@@sbenton827 it's a tough call. 3 extra rounds is the main reason I switched. I did love my 40. When I bought it, I did it for the bigger round but 9mm ammo has come a long way in the last 20 years
300 bucks difference between that and the standard model? My best advice to the average noob with at best rudimentary shooting skills that buy these is to buy the standard model and spend the difference on actual training on learning to shoot a pistol, and learning to shoot it well
@M - I would fall into the “average noob” category, but I’m going the extra money for the Legion. There are times when paying the extra money for features you may not use are worth it. I’d rather wait a little longer and get what I want. I respect your opinion and don’t necessarily disagree with it. I’ve had my eye on a Legion P226 for months now. Once I sell my house, relocate back to Kentucky, and the dust clears, a Legion will be in my gun safe.
The undercut and trigger are worth the $300 extra alone considering what it would cost to send a stock gun or Elite model in to Sig or a custom shop to get the work done once you factor in a frame refinish, shipping costs, and all of that.
Excellent vid as always! I considered this blaster, but am very happy with my PX4! I have 500 rounds through it and have been working on my press out technique from some Langdon videos I've seen. I was able to shoot the best group of my life at 35 yards with the PX4 last week. As a side note, one of my buddies just text me today and he has been a long time M&P9c carrier who told me he is going to make the switch to the PX4 storm now. Thank for your continued solid advice!
Great review. I've had my legion nearly a year. I consider it one of my top pistols. I agree about Sigs marketing. Build quality at a fair price and the gun will sell itself.
I’ve owned a pair of these as my EDC for 5 years now and they shoot wonderfully, run like tops, and make me smile everyday. Loaded with Federal HST 124 gr +P
You're the most articulate gun reviewer on TH-cam. You're able to word things in a way that doesn't get snowflake gun owners panties in a bunch which is no small feat.
Go to the Elite models. They give you the same mechanicals, extended Beaver Tail, SRT, night sights, trigger guard undercut. You don't need the silly poseur Legion coin and different grips. Love my P227 Elite and P226 Elite, saved $600+ combined. The Beretta open slide/exposed barrel is a dubious design, confirmed by decades of critics. The firing group parts of all Sig Sauer P2XX pistols is Glock simple - but more substantial materials, tighter tolerances, and don't forget Sig's full length slide rails for precision operation. Doesn't rattle when shot like every polymer and lesser metal designs.
I have the 226 tacops pistol for personal protection and I have used it as such, the 229 Legion I use for work and have used it in conflict I purchased the European version for myself and team, all have stood up to great usage and my team are happy all the “extra” bits have made this our go to weapon this finish and build are excellent and when used has never let us down.
The features that you get make it the price reasonable....that is if you already think Sig prices are reasonable from the start. Either way I got the 226 and I love how it shoots, and I love the cool factor, so the haters can suck it, and get a job.
Tony k yeah I hate most stricker fire triggers. I’ve got Glocks Springfield, FN, not one of them have better triggers than my DA/SAs or obviously 1911s.... the FN40 is probably my best stricker fire trigger but still nowhere near my CZ, Sig or especially my Berettas! 👍🏻
The finish with time will get the coolest looking “Battle worn” look if you carry it all the time, in other words it will just get more awesome with time and use
I got to shoot one of these a few weeks ago and I will say it is well worth the money. 5 shots at 15 yards and they were all touching if not almost the same hole. I need one.
Good review. But do you really think the 92's slide mounted safety is in a better place? I cant imagine many people prefer the 92 safety/decocker to the Sig design.
I just got the P220 legion, it’s remarkably easy to carry and it feels amazing. It was my dream pistol and it’s my favorite pistol that I’ve shot and owned. I work with firearms, so this says a lot.
I don't know why I'm watching this video. It's almost impossible to buy a gun where I live, for numerous reasons. But the video is great. Really informative and to the point. I have a fascination for the design of the p229. It's such a beautiful gun.
I don't know why but every SIG I've shot is crazy accurate. This is something I can count on but....and it's a big but, I can't afford the P226-P229 pistols. I did buy two 938's when PSA was selling them at great prices and I bought the P250 (which I love) and the P2022 which I like a little less than the rest but even the 938's shoot like a dream and that's great for such a small carry pistol.
