Hopefully Torben Ellert, the CCD of Rally Adventure (which had some actual Progression via the Three "Teams" and even had "Bosses" again for the first time since FH1!) and is now CCD for Horizon itself will change that with 6, as he has confirmed he wants to take 6 in a "completely different direction" to the "Fortnite with Cars" that the Series turned into with FH4 and 5, and he seems a lot more clued in than Mike Brown (CCD from FH3 Hot Wheels to FH5 Hot Wheels, Replacing Ralph Fulton who was CCD from Horizon 1 to Horizon 3 Blizzard Mountain) ever was on what people actually want! so hopefully more Progression and a little less Freedom. Just remember that his hands will be tied a bit however by Microsoft *Mandating* a PEGI 3/ESRB E Rating for Forza, so don't expect it to turn into NFS all of a Sudden, this however is a good thing IMO, as I actually agree with the Microsoft Policy that has Mandated the 3/E Rating, as it means I have Fewer (although sadly, there are still some Big content Concerns for me in FH5) content Concerns to worry about when compared to a Title with a Higher Rating like, say, Motorfest!

This was my first videogame in my life. I have got it in fall 2016. At that time i was 6 years old and i did not know anything about gaming. But i always liked cars so i typed car game into google and first thing that came up was FH3, so i told my mum that if she could buy it for me. A month later my mum and grandfather surprised me with brand new XBOX ONE S. I remember that night i played for hours. Now, 8 years later i collected every Forza Horizon and i still play FH3. It is the best game in the whole franchise (followed by FH1 and FH2). And it still holds up to todays standards. Anyways great video, and I wish you all the best.

As you mentioned, each one has its own genre, although Epitaph and Vagrant do have some overlap. Future Classic, in particular, was brought in as a bit more of Australiana - the label and most of the artists in-game are from here. There was also some Aussie representation in the Horizon-branded stations. As for the description of a ute, I’d say it’s actually the other way around. Take a sedan body, chop it off behind the front seats, add a tray and that’s a ute - built as an adaptation of the sedan platform, rather than a purpose-built pickup truck. Unfortunately “true” utes are a dying breed here in Australia nowadays, as there are no suitable platforms to use which were designed with this concept in mind; Australia no longer has any local mass-market car manufacturers. Holden was shut down entirely a few years back by its corporate parent GM, and Ford no longer designs platforms for a single (well, two; New Zealand basically acts as an extension of our market) global region, nor assembles any cars here. One of the mechanics in FH3 that wasn’t in any other game - the “hiring Drivatars as teammates” setup - added a lot to the immersion for me. I mean - you’re the festival boss, why wouldn’t you have your own handpicked team of the best drivers getting access to the best events? Unfortunately, FH3 did have the first implementation of time-gated content in Horizon, with the Forzathon challenges. But unlike 4 and 5, they didn’t feel like they were onerous and all-consuming, where you HAD to complete most of the challenges every week. They were generally fun little tasks, which rewarded doing something out of the ordinary with a good level of credits, or a unique car prize. Pity that all that is completely unobtainable now, since there was never a way to get these unique cars without actually doing the events, or stalking the auction house. The expansions were peak content for FH as well; FH has generally had a sequence with expansions. The first expansion usually acts as a test bed for a feature in the next game, while the second is a licensed partnership. FH1 had two “test bed” expansions (Rally, leading towards off-road being a lot more of a thing in FH2, and the 1000 Club), FH2’s Storm Island was the first time we really saw extreme weather, FH3’s Blizzard Mountain led to the winter season in FH4, where Fortune Island teased the riddle-based challenges in FH5, and there’s probably something being teased in Rally as well. The Hot Wheels expansion also felt better executed in FH3; the ability to (mildly) modify the track by swapping stunt pieces felt very Hot Wheels, and the world it was set in didn’t just feel like the bare minimum, nor did it require the suspension of disbelief that FH5 did (seriously, three islands in the sky? Each with a completely different biome? Holding what has to be millions of tons of earth?) Oh, and one more thing on the Yarra Valley area (since that’s the closest part in real life to me); it’s generally considered semi-rural, wine growing country in real life. It definitely doesn’t have any major city vibes; open highways and rolling hills are the order of the day. Though there can be a bit of rainforest-style area around as well. Obviously I don’t need to mention that the map is not in any way realistic in terms of locations relative to one another (well…) Surfers Paradise is remarkably accurate in terms of shape to the real roads. Line up the Gold Coast Highway on your favourite mapping service, lay over that segment of the map, and it’s remarkably close. In fact, though it wasn’t necessarily a route in game, H3 had the first real race track in Horizon, with the Gold Coast street circuit being able to be driven in full (well, the shortened version used today, not the longer one they used to use for IndyCar).
Damn I love a good video essay. Love your humor! Horizon 3 has even one more underrated detail. The circuit tracks are the absolute best in the series. They flow so incredibly well and are fun to drive. Horizon 4 and 5 had some good ones, but even with their variaty of circuits they never felt as fun as the ones in Horizon 3. I remember still being like Top 300 in S2 class rivals on a track with a RWD Veneno. Good memories, thx for reminding me of all the love I had for the game. Definetely need tonrevisit it.

