Reading Notes Trombone

This video helps beginning trombone players to learn how to read their notes and be able to play them on the trombone by breaking the song down into smaller sections. Using the 3 step process, students learn how to read their first 5 notes.

I had something of a problem sight reading where trombone was concerned;I learned bass clef when I switched from cornet to Eb tuba,but there was no problem as the relationship to the fingering to the note was the same-Eb open valve was the same as C on cornet.Change the clef from treble clef to bass clef,add three flats and the fingerings were the same.What threw me was where to start on the staff on slide trombone.Had I started on Bb,second line,I'd have been fine.Mind you,I was a self taught player.I had no one to teach me.No books,no teacher.Just a couple of old Jack Teagarden 78s and my ear.It wasn't until about forty years later I had someone who taught me how to read.I can imagine how Bill Harris felt:he was let go from Gene Krupa's band in 1938 because of poor reading.He didn't get a handle on it until he joined Woody Herman in 1945.

there's a bass clef on the staff/that means it's in the key of f/to read your notes start at f go up and then down to read what is on your f clef staff/1st one to far left is a b flat

I’m going into 7th grade this year and for my 6th grade year of band, I never learned how to read music correctly. I couldn’t learn the way my teacher taught it, which was us to just read with nothing else to go off of. This helped a lot and now I won’t look like some lost soul.Thank you!

There are some stupid people in the comments. Pretty rude. A lot of people don't know how to read music. The only thing I know how to do is read pitch and rhythm. I gotta write my positions in. I've passed auditions with good scores and play pretty spot on as well, but I'm trying to stop bad habits and learn the notes.