Decocking is an administrative activity. There is no need to maintain a full grip for administrative actions. It goes back to Clint Smith's comment where you don't want to take the gun apart in the middle of the immediate fight (paraphrasing regarding reloading and when to do it). If bullets are still flying, decocking the gun is not important.
@0:57 Wrong. Berretta is almost the equal of Sig Sauer. The American miltary chose Berretta over Sig because the 92's were like $200 cheaper than the p226's. The Navy Seals chose the Sig p226 over the 92 because they wanted what was best, not sacrificing reliability for price.
One of the nicest shooting out of the box pistols ive ever shot. At 18 yards first time shooting i hit every plate on the tree without any misses. Beautiful gun and love shooting it.
First time veveiwer and now a subscriber. Great review. I got my P229 Legion from my wife as a 10 year anniversary present and I absolutely love it, by far the best shooting gun right out of the box I currently own the trigger reset or lack there of is phenomenal. My 1 con is one thing you mentioned and that is the finish isn't as durable as it should be for 1200 bucks but seeing as I'll never part with this pistol its a small negative for all the positives. I also have a P226 That I had some custom work done to and honestly from a shooting stand point its really close and the work I had done on my 226 cost closer to 500 so I feel the extra cost for the legion is just fine. Looking forward to the release of the 238 or 938 legion.
Thank you for keeping your videos short and sweet. That's important because everybody doesn't have 20-30 minutes to sit around and watch a TH-cam video.
Very well done. I agree with most of your conclusions too. Two of the things I don't like about the Legion are the smaller controls and the shape of the new trigger. For that reason, I have stayed with a standard 229-1 with an SRT kit. I do wish I could get the undercut trigger guard, though.
Gray guns trigger system, cerakote or PVD (depending on manufacture date), higher undercut, polished action, solid steel guide rod to reduce muzzle flip, G10 grips, 3 magazines, and when you register, they send you a second ballistic softshell case. Is that worth $300? Hell yes it is, its worth more than that. I see reviews on legions that leave out the majority of this stuff.
The standard 229 has been my duty gun since 2002. First in .40 and now in 9mm, both have been 100% reliable. I wish the standard version had the better checkered front strap. I applied skateboard tape, and It makes a big difference.
Lovely review. I'm sure you get this request all the time, but I would love to see you review some Cz75 varients. Personally, my 9mm of choice. I'm wanting a p220 legion already. Can't wait for that. I love the p220.
I like how the de-cocker is placed on my cz SP/P-01 tactical...you only need to move your thumb to engage the de-cocker..the tactical model comes with an ambi-decocker and mepro night sights with MSRP around $680 USD. The newer FDE/suppressor models is around 680-800 but the polymer P07/09 less than $700 USD.
I'd love you to test the pistol is just bought. The Arsenal Strike One in 9mm. Because I know you wouldn't hold anything back. Even if you could shoot it for 1 day or 1 week, I'd still would respect your opinion. If you have any time in November, and I could arrange a legitimate way to get it to you, I'm game. Just thinking. All your videos surpass everyone else. Professional and to the point. No BS. Thanks for being you. ✌
The best handgun we own is a P229 Enhanced Elite. Our carries are a P938 9mm for me and a P238 Spartan 380 for her. The Spartan is the best running handgun we own. The P938 and P238 are now offered in the Legion platform, although Spartan versions still cost more than Legions.
Great review. Another DA gun I'd like to see a review of is the Walther P99 AS. It seems like a really overlooked gun, and I've been interested in them for a long time.
Lucky Gunner Ammo could you do a review on a Beretta Px4 Storm on either size of a compact or a Full-Size model of a 9mm or either caliber since I also carry a Full-Size Beretta on me everyday most of the time but sometimes I carry a 1911 but MOST of the time it's my Px4 Storm I carry on me most of the time
Nice to see another Beretta fan. The Beretta M9 is one of the great all-time pistols ever. A lot of ignorant hatred for it. I'd take a Beretta over a Glock (and I own 3 glocks so, i'm not a hater)
Any chance you'll be looking at the Sig SP2022? It's roughly the same size as the 229 and would be Sig's DA/SA polymer competitor to the Beretta Storm you reviewed.
