loop.... was missing in all other vids. Thank you!
I seen so many videos on how to do this and this by far is the best one I seen maybe cause you teach 14 /15 year olds and use same teaching techniques on this video thank you so much
The visual aid with the toy truck was really helpful. Well done.
I've struggled so much with this knot and after watching a bunch of other tutorials, yours is the one that made the lightbulb go on for me. Thank you for your clarity (visual and audio.) 😀
This is by far the best knot instructional on TH-cam!
Finally someone that knows how to teach knots. 🙏
Exactly!!
That was the best knot video yet!
Yes. That was superb.
Thanks for the kind comments y'all! Cheers!
Wow God bless you seriously you have a way of teaching that only the Lord can give the wisdom I learned that not literally the first time you showed it thank you God bless you
Came back for a refresher in 2024, still the best demonstration.
Thank you so much, especially to Priscilla. My dad tried to teach me this since I was a kid, I'm 41 now. I have watched untold videos on how to tie it and it was all overcomplicated nonsense. You explained each and every step with crystal clarity, I watched it first last night and was able to tie the knot today at work. Thanks again
I’m an Eagle Scout. And OLD Eagle Scout, LOL. (70 yrs old). To this day I still utilize many knots I learned in scouting. However I’ve never heard/seen this knot. It is awesome, but what is more awesome is how you delivered the easy steps. You would make an amazing scoutmaster. Thanks! I subscribed & look forward for you to teach this old bird new tricks. Take care, stay healthy, God Bless.
Can’t tell you how many truckers knot videos I have watched. Finally one that I can actually use.
Thanks so much.
This is an incredible knot/hitch! I was moving some stuff with a friend, and they used this to secure everything in their truck. I was blown away by how tight it got! I tried to memorize it, but they didn't tell me the name.
Later, I found out about a variation called the Double Trucker's Hitch or Power Trucker's Hitch that uses another slip knot to double the mechanical advantage! Mind-blowing. I mostly use the standard trucker's hitch, but when I need lots more leverage, the double trucker's hitch is my go-to. It's especially handy for securing things to my bicycle - way better than bungee cords.
I wish I had known about this years ago when I used a motorcycle for long-distance travel. Back then, I struggled with expensive, bulky ratchet straps to secure my gear. The trucker's hitch with some paracord would have been perfect - cheaper, more versatile, and probably just as secure!
Thanks for posting your video and clearly demonstrating and giving terminology to each of the steps!
Thanks for the kind comment! The Double Trucker's Hitch sounds sweet; I don't know that one yet.
Best knot ever, been looking for it for some time. Thanks
This is a very useful knot. I learned it when I drove a truck for a building materials company. If you spin the loop a number of times before passing the bight through it it will be much easier to untie after you’re done with the knot. A second note, if you leave the loose end of the knot too long it can wrap around the wheels of the truck and become untied.
Good tips! Cheers, Dwain!
The best trucker's hitch tutorial. Step by step breakdown and detail explanation of each component right down to what a loop is. Thank you,
Thanks.
Its so good..
Thanks for your sharing guys
I just gandered @ this video and I 'twist' the loop before I put the 'bite' thru.....I have had problems before with loads loosening and this was a tip from an older trucker. I use my/his method for 45+ years and never a problem....ever THX
Congrats, lady! I'm watching knots, hitches etc. vids mostly for fun or household use. Have to say this ia one of the most methodical, plain and simple tutorial I've seen. Keep on doing this, you're good at teaching.
I have seen a lot of videos on the Trucker's Hitch and this is by far the best I have ever seen. She is excellent at presenting the instructions in a clear, precise, and a memorable way. She repeats movements and instructions in a way which makes the whole process memorable for when you need it.
That song will be stuck in my head every time I make that knot! Thanks for taking the time to make the video, 👍
I have looked a mass of video about truck knots, but this one is the best detailed explanation I could see. The gestures never hide the rope when the knots are made! Thanks to this, even a deaf (or someone from another language) can understand!
