Testing The PH Of Some Car Soaps/Auto Detailing/Car washing/Car Shampoo/Car Soaps

- I wanted to do some tests today on some of my soaps. Knowing the PH of my soaps can be helpful to me when I need to really deep clean. The PH of soap is a big part so that I don’t strip protection if I don’t want to or I have the ability to clean and strip protection in other cases. This test really opened my eyes and had a few big surprises. Watch the video for the results.

Turtle wax max power is my go to car wash soap. For 7 bucks at Walmart you can’t beat that. I only use 3-4 oz on the foam cannon and it gets the job done.

Great video and fun test! I'd be interested to see one of the soap not diluted against itself diluted. Basically just take one of the strips and put it directly into the soap and compare that to what you have here.

Cool test. I'd be very interested in seeing a similar test run between some of the common APC products. Currently I'm using optimum powerclean. Great balance of effectiveness and safety.
What dilutions would u recommend?

Great test! F Bomb can also be used in a foam cannon since its soap based. I hear that is around 12-13 on the ph scale.
So what dilution do u want to be tested?
pH is just one factor in looking at what a shampoo might do. The ingredients, whether there’s caustic stuff, salts, alcohols etc all makes a difference. People get far too hung up on pH - panel wipe is pH neutral, you wouldn’t want to safely clean your car with that too often!
Feynlab Pure Rinseless, super powerful cleaner is pH neutral or thereabouts, but will strip waxes more than all of those I reckon.
I’m just looking at PH and what is stated from the brands. I think they all do a good job.
PH is definitely just one aspect, but panel wipes aren't pH neutral, Carpro eraser, gtechniq Panel wipe etc all aren't neutral and don't claim to be.
@@KiranPatel-fk1pg you should check out the SDS for GTechniq’s Panel Wipe, you might need to think again about your entire statement. Given that the pH of IPA neat is also 7, it isn’t a stretch to think that IPA based panel wipes would also be …. pH7 too?
@@roscopervis Just checked and your right Panel Wipe is approx neutral. But another thing you have to remember is that most panel prep products aren't just IPA, they have degreasers in there to cut through solvent based polishes and compounds. Also Panel Wipe really isn't that great of a product as it swells clear coat so that was a bad example on my part.

Great video sir. I am not quite sure but If i car remember correctly, depending on each products surfactants, the stated ph maybe is different according different dilution ratios , or/and the water's temperature.
You can try just some stronger dilutions in the cup, on Max power and Koch Af to check if any changes to the PH scale.
Well, that may be but then they wouldn’t be affordable at all.
Active foam is designed to be pH 9.5 out of the bottle and pH neutral after dilution through a foam cannon.

A bit disappointed by the Bilt Hampers PH... That 12 feels pretty high. I planned to get it to my maintenance washes this year. Not so sure anymore, as I really want the waxes and sealants to stay long on my car. Nice and different video for sure, thanks!
It’s good, just dilute it more and it will be safe on maintenance
it is perfectly safe, it wont harm your clear coat. doesnt even harm waxes and sealants.
I'd be interested to see the pH of active foam straight from the container just to confirm whether or not it's truely anywhere near 9.5 in full concentrate.

Great test! Interesting results, I always hear different opinions on shampoo pH, what would be the safest for a maintenance wash?
Something PH neutral
Either a Sio2 Cilicia soap or something like Meguiars gold class. Can’t go wrong with gold class for just a basic wash soap on the cheap.

I also skipped this cause the ability to read these strips are ridiculously hard but what super surprised me was a strip soap was pH neutral while the non strip soaps were super high ph
While these results are interesting I kind of expected the readings to be all over the place, I have a digital pH meter and I tested those test strips and found them to be wildly flawed they were giving me different readings on the same samples when I read multiple test strips on one sample then tested things with the digi and sure enough the strips were way off most of the time.
I’ll have to get a digits reader now!! Grrr lol.

Dont see how that Jax Wax 'Strip' Wash is going to strip anything at all?? I think most products today even box store stuff the public uses like Griots 3 in 1 or Turtle S&S would just laugh at that 'strip' wash. Youd need to be up there at least with the SnowFoam Plus to get products like that off. It takes a lot of ph to remove old products as well as really bad road grime.
Ya, I’m not sure what the JAX is doing. Maybe it’s just labeling? Sometimes I think a nice 10ph is good enough for that thorough cleaning and not hurting LSP so much. Moving into the 12ph and u could be hindering LSP. But it’s ok for now n then.

I don’t know what their concentrations are. Dilution recommendations are different.

Turtlewax max power is junk. One of the worst products i have bought since getting into detailing 3 to 4 years ago. Probably the worst frankly. The mother's detail spray that comes with the clay bar was another one i thought was junk off the top of my head. And Koch Chemie have way to complicated labeling even for this geek! - they need a new marketing team lol Their prices are also up there. With the value you get from the Bilt Hamber stuff i will be trying their stuff in the future, especially the APC surfex.
KC does have confusing labels, I agree. Turtle Wax MP is just readily available at the market for cheap. I think I got their gallon for $5. Not my favorite.
@@DetailingBreakdown Its cheap for sure but it's just sitting on my shelf. I'm planning to use it up in my foam cannon mixed 50/50 instead of throwing it in the trash. Most foam cannons need about a 50/50 ratio to get a PIR of 4% i've been told.
Part of the reason their prices are high is because their stuff is from Germany and the last three years their shipping costs have gone through the roof. It sucks because they make good stuff and I agree, only a few of the product names make any sense
