SIGP229 made in Germany was my first handgun. I learned to shoot pistols using 40S&W in 1996. When I bought a used P228 top end from AIM, installed it on my 229 frame and shot 9mm it was incredibly light and fast. Would love to see you put a 228 top end on your SAS and see how it runs.
Excellent P 229.....Great Showing & How To Shoot and Top Participation...Thank You So Much for Your Great Experience.....(I Was a Retired HPD Texas Top Cop)...
Your my favorite gun channel so I'm definitely subscribed, and I had a tour of the two Sig Production facility's last year in Exeter and i can't believe how dedicated they are to the quality and assurance of every pistol and it shows when you fire a Sig for the first time.
Surely Justin is a very strong willed man, able to withstand all that comes against him, with the exception of temptation. I identify with you for sure. Great sig for sure.
This pistol has gone back to SIG Sauer for evaluation and repair. Though the hammer-follow issue did not appear to be causing any serious concern, it's best to have that looked at by an expert. Keep an eye out for a follow up soon, after the gun comes back. We'll shoot it a bunch more and try to address some of the questions and comments here.
+Justin Opinion I'm really interested in seeing what the problem was. I've been looking at this gun but having the trigger change up on me in the middle of a gunfight or tournament isn't comforting.
+Justin Opinion It is back from SIG. Easy fix and great customer service. I'll be working ASAP on a follow up to discuss the fix, take a deeper look at the gun, and (well if I have to) shoot it more! Oh, and I have an fun twist for the range also.
+Justin Opinion: I'm thinking of picking up one of these, what did Sig do to the gun. Did you get a heavier spring? I would like to know before I buy one.
I picked up a P226 a few months ago, it did the same thing not going fully into battery. After a hundred rounds it went away but I never had the hammer follow issue. Good luck with it, I always am excited when you do a video on a new Sig!
Justin Opinion clearly is a master of buying new firearms and getting them to the safe without the Mrs knowledge. But his real party trick is keeping her from watching his TH-cam Channel and seeing all his new guns. Kind sir, can you make a video on how you get away with all this awesomeness? Thank you for the excellent content.
pll91 I have learned to make sure the handguns are all black. That way when the wife sees me cleaning one she doesn’t know the difference and that I have just bought another one 🔫😆
Another nice video! The 229 is my favorite handgun, but mine is regular length and not SAS. I bought it used, well used, in .40 with no rail. I shoot it better than any gun I have. I also got a .357 Sig barrel for it for kicks and I find the amount of recoil about the same, but a little different. It probably feels that way due to the higher velocity. I hope Sig gets it lined out. I have never seen one do that. I have short stroked the standard trigger before and thought I had a failed to fire. I put the SRT in it and solved that issue. I liked it so much i changed out all my Sig triggers.
Great video, especially the close up work at the end. Yes, please let us know about the hammer issue. I just followed you on Twitter as well in case you post a follow-up there. Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and hope it's nothing serious. Take care!
It's interesting to me that a Sig (already premium-priced) Custom Shop (premium-er priced, ironically displaying the word 'custom') would have a problem with fit and finish. Just sayin'. 😉
I own two P224s in 9 and .40 and absolutely love them. For me its the perfect size for carrying. Now while they have had zero malfunctions while firing, ( well over a 1000 rounds each) every once and while with the .40 if I were to chamber a round while letting the slide go home slowly the round has hung up on the ramp 1 out of 10 times. If I use the slide release or rack it with authority it chambers every time. I contribute this to an under sprung recoil spring. Compared to my other Sigs the spring is pretty weak. I really wish Sig or an aftermarket company would make a heavier spring, even my P290RS has a much heavier dual spring. You didn't show it field stripped so I assume its all 224 internals. I'm interested in knowing what you problem is caused by, but I feel if you get the typical Sig rep they will say its part of the break in and you need to put at least 500 rounds through it. Keep us posted.
