In a landscape where villains get a see of analysis videos I respect the people who give the heroes their due. Amazing work on Orion’s analysis, I even learnt a few things I missed when I watched the movie
Thank you so much for that comment. I tried to be as concise as possible, but i still feel like i left a few things out. The basics of Orion is that he's really just a good dude. we live in a world where people dont want to believe that there are people who want to do right by others...but history literally shows us that civilization has been maintained by the few souls who want to see others thrive.
Thank you for this video. I personally sympathize more with D-16 than Orion, but it still confuses me that that a lot of people I've seen in social media say that Orion is actually the villain and that D-16 did nothing wrong. I think it's interesting that they showed that while Orion is well-meaning and has his heart (spark?) in the right place, he is far from perfect and not only makes, but commits to mistakes with disastrous consequences, but that he's willing to own up to them, because in real life, no matter how well intentioned someone is, everyone is capable of making mistakes with terrible, far-reaching and irreversible consequences, and all we can really do as people is to admit we've done wrong, own up to our mistakes, learn from them, and hopefully do better next time. I guess that's one aspect of how Transformers One's iteration of Optimus Prime is inspirational; it tells us that we don't have to constantly make the correct choices every day to be worthy of the good things in life like love, friendship, esteem, purpose and fulfillment, etc., but that we only need to show the humility to admit we're wrong and have a commitment to taking responsibility for our mistakes. It's a nice thing to hear for someone who is terrified of doing anything significant for fear of doing something wrong, like I am. Because of what I've seen on social media, it's starting to feel old school to like flawed characters, but I appreciate it when shows, movies, games, books, and other media have characters who have real character flaws, like genuine moral failings, and not things like understandable and forgivable errors. It's not the only thing art can or should do, but it is nice when art reflects the messiness of human experience, even in movies about giant alien robots. I'll save my comments for D-16 for if and when you decide to make that video, but for now I'll say that I have a soft spot for characters with his arc, considering I am also fond of characters like Artificer from Rain World and The Count of Monte Cristo.
@@wonderlilane3724 this comment was beautifully written. D16 is complex in the way that his trauma shaped him into who he is. I'm still writing the script, and I hope you like it when it's done
Great video analysis as Im glad people see just how powerful and well-written Optimus's character journey is as much as Megatron's character arc was . Chris Hemsworth was surprisingly excellent as Optimus Prime/Orion Pax, and it really shocked me how much range he has as an actor/voice actor since Im pretty sure this was one of Chris Hemsworth's first voice-acting roles (other than voicing Thor in the Disney+ Marvel What If animated series). Hemsworth really sounded like a young Peter Cullen, and Im glad he actually met with Peter to truly honour the character and what Peter has brought to the role by finding the best way to nail the voice but give his own spin on Optimus that feels original. I especially love his characterisation as it made more sense to make him a fellow miner, just like D-16 was than to make him a librarian in the Aligned continuity. It makes their falling out more painful/meaningful and gives Orion/Optimus a better understanding of what it means to come from the lower class. I like how they made him this more rambunctious, hot-headed guy who's so ambitious to prove himself and make things better, albeit at the expense of getting himself and others like D-16 or Elita 1 into trouble. I liked how they chose to have him mature and grow up in the span of the movie to understand the weight of his moral responsibilities to make things better by exposing Sentinel's lies. This mission gives Orion a deeper understanding of how his reckless actions have consequences that he neglected to think about and how he's been unintentionally selfish, prioritising his ambitions over D-16's, which only added fuel to the ever-growing downfall of their friendship. Honestly, I just loved that they chose to make Orion the extroverted, reckless go-getter and make D-16 the introverted, simple, hard worker who believed in the system, two friends with juxtaposing values and beliefs, but both still cared for each other like brothers. That scene where Orion inspires the miners to fight back against Sentinel was so empowering and honestly my favourite scene of the movie because it really shows what kind of person Orion is I love the detail of Orion kneeling down at the miners' level because, unlike Sentinel, he was one of them and saw all of them as friends and family and inspiring all of them like a good father figure, which is everything Optimus Prime should be, a noble, hopeful, brave leader who's never afraid to be *strong enough to be gentle.* There's a great balance of Shakespearean tragedy and inspiring hope in Orion's ressurection as Optimus Prime. At the same time, Orion desperately tries to save D-16 from making a terrible mistake that he won't come back from, but is too late and has to pay the price. This only fuels D-16's mental breakdown, becoming Megatron as he lets go of the last shreds of his former self. Something I really hope they do in a potential sequel is that I hope they explore Optimus's feelings of unworthiness and his inner guilt over how he blames himself for driving D-16 to become the tyrant he became. There's a lot of potential to really dive into how emotionally struggling and pressured Optimus is as the leader of Cybertron, guiding the Autobots to gain their independence from the Quintessons or have to come to terms with that Megatron will come for him. I can see them give Optimus this arc of having to face his feelings of imposter syndrome even though he's given everything to make Iacon better and gave Elita 1, Bee, and all the miners of Iacon a chance to have a purpose bigger than they ever could've dreamt. There is a lot of room to explore Optimus and give him a very compelling arc about the expectations of life and making sacrifices and choices that we can't control. Still, we must strive to do what is right, even choices that lead to a further drift from the people who we once knew as friends.
@@gameheaded@gameheaded Looking forward to it, D-16/Megatron was arguably the best character in this movie, and his journey really made me see Megatron in a whole new way. BTW I just discovered your channel, man. I really enjoyed this video and appreciate how you spotlighted Orion in this movie since his journey was just as meaningful as Megatron's journey was.
Optimus prime is one of my favorite characters in fiction, and he is one of If not *The* greatest leader in fiction. He makes me wanna do better and become better, and in some cases I find him to be…strangely relatable, mostly in terms of personality and moral.
