If you go back and listen, she never says that he's the love of her life, but that's how he always referred to her, even though he never followed through on any of his promises or even acted like she WAS the love of his life. But in her reflection in the aftermath, he's the loss of her life. I swear, every listen, I feel new emotions. Absolutely gut-wrenching!

Except this song is about Matty Healy and Cornelia Street was about Joe. "Mr. Steal your Girl, then break her heart," because Matty talked her away from Joe by love-bombing her and then ghosted her (so many references to ghosts in this one)
Yes exactly. I cannot believe how many Taylor Swift fans don't see how obviously differently she feels about the breakup with Joe compared to this loml type sentiment. So Long London and You're Losing Me are clearly Joe. How she felt with Joe also is in Fresh Out The Slammer and a few others are hints. Loml is Matty in so many ways. @elizabeth5985
“Dancing phantoms on the terrace, are they second-hand embarrassed, that I can’t get out of bed because something counterfeit’s dead?” Wrecks me every time.
I think the loss of my life line is referring to the loss of the dream he sold her. Which is why she feels embarrassed that’s she’s mourning something that never really existed.
I took “loss of my life” to mean that with all of the promises he made and things he said she started imagining/planning their future together so when he left she lost this life that she had been planning. There is a quote that by a guy named Søren Kierkegaard that says “The most painful state of being is remembering the future, particularly the one you'll never have.” and that’s what her saying “you’re the loss of my life” makes me think of.
I always thought this was a little about Joe (stand up guy) and Matti (low down boy). Cinephile (Joe) Mr Steal Your Girl (Matti). Both made promises they didn’t keep and strung her along.
@@DawnR3ne3 yes! Same with but daddy I love him, I think it’s Joe, then Matti and after f it it’s over, it’s about Travis. Both Joe and Matti made her promises and broke her heart.
Absolutely agree. She mixed up the muses on a lot of the songs. My hot take was the "loss of my life" was really more about her dream of finally having "the one" and starting a family. She was shit talked by both of the guys into thinking they had something with a future, and she felt like she wasted her youth so that dream was out of reach. It ties back to So Long London and the Prophecy.
The way my jaw dropped when Evan said loss of my life at the beginning!!! We were all on a different ship, & as soon she dropped that bomb on us on the last line. We were all destroyed! Meanwhile Evans over here like a damn psychic😭👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It took me so many listens of this song to be able to get through it without ugly crying. I'm so glad you reacted to this song, thank you! I love your videos - all the way from Australia 😊
Taylor's lyrics in loml, are exceptional, even for her, as her lyrics are always amazing. So sad for what she went through, and so happy she's now with Travis. They seem well suited, and happy together! Many songs on TTPD seem to be about this guy. If you go from loml, I Can Fix Him, imagonnagetyouback, The Black Dog, The Bolter, Florida!!!, and last, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, which reflects her most current feelings in lyrics. She's so gifted lyrically. Hopeful, Travis is her final "1".
I think the loss is this dream of finally finding your soulmate and have the happily ever after, and then just have that dream ripped away before it becomes anything substantial. It isn't just the relationship that dies, but also all the possibilities that were connected to it and that could have lived on if they never tried to realize the relationship. I try not to speculate too much about her personal life, but the short (although long thought of) relationship comes right after the slow deterioration of her longest relationship and I would think that kind of compounds the pain. "Are they second-hand embarassed that I can't get out of bed 'cause something counterfeit's dead" is one of the hardest lines I have ever listened to from her, I sometimes get teary-eyed just thinking about it. Ugh.
Yesss I think that's something people often miss when they talk about "the Matty songs". Your rebound relationship after a deep, meaningul and long relationship with a bad breakup is especially painful, because it's like a wound on top of another wound that never really closed, and that's why it hurts even worse. Anyone who's ever jumped straight into another relationship after a bad breakup knows that that second breakup is so much harder. It's like compounded pain.
the best lyrical parallel between verses here that i haven’t seen anyone mention is “I felt aglow like this Never before and never since” from verse 1, then “But I felt a hole like this Never before, and ever since” from verse 2. the first time i noticed the switch from never since to ever since, in reference to different feelings, i was in shock and had to fully pause and digest. so subtle, yet so powerful. this song is full of some of taylor’s best writing yet and very underrated imo.
