This is one of my favorites!! I lived alone for 17 years before marrying again, and I know I can do so again if I lose my husband. We’re in our 70’s and know that time might be short, but I watched my mom live alone for 50 years after my dad passed away and learned so much from her. Thank you for this!
Something I learned, and wish I'd known decades ago: no amount of stress/anxiety/worry ever ever ever changed the outcome of anything. Thanks for this video. Great encouragement. I've been without live-in partner for 25 years. I don't exactly love it, but I'm happy!!
I've been following your videos for months and decided to subscribe after seeing your content about living alone. You're truly an inspiration to women of all ages. Please keep making videos about independent living; they’re incredibly uplifting!
Thank you, Kimberly! My last child just left for college this fall. This video inspired me to plan a solo one month stay in Mexico in a teeny tiny casa where I will continue to work online. You are so inspiring!🥰
After being married and raising 5 kids for 40 years,my husband passed away 11 years ago,at first it was hard but l have learned to accept my fate and actually learned to enjoy the peace and quiet and just doing what l wanted to do.
Dear Limberly, Thank you so much for this post. You are a courageuse and inspiring woman. I am French, I am alone, leaving in Paris area, I am 65 and still working but I plan to retire in 2 years. Your experience (moving around in places you love and not spending as much than you would do at home), is truly inspiring. I have been moving around quite a bit throughout my career, but listening to you, I feel like traveling and moving again. Thank you for waking me up ! My best,
Sliders under my furniture are my best friend. I don't care how they look. Lol. Also a small 2 wheel truck can be useful for moving smaller heavier things like flower pots.
I set goals and track my progress. Eating, exercise, learning something new, financial, and stepping out of my comfort zone are goals I track. Very motivating.
I love when you post this type of content! I’m in my 50s and live a single by choice lifestyle too. I learn a lot from your tips and tricks! Thank you!!!
I never worried about living alone because I'm fit and healthy. However, accidents do happen, as I learned the hard way. Being fit and healthy made my recovery faster and easier but it was a big wakeup call to be mindful and pay attention to prevent further accidents. I asked my neighbors to help take out the garbage when I was housebound. Fortunately these days you can get most items you need delivered.
I assume that even married people occasionally take a shower alone. A friend of mine, In her 70's is slipped and broke her hip and her husband only found her an hour later when he came looking for her because he wanted lunch. I also always keep my phone close at hand in case something like a fall happens.
Great video - I have been alone for 3 years since my husband passed away and I'm over 70! You are so right about asking for help. Unfortunately I haven't quite conquered hating to ask for help, but you have made me feel better about doing this in the future. Love all your tips!
I always make sure I have my phone on me just in case I trip, fall or maybe feel unwell. Another is my watch that if it thinks I’ve had a fall it rings my sos number or emergency service. Friends are important and I’ve had to learn to ask for help etc. . Also keep my ear to the ground when it comes to useful contacts such as electricians, carpenters, decorators etc.
You are so right about creative options…it’s all in the attitude! My attitude is…I don’t want to hear it can’t be done…I want to know what it will take to do it, and then I can make a decision! 😊
I love living alone. I just ended a 3 year relationship with a narcissist. I am recovering from that as well. Prior to him coming into my life I was happy, content and lived drama-free. I enjoy my own company. I don't need anyone to complete me. Im already complete. Someone who compliments my already happy life is great, but not necessary. Should my Higher Power put someone in my path, great. If not in the plans for me, also great. My kids are grown up and live far from me but they're both doing well.
Wow Kimberly! You have given me much food for thought! How inspiring! I love your positivity and creative solutions! I’m 59 and 8 months post- divorce! I will definitely be thinking of “creative solutions” to enhance my current living situation! Thank you for sharing! ❤😊
Thank you for sharing your stories. It really makes me think about doing something I have been wanting to do for awhile. I just have to learn how to get paid doing classes over Zoom. Another suggestion I would like to mention that I remembered reading about staying safe in your home is be careful of how much you carry up and down steps in your home. You don't want to take a chance and fall. I also had light fixtures that needed bulbs replaced. I called one of my male friends who is taller and younger than me. I had a step stool and I stood close to him while he changed the bulb for me. I just subscribed to your channel and shared a video of living alone with my mom. She also enjoyed it.😊😊