Congratulations for this "art" to show and explain!
Greetings from Belgium.
The best I have seen on how to tie a truckers hitch. Your kids will have a wealth of knowledge from you. Thank you.
As an Old Retired Maine who was a ropes instructor, I am totally impressed with your instruction video :) Good Job!!!
Thanks Tom! I teach for Outward Bound, so I've gotten to practice teaching knots quite a lot.
great demo! !! its the best knot in the world !! although over the years ive lernt a much quicker and easier way for me anyhow to tie this knot !!! also a good tip is if you put another loop threw the first loop and go down and back again if that makes sense you then mutiply your tension by like another 4 times !! my grandfather showed me that you can do this over and over and create enough pressure to break any rope !!!!
You can lift very heavy things, if there is anything to tie a rope on.
Awesome instruction. I'd watched several other videos and came away bewildered. Thanks for taking the time to do it step-by-step.
Thanks for the kind comment!
Hands down the best video I've seen done on this knot
That's just brilliant! You have shown the essentials-the loop and the bite. That's what i couldn't understand before i watched your video. Thanks s lot! Really helpful!!!
It has been so long since you made this video but I understood it right off. I didn't understand from other vidios so thank you.
I was struggling to master this knot until this video. What a great teacher. Done! I’ll never forget it now.
absolutely the best explanation i have seen on this knot. so may of videos are so quick and no explanation, takes a lady in the kitchen with kids to do what they guys couldn't do. good job. thanks.
THIS is the best explanation I've seen yet. Good stuff. Thank you
im glad to see someone show this simple method for the truckers hitch. only downside to this is the slip knot can jam up a bit on a really heavy pull. for the record, this actually makes a 3:1 mechanical advantage over the top of the load to your original anchor point. 2:1 on your second anchor point
Thanks.
No 2to1, and each subsequent hitch will double it!!!!!
Thank you so much, that was very well done. I use knots all the time in my work. I think the most important knots (for electricians anyway) are the clove hitch, half hitch, square knot, bowline and now the trucker's hitch! Clove hitch and half hitches for pulling cable through conduit. The square knot for joining two ropes ends. Bowline is a great lifting knot (won't cinch on the load but holds extremely well). All are so useful if you do any kind of work or rigging. Thanks again.
Thank you! The hardest knot I've learnt so far but the easiest to learn because your instructions were so clear! Thanks again!
Good clear explanation and demonstration with no babble and no music. GOOD JOB.
wow great teaching. you tought me a knot that i have struggle with for over 10 years in 5 minutes.
The information is very good. But This is hilarious. I can’t 🤣 the little truck. I know it’s just used as a teaching prop, but when she said if you’re going to drive on the interstate. 💀 all jokes aside I’m showing this to my son he’s constantly taking my ratchet straps and bungee cords.
I grew up calling this a "doorman's knot" . My dad used this knot to tie everything down on his truck, mostly garage doors and ladders. Our fixed point was always the rack on the truck so all of our ropes had slip knots on one end to loop the rope thru around the horizontal rack of the truck. Never had one break. It works best if the rope used stretches a little. Great video!
Great thank you Priscilla.Love,Pia.🥰🐈🙏
Use to make this trip several times a day hauling Sheetrock on a flatbed,
not any where near safe but it was the 80s
even drove 200 sheet loads to the Grand Canyon for 7 years
There is a reason I forgot this knot
Thank You for reminding of secure tie downs
Actually the Park Rangers would see if the load was secured, and drove the load to the Eltavar, that was not pleasant in the 80ss
Just wanted to say You are awesome at explaining these knots. Already knew the slip knot but was never explained the difference between a bite and loop. Thank you.
I have an overhead tarp that I can't tighten the tension on; and tie it off... Finally found out I needed a Trucker's Hitch; and this video was super helpful; hopefully tomorrow morning; I'll succeed. Thank you!
