The Butterfly tax is real, but more palatable with your explanation. It really is remarkable that they’ve been able to retain a full US made product line.
I totally agree I have got one Street from the company I really like it when you can't get one anymore this knife on the secondary market it's gonna be colossal I knew that from the start that's why I jumped in and got one it is going to be sought after excellent knife it's just a collectors piece for me a very pleased to own one
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! I really dig the knife as an EDC, plain and simple it’s expensive, but it’s not the limited edition bailout they just released kind of overpriced!
Hey, I am an American. I have a high cost in living. I need money in my wallet too. But I'm supposed to pay $550+ for a knife that would have cost only $300 a few short years ago IF the Chinese weren't selling every $300 to $400 knife they can produce? Naaaaw....I don't buy those high end Chinese knives and I'm not going to buy an overpriced US produced Benchmade who jacked their prices just to be more expensive than imports. I'll pass.
I’ll get one at some point. I do think it’s way overpriced but im hoping for a good Black Friday sale later this year that may make it more attractive to me. I don’t even need 60% off. Id be happy at $400ish.
I am so intrigued by this knife and how thin it is, but not at full price. Are you one of those bros that got and used the 60% Base Camp discount code? If so, lucky you!
Thanks for watching, I live in the area of the Benchmade factory. I had a few friends and family coupons from an employee, they only work in person at the factory store. I am very fortunate to have that ability.
If the video you watched was from “cutting board reviews” he actually commented on this video and here was my response: “Thanks for watching and the comment! The chipping you experienced isn’t really that surprising to me for a few reasons. First, M390 is not an especially tough steel composition it is exceptionally corrosion resistant with decent edge retention (this is what makes Magnacut so special btw). Second, it’s not uncommon for factory edges to be more brittle than the 2nd edge, sharpening on industrial grinders can compromise the heat treat on the edge. Never judge a steel by the factory edge. Last, an ultra steep angle is chosen for cutting performance not durability if you intend to chop through thick materials even plastic like a toothbrush I’d opt for a 20 degree sharpening or choose a tougher steel like M4. Just my 2 nickels (adjusted for inflation)”
@@olbubs Even so though a brand new knife that chips with light use is questionable. I own other BM knives and none of them have shown wear and tears after years. There should be no excuse after 1 day of light use.
@@DavidtheFoodie I think your point is valid, but I just don’t view chopping the handle off a toothbrush as a task for a steep angle on M390. If you watch his next video it performs great (same knife) batoning through oak. It’s unfortunate but I just didn’t see it as an indication of a problem with the model. If mine chips it may change my stance on it, but for now I see it as one instance of an unfortunate outcome.
I live in a country where the monthly salary is 600 dollars and again I think that this knife is worth that money. The production of this knife is 3 times more demanding than the production of a CR sebanza, and now that I have heard how this company pays its workers, I am even more convinced that this knife is worth every dollar.
Fantastic breakdown of one of the many examples of hypocrisy in the internet knife community. Well said. I've had an Anthem for a few years now, but I just got a 928 and 761 fairly recently. Some of my most wanted "collection" knives are older Benchmades so I've been on a bit of a Benchmade kick lately. Handle thickness may be the most important dimension to me, at least when it comes to the knives I actually use. I can barely tell the difference between a thick and thin handle in pocket, but I can _definitely_ tell the difference in hand. Because of that, this is pretty much the exact opposite of what I want in a knife, but that spring is really intriguing. My only real complaint about my Anthem is the soft detent, and a torsion spring could certainly provide a much crisper detent. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer the even (but lighter) pressure of the coil spring crossbar lock to the uneven/biased tension of the omega springs, but it sounds like this could be the best of both worlds. Always good to see innovation, even if it's in a model I'm not interested in. Looking forward to hearing more after you get some use with it.
Your collection has to be just absolutely legendary!!! I hope the day comes where my channel can support meeting up with folks to feature their collections even when not geographically convenient! This one is definitely a niche knife, but I’m digging it. The detent is a little softer than my personal preference, but I prefer a really stiff spring. I wouldn’t call it ergonomic, but it’s pretty impressive the level it disappears in pocket. I spend a good chunk of time on the floor chasing around little ones so it’s nice to have one that doesn’t jab into my leg!
@@olbubs I definitely wouldn't call it legendary, but it makes me happy. I'm eventually gonna do a collection video, at least I keep telling myself I am. I have a small handful of knives that aren't really on YT at all, so even if I don't actually get around to making a full collection video I'm definitely gonna show those at least. I totally get the appeal of the thin in pocket knives, but personally after about 5 minutes of being in my pocket I cant even tell the difference between my Bailout and full ti xm24
Fatigue about benchmade prices...please. You didn't buy one at full price! You got more than half off! 95% of the people youre advertising for will not receive the same value. You're a small channel still. I hope you give more genuine advice in the future.
Hey Phiz, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I’ve purchased many knives and many Benchmade knives at full price for this channel. To be clear, I have absolutely no issue with people choosing to not buy something they deem too expensive. My broader point and fatigue I mentioned is about knife price outrage whenever something new comes out. I get it, we all want things to be less expensive, so do I. I certainly cannot afford every knife that I’d like to buy and every knife I’d like to feature on the channel. It just seems like folks take it as a personal insult that a product is priced the way that it is. My perspective on the quality and performance of this knife are extremely genuine, I’ll continue to give honest feedback and not pander to any specific group.
This knife is a joke, with its terrible handle and offensive price. Benchmade must be joking. I prefer to get one Spyderco and one ZT with that money. BTW, thanks for your video.
@@olbubs Nice! I didn't like the handle, I thought it was too thin. Good to carry in your pocket, but I found it bad to wield. Again, thanks for your video.
This one is just a bit too expensive for me. At this price, you can get a Herman or many others. That being said, I picked up the benchmade special edition bailout, which was also pricey. However, with the washers, the action is horrible compared to even the much cheaper Deka I have.
Too bad to hear about your Bailout! I’ve had almost entirely positive experiences with Benchmade washer pivots. I’d encourage you to send it in to be worked on. You shouldn’t have to but at the same time I’m sure they’ll fix it up and the action will be great.
Give it a bit of time to break in. My m4 bailout feels like it has zero friction whatsoever when the bar is pulled back. No play in the pivot at all. I polished the washers, but that didn't really do anything. I carried and used it for a few weeks and that made a world of difference.
The fact is the materials they are using are not at all justifying the price. From the hardware to the knife steel. It is NOT full titanium as you stated. Nor is it premium. The review is incomplete and poorly done. It's a gimmick, plain and simple.
Hey SA, Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I truly like the knife and offered my honest thoughts on something that I purchased myself. You are welcome to have a different opinion. Take care!
Thanks for watching! It really just depends on if price ultimately determines what you are willing to carry. I also carry a Sebenza which was more expensive. In many ways as long as the knife is designed well to be used and carried, I’m even more compelled to carry it with a high price tag to get usage out of it. Thanks for watching!
The Butterfly tax is real, but more palatable with your explanation. It really is remarkable that they’ve been able to retain a full US made product line.

Would you recommend this knife for cutting spaghetti noodles for littles?
Highly recommend
if it weighed 4oz and cost max $300 i'd be interested -- if it didn't have springs and was made by spyderco 😂
