Let me know what you think in the comments! Does staying out of the grocery store save you money? Do you spend less if you make a list and then order online? Does getting your groceries delivered actually help you stay on budget??
If I step into the store, … I’m probably spending more money. I look around for markdowns and special pricing. I’ve never had my groceries delivered or done the online order. I just don’t trust anyone to pick out the best quality produce or select bananas that are 5-6 inches long instead of 7-9” long. Or change the plan if the bananas are grass green that day. Call me crazy if you want, but I have my preferences.😉
@@cynthia57169 I've heard that complaint before and looking at the bruised sad apples I got delivered I would have to agree on this point. Maybe just not produce delivered any more...worth a thought! I do tend to spend more when I go into the store though!
Hi Jessica. I have never used grocery delivery I enjoy going to the grocery store. It’s a challenge for me to shop the sales and clearance items to make meals and keep my pantry stocked while staying in budget. I do live less than 2 miles from my main grocery store so it’s not an issue as far as gas goes. I just recently found your channel and I’ve been watching all your older videos as well. Your level of creativity with food is inspiring. Thank you.
I do enjoy the challenge of shopping the sales and staying on budget when I have the time! It's so much fun to do the $21 a Week Grocery Challenges for just that reason :D When I just have my regular household budget I notice that I'm more likely to impulse buy and go over budget though lol So glad to have you here watching and it's great to hear that you're enjoying the content! I think you must be able to put shredded wheat in the blender and make some kind of coating for chicken or fish or something. No Frills is definitely the place to get cereal - they seemed super cheap this week.
Shredded wheat.. when I was a kid, my Dad used to dip the shredded wheat with milk, then fry in a cast-iron on both sides until crispy. Drizzle with maple syrup.
Okay, now we’re talking! Thank you for sharing! I’m definitely going to have to check that out…how could that be bad…crispy, fried, with maple syrup YUM!
You can portion out the several tbsps required for yogurt making into a tiny sized container, seal well, wrap, label, date, then FREEZE to preserve the yogurt when ready to make yogurt. Yep, I've successfully done this many, many times. 😊
I think it depends mostly on the price of gas in your area. I’ve found eggs were cheaper online. If you have a delivery membership. The only downside is that you can’t see if you can get clearance options on meats & other products also possible damaging or getting part of your order wrong too.
Yes, gas is pretty pricey unfortunately and I've been using my points to pay the $4.95 delivery fee lately so that a bonus. I agree, I miss checking out the clearance racks and I am really unhappy with the apples we got. I wouldn't have picked them looking like that and if they were all the same I would have made a different choice :( There are definitely downsides to delivery...
Spice whole wheat squash muffins or bread. I could eat it every day. Throw in some applesauce to replace an egg, magic. Or if you're heavy on eggs, try it as a spuced squash soufflé. So good. Thanks for all your content!
Oh Jessica, you missed the sale on the hamburger. I got the same hamburger last week for half that price at Save On. I have taken over the grocery shopping from my husband this past month. My son and I make a list and thought we kept it in budget but when we looked at the bill when hubby got home it was more than the budget and we didn't get everything on our list. Now we do the same thing but actually have a dinner plan in place as well and we have been consistantly under budget by at least $30 per week. We shop the sales for Safeway and Save On which are across the road from each other.
Yes...unfortunately I missed it. I thought I was going to make it in to Costco so I didn't bother with it and then I regretted it later :( When the kids were still at home I would do bi weekly meal plans and enjoyed it quite a bit. The kids wouldn't have to ask me what was for dinner lol Good for you for coming under budget! Kudos! :D
Popping into the comments 2 hours before the premiere to say this is exactly a question I've been wondering. Sometimes I can't get sales prices with delivery, but I still wonder if I'm saving money because I'm not picking up impulse items.
Right? I do spend around $10-$15 in gas just to go to town and drive around to get groceries! I think that at least adding $10 to the bill might cover any savings I might get? If I'm going in to town anyway then hitting all the sales makes more sense maybe but a special trip is costly. I've been using my points to pay for delivery (geez...I didn't mention that in the video! lol) so it makes it even more cost effective! I definitely save money without those impulse buys!
Bummer on those accidental purchases, I think that is why I have always been been afraid of using delivery. I was curious what you could do with the Shredded Wheat and just googled it, turns out you can use it in lots of baking recipes to up the healthiness, like in quick breads and bar cookies, maybe make a "pumpkin" bead using some of the frozen pureed squash (it's the same as pumpkin) your wheat flour and crush some shredded wheat biscuits into it?
Ya delivery can have some downsides unfortunately :( I googled it too and there are some interesting Shredded wheat recipes! I'll have to try some out or, ya, it's just whole wheat right? lol
Ya, I missed that sale because I was planning on heading into Costco but I just haven't made it and I was getting impatient with no ground beef lol Best laid plans and all that... :P
I definitely feel I would spend less by grocery shopping. I went into Costco yesterday for money saving bulk mouthwash and came out with a tv and coffee pods…
Ohhh lol That's what everyone's cart looks like coming out of Costco! You go in for one thing and come out with a mountain of unrelated things... You must be disciplined like Yoda in Costco :P
I just spent $200 on chicken breast that I got on sale and another $60 on beef roasts. Then hubby found quick stuffer meals for $2 and under. We don’t eat much of those but it’s almost planting time and they will be appreciated then. I shop sales and just try to keep things full. I’m increasing my garden this year. Let’s hope with full freezers and full canning jars and a full pantry I won’t need to spend much this year. I live out too far in the country for delivery of any kind. I spend less money when I shop without husband. When I need to spend as little as possible, I shop when he’s at work. 🩷💙💚🧡❤️🦋🦋🦋
Those are some bulk buys! It's great to do that when you can. I'm really trying to use up some meat and resist buying easy meats so I can get to the bottom of some things in the freezer. We're actually shrinking the garden a bit this year but trying to focus on things that grow and store well and I'm planning on doing better with my canning this year. Yes! Always leave the husband at home and never send him alone to do the shopping! HaHa I do appreciate Mr. Wander's help when I need it though
Ohh maybe! But then I'd have to drive into town and lose my savings on gas from the delivery? Someone in the chat suggested that I might be able to use the Shredded Wheat as a breading/coating which I think I might try and figure out ;)
Never a silly question! Paneer is a very mild softer cheese that tastes a lot like cottage cheese. I love it because it doesn’t melt so I fry it, brown it and throw it in curries or soups. It’s also pretty high in protein 👍🏻🙂 Halloumi cheese is also good, with more “feta-like” taste…more salty, it’s also kind of rubbery. The tastes aren’t that different than mozzarella or feta cheese if you want to try them! Sometimes they really go on sale and are a great meat alternative if you like cheese like me!😆 🧀

This is great advice. I was actually wondering if the yogurt could be frozen and successfully used for a starter later.
Hey! Just found a delicious and easy yogurt making method so it’s great to learn how to store starter. Thank you
So, lost in the freezer and has to buy more starter yogurt....

Then ages later...what's this? Oh!! The yogurt!!