The live version in Paris show in May, it was heartbreaking, so beautiful 🤍I didn’t really noticed the song in the album until she sang in Paris at the piano
I really enjoy your reactions. The only people where I don’t mind the stops because you always have interesting things to say. I have been binging for a few days now. Love the channel , love the guy on the bottom.. lol
I think Taylor is at an age right now where she is feeling her biological clock ticking, she wants to have a family and somebody acting like they want it to but then making fun of that fact behind her back, and then just ghosting her after telling her they could have that, it probably felt like the loss of her life at that time because it wasn't just the dude that she was losing. Like, the dude is one thing but the promise of a lovely life together with a family, that's a whole additional thing to mourn. She was literally losing that life that she'd dreamed about with that person. I really wish people wouldn't pretend to want those things to get what they want from somebody and then just bail when they've gotten it. Its the very definition of cruelty.
It almost sounds like he was "future faking" something narcissistic people do to draw people in and then when you try to hold them to their word they freak out. It's so painful.
Especially since now she is always going to wonder if she could have had that with Joe if Matty hadn't been there as an exciting hope at the lowest point of their relationship (Mr steal your girl, then made her cry) 😭😭😭 Obviously it wasn't working out with Joe, but having a third person in the mix had to have added HUGE stress to the entire situation. I think it's that realisation at that point that now she needed to really, really start from scratch with someone new, and her time is now finite for having her own biological family. The more times I listen to the entire double album, the more I hate ratty Matty 😤
Love your reactions. For a woman of a certain age, the timeline to having a baby is often on the brain (“gotta find the right guy, we have to be together for x time before we can try for a baby,” etc.). We don’t want to admit we do it but we do it. To have maybe thought her 6yr relationship would achieve that only to have it fail and then rekindle a relationship with Matty Healy only to have it spectacularly fail - it’s a lot of loss. No partner, no marriage, no babies, no family, just more loneliness. Also, the jalapeño comment!😹🫶🏽
Guys just please do more and more and more and more taylor reactions we just cant stand to wait. It's like a torture to us to wait this much everytime 😂 And please So Long, London for the next one maybe 😊
The Smallest Man is believed to be about the same person only it’s the bitter/angry version. Be great to do that one next. It’s epic on the eras tour. Taylor gets shot and dies at the end (in the performance obv)
@@BlairandGeorgie It's for sure Matty. This whole song is about being love bombed and she says in the poem that comes with the album that Matty did that. Also, why would she say about her 6 year relationship with Joe that it was "momentary" and "unnecessary"?
Glad to see that I’m not the only one with this thought process. The only word linking to Joe is cinephile, but Matty definitely is one too (see the black and white esthetic of videoclips and the artwork of The 1975).
I’ve listened to this song once since it was released, bc the new album came out after week after my breakup lol but this was the perfect way to revisit the song. Her poetry and lyricism is so good in this one 🖤 Alex’s face at loss of my life was exactly how I reacted the first time 😂
I think I understand what you were trying to say there at the end 😂 like the tone and melody stay mild, and her voice, they all stay the same sort of the whole way through. But the lyrics are a different story. The lyrics definitely burn more than a jalapeño 😭😂
For me this is one of the saddest songs on the album. The reaction at the end was Priceless. It’s exactly what I did first time I heard it and I couldn’t stop listening to it. He hyped her up for marriage and cradles and then just lost interest but she stayed past the end trying to get it back. So I believe she felt she lost out on the marriage and babies. It’s so so darn heartbreaking
Another great reaction! Your guys comments were spot on with the direction of the song! I think she is a genius for using “loml” when it’s intended to mean love of my life but changing it to loss of my life. Can’t wait for more reactions off the new album ❤️
The song that she wrote about Ronan that just broke my heart it was so sad he was only 3 years old when he passed away I'm happy that the family wanted to share that memory of her son Ronan❤
This was such a incredible reaction you guys I felt this song in my soul I cried listening to it and then agin watching it with you guys the lyrics that I relate to because I kinda lived it mixed with white horse but from loml these lyrics hit: If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary You and I go from one kiss to gettin married Still alive, killing time at the cemetery Never quite buried In your suit and tie, in the nick of time You lowdown boy, you stand up guy Holy Ghost, you told me I'm The love of your life You said I'm the love of your life About a million times Who's gonna tell me the truth When you blew in with the winds of fate And told me I reformed you When your impressionist paintings of Heaven Turned out to be fakes Well, you took me to hell, too And all at once, the ink bleeds A con man sells a fool a get-love-quick scheme But I felt a hole like this Never before, and ever since
There’s another lyric of loml that doesn’t move is darker and more pleasant to read? She sings (he said, you’re the love of my life) She sings (you’re the loss of my life). I’m happy she met Travis, it’ll be nice, when her European Tour Ends in Dec, and she can be at home n relax a bit with him in KC, while he’s training n getting ready for the football season! Thanks guys, always enjoy your convos before, during n after her songs, great guys!
