Oh wow I had the placement of the "1" wrong all these years! I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought it was on the "E" either, though!
I know where Chick says beat one is...but for the life of me I can't hear it that way; nor do I think he plays it that way. For me, notating it so that the RH melody notes are anticipations, represents more accurately the way he performs it.
Actually, the emphasis switches on the Light As A Feather version.