+SIGBLACKWATER Thanks very much. I hope you subscribe to the channel, so you can get notifications of new content - because there is something else from New Hampshire coming pretty soon...
Thanks for your Review! You supported my decision to order one from CDNN! $699 wasn't a bad price followed by a call to "Bill" at Sig Sauer to order my drop in .40 cal barrel (order the P224 3.5" bbl in .40 if you're interested in the versatility. Just like the 2022 model. Thanks again.
Very interesting thing going on with the hammer! Keep us posted for sure, great vid! I am the same way with my ammo box and numbers...OCD at its finest.
I own a sig P229 enhanced elite, srt g10 grips in 40 smith with a 357 drop in barrel very nice gun.

That is strange that you would have the slide/double action trigger issue happening on that gun since it is a custom shop gun vs one of their regular production guns. You would think it had been gone over like a fine tooth comb, comparatively. Maybe it was an early production run
Great channel Been a fan for yrs, love these guns I still regret selling a two tone 40cal i had few yrs ago, but just ordered the 229 elite carry in 9mm so can't wait till it comes, was torn between the 320x went with the 229 as I don't have to have a red dot on my pistol.. it's more an accessory to me.. but I would like one, I might sell my p07 to put towards one
Nice gun. By the way, the purpose of a shorter barrel on a carry is largely due to OWB carry. The less barrel you have, the less the muzzle dips below the belt line.
well, i have a p229 already and a p228, too. still, i like this gun. none of mine are SAS and i like the SAS. agreed, why shorten the barrel and leave the handle full length for carry. to me for me, you leave the handle long you might as well leave the rest of it full size. i on-body carry always, but at the very same time i always purse carry either a 228 or my 229 and an extra mag. heavy guns for civilian CHL and i'm small. for me because of my size the guns are hard to carry, but i do keep one in my purse at all times and i always body carry a smaller pistol like a LC9s Pro or a LCP-II. what's in my purse though is always a sig. these sigs are my personal preferred favorite hand gun (period). nice nice SAS 229!!! i wish i had it too!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice shooting. I have read one source that you can get the Sig X Change Kit (9mm slide/barrel) for this model. Interesting. I wonder if Sig will come out with a 9mm version given their new model P225-A1?? I do like this P229C.
The size of the Slide and the Recoil Spring are not jiving. (not really scientific term) That's the problem with platforms that are cut down from a standard size. I find, this really effects the function not in a profound way at all to say the least! I had many problems with my Sig Sauer P224, DAK, .40cal. The 3.5in. Barrel and the Slide and Recoil Spring just did not work well together at all! I find it surprising that you choose Remington UMC over Speer Lawman Ammo. I really like Lawman. Different strokes, I guess. Very interesting Video!
+Ed Bo It's because I'm so manly. Everyone else usually winds up on their backs. :) But seriously - this little gun handles the recoil like a champ. Very pleasant to shoot.
Thanks for the video! Bummer on the issues. My full size P320 has this battery issue. I have to call Sig about this. Nice thing is you can buy a P224 9 mm slide & barrel and you have a 9 mm limited edition. I have the 229 carry in .40 S&W, and I swap slides between it and my P224. I have learned you cannot buy a standard P229 E2 grip for this gun- it wont fit as the carry frame doesn't have the same cutouts as the standard P229. 8^(
+jconradh Dropping just the P224 .40 barrel in is all I should need to convert calibers. That's a nice 2fer. If your P320 isn't having any problems while shooting it, I wouldn't worry too much about it - but see what they say. Mine cleared up during this 1st Hundred, but I doubt I'd have called them for just that anyway, unless it caused a feeding issue. Good tip on the grips - though I love the G10s anyway.