Alex had the exact same reaction that I did the first time I had hear it and she then comes out with Loss of my life. My jaw dropped and I had a big gasp 😅 I'm ready for you guys to doThe Smallest Man Who Ever Lived next!
What kills me is she leaves four music counts empty on the last line: "You're the loss of my life," 5, 6, 7, 8 Like how the relationship ended suddenly in a "bland goodbye"? I gasped at the end like you guys did. Good for you for looking up words! Gotta have a dictionary with blondie. This is about Matty Healy; a lot of the album is. He love-bombed her and ghosted her.
The fact that this guy she is singing about wrote songs about her. Contacted her and emailed her over a ten year span. And then once he had her, treated her badly and then ghosted her would make anyone spiral. Especially, since she finally got out of her old not working relationship to be with him. He really played the long con there. I would never trust anyone again.
She's had her heart broken so many times. It's really sad. This song is very sad. She had a relationship with John Mayer for a while. She wrote a song about him. I think it's on her Red album Taylor's version. 😢
this song is abt her previous 6 years long relationship wt joe alwyn (an actor - that's why the "cinephile" mention) and how he spent the whole relationship promising marriage and kids and it never happened
See, I think it's about Matty Healy and how he love bombed her and made the promises to her Joe wouldn't. -They moved too fast to all in like " One kiss to getting married." and " a get love quick scheme" -"We were just kids, babe." Referencing when they were first romanticly linked 10 years ago. - The cemetery references they shouldn't have tried to make their situationship become a relationship. Especially with moving so fast, they nothing really change. - "Mr. steal your girl. And make her cry." Hints to the making those promises Joe wouldn't make. But then, not following through. Same with the "something counterfeits dead." - The coming in and love bombing her before ghosting her. "what a valiant roar. What a bland goodbye." - And even the cinephile line could reference Healy being a big movie guy. And many 1975 songs being inspired by John Hughes movies. And Healy has worked on a lot of soundtracks.
@@brandyanderson3522 I agree with everything you said, except...""Mr. steak your girl"! 90% of the album is about Matty, when you hear words like smoke, pills, drugs, reform, they all scream Matty! Joe couldn't even get a staring roll on his own breakup album!

The song that she wrote about Ronan that just broke my heart it was so sad he was only 3 years old when he passed away I'm happy that the family wanted to share that memory of her son Ronan❤
I’ve been waiting for you to do this one!!
I had to wait to react to this one to be in the right mind set.... this song is an emotional one me for sure! Connect with every damn word
MISSED YOU BOYS!!!
One of my top 5 from the new album(s). It gets better with every listen. Those lyrics cut so deep !
This was such a incredible reaction you guys I felt this song in my soul I cried listening to it and then agin watching it with you guys the lyrics that I relate to because I kinda lived it mixed with white horse but from loml these lyrics hit:
If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary
You and I go from one kiss to gettin married
Still alive, killing time at the cemetery
Never quite buried
In your suit and tie, in the nick of time
You lowdown boy, you stand up guy
Holy Ghost, you told me I'm
The love of your life
You said I'm the love of your life
About a million times
Who's gonna tell me the truth
When you blew in with the winds of fate
And told me I reformed you
When your impressionist paintings of Heaven
Turned out to be fakes
Well, you took me to hell, too
And all at once, the ink bleeds
A con man sells a fool a get-love-quick scheme
But I felt a hole like this
Never before, and ever since
There’s another lyric of loml that doesn’t move is darker and more pleasant to read?
She sings (he said, you’re the love of my life) She sings (you’re the loss of my life). I’m happy she met Travis, it’ll be nice, when her European Tour Ends in Dec, and she can be at home n relax a bit with him in KC, while he’s training n getting ready for the football season! Thanks guys, always enjoy your convos before, during n after her songs, great guys!
Alex had the exact same reaction that I did the first time I had hear it and she then comes out with Loss of my life. My jaw dropped and I had a big gasp 😅
I'm ready for you guys to doThe Smallest Man Who Ever Lived next!
