See how to make beautiful patchwork (quick and easy) and useful handmade items for your home using only the smallest fabric leftovers.
Sometimes it feels like the more fabric scraps I use, the more fabric scraps I make! Well, not with this one, this is the perfect project to use ALL your leftover fabric, regardless of how small it is. Plus, it is so much fun!

Guys, this is such a fun, happy project! Plus it's very useful too! Have you ever tried making one of these? Let me know what you think! Enjoy!
I suggest using black tulle or netting. Rather than reflect the white light, it allows the colors to show through the netting. Give it a try!
That will look so cool! Must kook into black material. Thank you 😀
Ohh… that sounds interesting!!!
The netting over the basket fabric changed the whole look of all the scraps. They now appear to be a fabric collection and are very cohesive. Nice job.!!
Yes! I totally agree, it just becomes something else 😁
I'm in my 70s and just learning about quilting. What a great way to use scraps! Thank you for sharing ❤
Pizza! That's how we call this good method of utilizing tiny scraps. Nicely done job, Sandy!
I love that, thanks!
Sandy you are a doll! I'm old enough to be your mother but I would be thrilled to spend time with you. God bless you!
Thank you so much ☺️
I like to add a small loop along one edge somewhere so I can hang them up on a board using hooks, or magnets. These can be filled with all kinds of sewing goodies that we like to keep handy, clips, snips, threads, bobbins, etc. I love what you did here. Basically you made new fabric. That’s where my journey into quilting started. I made scrap squares from my daughters dresses I made her back in the early 80’s, and the. Sewed my squares together in patterns, cut them again, sewed them again, and keep going until I had formed new fabric. I tie quilted this one
hi! I did regret not making a loop too, it would look so cute hanging from my tool board! And you guys are always able to read my mind, because I've just made a new video about creating yardage from scraps heheheh. I just love that we're all so in synch around here 😍
Bb long time quilter here. Your ideas are really nice. Press each step. Just press 😊😊😊😊❤
I agree! ☺️
You could use Solvy water soluble stabilizer, then soak after sewing all the lines to hold the scraps together. The Solvy melts away in water and you have a vibrant piece of quilted scraps ready to use.
I've never tried that. It completely dissolves? So the ends of the fabrics may end up sticking out? Or does it keep a layer over it even after dissolving?
@@seweasybysandy Put the water soluble stabilizer on top of the scraps and then stitch. Depending on the size of those small scraps you may have to stitch/quilt a smaller pattern. After stitching rinse the piece in warm water and allow to dry. I use that method to make a thread bowl.
Yes! That’s what I originally thought she was doing when I saw the thumbnail
A very cute project. Thank you.
I absolutely love the effect that adding the curtain creates! Definitely have to do!!😁👍
I love this Sandy. I love the veil and what it does to the all the colors. It’s beautiful.
Hi! Thank you! I've just messaged you on Etsy with some photos of our project! I hope you love it as much as I do😀
@@seweasybysandy I will go look. Thank you. 💛
I love to make these, I usually leave my opening in the bottom of the lining for turning. Thanks for sharing!
I've done it too, it's such a fun project!
Found your channel by chance. ❤ I instantly liked your way of explaining. 😊 The basket is great!
Welcome! Thank you, I hope you have fun with us 😁
This reminds me of, apart from the 1960s. The possibilities are endless. Thank.
I Thank you for this GREAT idea. I have lots of scraps and I'm going to make some of these for a Garage sale I'm having when the weather is good. ❤Sandy you are a precious person with a very sweet spirit. I always enjoy your videos. Keep the ideas coming!!❤
Thank you so much 😊
Great project for small scraps. Happy pasquetta.
Thank you! You too!😀
This is a great idea! I even pulled out some scraps from my sewing room trash basket to use in this project. I’m looking forward to making these.
That's awesome! My work here is done hehehe. Let me know how it went and have fun! 😀
I love sewing scrappy pieces. You just brings things to a new wonderful level . Thanks🎉
Great idea for all my crumbs! Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm.