Justin Opinion You can't just drop in a 9 mm barrel in the 229 carry. My P224 is 9 MM so the slide can interchange with my 229 carry in .40. I did order a .357 barrel, so I have all 3 calibers across the 224 and 229 carry. I called Sig support and they confirmed I had the right idea. I have only shot some 75 rounds through my P320, so maybe a few more hundred may solve my battery issue.
jconradh Yeah, I'd give it more rounds before deciding if it's a problem. In my case, a drop-in .40 barrel into a .357 isn't a problem - but I agree you can't do it that simply with 9mm.
Kind of apples and oranges between calibers, but how do you rate this with the HK P30SK? I have both a P226 and HK P30 so the magazine interchangeability is appealing.
Live in WA and found one new in the box in Indiana on GunBroker. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, not sure what it retails for but I picked it up for $600. Hope it does not have the same issue. It's 40 cal. I should be able to drop a357 sig barrel in it from a 224?
+Tony Pellegrino Good score! I doubt you'll have any problem with it. I'll have a Part 2 before long and talk about the issue and solution. The folks at SIG seldom ship a defective product but when they do they take care of it. Yeah, that barrel should be a drop in. I'm hoping to do the same thing in the opposite direction. ;-)
+Armed and Feminine I'll have to review and see what I quoted. I tend to quote him often. But anyone that recognizes a Peart quote - even more awesomer!
+freedoomed No, they're not. Actually, the grip most similar to the Legion is on the P225-A1 (see my video of that). It even has a medallion in the grip, but says "SIG" instead of the Lambda symbol. As Jewels Winfield indicated - all of us are at various times victims of marketing strategies. Though quite often we are willing and happy victims. I hate to make it worse for you, but you can also get the X-Ray sights as an accessory and add them to any SIG. Soon I think they will be an option on many models. I'm working on a Legion project, so I'll say more about it in the appropriate place.
+glenview1022 Close... vewy vewy close! You might even get a partial cigar. ;-) Not trying to be coy, but I'll talk about the issue and repair in the follow up soon.
Stop saying 357 sig is a more accurate round. It’s as accurate as any other round. It’s going faster so it’s flatter trajectory at longer distances. That’s not “more accurate”.
+Richard Liberatore Yes, I have. Please explain more to us dummies. You seem so very wise and experienced. Please point out which exact shot was "reckless".
Ski Fall the likelihood of a "disaster" situation is close to nil. I understand the fantasy for it to happen, but in any such scenario it would be quick probably under 24hrs and then the military would be taking over. A refugee outbreak is about as likely as a zombie apocalypse and any kind of mass civil unrest again would be under control in about 24hrs. All of that shtf stuff is just marketing targeted at the paranoid.
You must be really young because shit did hit the fan only decades ago. WWII where Japanese killed 3 to 15 million. Oh yeah, just the latest genocides around the world...Darfur, Khmer Rouge Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnians, etc... America? How about LA riots & white flight? Katrina where few to no cops were found days after. So yeah, 357sig sucks for sure
Sorry chump!!! But my Sig P229 eats a steady diet of 9mm, 40s&w and the $uperb 357sig, ✌😎✌ but it won't get into play until the ol 1858 Remington uses up all it's powder. #LongLiveKnightsTemplar
That's only a problem if you only had a split second to get off another round or be shot. Taking more than a split second means you'll probably come in second place. I know first hand that you never want to be second in a gun fight. This video changed my mind on SIG's being too high priced to them being way over priced.
Be a man and load the mags manually.. and glad u can catch a mag in slow mo. But have to give it to ya not doing a review in full kit like a lot of other civilian posers

Check out the Part 2 video, after I got it back. Out of spec sear spring, basically. Easy fix.

I have a 229 DA/SA in 40 cal. Police trade in. I also have a 226 with the anchor on the slide. The 226 mags will work in Taurus G2C.
Love my 9mm M11-A1 , 3.9" looks a lot like yours P229/228... 15 round mags..... so far no problems , only about 100 rounds so far .
Great video, especially the close up work at the end. Yes, please let us know about the hammer issue. I just followed you on Twitter as well in case you post a follow-up there. Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and hope it's nothing serious. Take care!