Love this video and should listen to it daily for inspiration. I was widowed very unexpectedly 18 years ago and now at 86 beginning to find life a challenge. Thankfully my health is good but it's all the "what ifs" and how to tackle things that now get me down. Age can bring unexpected changes. Thank you for your positivity. ❤️
Loved hearing some of the details of your story Kimberly! It’s a great reminder to make life decisions from a place of creativity and courage to try new things!!! Way too often we get stuck in focusing on the potential obstacles of choice rather than the expensive and fun opportunities!!! Thanks so much for reminding us of what’s possible operating from an empowering frame of mind!!!
So inspiring! Although not living alone, retirement is looming and there’s a whole wide world out there waiting for me to explore! Love you and your content so much!!❤
I love this. What a fantastic story. I lived alone for ages and then in 2023 I moved in with some friends. I've been with them for about 16 months and am moving back to a place on my own this month and I'm really excited. My friends are going to move to Spain for a while and I've got a new-ish job where I have 4 years left to be vested for a pension, so I'm staying where I am. Love your advice about the ladder and REALLY love your information about taking care of your health to make it easier to continue to live alone. I got an Apple Watch 3 years ago for the fall detection, which is also some peace of mine. I also have Echo devices everywhere, so between the watch and the Echo, I can call for help if I do fall and can't easily move.
I love living on my own. Marriage did not work for me. I taught myself to do the thing around my home that need doing. I cannot imagine ever living with another person full time. I've been told I'm selfish, I've had people tell me they feel sorry for me, which is sweet but really misplaced. I do have friends I even occasionally date but at the end of the day I'm much happier in my own space living my life by my rules
I just love your attitude about life in general. I never miss any of your videos and review the ones I have not yet seen. Thank you so much for this refreshing outlook on life over 50 & 60, forever grateful.
What you describe as your past time in Surface Design is what I'm doing now (going on 18 years) and you are 100% right...there are VERY few who ever make the big time in this industry. I am close to taking early retirement as it is totally draining me.
61 and single for 6 years !😊 people ask don't you ever feel lonely? ... no never, the loneliest I have felt was when I was in "situationships " ... not for me never again 😊
I love being alone with Annie, of course 🐾. I am concerned about my health, but I work on keeping strong. I keep my phone with me everywhere!!! It's a habit now. I also keep a key fob on my bed stand, from the gal with security tips. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. You really showed me that life does continue on weather you are rich or poor. I love your inspiration it gives me positive hope I will be ok.
Anybody can have a medical emergency home alone. I used to fear my husband would choke when he was home with our baby. You just have to be careful, avoid tripping hazards, chew your food, and don't do anything stupid. You can't fear being home alone.
So ironic that just last night,I was looking at videos of living in other countries, more affordably. And trying to come up with a plan for when I retire. Which isn’t that far away believe it or not. But thank you for the input and the ideas! I really appreciate your creativity and coming up with solutions. I’m going to take all of this into account! Thanks Kimberly!
I love art!! I could spend detailed time at it. I watched an artist, Greg Olsen, and he just goes very slow, and is very detailed!! His paintings are beautiful!! And they sell for a lot!! But first I just want to enjoy it.😊!!
Thank you for this video. I love your way of thinking and how you are able to turn a problem into an opportunity. It all makes so much sense like knowing that worrying is not going to change anything but I have never mastered it myself. I overthink things until I make them seem impossible or too scary. Listening to you is so soothing and knowing you really did these things and made a success of them does begin to shift my mindset. Thank you again, you are an inspiration.
