My Highlights from Hornby's 2025 Range Launch
These were the highlights for me from Hornby's 2025 Range Announcement.
I don't cover the Class 755 Flirt in this video as that was essentially a 2024 release with the addition of a new livery for 2025. I will be reviewing the 4 car version as soon it drops.

The original Class 43 HST in the iconic Yellow/Blue/Grey livery will forever have it's place in UK railway history. It's availability this year was too much to pass up and hence I took the plunge with a pre-order at a lower pricepoint than the current levels. So does this model live up to expectations and perform in line with what we have come to expect from a modern day Class 43 from Hornby. 0...

    Hi, this is a great honest review of a loco being given a second chance, I have an original Hatton’s class 66 with Legomanbiffo sound I fitted with the EM2 Bass speaker, I believe this was the factory setup and as far as I’m concerned one the best sound files I’ve heard, the bass is thunderous and I love it, I watched a video via Torrendon Rd about how to fix the axle box issues, the Accurascale model is a great refurbishment but for me the speaker down grade to a EM1 spoilt it for me, ESU have the best class 66 money can buy hands down even if it’s H0 scale, the dashboard lights up and it has a smoke generator and there are led’s mounted in the bogies that represent sparks when the brakes are applied and the flange squeal is available, the Accurascale model is a representation of what could have been, an 8ohm passive radiator speaker will do a better job than the Accurathrash speaker in my opinion, I’m a big Accurascale fan but their sound file isn’t as good as Legomanbiffo’s, I do wonder if Bachmann will ever upgrade their class 66 as it could be a great alternative but the price would be excessively high, thanks for sharing.

    I was probably the most pleased to see the Railroad Range announcements. As we're now actually seeing more cheap and cheerful models coming into the range for beginners, or those of us who just want to run trains on a budget. The price has also been a big shock, but a pleasant one. The Deltic coming in at £75 is unbelievably good, when you remember how much they've raised the prices of the Class 66, Class 37, Class 47, and the Bo-Bo's in the last couple of years. The 08 shunter at £60 is great value. And the B4 really surprised me coming in at £40, as it's marketed as a 'new tooling'. Considering they've sold cheap and mass produced 0-4-0 D Tanks, and Smokey Joe for £50 and up. The Deltic, 08, and B4 'Normandy' all went on my pre-order list. They still aren't perfect when it comes to balance on value. I can't understand how they seriously charge £80 for outdated toolings of the J83, Pug, and Jinty. Or £165 for the Terrier, when that was less than £100 just a few years ago. Especially when the P Class just got shipped out by Accurascale and came in at £100. The J15 is probably the star of the whole range though. They were great models when they first batch came out. And they still go for around £100 used online. So I'll be more than willing to pay £125 at the retailers for one, and especially in that lovely GER blue.

    The Railroad Azuma is of the same ilk as the Railroad Javelin - there is no interior detail or lights! There is no separately fitted roof detail, and the mechanism is a single power bogie in the power car. However, these deficiencies would not be noticeable from a distance, should you wish to have a second Azuma in the background! Thanks for uploading.

    The narrow gauge rail system donated by the State agency was used supply 'peat' not turf, to power station's. Those stations burned loose (semi-dried) machine harvested peat, not sod's of turf saved by hand.

      Don't get me started Martin. If the line existed today, the ability to traverse the city by rail to places like Moycullen and Oughterard would be immense. It could even have serviced students going between the main NUIGalway campus and the accommodation areas. I can accept that a full service to Clifden may be more limited off season for example but what a benefit it would be during the tourist season. Alas, the permanent way has been lost and elements of the line can never be recovered, or not at least without paying significant compensation. I'll cover a walk through the line end to end towards the summer.

    Miss one thinks early best in the whole range R30407 Great Eastern Railway - Class J15 - 564 I'M really happy to get it as one of my top two favourite trains in the UK next to T3 at Swanage. As never got a train from Honby in GER blue really hope more ERA 2 livery. As hope to get both livery of in GER grey and Blue would been great as North Noflok railway is 50 old this year. As could both livery to celebrate the railway in nice wood train boxes with a limited edition of 500 models. As by Wednesday night already sold out on Hornby's website showing people really like that train. Could do a nice of livery it has at North Norfolk railway as specials range four that railway could do them all as a limited edition of 500 models.

    Currently I have only 1 major concern .. the size of the N18s of Hornby's HM7000 decoders .. most locomotives dont offer that much room in my scale - there's a nice video out from Sam's train reviews where he tries that one in OO (76) locomotives that are about twice the size of my scale (TT 120) ... And a minor concern about their stability - after in Sam's case the decoder went up in smoke the very next day after programming and testing it for the first time

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, the Bluetooth aerial is adding to the size of the decoder over and above a standard DCC one. I have only had first hand experience of the 8-pin and 21-pin and primarily the latter. The HM7000 decoders have a lower power rating to ESU decoders so overdriving them with a low impedance speaker or overloading the motor will hit that threshold sooner than the ESU versions. I covered both the size and power issues in other videos. You have to go in understanding the limitations I guess, For some people it may not be an option. So 3 questions. 1. When will the gauge be converted to Irish Gauge? 2. When will the Irish Traction Group and West Clare Railway (Irish Gauge) be invited to bring their stock here? 3. When will NIR No. 1 be acquired for the Railway? That is a Diesel at Beavor Power Ltd on Goat Mill Road, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil. They don't use it. But they are looking for a buyer.