I love your taylor reactions❤
What kills me is she leaves four music counts empty on the last line: "You're the loss of my life," 5, 6, 7, 8
Like how the relationship ended suddenly in a "bland goodbye"?
I gasped at the end like you guys did.
Good for you for looking up words! Gotta have a dictionary with blondie.
This is about Matty Healy; a lot of the album is. He love-bombed her and ghosted her.
omggg you should give a reaction to how did it end? too 💘
The fact that this guy she is singing about wrote songs about her. Contacted her and emailed her over a ten year span. And then once he had her, treated her badly and then ghosted her would make anyone spiral. Especially, since she finally got out of her old not working relationship to be with him. He really played the long con there. I would never trust anyone again.
Maybe the "loss of her life" is losing the ability to trust another person?
I'd love a reaction to "The Manuscript" from Taylor.💜💜💜💜
The lack of pauses says it all! Such a gorgeous song
She's had her heart broken so many times. It's really sad. This song is very sad. She had a relationship with John Mayer for a while. She wrote a song about him. I think it's on her Red album Taylor's version. 😢
I showed my friend this album and when she got to this song she just texted me "loml is hell" and yeah that's the right reaction lol
Her lyric videos also give more context to the meaning of the song
Like you said , he gaslighted her to live of my life, and she gaslighted “loss of my life”. No fanfare. No sadness no drama, no big loss
this song is abt her previous 6 years long relationship wt joe alwyn (an actor - that's why the "cinephile" mention) and how he spent the whole relationship promising marriage and kids and it never happened
See, I think it's about Matty Healy and how he love bombed her and made the promises to her Joe wouldn't.
-They moved too fast to all in like " One kiss to getting married." and " a get love quick scheme"
-"We were just kids, babe." Referencing when they were first romanticly linked 10 years ago.
- The cemetery references they shouldn't have tried to make their situationship become a relationship. Especially with moving so fast, they nothing really change.
- "Mr. steal your girl. And make her cry." Hints to the making those promises Joe wouldn't make. But then, not following through. Same with the "something counterfeits dead."
- The coming in and love bombing her before ghosting her. "what a valiant roar. What a bland goodbye."
- And even the cinephile line could reference Healy being a big movie guy.
@@brucebrown3837 Haha, thanks. Honestly I think that midnights was Joe's breakup album. She just wasn't ready to admit it yet maybe not even to herself.
I can do it with a broken heart lyric video is THE BEST!!!
personally i think this is the most devastating song she's ever written (ronan and soon you'll get better not included for obvious reasons). the tone of her voice plus the lyrics honestly haunts me
Jalapeño (Taylor’s Version)
"I'm (Matty) the love of your (Taylor) life" is how I imagine it played out in real life. I can definitely see him being charmingly ambiguous with his words.
quick, swifties! who's going to pay them to react to Long Live (eras tour or TV) because I'm broke after spending all my money on the Eras Tour lol 😭
They have a really sweet reaction to the mashup of long live and new years day from the rep tour
You guys should react to the best day (Taylor’s version) by her
This is top 5 for me for The tortured poets department ❤❤❤
100 commenter
💯
oh ouchhh c spot time?
well i guess not for you guys but definitely for me 😭🤣
🤣 Jake can’t cry in every Tswift video -E
Have you gyus ever reacted to Cardigan, you'll be blown away, it's the only single from the folkrore album that won a grammy for album of the year ❤❤❤❤❤
I just don´t know how someone could read those lyrics , listen to those melodies , see the way she has to tell stories , the words , the analogies she uses ... and say she is not a VERY TALENTED musician and one of the best song writers of our time .... I will never trust those people hehe ..... good reaction
same
My latest listen. I’m wondering if the lyrics are going back and forth between the two. Like she’s talking to Joe in one line. Then she turns her head and says something to small matty.
So Long, London and Peter was sadder for me. Love this song either way
we might need a jalepeno popper after that sad one.lol
Heartbreaking thinking this is what she was going through at start of eras tour
Check out the Prophecy!
Some other good songs to react to from the album:
So long, London
The prophesy
How did it end?
The albatross
The tortured poets department
Down bad
You guys have to react to the folklore trilogy: august, cardigan and betty
It was legendary
It was momentary
It was unnecessary
Should've let it stay buried
Summons her entire journey with matty
someone please make them react to the smallest man who ever lived !!
Definitely Taylor jalapeno!