Out of proportion looking gun. Really bugs me when the grip looks too long for the barrel length. The reverse doesn't bother me nearly as much.
Nobody likes a short barrel and big hand combo lol.
I own two P224s in 9 and .40 and absolutely love them. For me its the perfect size for carrying. +SIGBLACKWATER Thanks very much. I hope you subscribe to the channel, so you can get notifications of new content - because there is something else from New Hampshire coming pretty soon...
It's a great option for appendix carry. One of the best. If it had a beavertail, I'd buy it.
+DogTownP Fine choice. It's a super sweet shooter - and yes, the drop-in .40 is a smart option and one I intend to feature in the follow up video.
Sig p series is simply perfection
No perfection there... with the issue he was having
SIG P series is simply perfection.
Very interesting thing going on with the hammer! Keep us posted for sure, great vid! I am the same way with my ammo box and numbers...OCD at its finest.
Just picked my up yesterday, can't wait for Saturday!
I remember a while back a batch of hk45 compact pistols had this same issue. Sa back to da while firing.
Nice video, but what was the fix that Sig did to solve the hammer follow?
Justin, if you get a chance revisit this pistol in another future video. I wish Sig would bring it back. They didn’t make it for long.
Tmj not fmj , those will plow through barriers and are fairly hot meant to duplicate gold dot velocity.
P229 .357 SIG = Super cool!

Nice review, nice gun. I love my P226R. Would really like to have the Stainless Elite in 9mm. One of these days...
I don't know what is going on with the hammer, but it sure is a pretty pistol. I hope Sig can make it right, I'm willing to bet they will.
+fumasterchu12 I have no doubt they'll square it away.
I'm about to get one of those in 40S&W, it is just too pretty!
It looks like my P229 that I bought in 1997. Except mine came with 10 round magazines
Sigs seem to be a big gamble these days. It's not like it's a new design. QC seems like a big issue. Keep us posted.
Nice shooting. I have read one source that you can get the Sig X Change Kit (9mm slide/barrel) for this model. Interesting. I wonder if Sig will come out with a 9mm version given their new model P225-A1?? I do like this P229C.
Nice review! 357 sig is my favorite handgun round.
One of my p229's has done the hammer follow too.
Another nice review. I'd be curious to see a side by side size comparison between this and Sig's new P225-A1.
+David Giles Oh, I could be your huckleberry on that one...
Great review and excellent shooting. 👍

Nice pistol, keep us informed on that problem. Great review
Great review! Have you fired the glock 32 ands if so which one would you carry ccw/iwb? Thank you
I'm very surprised at how little recoil I see going on with the 357 Sig. Nice !
+Ed Bo It's because I'm so manly. Everyone else usually winds up on their backs. :) But seriously - this little gun handles the recoil like a champ. Very pleasant to shoot.
Good video as always. I enjoy watching it keep em coming, Sir.
+Jay Rod I enjoy makin' em for you. Thanks very much for watching!
Yeah, I'd give it more rounds before deciding if it's a problem. In my case, a drop-in .40 barrel into a .357 isn't a problem - but I agree you can't do it that simply with 9mm.
I just picked up one of these used from the lgs. Hoping its a good one.
Kind of apples and oranges between calibers, but how do you rate this with the HK P30SK? I have both a P226 and HK P30 so the magazine interchangeability is appealing.
love the 357sig round. I carry the Glock 32 gen4. excellent pistol.
+n300zx931 I really wish the round was more popular
Are the grips on this gun similar to the P229 e2 grips on the other P series handguns?
That 229C SAS looks very much like the M11-A1. How similiar or different is it?
The barrel is 3.5 instead of the almost 4" barrel of the M11 A1. the 229 ca only comes in 40sw and 357 sig.
