You sweet young men. I know you must have back logs of requests; however, you chose to honor mine, not knowing that this is a particularly hellish week for me. Thank you for your thoughtful, loving words of empathy. Yes, you are certainly right about the damn reminders. Amazon keeps sending me the pics I took of my husband and my dog, whom I both lost. Now you can certainly see why Evermore means so very much to me. Once again, this old Swiftie thanks you from her heart and will continue to support you in every way I can. Much love from Donna aka Mama T in East Texas.❤

I love when they go back and forth and the music changes. It feels like the actual chaos of an argument or when a wave of grief hits and then the music calms again and she says “this pain wouldn’t be for evermore” at the end it feels like she’s come to terms with moving on

That outro gets me every time 🥲 Hearing the outro and the lyric “I had a feeling so peculiar, This pain wouldn't be for evermore” just gives me so much comfort and reassurance that everything is going to be okay eventually 🥲 evermore album is such a healing album ❤️‍🩹

Another comment I want to add because why not: My favorite part of the song is from the second verse where there’s the “I rewind the tape but all it does is pause” line because of how well it was delivered alongside the piano in the background. You can feel the pause from Taylor where that key was pressed at the same time. Subtle yet perfectly and masterfully done :)

This song is so important to me, because whenever life spins out of control, and I feel like there's no way out of the tornado, or when sadness and grief feels never-ending, this song illustrates those hard times with the admission that whatever is happening in life MAY never turn around...but then that tempo change comes with Bon Iver offering strength...and the song ends with hope and promise that whatever pain I'm going through WON'T be forevermore. I clung to this song when my father died, and again recently, when physical disability has had me confined to my bed for the last year. You guys brighten my day so much, and what a treat that you reacted to a Taylor song TWICE this week!!! Enjoy your weekend!!!

Evermore is the most emotionally driven song for me. The lyrics and production of the music is so beautiful. It's like being in a depressive episode and seeing the light just to have the next wave of depression hit where you feel like you're drowning till that light finally gets to you. It's so exquisitely written and preformed. I cry EVERY TIME

Taylor's then boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, wrote the piano part for Exile and played piano on evermore (the song), that's why you hear similarities.

The “stripped down” aspect you guys were talking about when it comes to this song is really how the entirety of both the Evermore and Folklore albums are. They’re sister albums that Taylor surprise recorded/released during the COVID lockdown. Folklore came in July and Evermore came out in December. Both albums are amazing

Oh damn, I forgot, the reference to the violence of the dog days was a reference to the George Floyd murder and the subsequent intense BLM protests. I think Justin said something like he felt like the things we (the US) had lost was compassion and empathy and common sense.
I think Taylor also discusses it on an interview with Zane Lowe from BBC... I'll look and see if I can link it here with a time stamp 😊

Ahhh my favorite song on this album. I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t pay attention to the lyrics for a while but once I did oh gosh. How can a song be so heartbreaking yet so hopeful at the same time? The lyrics are just so freakin beautiful and I also feel like she partially wrote it for her fans, her fans were there when she was at her lowest and I feel like we helped her get through those hard times.

I absoulutely love this song it is super underrated same with the whole evermore album itself! The bridge of this song is so beautiful especially Taylor and Bon Iver's voices together! My favourite part of this song is at the end of the bridge when Taylor sings "you were there" and the piano goes from a fast pace back to that slow pace. it is such a good transition and her voice is also so beautiful and calming when she sings this part! I love the Taylor Swift reaction videos. Definitely keep doing them!! Also I recommend reacting to the cardigan/august/willow(medley) live at the 2021 Grammy Awards!! It is a beautiful performance and one of my faves!!

I love this song omg the bridge onwards gives me chills every time!!! It’s like being stuck in a storm and then seeing the light for the first time after the darkness and it makes me feel so many things at once 🤍 (I’m specifically talking about the transition from Bon Iver’s part to Taylor’s with her “You were there” line and the back and forth was overwhelming for obvious reasons but the way we feel a sense of calmness when her soft voice shows up at the end of that… yeah I don’t have words lol it’s just too damn good. Wow. Just wow!)