Our stories are vastly different. In 2005 I got married an awesome man. I was 53, he was 43. I was a waitress, he was a truck driver. In 2018 we realized we weren’t going to be able to retire in California. We researched states to move to . We settled on Kingman, AZ. We were waiting for an opening with his company so he could transfer. Instead he got fired! We packed up everything loaded two trucks and our 5th trailer moved to Arizona. We picked there because we were still close enough to get to California to see our families. He wasn’t having any luck finding a local job, so he went back to long haul. The beginning of March 2020 and we all know what happened in 2020. Forward to October 26, 2021 and he informed me he’d talked to a lawyer about a legal separation. I was totally blindsided. The separation turned into a divorce. I have been living alone since October 26, 2021. Actually before that because he came home about once a month. We are divorced and I’m still living in the 5th wheel. Not where I saw myself living in 2019. I’m ok, I live in an RV park, I’m able to make it on social security.
That's really difficult. I think (at 72 myself) this type of shock is actually harder to take when you're older than when you were younger. Best wishes.
Thank you for sharing - very inspiring. I keep saying I'm going to move somewhere cooler for the summer months ... I love your story about swapping Tahoe for Florence! And I actually didn't know we could ask airbnb hosts for long stay discounts. Nice!! ❤
Thank you, Kimberly. I am struggling right now with a few things, so the timing of this video is perfect. I am off to think of some creative solutions. ♥♥♥
You possess and innate ability of strength, positivity, adventure, and determination. You set your mind on goals and dreams, then go forward until you reach them. You are a unique and rare individual in that whatever the outcome is, you continue to move forward by not letting anything stand in your way for your next goal or project. In my entire life I’ve never watched or known anyone like you. You have a kind and loving heart that draws people in to join in on your joy for life. You are a true blessing of inspiration❣️
Hi Kimberly, great Topic. I at 63 and have lived solo for several yrs., like you, I decided I am not going to worry about the “ What if’s” if so,etching was to Hellen to me, I have friends that will come check on me and neighbors I hope will realize that something is t right. And if moving something heavy, I ( am stubborn) will do my best to tackle it, if I find I cannot do it alone, I too will ask for help. When working as a contract Nurse/ Cardiovascular Sonographer, Malin thousands / mo. Went from that to a very tight income( due to an injury while on a contact 1800 mi. From home, made me realize I’ve got to figure out how Iam going to “ survive” living on a very tight income and I did it and yes, there are days I find it challenging, but overall, I am doing ok. At 63, I love living alone, and I just make it work and love it. I have done some private nursing in order to pay off bills, but overall, I am not going to worry about the what ifs in life, and Iam going to be just fine even with the challenges that may come up. Great video topic Kimberly. Thank you for sharing your story’s. At times, I regret not buying a travel trailer and a truck so I could do what I so much loved doing and that was traveling. If I had bought a travel trailer/ truck, I could go where my heart is ( Arizona) and park close to the water and live there for a few months at a great price and then move on to somewhere else. But I didn’t do that, so I make where Iam at happy and even with financial limits, I do ok
I do believe some people are made to live alone whereas others need the day to day social contact to keep their lives going. It definitely helps if you have good health and sufficient income to live off. I also believe you’ve got to have courage to travel and live in a new place on your own.
Being a minimalist….get out of debt, build a savings, spend “no” more money on anything but preparedness, get a 72-hr kit and storage (food, hygiene, paper/plastic products, minimal office supplies, clothing/shoes/boots, other), if you have what you need now and in the near future.
I would absolutely love to move to the Villages and live like you do Kimberly, but I can promise you , you are better off than 60% of your subscribers. I'm not trying to be mean or ugly, just life happens differently for all of us. I'm 55, but had to stop working as a RN to take care of my mom who had a hemorrhagic stroke. I had enough years in to take early retirement but really had to take a cut. So I live on about 39,000. A year. I don't think you could live your lifestyle on that a year. If you do, please tell me because I'm moving to Florida 😅
I live with two of my siblings, who are retired, and no spouse for either of us. While I really like my solitude, we try to give each other space. If able, I might try going to another country for extended periods of time when I retire.
I keep my cellphone with me at all times and even when I go to the bathroom because I feel safe. Now, I’m ready to go to the fire department and have them put in a box with key in it so there is always an entry for them and they know I live alone. BTW, I’m 3 months away from 80.
I’ve lived alone most of my life and totally enjoyed it. I’m 71 and I have lots of wonderful friends.
I am 67 and I love living alone You have to learn to make yourself happy!
You are exactly right about learning to make yourself happy!

