Then I bought a new 1993 Harley-Davidson Softail Custom and a friend talked me into selling the Vmax to him wish I would have kept it, he sold it later on. I still have the Softail and I bought a new 2016 Harley-Davidson Limited. I wished that Vmax would have had forward controls and a longer swing arm and a chain for the final drive. It was bad ass!

Nope, the official record for stock bikes is held by a 2006 GSX-R1000 at 2.35sec. The VMAX 1700 is third fastest at 2.5sec. 400m (1/4 mile) is 10.1sec for the VMAX.
racing a diavel on a track is silly too. if i ever bought either of these two bikes it would be for sport touring. i personally like the diavel for its looks. the vmax is ok but i don't like the proportions. it looks like they were trying too hard to give it the muscular look whereas the ducati looks naturally beefy. some people don't agree with me and that's fine.
Drag racing is a science.. and that was about as scientific as a cricket bat... launch the V-Max in second @ 5k rpm, and if it hooks up, it'll run high 9's... Ducati for posing and looking cool.. V-Max for business..

Rode off on my 2020 Tuesday from Orlando the N.W.Ar. over 1,300 miles now on it and did the 1st service at 400 miles. I love it when it comes to needing to pass. Fuel mileage sucks lol but with 200 hp it’s totally worth it. Take care I hope you and yours well.
Well a good 1985 vmax had 145 hp did the quater mile in 10.80. This vmax has 190 hp, and stock seen them in the 9's. Weight has nothing to do with it. Power to weight ratio does. The Duc is simply under powered. In that race the Duc got off the line good. The vmax layed rubber out of the hole and still won. People can say what they want about the vmax, but from its inception its always been a straight line BEAST.
Two of my dream bikes together in one video..... I actually thought the Diavel would take the max, though to be fair, it was close enough to depend on driver skill. Whats more impressive to me is that these things still ran 10's on what looks to me like regular asphalt on stock tires.
If I’m into going straight, vmax. If I like my turns and hooligan runs, diavel all day. I’ll give up an entire second just to have the handling of the diavel. End of the day, two sick bikes.
It has been proven that the Ducati Diavel has better handling than the Yamaha VMAX. so with better handling a little less horsepower is nothing. The quarter mile time is very minimal. just a tiny bit less horsepower can be made up with better cornering skills. the Diablo has awesome handling for a 532 pound sport cruiser it also gets better gas mileage. All this for a whopping $2,985 less than the Vmax. It also has more comfortable eurgos and 3 electronic drive modes. meaning you can slow down and cruise Main Street to give everybody a better look. Also it sounds meaner. It has been rated the all around better machine. yes the Vmax is more powerful but its like driving a submarine through the turns. I'll take the Ducati. that's why I Drive Ducatis. I've had dozens of Japanese built bikes and I love them also. the other guys may have a little bit more horse power. which they have a ( little) bit more horsepower. Ducatis have the best handling on the market. Which is why they have the most World Superbike champion ships out of everybody combined. they make an amazing toy
Honestly the output for a stock V-Max is over 200 horsepower! Not sure about the Ducati but the V-Max Has always been a beast on the streets! I want 1... Of each!

Owned both. Both are great bikes...I don't know why ppl have to bash one bike to give a thumbs up on the other one! In a straight line the Vmax is a monster but in the mountains and twisties, the Diavel leaves the Vmax for dead. In a straight line race for my life, I 'll go with mad max, in a race with curves and turns..Diave l all day. The only way to be truly satisfied is to own both. The Triumph Rocket 3 is an honorable mention. Drag race: Vmax All out race: Diavel.
Great analysis, have never owned or ridden either but I know from past history a lot of test riders of motorcycle magazines crashed the V Max when pushing it through the twisty's. Both lovely bikes, I Envy you buddy ride safe ❤

The Yamaha spun tire for a LOOOONG time. If he had a good lock up I'm sure it would be a larger margin. Also, the Ducati twins arn't suped up Harely evo motors! they produce a lot of power.
Harley-Davidson's are one of the most reliable bikes on the road now since 1985 when Harley bought the company back from AMF. Do you need to do your research I bet you don't even ride a motorcycle .