      Great questions but without a clear view on finances they are impossible to answer. Right now there is no major sponsor/benefactor. GoFundMe is it, coupled with rolling stock donations and sponsorship of transportation. The immediate focus is to get the attraction open on a regular basis for late spring/summer. Important from both a direct revenue perspective as well as attracting potential future grant aid and/or sponsorship. The migration to full gauge will be a big one including addressing the traction and rolling stock requirements. Right now, it's all about getting open for the summer and addressing the other immediate station work.

    Tempted by a few items. The class 800 in GWR livery my eye but does depend on what the actual spec is but so far, seems very little on detail available as to exactly what you would be getting. Maybe pre-order and if they turn out to be too basic, cancel? The Midland Pullman HST I do want. I brought a rake of the mk3s at £21 each which are excellent so it seems strange that Hornby were offloading the coaches at huge discounts and still have stock. Guess as you say Hornby may feel they have created a demand for the power cars but at £355, even discounted is just too much. The coaches don’t look bad with blue/grey power cars and not being a rivet counter, can live with that!

      On hornbys recent Q and A for the range they did mention some of the differences that the railroad 800s will have and not have. From the sounds of what was said the new 800s will NOT have: Duel bogie drive like the more premium ones, it sounds like they will just have a single bogie drive, it will also have a plastic chassis compared to the diecast chassis that the premium ones have There are no interiors in the models so that also means that there will be no interior lighting or cab lighting like there is on the premium versions. The directional lighting will be very basic white and red lights and there will be no day or night time configurations. Basically from the sounds of it it sounds like they will be very similar to the old railroad 395 javelins hornby used to do in the blue rapier train set. Finally Euvirail showed it quite well in this video but the pantograph area all the detail there is moulded instead of separately fitted, the pantograph will still be posable but all the wiring in that area is moulded.

      Thanks for taking the time to share this detail. Would expect these to sell well but seem perhaps a bit too basic for me, even at what seems a very good price. Like the old station cafe or hotel and street names I think with a railway reference ? Station road ? And a few old railway buildings ? Was this the same railway ? Hello again. I pre-ordered the GER-livered J15 for three reasons: 1) such locos used to chug through the town in which I now live on the erstwhile Waveney Valley Line until the early 1960s, 2) The loco on which this is based is in preservation about an hour away from me at the North Norfolk Railway, and 3) It's so damn pretty! And for £120-odd at the retailers, I just couldn't resist. The new Saint class was a welcome surprise. I'll keep my eye on that, and if it gets discounted, then I'll replace my ancient tender drive model. Overall, I thought it was Hornby's best announcement for years. Nice overview. I guess Hornby have realised that in the main they have to go after the entry level/ budget modeller market as that is where its at , constant calls for more affordable / robust gear & hopefully they are going to go for broke & meet the demand. Big market that they have to themselves if they do it right. Its hi end diesels have all but been rendered redundant by the new entrants & so they've got limited scope to compete. I think Hornby are edging their bets that a new class 58 is coming from one of the new entrants. Been banging on at Hornby to make a railroad version of the 800 for years, its a great unit to kick start the railroad range to be more than just old models & for people like me its perfect who on modest budgets / wont pay Marklin prices for models that are not at Marklin standards. Funny you should mention with the pendolino that a £339 model shouldnt have traction tyres, so the question is why does a 499 euro Marklin class 66 with its die cast bodyshell / chassis, so its hardly a lightweight model, all the sound /smoke etc come with traction tyres on 2 wheels of each bogie? The even more impressive ESU class 66 also pushing the 500 euro mark also comes with tyres, theyre all wheel pick up etc , its interesting the difference in approach between 00 & HO & how tyres have been frowned upon by 00 reviewers etc. The main to take from the announcements is the sheer number of units in the range, Penny starting to drop that going after the juicy low hanging fruit is a crowded affair & that getting a head start with the units is marker in the sand. The Bullied tavern coaches fit the Hornby bill of making the quirky stuff , be interesting if they go the full hog with the mock tudor pub interior of the prototypes on the model. With the 91's, strange things to release given electric locomotives are not great sellers, or that theyve got wind that a rival model may be announced & theyre getting in there first while they can.

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for that. Traction tyres on a 500 euro model is a really pushing it. It's the track hygiene aspect that's the root of my issue with them and on higher speed trains it's even worse as they deposit more residue on the track as they heat up. Better quality tyres improve the situation but don't fully alleviate it. It may be the case that HO layouts tend to incorporate more inclines and that's where they tend to be needed. I've done a number of videos removing them from models, which if you are running the flat you can usually do without any consequences, apart from your track being cleaner. Inclines, pulling a load, then you're going to start needing them on lighter models and/or sub-optimal drive systems. The Railroad 800 makes sense, making it more accessible to a broader base. I like the Bullied Tavern coaches well.

    The J15 is a gem of a loco - nearly all metal. In that GER blue livery I think it'll do well for Hornby and at about £120 in the shops it's a sensible price. All credit to Hornby for being the only manufacturer who have a lower-priced range of products. It can't be as lucrative as the high-spec high-priced model market, but it's essential for our hobby that it is accessible to modellers on a budget. Could have been a nice touch issuing a Lima Golden Series version as well with the extra buffet coach, but alas, stronger branding wins out. The Railroad 800 looks odd. The windows in the renders are conspicuously blacked out. They aren't on the Avanti 805 featured later in the video, you can clearly see the interior and even straight through the coach.