Hello. Need your advice if you have a moment. I have a Sig P226 Legion SAO and a Springfield 1911-A1 Range Officer Elite both in 9mm. One has to go. Which would you keep? Thank you!
Great video on a great gun. I am a Sig fan and carried a M11-A1 for a while but put it back in the safe after shooting more with my CZ PCR. It is another great DA/SA all metal handgun with the decocker in a better position for me and fits my smaller hand better. After the Beretta and Sig love you need to acquaint yourself with a good CZ.
Nice review. Many years ago, I bought some high-priced carbon-fiber golf clubs, but my game still sucked. :-) Good point about bad shooters not improving with an expensive gun.
Chris you nail it again brother!! Thanx for this review i was gunna buy it but i wasnt sure about all the extra features and add ins and so on instead i bought the CZ shadow 2.. (still waiting for her to arrive in canada though.) i wasn't sure if all the extra stuff would like it and i hold a sig 229 and the shadow2 and heads down the CZ felt way better in my hands though but still abt 3 weeks ago i held one legion and men that under cut and the serrations thin grips etc... feels amazing in the hand. thank you for the video yall make a difference in youtube yall make it superb, informative and bery enjoyable to watch and above all else you ansewr comments👍😂✌ have a nice weekend brother
I hope to buy a P229 Legion , but for now I don't feel undergunned with my standard P229 . I think I really want it so that I can leave both my sons P229s.
Very good video. I'm both a SIG and Glock guy; I own two of both. I have a SIG P-229 chambered in .357 SIG, and it is a superb weapon. However, as much as I love SIGs, I believe the Legion series will go down in history as one of the most infamous marketing scams ever. The people who fall for it should have their heads examined - or maybe not; maybe I should come up with some ideas to get rich off them as well - heh heh.
I know this is four years ago, but in case someone else reads this. Say you want night sights, plus paying a gunsmith to put them on. Already that alone is a huge part of the extra cost that you would be paying for anyway. The other extras are nice though granted not things that most people would automatically add. And now they are adding red dots as an out of the box legion feature, more to complain about.
+Lucky Gunner Ammo 2 points: First, how do you assess a P229 as a type for concealed carry? I also carry appendix and assume that it's right on the edge of slightly too tall. Second, if someone was going to add 25 lpi front/backstrap checkering, a Grayguns trigger, X-ray sights, and G10 grips, could it be done for $200-300? I doubt it. The only negatives I see are the reduced controls, if you can't readily conceal the P229 and the lack of durability of the pvd finish.
It's heavy and it's large. If you're concerned that it might be too heavy to carry, it probably is. As far as the length of the grip, though, I don't think it's significantly longer than a Glock 19. As for the question of value, I think I addressed that in the video: "It might cost a lot more than $300 to add all of these extra features to a standard Sig, but if you don’t really need or want those features, the Legion guns could seem like a ripoff."
Hello Chris, one more time you "master" the video, serious. Is first class information with a very good opinion (after actually using the pistol). You are not pushing to buy anything but opening the door and eyes to a possible buyer... Honestly congrats and thank you again for your time and expertise. Just one quick question, can you advance the video for the CZ's SP01 Tactical, before the 30th of February 2017? as you advice previously...
There's nothing wrong with it, I just think that compact/mid-size firearms that can be carried are a lot more relevant to most people's self-defense needs.
Got it, the P01 is very similar to the SP01 except for size and weight, material made and capacity... Will be very intrrsting to see your review. Thanks again and stay safe.
Even later to the party but yeah, the CZ, the PX4 compact carry as well as smaller versions of Beretta’s 92 series……and maybe the HK P30SK…..along with the P229, as good as DA/SA carry gets. Guess that’s why I have them all except for the CZ
Just wish they sold that G10 grip separate, feels amazing. Fondled this model a couple times as my 226 needs a little brother. Was thinking a 225 or M11 A1. Just a matter of how many clams I want to burn. Great segment, thanks.
How good is this gun with defensive rounds? I bought a glock 19 this year and it runs target ammo fine but defensive rounds consistently fail to feed. I'm very disappointed since I really expected a good reliable gun. Gonna probably sell it and get this maybe.
If your Glock 19 is not firing jacketed hollow point ammo reliably, it either needs to be sent back to the factory for repair, or there is some user error at play. I would contact Glock and let them know what's happening. Their customer service is very good.