I love how cute this is what a nice use of scraps❤
Thanks so much! 😊
I love your cute little basket. What a genius way to use your tiny scraps. Thank you for sharing. God bless.
One of the first things I learned to make were baskets! I only started sewing in 2021, and I LOVE the idea to use scraps to make a basket! Thank you!
They are so much fun to make too!
What a sweet project! Thank you.
Great use of fabric scraps I usually just throw away. Thanks for sharing this tutorial ❤
What a delightful way to use scraps to create a colorful vessel. I had fun making one and plan to make more. It is nice to replace some of the plastic containers in my craft room with a piece much more easy on the eyes. I didn’t have top fabric so I savaged some netting from my garden supplies and it worked out amazing. Have fun everyone. Quite easy and fun to boot. Thanks for the tutorial 🫶🏼
Thank you Sandy❤
Amazing. I love that idea to recycle scraps of fabrics.👍
Thanks for the idea, it's beautiful. The opaque layer was smart!
Great idea for using scraps…gonna try it ❤😊
Let me know how it goes 😁
What a fantastic idea for all the scraps and how fun! Great idea, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful work
I like how you folded the basket, and then boxed the corners. It cuts the bulk on the corners in half.
You could also use tulle instead of the sheer curtain fabric. I've used it before and it lets a bit more of the fabrics shine through.
Yes, it would look so lovely 😍
Sandy that's such a cute project...Love it!
I love it! Thank you for this idea!
I really like this idea. Some days all you want to do is use those little pieces of fabric you love to make something fun and useful!! Thanks for a great idea.
Exactly! 😁
I love your basket. I too have fabrics that are special to me. What a nice way to have them on the sewing table with me.
I can't stop looking at it 😍
This type is fun mindless sewing. If it is wonky a fun piece it becomes. ❤
Absolutely. I've been into mindless funky sewing lately, I'm loving it 😁
Beautiful
Beautiful idea❤
Adorable!!! ❤
Nice. I would use a regular, full-sized iron or maybe even try a Cricut Easy Press, which has a larger, flat heating surface.
Cute project.
Love it
Such a cute project!
I’ve seen a few comments recommending black netting but I rather like the white- it made it pastel!
I'm definitely trying the black soon 😁
Very cute
What a fun idea!
Love this video. On point. Thank you
Thank you ☺️
Very cute! I have a ton of scraps and will try this. Thanks!
Let me know how it went 😁
Love this. A definite try. ❤
Love your accent.
Thank you 😊
Really cute and great idea!
Thanks!
So cute!!! I like you idea!
thank you.
Thank you for your video! I
I found your video fun and practical! I want to try it!
Give it a try and let me know what you think 😁
Fun idea for those tiny pieces. If you use a dark color organza or mesh the colors will actually show up better. I learned this the hard way of course. Nice video, will check out more of your ideas.
That's on my to do list for sure, can't wait to see the big contrasts 😁
Very nice!
Thank you 😊
Very nice project 😊❤
Thank you
You are a genius ❤
Beautiful
Thank you 😊
Very cute. The idea to cover with organza is great. I will definitely sew it. !!!Greetings from Hamburg/Germany (and sorry for my english 🥴)
Danke! Your English is great, better than my German, that's for sure, and I studied it for 7 years or so 😂
I make these but I use fusable vinyl after I quilt it. It doesn't dule the fabric. Love the basket!
I thought of using vinyl, I usually use heat n'bond but I kind of like the whole toning down of the fabrics effect. I'll probably give the vinyl a try for a later video ☺️
What is the material that you sewed over the fabric square that you made from scraps?
It's an old sheer curtain I had. Any kind of sheer material or net will do the trick
Why did you put the sheer material on top? To hold the little pieces in place? I wish there was a way to not have that because your basket colors would stand out so much better!
@@dottierobbins939 hi! You don't have to, but I like the muted colors. Plus this way it was easier to sew and I didn't have to worry about any ends sticking out.
