I'm not sure how much has changed over the past decade, but Hondata is (was?) definitely the way to go for Hondas. I was an early adopter of Cobb's venture into Honda tuning with my 07 Si and... I moved over to Hondata pretty quickly! Not to talk poorly of Cobb -- nowadays I'm a Subaru guy with an AccessPort -- it just wasn't a good experience. Of course, this only applies to the OTS tunes, which were much more experimental at the time. The product itself was fine.
Nice to see Cobb support the FL5. Really like its mac compatibility. Had a Cobb OTS 93 tune on my ecoboost mustang for 20k miles and it was a great map.
Wtf I swear it’s just Tune Your Honda week. I just flashed Phearable OTS on my FC3 and my buddy just flashed Phearable OTS on his FK8 hahaha I love seeing a bunch of people having fun with these cars all at once. It makes me so happy.
We’ve had a number of Focus ST’s and Focus RS’s traded in at my work that had Cobb tunes, so it’s nice to see them come into the Honda world! The type R is probably one of my favourite cars to rip around.
I've been looking to get a V3 accessport for my 2023 Subaru WRX, people say it drives like a totally different car after an E-tune. I've only heard good things about tuned VBs but I just can't justify dropping nearly a grand on a accessport and an E-tune in college. One day it will happen, it's really cool to see COBB in the Honda space now.
Hondata with phearable stage 2 tune is the way to go 5 modes and in the low power modes you can drive fast and corner in the rain like its dry ground the traction tuning is that good 381hp and 383tq with just a k&n filter no mods
I don't know if you will ever consider putting on some coilover on this, but there is a Japanese company call RS-R that makes coilover for FL5 and FK8 that are compatible with factory suspension control. Which could be an interesting option.
Not cobb - but got a similar OTS tune for my MK7.5 GTI earlier this year and it really just woke up the car. Really does make all the difference on enjoyable
I bought an accessport for my 2018 f150 raptor left everything stock with stage 1 tune and it has the transmission tune also which I highly recommend made it almost have a dual clutch transmission feel very smooth shifting compared to stock. My buddy bought one ages ago in high school for his 06 wrx wagon and we were blown away by the witchcraft magic computer
Man I miss my FL5 so much. Just totaled was sitting in traffic doing nothing. Went from a SS 1LE to that and it was one of my favorite cars ever. Hopefully one day I'll get another. Settled for a crv sport hybrid for now
How do you like the CRV? I have a 22 civic sport and I’m debating between that hybrid sport L CRV or the type R. Also i live in Buffalo. The CRV is the sensible choice. But i want a manual again
@ unless you plan on winterizing your type r get a CRV I have the L trim as well it's great. Build quality is unreal and MPG and the overall ride is great.
@@andreshirinian6558 two completely different cars. I live in the north east and fwd is more feasible than a rwd for daily use. Build quality Honda is hands down miles better. But power and handling you can't compare. And engine 3 times the size and a manga ride suspension. I called it the poor mans GT3 car did it all but it's a shame I never drove it. Put more miles on in 3 months than I did in2 years.
I think Hondata is basically dead. The older guy there is likely at the end of his career. I’d imagine it will either dissolve or be sold. Various flash pro application have been out of stock for years even newer platforms. Not sure if he was hit with EPA action but it’s basically crickets at Hondata unfortunately.
@@romeropostali520 Hondata is far from dead, they've been touring the whole US doing jailbreaks and allowing people to buy flashpros on the spot for FL5 and FK8. The Flashpro had a chip storage issue and they swapped to FlashPro Minis. I picked mine up this year in person with the jailbreak tour. They've been actively doing upgrades regularly still with DE5's burple and pop they added to FL5 and just recently updated for the FK8 for those people who want it. A lot of custom tuners still working on the platform. Also the turn out has been crazy at every tour spot. Had around 20-25 FL5/Fk8s for the tour where I am.
I have the ‘24 DE5 & would like an accessport if it provided me with an oil temperature estimate like what the CTR has from the factory. Not having a factory oil temperature estimate is the only thing I don’t like about my ITS. Power wise I don’t feel like the car needs any more, and I also don’t like the idea of needing to get my ECU “jail broken” so I can utilize the accesport. On previous cars I’ve owned the accessport was always “plug n play” right out of the box. Cobb is solid company and congratulations on what you have turned your CTR in to. I really enjoy your content and reviews.