Lucky Gunner Ammo thank you. I sent them a message through the contact us section on their website. The website did state that they were experiencing a high level of messages and that it would be a while for a reply. I've really tried to see if the problem is a user error but in my opinion that doesn't seem to be the case. I have zero issues with FMJ but various defense rounds jam on the feeding ramp. Like 1 out of every 7 or 8 rounds! Thank you though! Hopefully they can fix this soon!
+Aaron Schutz No reason to get an oddball Slovenian import if you can afford a Legion. Go for the real deal. You don't even know if Arex is going to have a presence in the US tomorrow. Who's going to fix that gun if it breaks? Where will you get replacement parts, sights, and other accessories? Sig is not perfect, but they aren't going anywhere anytime soon and the P229 is a proven design with a crapload of aftermarket support. That said, if you already have a VP9, you probably don't need another mid-size 9mm.
Lucky Gunner Ammo good points, I want another mid size because that is what I am used to carrying. As for the arex, dang military arms channel swayed me a little. Can you give me a little more feedback in regard to the pvd issues? I have read that a few batchs from sig didn't take well. Others report its fine. But I conceal carry daily (vp9 for 2yrs) and it has some finish issues now. I don't want to buy the p229 and a month later it's all crappy lookin
+Aaron Schutz The PVD finish didn't hold up well with a Kydex holster. Grey coating rubbed right off the spots that slide against the holster. Also have a big scuff on the slide that I can't explain. It's only cosmetic, though... there are more layers to the finish that aren't visible that should prevent it from rusting. I'd be mildly irritated if I bought the gun, but this one is a loaner. Honestly, I haven't been too impressed with any factory finishes lately, except for Glocks and the "melonite" treatment on the M&P. Most of the newer guns in my safe look worse than the M&P9c I carried for 5 years. VP9 is a great gun. If that's working out for you, I'd stick with it or wait until they come out with a compact. Unless you want to try out a DA/SA for a while. As for MAC, if you told him he could only have one pistol and it had to be a Sig or an Arex, there's no way that guy is choosing an Arex. He knows better, despite what his silly dirt tests might suggest.
Another well done video! I'm having trouble finding a IWB holster for my Legion 226. Where did you get the AIWB you used on the video? Any suggestions/recommendations are greatly appreciated.
@US ARMY VET 11B 96-14 thanks for the reply, I was leaning towards the legion anyways, now I gotta decide between the pvd or cerakote finish. I like the looks of the pvd better but heard bad things about it.
I have absolutely no problem operating the decock with my forefinger and the mag release with my middle finger. Yes, it would be nice if Sig started making them ambidextrous but I am just as fast operating the controls on my Sigs as I am on any of my ambidextrous guns.
Like I said I have no problem decocking with my forefinger and the slide catch is actually a catch not a release. I rack it with my right hand in order to properly release it and chamber a round. That is actually the proper method suggested by most manufacturers.
I've had my Sig P226 Legion DA/SA for about 3 or four months now and love it so much that I sold my Beretta M9A3 in order to get another Legion. This time around I'm thinking it will be a P229 Legion. What I haven't quite figured out is if it will be a DA/SA or the SAO when it is finally released. Either way this series of pistols is my favorite! I will never go back to polymer pistols after these!
I'm just wondering why you wouldn't adjust the trigger to your preference. You said there's a longer creep to break than you'd like. Why wouldn't you adjust it for less creep?
Personally I think the Legion series was marketing hype. I have numerous P series that are a dream to shoot and shoot well. One of my best is the P220 Elite. And my M11 is a close second. But my opinion is just that...great video as usual.
i have the p226 legion (my 4th p226) and love it. but i agree about the finish. ive been carrying mine most days for about a month, and it has about 800 rounds down it and the finish is showing pretty good signs of wear. i wonder how it will hold up but do not have high hopes

The undercut and trigger are worth the $300 extra alone considering what it would cost to send a stock gun or Elite model in to Sig or a custom shop to get the work done once you factor in a frame refinish, shipping costs, and all of that.

Best review on the series I have seen yet. Bravo.
Jim Gregory having any issues with the pvd finish?
