this was probably the last speedrun done in the true spirit of what started gdq, it's so sad to see that these kind of "just for shit and giggles" kinda runs will get you banned, just because they want to be all serious and shit, not realizing that this is the kind of stuff that got the event famous in the first place
Crihs95 I'm fairly certain he could've done and said everything he did except for anything related to tweeting air Canada or Owen Wilson, and he wouldn't have been banned. The only times you could hear warnings in the full run from the staff was immediately after any time he encourages people to tweet whoever. I'm guessing GDQ doesn't have much of an issue with people being silly and having a ton of fun, even if it gets hectic. I think what they have an issue with is when someone lures GDQ into a personal problem (like AC messing up bonesaw's flight) that they don't want to be involved in. I bet that even if Bonesaw still complained about Air Canada, but without inciting tweets, he still wouldn't have been banned.

Yeh it’s such a joke. They obviously do it for what I’m supposing is sponsors. But this sorta stuff is what draws a crowd, people don’t really just care about the speed runs - it’s the runners and the commentary itself

Sadly Bonesaw577 was banned from running any games at AGDQ/SGDQ 2017 by the GDQ staff. Apparently being only slightly PC on a 2am charity live stream reserves you that distinction.
Never mind that the GDQ people were clearly laughing and having fun and supporting Bonesaw through the entire run; if they banned him (only from doing runs, and only for an year), it's because they're meanies and they don't like fun. Of course, it's not like GDQ have to respond to powers higher than them if anything goes wrong; GDQ are the rules of planet Earth and they decide *EVERYTHING*. Oh, I'm so superior now! I have fulfilled my moral duty by talking shit about an event that raised 2 million dollars for charity.
That, and agdq didn't appreciate starting people trying to spam Air Canada. When Air Canada got mad, gdq had to deal with it, and it was his fault for doing something pretty dickish. And I think he swore despite warnings. Either way, the rules apply to everybody, funny people and painful-to-watch people. They did sign up agreeing to gdq's rules said after all.
Except for the fact Air Canada actually didn't get any shit at all, and when GDQ apologized, Air Canada was like "huh?" Not only that, but saying swearing is bad at a convention geared towards steamers, saying swear words are a no-no is probably a good way to lose donations fast, so doing so in incredibly stupid. I don't know if you know, but it's not exactly like 6 to 12 year olds can donate money to charity. And, on the rule breaking part, I saw no rules broken at all. I don't know if i misses one, but you're blowing the things he did up much more than they were. In general, Bonesaw, their funniest and best runner that won the most donations, was banned for either a stupid reason that in the grand scheme of things didn't matter or for no reason at all.
Superman Superman there were several inappropriate jokes, a fair amount of cursing, and they tried to get him to stop the Owen Wilson jokes throughout the run because they were making fun of him. Don't get me wrong, this run was fucking hilarious. But not exactly family friendly like GDQ is trying to be in spite of their audience being mostly adults.
Well, by that point GDQ just looks like idiots, as they have several M-rated games on the list, so it doesn't seem like in that way they're family friendly. Family friendly isn't even their demographic, so why ban words when it only hurts your reputation like in this situation?
I am totally on bonesaw’s side, but I think it was the lack of commentary on the game and more on Owen Wilson lmao. You could even see he was playing... ummmmmm... not the best... he even forgot three orbs at the end of the game lmao
