    I surprised a few folks at the end of a livestream when I revealed my completely finished project with this simple and easy technique.
    It seemed simple enough, but I've been slammed with emails and questions on how to do this. So, here's a short How-To.
    I have two different versions on the FREE file in my store for sale.

    First, thank you for sharing this method! Nice video and great option instead of painting!
    Just a few tips as a long-time graphic artist:
    1. Aerosolized spray glue is MUCH worse on your lungs and sinuses than spray paint. You should only use it in a well-ventilated environment like a spray booth or outside and possibly even consider using a respirator. Trust me from someone who use a LOT of it in college and didn't have any sinus issues or allergies and then started having problem in my late 20s and have ever since.
    - That particular spray glue is super goopy. If you noticed when you sprayed it, it kinda looks like you're Spider-Man shooting out webs onto your surface! That may work with thicker papers and card stocks, but on thinner materials may produce wrinkles and other surface imperfections. 3M (and others) also makes some different ones available at about any big box hardware store that are much finer spray, and usually you spray both mating surfaces once and they will bond together permanently, without any glue "boogers" to wrinkle your surface.
    - When attaching your paper, regardless of the finish, I suggest using a hard rubber roller - called a brayer - that's typically used for print making - vs a card or squeegee like you'd use on vinyl. You won't scratch, indent, or accidentally tear your paper surface that way. They cost about $5 from HL and other craft stores, Amazon, etc.
    - Finally, regarding your black paper finish - the only issue with that vs. paint is you kind of end up with a little bit of a rough white edge on your black layer because the gloss black is a layer with a white paper backer. To clean this up and truly make it look finished, simply grab a nice black sharpie marker, and go over your white edges, being careful NOT to get it on the shiny black surface because you CAN see the difference and it will not come off. (Of course you want to do this before gluing the black layer to the bottom layer of wood with the musical notes.) But it will dress up your piece a little more to make it truly look like the finished quality you want to present. (This was a trick I learned long ago cutting black mat board that had a white core.)
    Again, thanks for sharing this awesome technique! I hope these tips help someone and that everyone will be cautious and take care of their lungs around spray glues. You think it's sticky on the back of paper, just think about what that aerosolized buildup might do to your sinuses and lungs!

    I love this idea and I am going to try it. I saw it on the live. Thanks for everything y’all do for the laser community

    A rubber roller will work great for spreading the paper on the wood.

    Hi Steve, I like your two takes on modifying the original. I bought both as the cost of purchasing was way less than my time to modify the original. I went to Hobby Lobby on Tuesday to get the music and black sheets - surprise, they were out of the music and had 3 scratched sheets of black. I’m in AZ, coincidence? Actually had occasion to go to another one a few miles away. Had plenty of both so bought 5 ea. Anyway, thanks again for your video and I’ll make several today on the Roly.

      I do not. I strongly recommend a trip to you neighborhood hobby or craft store. You will find all kinds of prints that may actually inspire a design. The sheet music paper I have available in my local Hobby Lobby is not available online. Their website suggest visiting a local store for possible inventory. But here is a link on Amazon to similar paper. amzn.to/3NENjtt

    Maybe I missed it.. Where do you set focus? on the top wood side or the bottom paper side?

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I set it like I'm simply cutting the wood. If I'm using any cardstock with glitter or high sheen, i cut it face down. I do this to protect the laser and have minimal power loss due to reflectivity.

    Hey again. What laser is that? Looks kinda small but fast.

      This is the nicest diode on the market at this time. It is also extremely UNDERPRICED. It should be selling for at least $400.00 more than it is. Complete package practically no assembly required. You have attached the gantry, mount the laser, route the air assist hose, attach the sides and lid of the enclosure and you are ready to work. Maybe 20 screws. 406 x 400 mm workbed. Honeycomb, rotary and air assist included. hobowithwood.com/Roly10 Grab one while you can.

    is there a way that i could do engraving using gloss white or does this only work on cut because you have to do reverse i want to use this idea if i can engrave on the paper itself

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tried that. I know that the lighter the color the more difficult it can be when directing the laser directly at the surface. test. test. test.

      Since the back of the black paper is white, and the white side is up when cutting, I would imagine the color of the bottom would not have any impact. The laser should not have an opportunity to be reflected from the gloss white since it is facing down. Just a thought.

    Would this method work with wallpaper?

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It should. Depends on the backing of the wallpaper. Some are prepasted. Some are peel and stick. Some are actually clothlike or woven. So I guess it would depend on the paper. If someone wanted to produce several items just alike, a descent pell and stick wall paper might be a good option. You could get a lot from a single roll.