One year later I bought the One X bundle with Forza Horizon 4 and last year the Series S. First thing I did was install FH3. My favorit car is still the Lykan Hypersport from fast and furious.😃

Loved watching this! I agree and I also think that FH3 had more of a story to it than FH4 or FH5, which makes it more entertaining and captivates audience.
This is the greatest game I ever played. The storyline was perfect, Kiera was the most energetic person, Warren was interesting, and multiplayer was incredible. Single player was great, the music was awesome, the car selection was perfected, and the roads actually felt open.
I used to love the hoonicorn in cockpit view as when you pressed the handbreak you'd litrally pull the handbreak with the red button, then with flappy paddle they actually moved, I will admit though I love the handling of FH5 it's really good if you know how to tune, however I would love it if someone just put a decent all around setup for steering wheel right off the bat, from what I've learnt you have to have several different setups for steering to do whatever it is you want to do at that time.

Thanks to emulation I can play Horizon on Xenia since last year. So naturally I looked at the other titles and saw that Horizon 3 is as far as I want to go. Horizon 3 still looks great today in its Aussie setting, is an overall good racing game, the DLC´s are good too. And it only has stuff like wheelspins, crappy progression, cooperate greed and a loss of Horizon- soul creeping in before FH4/5 got annoying and boring with that :)
Not the best game ever but one of the best, and definitely the best Forza game, it's up there for me with World at War, Titanfall 2, Elite Dangerous & the Doom & Wolfenstein series. 😆 Then you have stuff like Vigilante 8, old Doom, Wolfenstein & Elite Dangerous.

I disagree with the hot wheels part though with FH5 I found you could control your cars a but better in track, then it brought in more dope cars jist wish we got to keep the bone shaker monster truck like we were meant to be able to, also it's better than LEGO & Donut Media 😂, wish they went down that road a bit more though with car based youtubers as there's better ones like Might Car Mods, Roadkill & even going down the hoonigan franchise a bit more as some of the guest cars they have doing burnouts, races and crazy events in some crazy vehicles but so does Roadkill & Mighty Car Mods especially the Nissan Stagea AWD Double Unicorn as that's got a Nissan Skyline facelift and it's one of the hottest cars ever 🤤
This video is amazing! I pretty much share the same memories as you with the game. It always brings me back when I got my first console an Xbox One S (after begging my parents for like a year to get it) which came in a bundle with FH3. Before that I was only watching content creators that played the game as when I started it was already out for 4 months. There is just nothing like this game.
This is hypocrisy at it's finest. When FH3 came out, a lot of people complained about a lot of mundane stuff just like everyone does now with FH5. And mark my words, when for example FH 7 will be released, everyone will be picking on it while praising FH 5.
Fh3 deserves the praise though, the hate it got at release was unjust considering it improved on near everything the predecessors did, that can't be said about FH5

I disagree with the hot wheels part though with FH5 I found you could control your cars a but better in track, then it brought in more dope cars jist wish we got to keep the bone shaker monster truck like we were meant to be able to, also it's better than LEGO & Donut Media 😂, wish they went down that road a bit more though with car based youtubers as there's better ones like Might Car Mods, Roadkill & even going down the hoonigan franchise a bit more as some of the guest cars they have doing burnouts, races and crazy events in some crazy vehicles but so does Roadkill & Mighty Car Mods especially the Nissan Stagea AWD Double Unicorn as that's got a Nissan Skyline facelift and it's one of the hottest cars ever 🤤

This video is amazing! I pretty much share the same memories as you with the game. It always brings me back when I got my first console an Xbox One S (after begging my parents for like a year to get it) which came in a bundle with FH3. Before that I was only watching content creators that played the game as when I started it was already out for 4 months. There is just nothing like this game.

This is hypocrisy at it's finest. When FH3 came out, a lot of people complained about a lot of mundane stuff just like everyone does now with FH5.

Fh3 deserves the praise though, the hate it got at release was unjust considering it improved on near everything the predecessors did, that can't be said about FH5
