@@misha-elministries5246 I entirely echo RaffaelaIT's comments and guess what, Misha Baby, I'm a Christian. I guess it's entirely possible to live alone, no husband or kids, have lovely pets, a beautiful house and garden, and travel . . . AND be a Christian, too, since that's my exact status also. How about that, you judgemental croak. You are the worst of Christianity and you make me ASHAMED OF YOU to read your know-it-all, uber-judgemental, nasty comment about another woman whose religious status you wouldn't have a clue about.

I would like to add the fifth suggestion..
Find something to occupy your mind by doing something productive. You could sort the house out by focusing on each room or a corner each day to get rid of the accumulated stuff. Create your own exercise routine, learning from watching videos on TH-cam. Join a library to start reading books, if you don’t already. It is very important to keep our brain ticking, and body healthy.

I love the freedom of being able to do everything from staying up late to sew with music on to having a martini with cheese and crackers for dinner if that’s what I feel like. Having children is over rated as far as for me. I am divorced & I turned 76 last July. I have 2 boys. One lives far in a different state, I haven’t seen him for over 25 years & the other one lives in my town but not seen for over 2 years. They are very busy with living their own lives, no time for the only mother or being brothers with each other. They texted me now & again like Christmas or new year. No Mother’s Day’s greeting or birthday calls! No any help in any shape or form! I gave up being sad & I learned to live my life without them! Single & alone is alright as long as you are healthy & financially stable. I am not financially stable but I am in ‘ok health’ so far. Making lots of good friends is essential for morale & mental support & survival at this age. Learn to take good care of oneself and look for the positive things in life. Doing the best I can that’s all I can do….still loving life & keep on learning! Blessings to all❤!

Great tips but unfortunately not all of us can travel, live elsewhere, go to alot of places unless we have the means and the desire. Also, please never overestimate where you live and deem it safe..... No where is safe these days, even if you are in a "good, safe" area. Self awareness is key anywhere and everywhere. Living alone is not always terrific, it's lonely a lot of times and takes a while to get used to. I applaud you on your journey and joy of living alone, it's just not that easy..... I’d also add:
    1. Leave a spare house key with a neighbour in case you have a fall and can’t get up - it will save the emergency services having to break down your door.
    2. ALWAYS carry your mobile (cell) phone wherever you go on your property: if I were to pass out in my rear garden no-one would see me for all the greenery so don’t get caught out - always plan for emergencies.
    3. If you live in a concrete jungle and hate it - move. I left it too late and am now stuck in a house I love in a location I loathe because the local authority (city hall) focusses on families, not older people. Don’t make the same mistake.

It just wasn't in the cards for me but I wish it had been different. I don't waste time wallowing in misery but I do wish things had been different for me. I have friends and relatives who have had very long marriages or relationships and I'm happy for them but occasionally feel sad that I never managed that.

i can best relate to YOUR comment. Divorced for 18 years, in my mid 60's. Miss male company and am disappointed I haven't connected with any available and suitable men beyond a few pretty awful 'dates'. No interest in independent, self sufficient, capable women, apparently. It is not as if I flaunt myself around how I can do everything, etc. I do so cause I have no choice. I would dearly love a partner, preferably a husband! It isn't all that great to make decisions on my own and carry the whole load alone, 24/7. I fixed my washing machine and dishwasher and am proud of that. I take care of my finances, car, cleaning, shopping, travel, do hobbies, go to activities, keep fit, eat well, read, help with grandkids, etc, but sure would be nice to have some relief and TLC, from outside now and again. The solitude is just too much after awhile.Women friends are fine, but can never be a replacement for the real deal. Many married friends got it right first time, 40 odd years ago. Can't help but wonder why I did not and how things got messed up... sigh...

My husband died over a year ago and I hate living alone. I absolutely can't stand it. I miss having him say I love you, to give me a compliment I know he meant, the companionship, to have someone to talk to, to sound off ideas to, to share things with, to work side by side, etc, etc. You ladies that are happy being alone, that's great and I know everyone's situation is different. As for me, I'd rather have him with me to do the things that are talked about here. No fear here just lots of loneliness.

