Just seen this review, thank you, very in depth. Shame they don’t have the knuckle couplings like the yeoman hoppers, but otherwise look good. I completely agree with you on weathering. Accurascale and dapol both seem to avoid the weathering option, and in my opinion, trucks more than anything need to be weathered. They just look look ridiculous in their factory clothes. Thanks again
Have 17 of these great wagons with more to come and only a Hatton's Class 66 to haul them will do, luckily I own 6 Hatton's Freightliner 66's to choose from. Dapol wagons are quite underrated and yes they do have minor livery & tooling mis-steps but for the prices I can live with that and correct.
Wagons of low weight has been a huge problem for me over the years. The running properties are enhanced with weights. So I am glad that Dapol are releasing wagons of substantial weight for a change.
Same experience here. Yes you have to put the heavy trucks next to the loco and the light ones at the end. Sometimes I put copper coins in the trucks to compensate. I find that although there are some bad trucks and some bad tracks you always get things to work somewhere if you get the order right and in the right direction. Just trial and error.
If the friction drag is kept at a minimum it is remarkable how heavy a load even old Lima and Hornby pancake motor locos can haul. The issues only arise - like you mentioned in the video - on gradients.
Agree - the white one needs weather, very detailed wagons (heavy) and good for collector/s to own / display one . Although for normal joe bloggs who just want to own few (8) and then run it on level / gradiant layouts - they seems like they got too much on the detail, weight and the price
I picked up a few of these late last year, really nice wagons. I was and still am pretty impressed with what you get for the price. While I do like that they're a pretty weighty wagon, when I do run them behind a steam loco they do tend to struggle a little and that's just with the 3 I have and a couple of the, in stark contrast, really light weight Oxford ICI wagons. One thing in the review I do disagree with is the removing of a point in the 'Appearence/Detail' catagory for a lack of weathered option. I can get behind doing so in the 'Extras/Variants', but I'd argue that really for the appearence section it should be soley based on the model in front of you. Enjoyed the review as always Cheers
Hi Paul, I take your point. It's the white livery that doesn't work as it stands I believe whereas a decently weathered version of that would hit the mark. For the green livery it's the glowing white on the front and the rear that takes from it in it's pristine form. Looks like Dapol are dropping the white version going forward anyway which would change the score here in line with your point.
i will be getting some of these in the near future as just aquired a set of bachmann class 66, 70 and 90 all in freightliner livery, pity as well as weathering, you can not get a graffiti version, i honestly dont think i have ever seen one of these in real life not tagged up.
The Hornby 92 ran with the 8 wagons I have here without a problem. I think the weight will have produce added wear over time alright but whether that is significant for most users is the question? Something to look out for if picking these up second hand. Thanks for flagging.

Thanks for that.
I have those wagons and I love mine no problems at all looks good with a rake of 11 pulling behind Bachmann 66
Thanks for that. Yeah, these are super runners which mitigates their actual weight.

Great review of a fantastic quality, reasonably priced wagon. I agree the green ones are my choice.👍
Thanks Peter.

Good point on the graffiti. Heljan did this pretty effectively on their Cargowaggons.
Does anybody know if it’s legal to run these in a rake with the HHA wagons?
Good question. I can't say I've seen any footage of them together and whether there are any technical incompatibilities. Some other viewers may know.
I'm amazed that the Hornby 92 can handle that. Very low roll resistance then. Won't heavy wagons wear down the pin-point bearings though?
