    Two reasons for this to happen.
    1 they left the hose connected.
    2 it was installed with back slope.

    I had the exact same problem. Tenant left the hose Connected during the winter. They moved out in the spring time and boy did I have a surprise.

      Happened to me one time too. My own fault as I left hose connected all winter. Washed my motorcycle first warm day of spring and dumped water all over the basement floor. What a mess.

    Don’t leave the hose on it in freezing temperatures it will rupture like that. Also it should be sloped properly.

      100%. We've just avoided using this faucet for like 6 years cause it's been leaking since we moved in. 😂

    Thankfully, mine were screwed into a drop ear fitting, easy to replace when it burst during freezing temperatures. Yes, there was a hose left on it.

    Did you notice the discoloration on the copper? Copper should not be in contact with brick or mortar. Copper reacts chemically with some materials. Instead make the hole slightly larger for a piece of pvc to span the thickness of the brick. The leak was caused by freezing weather, however it was on its way to failure due to corrosion.

    Frostproof until you leave the hose connected so the water can't drain.

    I've never seen or heard of one of those in the UK. Our frost protection is a foam insulating cover on the tap.

      How often does the temperature go below the freezing point of water. For me (in Pennsylvania USA) this can happen for weeks between January and February however there also can be a cold spell anywhere between November and April where its below freezing for a day or 2.

      That's it? I'm surprised. In VT, it's late Nov through April you could have frozen outside pipes

    You must disconnect the hose from the spigot prior to the first freeze..... also if its not installed in a pitched position, it won't drain and can freeze...

    • @elijahlevine2310
      @elijahlevine2310 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No you should get one if you have cold winters, this happened because the homeowner probably left a hose on that wasn’t drained or left a diverted in the closed position

  • @Werdna12345
    @Werdna12345 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There’s a good chance it wasn’t sloped down to make sure it always drains outside so there’s no water to freeze and burst the pipes

    Why do they seal up the wall where the spiget is inside the house. They should leave a little door so you can get easy access to it.

  • @Tonytone-bv8eq
    @Tonytone-bv8eq 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The real problem is it's sloping towards the house rendering the Frost-free technique virtually ineffective and subject to damage

    That happens when you leave hoses on and it gets below freezing. Hose bib did its job just fine…

    • @DebtFreeDIY
      @DebtFreeDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know my walls are opened up right now and I didn't see much mold thankfully. I figured it would look terrible. It probably depends on how much it's been used in that state.

    Currently facing the same situation where I have to replace the hose bib. I'm on a slab and it's a new build, so the hose bib connects to pex with it crimped.
    I may have to cut into the drywall and create an access point to get to it.

  • @darlinglujan2179

    Can this be repaired by oneself or is a plumber needed?

    • @DebtFreeDIY
      @DebtFreeDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how it's installed. If it's been soldered together solid you might want a plumber but sometimes they've been threaded in and then I'd say it's a typical DIY job. So I'd say it depends on your home.