Loved this idea. Going to try sewing down scraps without netting, see what happens 😝
You can totally do that. You'll have a couple of scrap ends sticking out and it will be a bit harder to quilt, but totally doable. I did pot holders during Christmas like that, you can check it out in the scrap playlist
@@seweasybysandyI’ve just discovered your channel and subscribed. Love this idea. If you want to do it without the netting you can actually do special stitches on the edge or zig zag so the edges don’t fray. It’s called crazy quilting and you can do so much decorative work it’s a really big rabbit hole to go down. I am making fidget mats and this would look great as a backing. Can I request if you could do some projects with upholstery fabric as I have just got a whole heap for free I would like to use. Thank you from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
@@HereatJodstas hi, welcome! I usually do pet beds with upholstery fabric, it's the only ones that last around here heheh. Yes, you can absolutely do this without the top fabric, I just like the muted, clean look. I always love the idea of taking two things and turning them into a completely new thing. Heheh
I made a basket today with tulle as the top fabric. It was fun! I am wondering if I can make a full quilt this way and if the tulle will hold up to washing.
I think so, tule os pretty sturdy and if you quilt it carefully I don't see why not!
Leave the gap on the lining fabric
So cute. I do wonder why you covered the fabric with netting though?
Thank you! Just to make sure there are no ends poking out. Also, there's a fading of all the crazy colors that I like 😁
@@seweasybysandy what is that netting? It’s not listed in your description of items needed.
@@sewsarajo884 it's old curtain, any kind of sheer, net like fabric
❤❤❤
What a cool idea! I learned a lot from this video. What is that sewing machine foot? I have never seen one like that before.
Hi. Do you mean the one I use for the project? Or the 1/4 inch that I explain why I can't use? The one I use is just a normal, regular foot.
♥️♥️♥️
💜
Just found your channel. Loved your use of s raps! Is the organza necessary to keep the small pieces in place? Such a great creative project.
Hi! Welcome! It isn't necessary, if you sew over all the pieces to make sure they don't move and you won't get any ends sticking out. However, I like how it turns a bunch of scraps into a cohesive piece and the way it tones down the colors 😁
Really Cute! Do you have to use the organza on cute top? I would like it to be very vibrant! But yours is really cute, I just like bold colors any suggestions? For me? Thank you
Hi Melissa. There are other net like fabrics that aren't as opaque, this is just what I had at the moment. If you don't use a top layer you will have to make sure you quilt it very closely to make sure all the fabric pieces won't move, it will be a little harder to sew because the pieces tend to lift and you may get a few bits sticking out but it will work just as well 😁
Where did you get your spinning mat from please?
Hi. Do you mean this one? Fiskars Cutting Mat: amzn.to/3Tl0Slj
Dank je wel voor het leuke idee!! Can you tell me the name of the paper on which the fabrics are glued?
Hallo! It's heat n'bond, the red one.
@@seweasybysandy dankjewel.
Could you use iron on vinyl?
Sure! Just not directly. Use a cloth or a thick fabric in between the iron and vinyl.
The netting will not hold up- I do use it on wall hangings but it stays on the wall not daily use
It survived 3 cats over the years, I hope it will last a while 😁 but I see what you mean
From where did you get that tiny iron
I have searched on net
Yet no results
Kindly tell from where to get that cute tiny iron
Hi. I got it on Amazon. I added a link for it in the description but it's for Amazon US, not sure if that where you're from. It's so handy! 😀
What is the name of the mesh or netting you put over the project?
Not sure, it was just some old curtain. But you can use organza for example or any kind of mesh.
What is the fabric you put over top of the scraps.
Hi. It's an old curtain, not sure of the material but since it didn't melt with the iron, it's probably not as synthetic as it looks 😁
When I've used Heat n Bond, my needle became gummy and thread kept breaking. How do you prevent this? Does anyone else have this problem?
Hi. Do you use the red or the purple? That happens to me when I use adehesive velcro, it's so annoying!! I would say wait a little longer for the heat n bond to stabilise and, if that doesn't work, keep some paper towel or cotton woth something like alcohol or nail polish remover and wipe your needle every now and then.
Not a pretty environment.
Disagree!
I'm in my 70s and just learning about quilting. What a great way to use scraps! Thank you for sharing ❤
That's awesome! It's always a great time to learn something new that makes us happy