Very good you are by far the best instructor on the truckers hitch that I have seen
Priscilla your instructions were absolutely perfect I Thank God making it possible for great people like you and your brother via the internet to share your knowledge with the world!
I used to do this when I worked at a trucking station as a kid. I had forgotten about this and had to start over step by step again. Thanks!!!
I agree with Tom Nordquist this woman is an excellent teacher. I taught in the public high schools for years and watching other videos I came away believing that I was dumber than dirt. After watching this video my confidence in my ability to walk and chew gum at the same time is restored!
You were correct. Your special guest was fantastic. I had looked at four other videos before this and all went too fast and did not explain well. This demonstration allowed me to learn the knot really fast. Loved the fact that she went through it slowly and repeated the steps. Thanks.
Wow thanks so much Priscilla. Searched TH-cam for ages, but you made it seem so simple. Finally can do this myself!
Very clear and concise. No BS. Just a well laid out video with useful information.
Such a great explanation of trucker's hitch! I saw several other videos with fancy hand twists and could never get it - until I saw your video! Then it was crystal clear. Thank you
All the survival dudes out there and not one of them is a good instructor. This woman knows how to teach...great, and simple, instruction.
I love this video and the simplicity of this step by step procedure. Distinguishing between bight, and loop make it so easy to remember: ' Bight through loop, tie off with '4'. " Bam!
Thank you so much for making this video. There has to people like me in this world somewhere who have had a life long struggle with knots. My family, friends, co--workers etc., and I laugh. If things fall out of the Sky, it was probably me who tied the knot. When you see things on the side of the road, they probably came off my ladder rack. Rule #1, don't stand below me. Rule # 2, don't drive behind me.Rule #3 always laugh at yourself. Rule #4. ask all your family, friends, co-workers etc. to tie a knot left handed. A good place to start with is their shoes. Might be a fun thing to do at a party. Your prop/carrot truck and simple way of teaching helped me a great deal. To all my left handed friends in the world who struggle with simple things from time to time and still laugh..................... I could never figure out why they put all the left handed desks in college at the back row? !0% of the people in this world are left handed I think. For those of us who went unheard because we were so far away from the teacher in class, , we often wondered if we would master knot concepts faster if the teacher put a mirror in front of their hands and let the left handed people sit behind them and watch the mirror instead. To date, I have never met a teacher to attempt such a backwards way of teaching. . I didn't graduate at the top of my class. but one day, I day I forgot my reading glasses to read the directions on a can of paint. I had 2 pairs of 1.25 in my truck so in my left handed thinking, I thought to myselff,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, what if I put both pairs on at the same time? Basic math I thought is that 1.25 x 2 is 2.5 which is readers. It worked...................Again, my sincere thanks for you way of teaching.
I came back to this many times. Worked as a carpenter when I was a kid then in my mid thirties I forgot how to do it. It is such a handy skill thanks. In a year I'll probably forget again see you then.
You made every other trucker hitch video make sense. Thanks
You're a great teacher Priscilla! And your family is so sweet.
I've been tying trucker's hitches so long I swear I tied one in my umbilical cord on the way out but this is far and away the best explanation I've heard for how to do one. Cheers, great vid.
Great teacher.
Great tutorial. Thanks
Greetings from Saudi Arabia.
Fantastic! Thanks for a clear, foolproof, demonstration. Some people tend to gloss over various bits in their demonstrations, presumably because they've tied it so many times without thinking about it?
Really very good explanation. Your sister did very good demonstration, pauses at right time to explain again. I watched many videos but could not get clear view or clear steps. They tried their best in one place and speeds up to finish video so hard to understand for first time users.
I use this knot all the time. It's especially useful when camping and you have to string a long length of rope for your tarp. It can be 100 feet long, and you can pluck it like a guitar string. Great vid.