+justin opinion are those mauji jim** sun glasses? if so niiiice
Excelent!!!👍
Live in WA and found one new in the box in Indiana on GunBroker. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, not sure what it retails for but I picked it up for $600. Hope it does not have the same issue. It's 40 cal. I should be able to drop a357 sig barrel in it from a 224?
+Tony Pellegrino Good score! I doubt you'll have any problem with it. I'll have a Part 2 before long and talk about the issue and solution. The folks at SIG seldom ship a defective product but when they do they take care of it. Yeah, that barrel should be a drop in. I'm hoping to do the same thing in the opposite direction. ;-)
JO I know this 229c is limited edition. but what did u get the only 1? Sig has none, not made anymore. help me I want one for my wife. no really. 4 me
They are rare. But I'm sure not impossible to find.... just keep looking.
Justin Opinion thanks brother. keep making great vidios
I dont think I've ever been this early
+0Cereal0 See what a sensible dinner and a good night's sleep can do for you! ;-)
+Justin Opinion I saw Sig that's what tuned me into this :)
nice sig too. someone stole my sunglasses :/
Quoting Neil Peart in a video. Well played!
+Armed and Feminine I'll have to review and see what I quoted. I tend to quote him often. But anyone that recognizes a Peart quote - even more awesomer!
My other half is a bit of a rush freak. Me, not so much.
Armed and Feminine
Yay him, boo you. But that's the demographic. Wait till he sees my 2112 album sleeve with all three signatures on it...
He'll be jealous!
P229 ALL DAY BABY CHEERS
I have a 229 Legion and love it but sorry, for me it is simply WAY TOO BULKY to Cary on my person. I cary a Kimber sub compact, which is perfect..
Eeek! The hammer follow is quite disturbing JO. Hope Sig takes care of that lickity split. Let us know how the customer service experience is....
+swoodward1013 You bet I will.
So the g10 grips aren't exclusive to the legion. thanks sig for making me feel special by buying the legion and then throwing g10 grips on everything.
You're a victim of marketing.
+Jewels Winfield Many times over, yes.
+freedoomed The Extreme series have G10 grips, been out a while.
+freedoomed No, they're not. Actually, the grip most similar to the Legion is on the P225-A1 (see my video of that). It even has a medallion in the grip, but says "SIG" instead of the Lambda symbol. I hate to make it worse for you, but you can also get the X-Ray sights as an accessory and add them to any SIG. Soon I think they will be an option on many models. I'm working on a Legion project, so I'll say more about it in the appropriate place.
+Michael StJohn Those are hogue g-10 if i'm not mistaken. these are a new pattern that sig is making now.
I like sig but I'm just not going to pay over a thousand dollars for a handgun when I can get a handgun for under $300 and be just good
My p229 failed to feed 9mm so it got sold.
P229 classic carry vs. CZ 75 PCR?
No one can pick Sig or CZ.
i wish all sigs came de-horned. i don't see why they're not?
its probably a bad sear slipping off edge under recoil.
+glenview1022 Close... vewy vewy close! You might even get a partial cigar. ;-) Not trying to be coy, but I'll talk about the issue and repair in the follow up soon.

+Richard Liberatore Yes, I have. Please explain more to us dummies. You seem so very wise and experienced. Please point out which exact shot was "reckless".
maybe your finger touched decocker and it caused the issue .
made some in 9mm
357sig rounds? no one is going to have that round in a disaster where all supplies are going going gone.
Maybe not you but I'll have them😃👊
Who cares! There is no 9mm ammo during crazy gun scares either! Everything 9mm or 22 LR disappeared except for .40s&w and .357 sig
Ski Fall
the likelihood of a "disaster" situation is close to nil.
Jesus Loves You
Well your a good shot for 357. Way to much money to shoot for fun and to big for every day CCW.
Ditch the music. It sucks !
Be a man and load the mags manually.. and glad u can catch a mag in slow mo. But have to give it to ya not doing a review in full kit like a lot of other civilian posers
