What can say is from his explanation Proton has step up the game. From the built quality, the feature, the material that used for interior and also their finishing is already in the next level which is very good. We will see more when the has offcial launch. I really hope proton can press the price as lower as can just like how Wuling Motors did in their product in Indonesia..

I think Proton X70 will be 120k for high spec ..For this price at the same segment will be a good sell for Proton 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

fukthegoog who really needs awd or 4wd? I mean how often you go off roading or went to genting highland? If im going to buy a car, awd won’t matter since every place i go, 2wd is more than enough.... i can even going uphill at genting with just 2wd cars..... we also live in malaysia where there is no winter season... so i guess we’re good to go... plus, he mentioned that mid spec gets awd option, so if you really need awd, then go for that option la,.....

I'm more concerned about the overall quality of the car, not only the interior part. We often hear comments about local brand car's quality is not as good as the foreign brand. U know, maybe after a few years of driving, the chances of having problems with the local brand car are higher compared to the foreign brand. It might be a steal compared to the cars at its level, but it is still not worth it if you need to spend a huge amount of money on maintenance after a few years. Can't wait to see the video of your driving experience on the X70.

There's a WhatsApp message going around saying the price will be 86k - 120k. Do you think that is true? My mom already considering the base model if the price is below 90k. I know people always talk about reliability when it comes to China brand but if the warranty is 5 years don't really need to worry too much. If you talk about brand and reliability what pops up on your mind when you hear vw? Aren't they like the top 3 car group in the world? Also let's be honest, the Japanese brands are not as reliable as they used to be in the 80's- early 2000s. Spare parts are not cheap as well. Only thing left to see now is how well the x70 can take our roads and weather. Hopefully proton's input is there.
All in all, thank you so much for the review. Can't wait to actually get to see and feel the car when it is on the roadshows.

I really wonder if Bobby will remain the same positive thougt and compliment if this is only a Geely product without the Proton badge. Comparing to what the original makes with a CX5 really shock me and a lot of others.
I have just praise of his neutrality in car review and I hope after the product launched, it proves me wrong.

Now i need to explain this further, first of all, let's talk about the previous generation Mazda 3. When it was CKD-ed in Malaysia, it comes with a higher quality dashboard as opposed to the one from Japan where the entire dashboard is of a cheaper hard plastic. This means Mazda Malaysia had the choice to opt for a cheaper material when they sourced locally, or up the quality - they have a choice.
Proton too had a choice for the X70. We repeatedly asked if what we saw (those CBU RHD X70s) will be identical to the local assembly versions (with locally sourced parts) and Proton management said yes. Now taking their words into account, let me just quickly say that Proton had the choice of:
      1. Opting for lower quality plastics and interior trims that allows them to price the car cheaper, think Honda HRV levels of quality, or Myvi - they have a choice.
      2. Leather, Proton could've picked a lower grade leather - think BMW 530i or Volvo XC60 levels of leather quality, or they can even go lower, the plasticky type of leather used in Japanese cars in Malaysia. - they have a choice.
      3. Dual tail pipes, Proton could've opt for a single tip tail pipe instead of two. They could've saved some money there as well.
      4. Tyres, Proton could've opt for Sime Tyres instead of Hankooks to save money. Think of the low quality tyres of the Iriz, they again, have a choice.
      5. Panoramic roof, Malaysian Japanese or Korean cars that are priced RM150-170k doesn't even have them, Proton could've opted it out again to save money - they have a choice.
      6. The arm rest ionizer, who even thought that could've been something people wanted? Not even premium cars have them, but Proton too opted for it. Again, they have a choice.
      7. Powered seats, even the Honda HRV at RM11xk doesn't come with powered seats, these are stuffs we find in cars costing more, Proton had a choice.
      8. Engine cover, double gas struts for the engine bay, these are Lexus GS/LS level stuffs; no one buying a car within RM250k wou;d've asked for that, they have a choice not to.
So all in all, if the CKD version of the X70 came without all these, we wouldn't have bat an eyelid, but we repeatedly asked and request for confirmation that all that we're seeing, will be in the new X70, and they said yes.
That's what got me worried - how are they going to price it low enough so that it fits into everyone's expectations? Proton doesn't even have a car that sells well above RM60k. The Suprima S doesn't sell, the Perdana doesn't sell, even if the Perdana sells is only because everyone knew they're buying a budget Accord.
The above is the reason why I put up my hand and questioned Li Chun Rong, why Proton wants to jump 3 segments up immediately, so determined, so soon. No one expected them to go there anyway. And he said they need this to turn around Proton's image. A product driven approach.
So yeah, if this car is a Geely imported to Malaysia with all these, I wouldn't be so surprised, because China is competitive, extremely competitive. Car dealers hire masseurs and had full blown restaurants in their service centres to serve customers. Malaysian customers are already happy with some Chipsmore and Milo. Geely's market is extremely competitive hence the above isn't something extraordinary for China. But Proton had a choice not to in order to be more logical and pragmatic and fail safe, but they went all out. Hence my reaction.

Thanks for the informative review ( of sorts hehe. Of course, a proper review will have to wait until test fleet cars are ready ). Nappa leather, wow that is expensive. Be warned thou, this is just the inital CBU unit. Actual CKD unit will follow later, hope that the fit and finish of the upcoming CKD unit will be as good as the CBU units.

CKD will never be as good fit n finish quality wise as CBU. Don't think it's changing with this one.
