  • This week, we review one of Hammer's new and probably prettiest guns, the 9mm SIG P229 Elite Talo. So much fun at the range. After shooting the P229 Scorpion a few months back, he started his search for one that he couldn't live without, LOL!
    Check out our other P229 videos:

    I have a 229 Stainless Elite in .40.Its heavy like a brick. The weight really soaks up the recoil. IMO its one of the best looking guns ever made. It would be my choice of carry if I were a Vice cop in Miami with a shoulder holster driving a hot sports car.

    Nice review. I have a P229 ASE in .40 S&W and if I could only have one, this would be it. Absolute pleasure to shoot - smooth as butter and the quality is excellent. I found the stock wood grips to be a bit thick however (I usually wear a M/L glove), so I swapped them out for some Hogue G-10 checkered grips and it's perfect now. I'll have this Sig till one or the other of us wears out...

    No, damn Sig just about tripped me up. I didn't realize they had started making the aluminum framed ones while i was looking for a stainless steel Elite. I came one button push away from ordering this online due to what I thought was an amazing price but decided to go into my local store. I Realized the switch-a-roo Sig had made and bought one of the last P229 stainless steel Elites available in my area.

    Great review- Thx. This is next on my list. I also own the p320Rx and one of the major differences between the 320 and 229 is the trigger. In my opinion, the SRT trigger (Legion, and Elite) is one of the best things Sig has going, but the 320 is not a less expensive p229. The price at my local shop is now $899 (new), not a bad price, it got my attention. I have also seen used models for about $100 less. Thx again...

      +Phila Pop Thank you. As functional as a P320 is, it won't come close to the beauty of the P229.

    Very nice gun, looking to buy one myself. What is the difference between the normal P229 Elite ASE and the Talo edition?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To the best of my knowledge the ASE itself is a Talo Exclusive (Sig site: . Please note: this is a TALO exclusive. ) . Factory SRT Trigger, SigLight sigts and custom grips.

  • @wooddawg4868
    @wooddawg4868 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The sig classic series is on the way out due to cost. The sig classic has always been a smooth reliable shooter at a time when glock/striker fired guns were not around in 9mm, 40sw, and 45acp. I think at this point the classic line of sigs are only carries by a few, owned by a few and used by a few which can' justify their high cost any longer.

  • @Denvco1
    @Denvco1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Stupid question, sorry to ask. What makes it a Talo edition? I have a stainless 229 elite and I would like to know what makes it talo edition vs normal.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the grips are different, the TALO version has custom walnut grips.
      Both your gun and this one have the factory SRT trigger kit.
      The Talo has Siglite Night Sights, I am not sure if the standard 229 Elite does.
      Overall, most of tthes "distribute exclusive guns are just special assortments of factory parts and usually some sort of "exclusive" grips.

    @hammerstiker thanks for the video. Does the P229 Elite Talo have the PVD finish? I just got a new P226 Elite Talo and the finish on the Alloy frame has different shades perhaps something to do with the PVD finish. The frame seems to get a lot of smudge marks. I haven't even fired the pistol but have tried the trigger and reset functions and the finish in the back of the trigger housing has a black mark from pulling the trigger where the back of the trigger hits the trigger housing. Again does the P229 Talo also have the PVD Alloy frame; if so have you noticed any issues with the frame's finish? Thank you.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a PVD coating and it has held up well on our particular gun. There are a few places, for example in the valleys of the picatinny rail, that are not as well covered. However, nothing that you would see on anything other than a close inspection.

    • @rramramirez9323
      @rramramirez9323 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hammer Striker Thanks for the quick reply. The poor PVD finish on my 226's pic rails is on the rail bars/tips not in the groves and on the front sides of the frame in addition to the trigger gaurd. I did a little research and found several blogs on the PVD finish apparently there's a lot of other Sig owners with similar issues. I must say though that I love the way it feels and the trigger pull and reset is everything Sig says it is. I am from the old school and like the D.A./S.A. This Sig reminds me of my hammer strike S&W 5904 with a black anodized alloy frame. It has a nice clean crisp trigger pull, break and reset. It is very accurate and the alloy finish still looks great. It's been a range and home defense gun and still in near mint condition. Jerry Miculek said he doesn't know why they stopped production of the series as it is the most accurate standard production pistol he's fired. Again the Sig's similarities to the my 5904 is what attracted me to the P226 Elite. I'll be looking for a new Sig in 40SW, my preferred caliber. Thank you again and I hope Sig addresses the PVD finish issues.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately that is unlikely as these were for a "Distributor Exclusive" version of this gun. The grips themselves can likely be found but they would not fit the P226 as the grips are different sizes. You can likely find similar looking ones, surprisingly I have have good luck on Ebay and Amazon finding interesting grips for some of our guns.

    • @P_double_H

      Yeah I know these are for the P229, but the P226 also has an ASE Talo version and those will fit the P226R.

    I have larger hands and still can't stand thick gun grips. The most comfortable gun I've ever held is the Walther CCP, which I consider about the perfect size for a gun for comfort. Anything bigger or smaller is a compromise, although it's often worth the compromise for more rounds. As much as I like the looks of that gun, 1.5" is a deal breaker for me.

    Is there some uTube thing where you have to show the gun is empty all the time?
    It's a bit irritating.
    It's not just you. Almost everyone does it to excess.
    Perhaps it's trying to show the anti gun lobby how terribly safe we all are.
    Well IMO that is a total waste of time. They will never change their minds and the rest of us don't need to pointless and repetitive demo.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We (and other channels like ours) do that for a purpose, it is because there are different reasons people come to TH-cam. Some come purely for entertainment (which is great), but many are new to firearms and come to TH-cam to learn. As safe handling procedures are the most important factor of dealing with firearms, reinforcing it is important. An inexperienced shooter viewing our videos (or others with similar mindset) will be reminded of the need to be very aware of the state of the weapon in addition to following the other safety procedures. Every once in a while you hear of somebody being shot by an "unloaded gun" (obviously it wasn't) or during the cleaning procedure. Hopefully reinforcing the need to clear a weapon that is going to be handled for a reason other than actually firing it may educate somebody and prevent a tragedy.