Happy being alone, meaning no husband ❤❤❤
Totes agree🤗
Agree. No aggravation.
Me, too!!! I used to want a boyfriend, but now I don't even care to bother with that. It's wonderful to be free!

As you said, friends play a big part of your scenarios. When you are socially awkward and have no friends it’s a different story.
Yeah. I hope she does a video on how to meet people.
You are a strong, amazing woman! Thank you for sharing your experiences! ❤

At 65 and single, (12yrs), I get the same question: Are you lonely? Are you scared? NOPE😊
Hi,you deserve 1000 thumbs up not just one. What a smart hard working woman you are. What an incredible person.

You are for sure a very resourceful and thoughtful lady. I love all of your videos, Kimberly. Thank you! ❤❤
This was awesome! I love your can-do attitude .
I loved this video. I met you years ago in New York city when you were in the art business. You are amazing. God bless you

Kimberly, thank you for being such a bright light of inspiration! That color is stunning on you! ❤️
I’m so thankful you did this video. You’re my inspiration!😁
Great video Kimberly! Although I am married so I am not alone but it sure does show how you can make lemonade out of lemons❤
You are extraordinarily creative!
You're so brave!❤

I love being alone with Annie, of course 🐾. I am concerned about my health, but I work on keeping strong. I keep my phone with me everywhere!!! It's a habit now. I also keep a key fob on my bed stand, from the gal with security tips. Thanks.
My favorite video to date. Thank you. Great advice!
Thank you for this video. You really showed me that life does continue on weather you are rich or poor. I love your inspiration it gives me positive hope I will be ok.

Remarkable what you have accomplished. Today there’s the added concern of a single woman and her safety. I’m not sure how you creatively solve that
Use common sense. She did a video with a security expert a while back
You just inspired me even more to go for starting a business and, more importantly, to loosen up the ranges of what I "think" is possible!!! ❤

I do believe some people are made to live alone whereas others need the day to day social contact to keep their lives going. It definitely helps if you have good health and sufficient income to live off. I also believe you’ve got to have courage to travel and live in a new place on your own.
You inspired my creative curiosity. 😊 I don't quite have the balls to travel overseas alone but you go girl! ❤
Yes ,everything before COVID was different and less expensive ,today is different story 😢
The midwest is much cheaper than either coast
Reconsider moving to Florida. After the hurricane and Covid, prices are through the roof.
Kimberly, I really enjoy your videos. I was wondering where you purchased the turquoise top you're wearing in this one. It's so pretty!
You were Brilliant and your timing was impeccable 😮..now no where on the planet is reasonable well...equador and Malaysia....well done 👍
The sweater you are wearing is lovely. Where did you get it?
I live with two of my siblings, who are retired, and no spouse for either of us. While I really like my solitude, we try to give each other space. If able, I might try going to another country for extended periods of time when I retire.
Thanks for sharing ❤
I keep my cellphone with me at all times and even when I go to the bathroom because I feel safe. Now, I’m ready to go to the fire department and have them put in a box with key in it so there is always an entry for them and they know I live alone. BTW, I’m 3 months away from 80.
What a great idea. I never heard of this using help to assist the fire department to gain access to my home.