Honestly, comparing that launch of the Vmax to the others in the warm ups, it was by far the worst. The Vmax spun quite a bit making it a closer race then it should have been. I do like the Ducati, they're both awesome bikes by any standard!
No way the 700lb Yammie could stay with the Ducati in the twisties though. Took an hour long test ride on the Diavel and the handling is incredible. Handles almost as good as any street fighter on the market. Except for maybe the Aprilla Tuono V4. Just my opinion.
@@hebeb394 They are both close to 20 grand and i'd bet the potential buyer of either bases the decision on a number of factors like weight, handling,hp , service costs and brand cache as much or more than they agonize over a $1,200 price difference on what certainly is a $20,000 bike after tax and reg.
AMS Ducati Dallas raced a stock Diavel with the addition of a full Termignoni exhaust and ran a 9.980 at the Texas Motorplex during the month of June 2012.

The Vmax is a four cylinder, the Diavel is a twin. I don't think the Diavel did that bad considering. If it were a V4 Ducati motor.. The Vmax would be left behind in a drag race like the Yamaha Moto Gp bikes get routinely left behind on the straights to the Desmosedici in Moto gp! I love the Vmax had a Gen 1. I rode the Gen2 but ultimately went with the Diavel cause it handles considerably better. I don't just like straights, I like corners too.

That's because it's very torquey and does not have traction control neither. Also if the rear tire is not warmed up correctly, it will make that wheelspin for quite a while, but still is faster than the Diavel.
I used to run 1/4 and 1/8 mile drag racing, it takes a lot of runs to get used to a bike and then post an enviable time like these. Ignore the punters, they know nothing. Thx for the time and effort made in making the video and sharing it. Having seen both bikes in the flesh I'd buy the Ducati. 1. it's a Ducati. 2. It's cheaper than the Yamaha. 3. I can't understand the incredible price increase on the Yamaha when the original was so competitively priced and prettier never mind the Ducati.
Diavel is classified as a power cruiser. It is used as a touring bike when you get the touring gear. It is a renegade touring cruiser according to Ducati.
It surprised me when it lit up on the Vmax side. It looks to be ahead the whole race including the end. But there so close in performance it comes down to the riders.

Have a 2010 Vmax,one awesome bike have had no one able to run with me! By the way I have been riding since I was 14 and I'am now 62 have had many bikes over the years and have to say the Vmax is one of the very best!!
ONE race, that's it??? I've seen the VMAX do better than 10.9. And it seems these bikes are close enough that the rider start off the line would be critical. So there should be multiple races (with multiple riders), not just one...
I own a 2020 Ducati Diavel, and a 2020 registered zx10rr winter edition, wonder which would win, the Ninja goes 170kph 1st, 205 2nd the Diavel 160 2nd, about 205 4th, Ninja 300+ kph 6th, imagine Diavel 260kph in 6th, could be fun. Any buyers for the ZX10rr, never raced, 5700 km. only one remaining in NZ. Has been my commuter.

In the clip, The Duc left on the VMAX by a bus length. And the Duc got to the finish line first. The VMAX ran a faster ET. But he got left on by a mile. Neither rider is a drag racer. Very obvious. All that said. On any street or any drag strip with competent riders. The VMAX will eat the Duc and spit out the bones.
Sure, now let’s do the same race at an actual track. Those of you who have ever drag raced, know… the Vmax should have never won that race… with that horrid start. The fact that is was able to just brutally accelerate through for win, is nothing short of amazing. And I’ll add… the Vmax is severely restricted in several gears… so much so, that a simple tune and exhaust can yield over 100 hp at certain points in the curve. Stop and consider the implications there for a moment.
The Diavel is bad ass but the newest version of the vmax! For a stock bike that is one scary monster! I was lucky enough to ride a buds of mine..the torque and pull is insane!

When cycle world tested the V Max they said you will have a pile of worn out tires in the back yard it is a beast .

I've owned 2 Vmaxs, and currently own a Diavel. The Diavel is the far superior machine.
Once you hit the twisties, the Diavel morphs into a sportbike. Phenomenal handling. Great bikes both.

@@hebeb394 They are both close to 20 grand and i'd bet the potential buyer of either bases the decision on a number of factors like weight, handling,hp , service costs and brand cache as much or more than they agonize over a $1,200 price difference on what certainly is a $20,000 bike after tax and reg.

AMS Ducati Dallas raced a stock Diavel with the addition of a full Termignoni exhaust and ran a 9.980 at the Texas Motorplex during the month of June 2012.
Those bikes were amazing. The acceleration was brutal, talk about an arm straightener. I love those bikes.
@AldoBallerini.....and in your video, none of that is mentioned. You show 2 minutes of goofing off, stalls, bad launches and no names or credit or any other info. To the casual observer, such as myself, my initial impression is how you are making it look. As a "journalist" I would think you would understand that.
The vmax with stock pipes sounds like a scooter. The vmax with aftermarket pipes is the meanest sounding thing on earth!
Yamaha VMax will outlast any Ducati!
The Vmax is a four cylinder, the Diavel is a twin. I don't think the Diavel did that bad considering. If it were a V4 Ducati motor.. The Vmax would be left behind in a drag race like the Yamaha Moto Gp bikes get routinely left behind on the straights to the Desmosedici in Moto gp! I love the Vmax had a Gen 1. I rode the Gen2 but ultimately went with the Diavel cause it handles considerably better. I don't just like straights, I like corners too.
The Yamaha weights more than 100kg more than the Diavel. The fact that it still beat that thing is testament to how quick it is.

