    It's most likely about both Matty and Joe. There are obvious references to both. The first part screams Matty, towards the end it's more Joe coded. Imo it can be understand as if she was in such a bad place after the break up that she was the "perfect victim" for Matty. He promised her everything she always wanted from and with Joe. As she immediately got with Matty she never could process her relationship ending. So after the desaster with Matty she had to mourn and deal with 2 break ups at once and is realising at the end that after all Joe was the loss of her life.
    The prologue gives great insight and basically explains the same.

    I think this is about Matty. Al through her relationship with Joe Matty was love bombing Taylor (told her she was the love of his life, shit talked her under the table) he promised her everything she’s ever wanted. But when she left Joe and went to Matty, none of the promises was true. When she says something counter fit was dead she’s realizing that none of it was reel.

    This is about Matty. There are so many pics of him in a suit and a tie and how the relationship was momentary and it was quick like the kind of relationships where you get so caught up in it and you talk about marriage and babies and she knew it was dying because his words weren’t matching his actions and he has the somber eyes. He got her by telling her she was the love of his life and in that legendary moment, she was.

    Definitely about Matty (many clues, one of which is the suit and tie, but also the 'childhood' connection). And honestly... the passion. The Joe songs are sad in a very... sane way. Sometimes a little anger coming through. But the Matty songs are like... it was short, you lied, we were going to get married, you're a low life, and you BROKE me. That said, I believe there could be a little of the same sentiments shared between the two. And just like everything she offered us, there's a little of everything in every 'corner' of it all.

    Unpopular opinion: paternity testing these songs detracts from their universal power and emotion. Taylor has said dozens of times that her hope is that when people hear her songs, it becomes about their relationships, not hers. Which is why, as a 62 year old man, her songs can bring me to tears and joy and take me on the journey with her.

    Definitely about Matty 100%. She said it in the beginning of this song “your suit and tie” (same as TSMWEL: Jehovah’s Witness suit). He completely love bombed her from 2014-2023. She and Joe broke up, she ran to Matty. (“fresh out the slammer”). Matty is the tattooed man in the songs, he was an alcoholic, took pills, they wrote letters to each other for many years. She basically gave him the key to her heart and exactly what to say to her to make her fall in love with him because she confided in him about the troubles she and Joe had. Matty truly did talk extremely poorly/disrespectfully about Taylor during an interview he gave that was highly inappropriate (while they were dating!) but totally denying that he said any of it. Its literally still in print. 🙈
    It’s such a beautiful song for a really awful person who doesn’t deserve this beautiful sounding song. He was absolutely her plan B after Joe. They talked about marriage, kids, everything. She was extremely excited. So she went through 2 huge breakups at the beginning of her Era’s Tour. No one really knows when she and Joe broke up (we think during Covid 2020-2021 due to the songs on Folklore that were supposed to be fictional). “You’re Losing Me” is a tie to her line in another song on this album that she says that she stopped CPR, a callback to that. Most of this album is about Matty. All but 3 are for Joe, 2 for Kim/Kanye and 3+/- about Travis. 2 definitely about him, and he’s indirectly mentioned at the ending of a few, too. I’m shocked that this album was basically for Matty. No one was privy to the fact that they stayed in touch after their rumored relationship in 2014. She sings that she wove him into many poems over the years. Knowing that “The 1975” has a hit song “Robbers”, a lot of songs from Reputation (and Evermore and Folklore) immediately came rushing into my mind. Ready for its bridge, the opening lines. Ugh. 🙈😫

Like what she did for Stay, stay, stay or I Did something bad or Getaway Car...where she will talk about an ex for the 1st half and then ANOTHER EX for the next half of the song.

