    Not one of my most exciting videos I'm afraid. But couldn't turn down the opportunity to ride one of my all time favorite bikes, the Yamaha VMAX.
    1700cc V4 motor, gear and chain driven cams, ride by wire throttle, slipper clutch, covered in lots of carbon fibre.
    166nm of torque, 200bhp and 310 kgs!
    Didn't have the opportunity to really test the performance of this thing and probably never will, but it was still an absolute privilege to ride one.
    I am not a journalist or pro racer and have no authority in riding and testing bikes. Please don't expect a fully comprehensive road test!
    Big thanks to Yamaha for lending it to me.

    I went from a 2005 Hayabusa to an 09 VMax. The Narrator was right..I'm a person that didn't want a cruiser but wanted a little comfort. This VMax gets terrible mileage, has a tiny gas tank, doesn't fit in with sport bike or cruiser crowds, and makes no practical sense at all. But I f'n love it. Busa was quicker, at least above 100, but the position on this VMax makes you pucker more when you are wide open. You only live once, may as well have fun. I ride for fun and this bike has that in spades.

      TusPapi I got a ZX14 always wanted a VMAX,even when I purchased my 1985 FZ 750 I was thinking about one back then. Love to take one for a ride before putting down 20k

    Great review and so right about the nimbleness of the bikes handing. I've just bought a low mileage 2015 model. I think this is the best bike I have owned to date. It really is incredibly easy to ride, very stable and goes around corners with ease. The balance is superb and you can even ride in town traffic at a slow walking pace with your feet on the pegs. I take mine out on bumpy, twisty Kent country roads and it handles them with ease. The only time you notice the weight is when wheeling it out of the garage! I think they have stopped making them, so if you can afford it then get one while you have the chance!

    I own a 2013 Vmax and i love it. Coming from sport bikes there was some issues of handling, nothing a few rides and some suspension adjustments didn't cure. I do find it hard to
    get used to the fuel consumption and small gas tank. I find it hard to not use its power every time i ride. when riding hard gas does not last long and there is only one way to ride it.

      Hey Ronald Rought I test rode the new VMax about a week ago...... I traded in my Ultra Classic on the 31st for a 2015.... Very Happy.... Cheers

      UnEasy Rider You're lucky Yamaha let you test ride it. They don't usually have one for demo. Enjoy!

    I own a '93 and now I've added a '16. A programmer allows full power at all rpm. The huge rear tire makes the bike a bit harder to lean over, it wants to stand up mid corner if you aren't counter steering pretty hard. But 200hp is a thrill every time you wind it open, leaving 50' long stripes.

    Great review. I had a gen 1 Vmax and I completely know what your talking about when you were talking about the "passion" of it. I traded it off for a brand new gsxr 1K and was actually disappointed with my decision to trade it off until I did some track days. I loved my Vmax and down the road I would love to own another one.

      Thanks. It's a shame I didn't get to spend any quality time on it and really open it up. Even at slow speed though it made a big impression!

    Best VMax review EVER!
    A real ride with you describing the feeling I get every time I throw a leg over mine. :)

      Thanks. Glad you liked it. It's just a shame I didn't get a chance to really open her up! I'm very jealous of any Vmax owner. Never ridden anything else that comes close in terms of how it makes you feel when ridding it. That engine is a masterpiece!

    I used to own one of the early model V max which I modified with R1 brakes, progressive springs, wider wheels etc and would be interested in how the bike handles compared to the older version, more so its performance, I loved the V max and only sold it due to it being left out in the British weather by the previous owner for to long uncovered which was causing electrical problems later on, now I ride a Yamaha Wildstar and a Harley around the island of Cyprus, so the cold damp weather is no longer a problem.

    I've been thinking about getting one of these as a second bike, but I've heard a lot of people complaining about the mileage. How miles miles do you average per tank on this bike? It's the one thing that is making me have my doubts. I love the looks and the power, but I don't want to be pulling into every gas station I come up to.

  • @aydinvideo
    @aydinvideo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's one of the sickest bikes ever made. I have a heavily modded' Gen1 Vmax- and it's as fast as my 2008 R1. This new one however is fucking beastly! I LOVE carbon fiber, my ducati 916 is all CF'd out and looks amazing, my vmax however isn't modern enough for the CF treatment. Did your max come that way or did you add the carbon? is it REAL CF, or just "simulated carbon"? Either way, fucking badass.

    @ 5:50 you said "its definitely not a cruiser or a sportbike, but somewhere in the middle".. Starting with the Gen 1 and now the Gen 2, the mighty Vmax has earned its own category: A MuscleBike! Basically the two wheeled equivalent of an LS6 Chevelle. Nice video btw.

    Mine also is carbon fiber

    sooooo if you had to choose....vmax or diavel???

    • @blamestormer9941
      @blamestormer9941 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My buddy has a diavel, wants to sell it now at 18k km (roughly 12k mls) because a costy service is showing up soon.
      I did 16k km (10k mls) in my first year with the VMax.
      Diavel is not a cruiser at all, needs quite high revs.
      It is always VMax. Even the old 1200 is better than the Diavel. And that old one came out 35 years ago.

    was there any point in the video where you got to rip it up? m8, i think with hindsight you should have blown off the pack and just hit the zoom button

    • @benniehitchcock
      @benniehitchcock  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a police escort, so couldn't rip it. Was doing about 70 in a 50 zone with a copper behind me, didn't want to push my luck any further than that.

    • @thepoultrypeople
      @thepoultrypeople 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ok, why the police escort?thanks for uploading btw, it is appreciated even though the zoom button wasnt molestated

    • @benniehitchcock
      @benniehitchcock  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      thepoultrypeople It was a Yamaha training day at Silverstone that I was sent on. We did some road tests in groups of 10, so the police were there to escort us and make sure we didn't rip it through the villages! I managed to worm my way to the front of the group so I could at least get a few little rips in there. Shame I never had the chance to properly spank it.

    Any vibration in the handle bars? Hands go numb? Thanks for the review...

    • @benniehitchcock
      @benniehitchcock  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very little vibration overall which is surprising considering the size of the engine. Definitely not as smooth as an inline 4 sports tourer, but a lot smoother than your average vtwin cruiser.

    • @JenniferSmith-yl6lr

      Gen2 VMax is limited to 220 kph

    • @blamestormer9941
      @blamestormer9941 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If ECU is flashed it goes close to 300 kph.
      But 1. it is not legal and 2. 220 kph (233 on the speedo) is fast enough on a naked bike.

    • @benniehitchcock
      @benniehitchcock  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only rode it for about 30 mins, so I couldn't really tell you. I can't imagine you'll get much more than about 35-40mpg. Probably about 20 mpg if you ride hard.

    • @brandonbowerstx
      @brandonbowerstx 8 ปีที่แล้ว
