I’m always hearing about omega springs failing on people, and it really surprises me. I’ve had my old Griptilian for probably 7 years now, and I use it A LOT! I religiously carry it every day. I’ve taken it everywhere, including out to sea, cutting bait with it and what not. Everything is still original. Never had a failed spring. Never a speck of rust. What I’m starting to believe is people experience failed springs because they’re fidgeting and playing with their knives more than anything. Metal fatigues over time with hard use. Which still amazes me. I mean, how much are people unnecessarily flicking their knives in and out for that to happen? My knife is a tool, not a toy. And I’ve even had my fair share of fidgeting with it. It’s still going strong. Other than cosmetic wear (which is surprisingly minimal) and evidence of sharpening and stropping, it still pretty much works the way it did when I bought it. Over the years, I’ve only taken it apart one single time to clean the lint out of it and give it a little oil. That’s it!
@@staffordsedc Hard to beat the Grips, man. I almost pulled the trigger on a customized Bugout (came across your vid while researching that knife). Still decided to get a customized Grip instead. Been wanting to treat myself to an upgraded version of the knife I already love. But the Bugout was a close second. Might still get one at some point.
@@calvinwon5113 I think it’s worth trying out! Getting a stock, used bugout is easily under $100 so it’s not a major investment luckily and can be modded in all kinds of ways!
I just got the Bugout with the aluminum handle and the M390 blade. Its almost the perfect edc knife for me. Light sturdy and after I put a nice 18 degree bevel on the edge its pretty sweet. I got it sharp enough to easily shave facial hair. That M390 is fun with a polished edge.
Mines' still stock and blue/satin...it shocked me. It took just 1 full day of morning workout shorts, dress slacks, and PJ's to replace my beloved 940. I'd have bet money against that...but my 940 will get carried again when I send my Bugout back for spa service. I appreciate your review. Thanks.
Very nice review cool to see a long term review not many do that I still have to get a bugout been after one for a long time some day another great video keep it up
Jeremy Spaulding thank you! It’s an excellent knife for sure! New video on the bugout is uploading now, a very quick video showing off some new scales!
Not directly, more so the way the axis lock is handled during a quick closing/opening action. Operating the lock puts the spring under the most tension and the knife being in the open position is when the spring is most relaxed, the quick compression then release of the spring when flicking closed over and over is the stress that would likely cause a break.
You’re moving to an auto which utilizes a coil spring for its deployment so you’re not escaping springs entirely. That being said autos like the Boker Kalashnikov use the same spring and run in just about any condition. Different knives with different deployments and locks but a solid choice I’m sure!
Thanx for the good review I totally agree with everything you said.... where did you get the stronger omega springs? Cause mine died after only three weeks👎 that’s my only complaint about this knife
If you put the original parts back on you can still use warranty service, just don’t tell them! Lol, I swapped scales back when my springs broke and had no issues thankfully
I always wanted a Bugout but that Axis lock turns me off. I just don’t like the idea of a single weak spring being the only thing that keeps my action going.
If you buy the knife for being a pocket jewlery you can get one better looking for the half price. If you are getting one to have the job done Benchmade bugout earns every penny you have payed for it

That is a great story attached to a great knife! I think you hit the nail on the head with the fidgeting, it definitely plays a big part!

Thanks for the kind words! And I understand completely, you really feel how little you feel it, if that makes sense lol

Jeremy Spaulding PS go check BigRedEDC’s last upload 😁
Great review, really enjoy this knife.
Thanks for the kind words! Still a mainstay in my collection 😄
That's a cool mat
Thanks! It’s from Knafs Co, run by Ben Pederson, formerly of BladeHQ!
Is it the -Slamming it shut, does that put the most pressure on the spring?

Great content!
Thank you very much!
U think buying the 9400 would be better because theres no omega springs? Im getting tired of having to send the bugout in for repairs

@@staffordsedc yeah i figure theyre a much large spring so more durable and less likely to break. Thanks for the response
What's that nice knife mat you got called?
It’s from knafs.com and is their oversized mouse pad
@@staffordsedc Thanks! Nice brand :)

brandon lavigne thank you! I got mine off of Ebay, 2 sets for $12 with free shipping!
@@staffordsedc oh ok thank you i appreciate that
I had to get some also for my 940 they do seem stronger..someplace outta Texas
I heard replacing them yourself voids the warranty which sucks.

That's awesome ive been wondering about that myself

It will field dress a deer
Benchmades way overpriced
They’ve definitely priced out a lot of folks in the last year or two
