The oils weight isn't necessarily what makes it float on water, it's the mass and density. Water is more dense than oil funnily enough and that means it sits underneath oil. I think what you mean is, if you get a really high density oil, can you float on top?

there is some older inks that use iron shavings as an ingredient, most modern ink is a petrol (plastic) product which give a metallic hue.