I’ve owned a pair of these as my EDC for 5 years now and they shoot wonderfully, run like tops, and make me smile everyday. Loaded with Federal HST 124 gr +P
I love my Sig p226 Legion SAO!
No complaints whatsoever.
I really appreciate the production quality of these videos.
The features that you get make it the price reasonable....that is if you already think Sig prices are reasonable from the start. Either way I got the 226 and I love how it shoots, and I love the cool factor, so the haters can suck it, and get a job.
As an unemployed bloke, my P226 and I take offense to that 'get a job" remark.. ;]
i have the 229 legion
I just got my legion and freaking love the trigger, the more trigger time I get on Glock’s and other guns the more appreciation I gain for others
The finish with time will get the coolest looking
“Battle worn” look if you carry it all the time, in other words it will just get more awesome with time and use
I carry it often and it has barley any wear. The Cerecote finish model in a Mitch Rosen or galco stow n go holsters
You decock Sigs with thumb from support hand!
aye
Just gotta learn how to shoot them. Practice
You put out legit content. Keep it up. I look forward to more.
PS.good taste.and a friend kept saying “look at lucky gunner ballistics online”.finally did.good work & Appreciate you’re time & effort.
I spot a Goruck Tac Hat! Great hats! This was the first video of yours that I've seen and I'm impressed. I'll be subbing for sure!
@0:57
Wrong. Berretta is almost the equal of Sig Sauer. The American miltary chose Berretta over Sig because the 92's were like $200 cheaper than the p226's. The Navy Seals chose the Sig p226 over the 92 because they wanted what was best, not sacrificing reliability for price.
You and Colion Noir have hands down the best reviews on the Legion series. Thanks for the great video!
One of the nicest shooting out of the box pistols ive ever shot. At 18 yards first time shooting i hit every plate on the tree without any misses. Beautiful gun and love shooting it.
Most everything you like or endorse ...I like too.also the thought process behind it all are spot on.IMHO.thx
The classic Sigs are great pistols.
The standard Sig decocker is literally perfect for decocking with a locked thumbs grip.
Dan E, trying to decide between the two. Why did you have the 229 as a duty gun over the 226?
My department range master chooses our weapons. The 229 is a little smaller and easier carried off duty.
Got it, thanks
Lovely review. I'm sure you get this request all the time, but I would love to see you review some Cz75 varients. Personally, my 9mm of choice.
I'm wanting a p220 legion already. Can't wait for that. I love the p220.
+john jones Yep. I'll get to the CZs eventually.
+Lucky Gunner Ammo awesome.
The cz’s are awesome pistols. Love my sp01
I've had mine for 4 years. Went to get my license and then the gun immediately after watching this video
Great Video! Always enjoy watching material pertaining to Sig :)
Love a gun with a hammer and thumb safety, and I am partial to Sig's anyway.
is expensive! awesome and does the same job like any others. practice is all people needs
The take up is great and the break is sweet.
*Best gun videos on TH-cam. For real.*
p.s. What's that tune in the first minute of the video?
"Glitched Out" by tacoMusic: www.tacomusic.co.uk/
Thanks!
p.s. I *love* the 1.5 second intro. So many channels have long, boring intros.
Lucky Gunner Ammo could you do a review on a Beretta Px4 Storm on either size of a compact or a Full-Size model of a 9mm or either caliber since I also carry a Full-Size Beretta on me everyday most of the time but sometimes I carry a 1911 but MOST of the time it's my Px4 Storm I carry on me most of the time
+Keith Dowlen I did a two part review of the PX4 Compact last year.
Lucky Gunner Ammo cool, I'll look it up & didn't know you already did a review on the Storm, I appreciate it man 👍👍
Nice to see another Beretta fan. The Beretta M9 is one of the great all-time pistols ever. A lot of ignorant hatred for it. I'd take a Beretta over a Glock (and I own 3 glocks so, i'm not a hater)
Agree! That 92x Performance will make you moist😎
I want this gun. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those guys who can afford every gun he wants. Great review though!
Any chance you'll be looking at the Sig SP2022? It's roughly the same size as the 229 and would be Sig's DA/SA polymer competitor to the Beretta Storm you reviewed.