I understand what you're saying. My husband of 41 years passed away almost 4 years ago, and it has been a difficult transition. Right now I feel like I'm somewhere in between your loneliness and Kimberly's lifestyle. Like Kimberly I find myself enjoying some of the freedoms of living alone. I can keep things clean and organized, eat what I want when I want, etc., but I miss the companionship of having my husband by my side, to talk to, and snuggle with. My youngest daughter got me a rescue dog almost 3 years ago and that has made a difference in my life. I still enjoy those freedoms, but now I have some companionship and unconditional love. Obviously, it's not the same as human companionship and I still miss my husband and always will, but it has helped me. I no longer feel like I'm talking to myself because my little fur baby is there listening, though most likely not understanding. But she's excellent company, and I don't know what I'd do without her. You're still fairly new in your widowhood, so give yourself time to continue grieving and adapting. Things will get easier and you will find what works for you to bring joy into your life again and feel less lonely. I'll be praying for you in your new journey. 🙏💕

There's no short cut through grief. Each person must goes through the process in their own way. 18 years ago I was unexpectedly widowed. It was devastating! 6 months after I decided I had to make an effort to move on and I enrolled in every class that sounded interesting at my community center. I fell in love with line dance, no partner required. Then surprisingly, my previous place of employment asked if I would like to return. Best thing ever! I retired 3 yrs ago at 83. There's still a hole in my heart and a song, thought, or comment will bring tears but with some effort on my part, life slowly became full and satisfying in a different way. I wish this for you. 🤗 ❤

There again I also believe it's best not to dwell on grief for too long because I'm sorry to say we humans get fed up of people who are always miserable. That’s all well and good if you live in a friendly and warm area as you do - try being single and older in dull, grey, rainy and unfriendly UK where no-one speaks to you, smiles or even has eye contact: and if you’re an ‘elder orphan’ people think there’s something wrong with you! I had a bad fall in April and was stuck in bed for 7 weeks - not one of my neighbours came to check if I was OK - and one of them’s a preacher! You are SO lucky.

None of us lived in the same state where they did. They wanted to stay put. We helped as we could around our jobs. I also encouraged her to attend Alzheimer’s Association meetings. She tried one meeting but felt the folks weren’t kind. I asked her to try another group but she didn’t care to try again. I wished I’d tried those same meetings where I’d lived. Its a modified version of pre-alzhimers but we enjoy even though the conversations have nearly disappeared. And yes, a lot of work that I am humbled and honored to do.
But you made me chuckle when you said being alone allows you to wear what you want - I laugh because even with my husband’s inability to articulate or converse anymore -he mainly just whistles or smile’s. But recen when I put on an a very expensive brand new gown to attend an out of town wedding -he sure found a way to express his dislike for the gown and shattered my thoughts of how lovely I must look 😆
Luckly I brought with me a backup gown that I could tell he thought was ok. So I wound up leaving the Sachini and Bachi gown along with hotel room tip behind on a hanger.

I don't have a car, and cannot afford even a used one. I have to walk to a bus stop to wait for a bus, and then have to tranfer to another bus. I don't own a Smartphone because I can't afford one. I rent a tiny room in an elderly person's house. I am on a super fixed income and even getting to a senior citizen center is two buses each way. Especially hard in hot weather, too hard to be waiting at bus stops to go to a senior center in 90 + degree weather. I have alway lived alone but when I was younger and worked, I rented a one bedroom apt. Now I cannot even afford a studio apt as rents are so high nowadays, on a very fixed income. There is a large senior citizen apt. not too far from me but you have to have 3 x monthly income over the renr to qualify to live there. I think the one bedrooms rent for $1, 750 a month, so you have to have 3 x that. They don't have studio apts. there. So it is very hard to be alone sometimes. My family was never self sufficient type people and we never even camped our or knew how to do things, We always lived in apts anyway, never had a house.

Whether tutoring a student, helping a much older person, volunteering at church, etc. You live in a very expensive rent area...Any chance of moving to a smaller city where rents might be lower. However, you might have friends or grandchildren in the area where you live, and being near them might be important, also.

Going to a nice restaurant at lunchtime feels different than in the evening. I do go out by myself at night, especially when on holiday. But some people will ask you if you are on your own. Some people even act as though they feel sorry for you. But there is admiration too, especially from the women who would clearly rather be alone than with boorish companions. Sometimes men will try to join you thinking you are looking for company, so it is best to have your no face ready. Still, a smart outfit and a solo lunch has a different vibe. Even when I was in my twenties and married I often had theatre days or park days alone with a nice lunch. My then husband had no interest in my hobbies, and I was happy to go alone rather than argue about it. I do not get the same problems with a restaurant lunch as I do with dinner, and the journey home is safer and easier.

Thank you for this video this morning. I needed your positive attitude and great suggestions. My husband passed away almost 6 years ago.

I am almost 60. My husband passed away suddenly 4 years ago. I recently started offering my spare furnished bedroom to traveling nurses. They need 3 months at a time. They work long hours.
I work full-time. By having short contracts, I can keep my house available for when my kids come visit. And I can be alone in between contracts until I'm ready to rent it again.

This is all well and good if you are financially set up as an older single woman but there are just as many who aren’t doing so well on that front and life is a struggle so what do you say to them? Go buy an Estée Lauder face cream to cheer themselves up?? Honestly …. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Going to the grocery store and choosing everything you want is so fun after taking care of others for so long!

All the health steps one can take is no guarantee that bad things won’t happen. Best to have a plan for that.