Going back to your Taylor Swift playlist now and loving ALL of your reactions! There is a 4K full 1989 tour video. It’s the same show in Sydney that you did a couple reactions of but would love so much for you guys to watch that whole 1989 tour because there’s commentary in between and so much much more more about Taylor and all the special guests and things she did in this tour.. and there’s more electric guitar 😂
1989 was the most most awarded pop album of all time in this tour was epic!
A great follow-up to that is a 40 minute video that Taylor Swift put out called Taylor Swift, the road to reputation, and it shows a lot of of her time leading up through other tours and how the Rep reputation tour was built

This song is actually not about heartbreak from love but about the deep depression, darkness, sadness and anxiety she felt during the whole 2016 of it all. "Motion capture, put me in a bad light" aka the illegally recorded EDITED phonecall between her and Kanye ( by Kim), leading her to be cancelled. And everything that followed. I like to think that her part in the bridge about "in the cracks of light, I dreamed of you, and it was real enough to get me through, I swear you were there" is about us, the fans who have/will always have her back, who were still fighting for her in the trenches, with our hearts breaking for her, and hoping she would come back to us and be okay❤

Quick context: this was written in 2020 in the first 6 months of the pandemic.
Taylor had been going through a serious depression between late 2018 and the time she signed with her new record label in 2020 after the masters for her entire back catalogue were sold out from under her by her former father figure label owner, Scott Borchetta, to mogul manager sleezebag Scooter Braun.
On the Bon Iver/Justin Vernon side (they wrote the second half of the song), he is talking more broadly about the horrific impact the terrible management of COVID-19 had had on the US. He's basically asking how the people of the country could get back their self respect ("to be certain, we'll be tall again") for letting so many die unnecessarily, and all because of really stupid bipartisan politics (apparently he is referring to crossing political lines, "is there a line that we could just go cross" to come together to fight a disease that had no political awareness/agenda) had such a negative impact on common sense emergency regulations that did save millions of lives in other countries across the world.
The song is a really interesting mix between the personal and political.
I really enjoyed your reaction as always, thanks guys 😊

I really believe that Taylor and Joe broke up at the beginning of the lockdown because she was really depressed. It was caused by a mixture of her song masters and her relationship. Joe couldn’t or wouldn’t help with either because he was part of one problem of their relationship and had no control over the sale to Scooter Braun. Wow. Taylor is so beautiful with her description of her feelings and emotions. She knows exactly how to convey them to you, without you only being able to put her in the song. You can insert yourself into them just as easily.
These songs on Evermore and Folklore have VERY different meanings now that we have heard more regarding their breakup and more recently songs from TTPD. These 2 Covid sister albums have more raw songs about depression and extreme loss than most. She was alone and depressed, so she used to go to the studio to have her “therapy sessions”. The studio was closed, so she built one in her home. She needed these songs to heal. Naming the documentary “Long Pond Studio “Sessions” “ was by no accident. She’s very vulnerable with us, we just need to listen and have a bit more context than she gives us at that time. It all eventually comes out, but maybe not at the same time as we may need it (or would’ve liked it so that we can relate). Although she doesn’t want us to relate the songs to her, but to our own lives. Wow. What a beautiful and heartbreaking song. Justin’s input and execution…. Perfection.
This song is the loss of her relationship disguised by Covid. So talented! I love them collaborating so much.
2020 relates to her relationship for her - that’s when it ended. Covid ended many lives for people everywhere. Everything makes so much more sense now! 🙈💔
**No remorse - maybe just a moment to catch your breath because you can’t stay in the state of depression and loss for too long?? Am I close? Idk. That’s what I thought of. Sometimes you just need a “pause” in your life so that your brain and heart can comprehend what is happening and let it sink in for a little bit. It’s almost too much stimulation all at once so we feel lost and overwhelmed. Unable to move forward because we’re still trying to figure out WTH just happened. I felt that. 💔❤️‍🩹

Folklore and Evermore were written, and published during Covid Pandemic, in 2020. The lyric, "Catching my breath, Catching my Death", makes me think about the millions of people that could not breath and those who died during the Pandemic. I have no idea if this song has anything to do with that. It's just my point of view. A very sad depressing time for our everyone.
Justin Vernon, is the lead singer of Bon Iver. Credits show William Bowery on the piano, a pseudonym for Joe Alwyn, Taylor's boyfriend. Joe is also listed as William Bowery on the credits for Exile.

Often, a change makes a song more capitivating. Falsetto singing usually helps a song's popularity. I may grow to like it over time, but to me currently, the simultaneous tempo and voice change wrecks it; makes it too disjointed.