On almost every occasion in Australia where some people attach something to a vehicle, someone at some point says "That's not goin' anywhere" meaning the load is considered secure. It's said almost as an atheist blessing to the God of loads (although I doubt anyone even notices themselves saying it). I felt the overwhelming urge to say it myself once that last knot was made :)
Best Mum (Mom) ever!
And nice veggies to plate delivery system!
Thank you for this .... now I want you to teach me everything! Great instructions ...we learned a new skill !!! 🤘🤘
48 yrs old, been driving trucks for over ten years now and never new how to tie a rope until i watched this video. Thanks for your help. How would i tie up draws to stop them falling out when moving house instead of using tape?? Could you please help at all?
Great demo...i looked at others..and they did nothing for me...You are a gifted teacher for this demo.
best video i saw on tying knots.even a 60 year old like me can learn it .thanks
Amazing. Ive tried this so many times without success, now i have mastered it thanks to you. Great teacher.
Thanks Speedy!
I just learned this knot yesterday to a gain leverage when hauling up a sail. However, small difference in sailing is that knots get wet, the line swells and it doesn’t want to pull out to release. If you’re working in wet conditions you can wrap the loose end of the line behind the loop once or twice before slipping the bight through the loop. 😁
Very useful thank you
I watched several videos on the truckers hitch. Your was very easy to grasp. Great job!!!
Clear illustration & demonstration with some humor thrown in. We subscribed!
Hi....... Art and Bri. Thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👋 🎥👍👍👍
I have never met an old trucker who used this (modern guys have strops). I was taught to use the sheepshank as the wagoner's/ truckie's knot. It is more reliable and comes free with the flick of your hand and gives a stronger leverage all up.
Thank you thank you thank you Priscilla!!!
Seriously....the best explanation out there in the TH-cam universe. Thank you.
Excellent video. I’m from Germany and have to translate everything in my head. The little truck really brought the point across where this knot comes from. Also good Information about that 2 to 1 pulling effect. Great 👍
Very well demonstrated. You might like to know that what you call a 'figure 4' knot is also known as a slippery hitch - a basic overhand knot with a bight rather than the end going through the loop and tightened down. If you use a peg (or marlinspike) through the bight which you then pull tight onto the peg it becomes a marlinspike hitch.
The kids and the cookies made it perfect!
Can we just appreciate that CARROT WRANGLER and the creative way we “saw” in the before video he NEEDED Priscilla’s help learning the Trucker’s Hitch knot? After he tied down his pile of important produce, he went on his merry way with not a care in the world, safely and quickly getting down the “mountain”.
Shout out to Priscilla… one can tell she’s fun to do ANYTHING with: camping, canoeing, and most importantly, traveling down the road.
She is a great teacher.
Nice explanation. The 'tail end' is called the 'bitter end' on shipboard. You are tying off with two slipped half hitches which are very secure. There is an old saying "two half hitches saved the queens ship."
Fantastic teacher!!! Pricilla for the win!
Nice presentation. I use this knot all the time. Many years ago,a man I purchased hay from showed it to me.
The best brake down I've seen and so easy to follow.
Great video. She made it so easy. She goes slowly, and explains it all.
Are there any more knots she can show us. Bravo!
Thank you. This was very helpful.
great demonstration on a knot my husband uses frequently, he's such a boy scout thats why i love him. 😍
Subscribed. Your explanation is so easy to understand ! Thank you!
By far the best explanation I have seen. There are some really bad ones out there.
Great explanation and demonstration of, probably, the most useful rope trick ever! Thank you!
Thank you for an awesome presentation! Pricilla made it very clear to me how to do this. I've seen other instructional videos on this subject and all I did was get the 'deer in the headlights' look...thank you again!
you are a good teacher. should look in to it, going to be a kick ass mom if you ever want to be one.
I been doing it wrong for 50 years. Thanks.
Cute family.😀😀😀
Excellent teaching! Thank you!