I did an EcuTek tune on my GR Corolla. Everything you said about the Cobb tune was similar to my experience with the ET tune. (more power - lower down & 4k +, & a much more streetable car) From my limited exposure - it almost seem that doing any kind of "reputable" tune should be a slam dunk for this type of car - for more power or to simply optimize your car's drivability.

I have an FL5 with several upgrades and was thinking about tuning with Hondata however, sending out the ECU and being without a vehicle for a few days just makes me a little nervous. You mentioned in this video that you’re testing out the Cobb System and you said that you sent your ECU to Austin Texas for unlocking. Well I live in Austin Texas and I wonder if I could have the address of where you sent the ECU to so that I can go in person and speak to somebody about possibly owning one of these Cobb tuning devices. @@TheTopher I agree with how solid our K20C1 is. Especially with the recent test of the HRC-K20C (Spec D) at the Suzuka Circuit, which is based on our engine. There is 4 variations that was developed to cater different racing categories. Spec A with 300 horsepower class, all the way up to Spec D targeting 600 horsepower class. Our engines is definitely built to withstand harsher racing conditions.
@CJax749 I didn't say it was loud - it's annoying. I don't drive the car that often (900 miles in the year since I've purchased it) so I haven't spent a ton of time going thru the menus. This weekend I found it, all is good now!

Oof. Cobb'd it. reliability level reduced from Honda to Chrysler in one simple step. Keep in mind that scanning can show ECU reflashes so putting it back to stock doesn't mean the dealer won't know. Not that you care Mr. TheTopher because I'm sure yours is paid bought with cash but to the Lease Kings out there...
cobb would be last place id go for a honda tune .. way better ones out there. the phearable stage 2 map is best for type r .. even the stage 1 93 tune is good .. add some e u can run e30 on sthe stock r.....if u think the cobb tune added excitement do the phearable tune ull be like holy shit
I have a 2024 Subaru WRX. Would it be dumb to get a COBB accessport for any type of power? I have nearly 1500 miles on it but i don want to sacrifice reliability for a little more power. Let me know what yall think.
If you can’t afford to rebuild/replace the engine don’t do it. Subaru engines are known to kaboom even stock and tuned cars in general are always a risk. Regardless of how “stout” the engine may be…if you’re still under warranty I personally wouldn’t unless you’re okay with the risk and can afford repairs if it goes south
I mean they would have to prove that the tuning you did caused the issue you are having with your car. So it can. But some dealers also don’t care especially if you have your car tuned and are using parts from a aftermarket company that has a partnership with the brand like how AMS and Infiniti/Nissan have a partnership. At least that’s what some peoples experience has been

You can add 1.5 gallons of e85 to a full tank of 91 to run a 93 tune

It is wild to me that Cobb hasn't updated the AP in over 11 years now. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it and keep charging $600+ for it.

Fa24s are stout motors. Go for it.

Power NEVER comes cheap, thats as affordable as it gets honestly.
Its not just the HP. The drivability of it overall is greatly improved. It seems high at first but its totally worth it once you experience it.
Looks like they have a sale right now for $650
$700 to unlock your ECU and give you a tuning software. You don't have to use Cobb's built in maps, you can go custom

It's well known in the VW and Subbie community that COBB OTS tunes are fair to poor at best.
I recommend not running ANY cobb tune. They are known to cause all sorts of engine damage. Go with a more reputable tuner specific to honda.