That's because it's very torquey and does not have traction control neither. Also if the rear tire is not warmed up correctly, it will make that wheelspin for quite a while, but still is faster than the Diavel.
I used to run 1/4 and 1/8 mile drag racing, it takes a lot of runs to get used to a bike and then post an enviable time like these. Ignore the punters, they know nothing. Thx for the time and effort made in making the video and sharing it. Having seen both bikes in the flesh I'd buy the Ducati. 1. it's a Ducati. 2. It's cheaper than the Yamaha. 3. I can't understand the incredible price increase on the Yamaha when the original was so competitively priced and prettier never mind the Ducati.

The Diavel is a sport bike. The V-Max is a sport cruiser. I prefer my Triumph Rocket but that V-Max is one badass bike.

Diavel is classified as a power cruiser. It is used as a touring bike when you get the touring gear. It is a renegade touring cruiser according to Ducati.
It surprised me when it lit up on the Vmax side. It looks to be ahead the whole race including the end. But there so close in performance it comes down to the riders.

Practically the same performance but the Diavel looks so much better and will probably handle much better too.

Speedytrip these dudes sucked the vmax 1700 is capable of hitting 9s and smoked the tire a 1/4 of the way through the race it would have done a much better time with a better rider

Yes, it appears the ducati rider is ahead, but that doesn't mean he had a better Elapsed Time or MPH> The clock starts independently for both riders once they break the beam. Theorotically, one could sit at the starting line with the tree green for 10 seconds while the other guy has already crossed the finish line, then launch and run a better Elapsed time and Mph! He'd has a sucky reaction time of ten seconds, but still be faster!

Have a 2010 Vmax,one awesome bike have had no one able to run with me! By the way I have been riding since I was 14 and I'am now 62 have had many bikes over the years and have to say the Vmax is one of the very best!!
ONE race, that's it??? I've seen the VMAX do better than 10.9. And it seems these bikes are close enough that the rider start off the line would be critical. So there should be multiple races (with multiple riders), not just one...

I own a 2020 Ducati Diavel, and a 2020 registered zx10rr winter edition, wonder which would win, the Ninja goes 170kph 1st, 205 2nd the Diavel 160 2nd, about 205 4th, Ninja 300+ kph 6th, imagine Diavel 260kph in 6th, could be fun.
Any buyers for the ZX10rr, never raced, 5700 km. only one remaining in NZ. Has been my commuter.
All you guys talking about the Yamaha barely winning, you fail to realize that the VMAX is a CRUISER bike made to be fast .. Ducati is Made specifically a street race bike. A v-twin winning against a Ducati and can crush it?? Yeah. A cruiser? Hail to the max!! The same hp 2 stroke cant compare to the vmax

I love all these straight line dummies knocking the Diavel when real racing is done on the track with....you know....curves. Plus the difference isn’t even worth bragging about, which makes me question the intellect of the VMAX crowd...Stick to your streetlights and impound lots. Leave real racing to those who know where it belongs, on a track. Plus VMAX is now discontinued lol, the only thing reliable about the VMAX is it’s not made anymore lol.

In the clip, The Duc left on the VMAX by a bus length. And the Duc got to the finish line first. The VMAX ran a faster ET. But he got left on by a mile. Neither rider is a drag racer. Very obvious. All that said. On any street or any drag strip with competent riders. The VMAX will eat the Duc and spit out the bones.
Sure, now let’s do the same race at an actual track. Those of you who have ever drag raced, know… the Vmax should have never won that race… with that horrid start. The fact that is was able to just brutally accelerate through for win, is nothing short of amazing. And I’ll add… the Vmax is severely restricted in several gears… so much so, that a simple tune and exhaust can yield over 100 hp at certain points in the curve. Stop and consider the implications there for a moment.
Yamaha weigth is 325 kg; Ducati 210. Do you think this could be important in acceleration?

The Diavel is bad ass but the newest version of the vmax! For a stock bike that is one scary monster! I was lucky enough to ride a buds of mine..the torque and pull is insane!