You should do an HK P30 video. It's in line with the SA/DA theme that you have been doing
+kmd1234 If you buy me one, I'll review it :)
love the look of it, but as a lefty without a lot of money, I'd prefer the compact P30 or VP9
Is there any difference between this gun and the P229 Elite? It looks identical but with a lighter gray color and the emblem in the grip.
Hello. Need your advice if you have a moment. I have a Sig P226 Legion SAO and a Springfield 1911-A1 Range Officer Elite both in 9mm. One has to go. Which would you keep? Thank you!
Great video! We just got the 226 and love it!
Great!!! Another expensive gun that I gotta put on my wish list!
+Duane Griffith I carried a P01 for a couple of years, so I'm quite well acquainted. Will probably do some kind of CZ review down the road.
Nice review. Many years ago, I bought some high-priced carbon-fiber golf clubs, but my game still sucked. :-) Good point about bad shooters not improving with an expensive gun.
Nice drop on the Tom G. cert.
Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you like the CZ. Wouldn't the P229's barrel be too short for Canada anyway?
It's a heavy trigger, but how does it shoot bros? I'm thinking about it this holiday season
I hit the decocker like second nature. Never once thought it’s hard to get to
Hello Chris, one more time you "master" the video, serious.
Honestly, if I do something with the CZ75 series, it will probably be one of the compact models like the P01.
Thanks, better than nothing... So you don't think much about the SP01 tactical? Thanks.
Sorry just remember...the Beretta 92 is a full size pistol... same size than CZ 75 SP01...
I wouldn't buy a Legion just because of the "Club" thing. I bought a P229R and installed the SRT trigger and a new spring kit. So Nice!
Funny, the undercut trigger guard was also the feature that made my Legion P226 SAO RXP worth it to me.
LG, are the internals coated ON THE leigon like the MK 25? Great vidio. I have the Nitron 229. Had the SRT installed as well as siglight nightsights.
i heard that they may be phasing out .40 caliber..???
I know I'm super late to your double action journey but if you havent checked the cz p01 or p07 I advise you do so
Even later to the party but yeah, the CZ, the PX4 compact carry as well as smaller versions of Beretta’s 92 series……and maybe the HK P30SK…..along with the P229, as good as DA/SA carry gets.
Really nice looking and solid gun.. but its hard to compare when you can buy 2 glock gen 5’s with upgraded sights and tlr stream lights
If it works fine with weak ammo, and fails with hot defensive loads, you're limp wristing the gun.
Sean Vine for sure. And NO I'm not limp wristing it.
Any plans to try out the Arex Zero One?
Nope, no plans right now.
Lucky Gunner Ammo really wish you would do a review of the zero one. I am torn between arex zero one combat and p229 legion. Currently have a vp9.
JM Custom Kydex
thank you!!!!
I can't decide if I want this or the p226mk.
@US ARMY VET 11B 96-14 thanks for the reply, I was leaning towards the legion anyways, now I gotta decide between the pvd or cerakote finish. I like the looks of the pvd better but heard bad things about it.
I have a dak and was wondering if it is worth upgrading
I got noob and let the decocking hammer got rusty... Should I do a coating on it since it is a regular steel hammer?
Sigs, in DA/SA flavor, are anti lefty. So they lose 10% of the market right there.
Are you gonna find some CZs? I love my P07 Compact.
Why are they anti lefty? I'm a left hand shooter and I love my P229R and my P226R.
because the controls are right handed only.
I have absolutely no problem operating the decock with my forefinger and the mag release with my middle finger. Yes, it would be nice if Sig started making them ambidextrous but I am just as fast operating the controls on my Sigs as I am on any of my ambidextrous guns.
They are in the wrong spot. The magazine release IS easier with the trigger finger but the decocker and slide release are in the wrong spots.
Would love to see your do a review on the new Wilson EDC X9
Personally I think the Legion series was marketing hype. I have numerous P series that are a dream to shoot and shoot well. One of my best is the P220 Elite. And my M11 is a close second. But my opinion is just that...great video as usual.
I have a coworker that swears by his p220 Elite.
i have the p226 legion (my 4th p226) and love it. but i agree about the finish. ive been carrying mine most days for about a month, and it has about 800 rounds down it and the finish is showing pretty good signs of wear. i wonder how it will hold up but do not have high hopes