    Beautifully sad lyrics. Loml is one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs. I think it's not about Joe, but about a guy she first met over 10 years before and they were off and on in between. Taylor says they were just kids, back then, in her lyrics. I think that this guy may have had issues that kept them apart. 10+years later, she believed he had grown up, and was ready to try again. Unfortunately noone told Taylor there were still issues. This guy wasn't strong enough to fight for their love, or put up with negative media, so he pannicked, ghosted her, and denied their love. 😢
    A few parts may reflect Taylors disappointment in the 6 year relationship with Joe ending, thinking they too could have had it all, love, marriage, children. I think most of the lyrics point to the other guy. Happily, Taylor found Travis Kelce.❤ I don't want to say who I think the "guy" is, except it's not Joe, as they were not kids when they met. 😢

  • @emmavink
    @emmavink 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    No no, this is definitely not about Joe. It's about Matty Healy.
    Joe didn't love bomb her then drop her like a hot potato when he got what he wanted.
    Matty wears the suit and tie in so many music videos and performances. He's know for it.
    Taylor has never referred to Joe as a boy in any of the songs she's written about him.
    Joe didn't promise marriage and babies and then never followed through with it.
    Joe wasn't a coward and Taylor hasn't said anywhere else that she was ever embarrassed being with him.
    I think she calls Healy the loss of her life because he made hints and promises to her over 10 years in his music and Taylor thought he was it.
    Then Healy refused to give up his drug addiction, used Taylor as a trophy, cheated on her and then ghosted her once he had taken what he wanted.
    Taylor thought Healy was endgame and she probably threw away her relationship with Joe because she kept writing songs about Healy the entire time she and Joe were dating.

    • @emmavink
      @emmavink 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ashryvern6485 yeah, I tend not to care too much about who songs are about either. But I do care when the reactor guesses incorrectly and the comparatively innocent Joe gets accusations attached to him that he didn't earn.
      I was also quite miffed with Taylor when she said in All Too Well (10 minute version) that Jake Gyllenhaal only kept dating much younger women after Taylor... Because it just wasn't true 🤷
      There has to be some accountability between lyrics and reality if any reactor is going to start making judgements as if they know.

    It's really bizarre to me that everyone keeps on saying that Taylor put on 6 years. As if Joe didn't. What the actual fk?
    From Reputation, Lover. Folklore, Evermore and Midnights, Taylor has hidden context referring to Matty Healy. Which was her entire relationship with Joe.
    Can anyone really blame Joe for being depressed or pulling away or resenting her sometimes or never feeling secure in his relationship either the entire time?
    She was basically emotionally cheating on Joe most of the time they were together.
    And it's tough for me to say, because there are do many things I love about Taylor.
    But she did Joe super dirty and the only relief or redemption she has is that she only wrote maybe 3 or 4 songs about him of the entire 31 tracks and she wishes him love in the future.

      Men can have babies and families forever, 6 years doesn’t mean anything for them.
      35 + is considered a “geriatric pregnancy” and you are considered high risk and often fave fertility issues

      @emmavink 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Suprachiasmatic for sure I agree. Any relationship is a two way street. What annoys me though is that people act like Taylor was just responding to Joe making her feel insecure.
      I call BS and argue that this is what holding on to Matty did to Joe. And of course you emotionally pull away if you don't feel fully emotionally safe with someone.
      Sadly, the worst thing I think Joe did was letting the relationship go on so long when he knew he couldn't fully commit because he didn't feel secure. Obviously I don't mean that he was perfect in every other way. No one is 😢

    • @Suprachiasmatic

      @@emmavink I think Taylor is guilty of letting the relationship go on too long too because she didn’t want to face the media’s and her haters’ jokes about her when it ended. Her relationship’s are always fodder and she didn’t want to give them even more fuel. Plus her fans were SO into what they thought that relationship was that I think she let shame keep her there way too long.

    • @emmavink
      @emmavink 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Suprachiasmatic I totally get that and it's a very natural thing to do. We've all stayed in relationships, friendships, platonic relationships with toxic family members, etc., out of shame and embarrassment.
      I just think it needs to be acknowledged that this came from both sides.
      I've been listening to Lover a bit more recently during my TTPD journey because Lover was the first full TS I really let myself get into (in 37 now and honestly, before 2019 I was still super busy with my MA and working and just stuck to my favourite artists at that point).
      Anywho, my point is that we need to look at a song like Afterglow to get a hint that Taylor really hurt Joe badly less than 2 years into their relationship.
      I suspect this was partly because she was still writing about Matty and partly because she kept accusing Joe of stuff he wasn't doing because of her serious trust issues after John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal.
      Of course Joe played a part in the relationship ending too. But to pretend it was a one way street is so deeply unfair 😢
