A few notes from a Dash-8 pilot: -When entering waypoints "KLONN" for example, type in the waypoint name, hit enter, then you can hit enter again (don't have to click accept) -FPL, NAV, FUEL, and VNAV are used most in the operation of the actual UNS1E -Your '99' trick at the beginning great, however that's a bug and will be passed along to Oleksiy at MJC -To sequence the FMS, on the NAV page, click 'FR' (for from), then '1', then enter-enter. This will sequence it properly. Great video! Cheers
So thats why my flight plans were a bit off, I used the FSX for waypoints and airways, but the Q400 uses real life ones up to date so thanks for saying that Ronald!
Very Helpful! I only got the Q400 yesterday & I wanted to know how to program the FMS to use in VATSIM / IVAO. And, I just found the perfect video! Great Job!
For a dutchman like myself it was extra good listening to you to understand it all but maybe i look the video more times to get the information to fill out the fms in a right way. And flying this Dash8 Q400 is another thing to get it right but it is excited. Thanks for your video to be able to watch it.
Ronald thanks mate for this one, was much appreciated considering I have only flown the aircraft a few times since buying it, cheers your a champion....
When pilots enter their arrival runway and STAR, it is mostly guess work. The guess is based on the current and forecasted METAR for the arrival airport (weather). And, what kind of procedures are usually in place. For your arrival, always choose the runway with a headwind forecasted, or if it's a short flight, the current active based on the wind. For this you can simply google AIRPORTCODE METAR, or you can use an app like AeroWeather.
Awesome! I've used the majestic 300 on fsx for a long time, the 400 looks great. I fly the 300/200 series for a living but haven't flown a 400 in real life. As for the UNS FMS I also think instead of going DTO the first waypoint you could also manually sequence the first leg. In the real thing we use NAV pg1 select the from line and then select the departure nav aid. The 'to' should auto sequence and then you should be right. No idea if this works in the sim. Also, the majestic 300 has no VNAV
Kudos....well done. The No LINK prior to the ARRIVAL should not be deleted. This is designed this way so that the aircraft does not commence the approach with being given the clearance from ATC. Provided you have ARMED and TUNED the APPROACH, upon ATC clearance ACTIVATE the APP and the aircraft will do the rest.
About deleting. If you wish to delete a part of FPL: press the last waypoint you want to save and enter a reference number greater than the reference number of the last waypoint on the FPL. If you enter 99 it deletes entire FPL as 99 is the max number of waypoints which can be saved in one FPL... :)
Marvellous video Ron. Clear and eloquent! Thanks for taking the time to create and post it. Does anyone know of any utility that will create/convert/save flight plans in .fpr format? I use vRoute - that saves in many of the common formats, but not Dash8 .fpr ... yet.
Many thanks for your VERY good video it has helped me greatly. I really hope that you will make more for us out here who are really struggling with this lovely aircraft. Startup video would be very good. I like your style. We really need your help. regards Richard
Great tutorial. Just one concern. I have seen cases where the runway and runway threshold show up in the ND. Any idea how to do that? in your example, you are lucky to have a fix right infront of the runway. So you can establish on that fix. (Even in your example, the airport shows up as a fix and doesnt look like a runway)
Any idea when the Professional version of the Dash 8 will be released? Months or weeks away? I know you're Beta testing it currently and many of us can't wait to upgrade our Pilot versions of this fantastic aircraft to take advantage of the all the great features the Pro version has to offer. Great video and tutorial on the FMC, thank you for taking the time to put it together, it was very helpful when I first purchased the Q400 back in early June.
Hi,i dowloaded a Majestic Software Dash 8-Q400 but my cockpit is so different, where can i found it? i'd like to practice with your tutorial. Thanks in advance
Then it should also be made that 99 is in the manual, from the "Systems Overview" "Entering the number “99” as a waypoint name will clear the flight plan."
I should be more clear, on the real UNS1C/E entering 99 in the flight plan page will delete the entire flight plan (as properly documented in the MJC Manual), including the active waypoint. However, my comment is regarding your technique of 99ing and then re-sequencing the FMS to remove it, this is the bug, and shouldn't be required. :D
Yep I'm Norwegian, I would make an entire tutorial but I'm by no means very confident with my knowledge.. I can barely fly it as it is, maybe in a few months time ;)
I would really have liked to have followed the vid. Unfortunately, you went through things so fast and moved the curser around the screen so quickly that I got dizzy and gave up! Perhaps you could upload another turorial that is a little morre relaxed and not so frantic. Cheers.
+Aaron Dowden I have this aircraft and my fps is cut in half from exterior to cockpit. I can hold 60 fps on any default aircraft on extremely dense at CYYZ (Toronto Intl) this cockpit kills my pc though?...4.5 ghz 8350 and gtx 970
Please record at a higher volume please.. you have this thing taped so low can barely hear you.. Thanks I have to put on speakers just to raise the volume on it so I can hear you..
Am I the only one who already used 5 (!) different email addresses and still can't login to edi-gla-uk?? It is frustrating and no matter what I do, I always get the red cross next to the username login window.... Anyways, thank you for your tutorial, really well made!

Great introduction Ronald, top-notch FSX filming as usual. Take care buddy.
One of the best FMS tutorials I have seen,......good job bro!

Best tutorial ever. Thank you for being so direct and to the point.
0:35 that picture is from my local airport! The most 'exciting' aviation moment in danish history if I'd say so myself

Perfect explanation on how to set up the FMC on this airplane! It's been really really helpful for me! Thank you very much =)
Thank u so much bro for telling us a free flight plan provider.
Nice tutorial. I`m mainly flying the PMDG737. Thank you and happy flying. :)
very well done and informative. Would have liked to have gone over perf and vnav a bit more but it's enough to get someone flying

Nice video.. I fly this plane for a company is Australia and that was mostly spot on. I have a few videos uploaded from my Gopro if you are keen.

I thought I was the only one with shitty flares haha, good thing you cleared that up!
Great tutorial, take care

Thanks for clearing that up, I'll add an annotation quoting that.
Very good Ronald
Great work, video and instruction but could you slow down the mouse movement a bit? Gets difficult to follow. Thx.
hai ronald. can you make a tutorial of how to determine the T/D in the VNAV page?
Nice explanation, btw I like your English language I enjoyed listening :p
question, how do you make the mouse to have a "halo" around it?
Which edition is that? Pilot, Pro or Training?
Great tutorial ;)
I'm wondering if we can use the newer FMS gauge with the older majestic 300? Any help here would be appreciated!!
Nice Video..! Please keep posting more videos.Greeting from Venezuela...!!!

Hi,i dowloaded a Majestic Software Dash 8-Q400 but my cockpit is so different, where can i found it? i'd like to practice with your tutorial. Thanks in advance
Hi Tks for the Video. How do you save the fliht plan so that you don't have to re-enter it all the time&
Thanks for the video , just made my life better :)
can i load a flight plan directly using little navmap? how to accomplish? what buttons do i use?
Hahaha! I actually was on Sola and trying to plan a VFR to Aberdeen when I started this video :D
What about go around procedure ?
Delete no link in fpl and after ?
What I must to do for a new approach ?
Very helpful...much different than the Boeings...Thanks
sweet vid! how much was this addon?

+Aaron Dowden I have this aircraft and my fps is cut in half from exterior to cockpit. I can hold 60 fps on any default aircraft on extremely dense at CYYZ (Toronto Intl) this cockpit kills my pc though?...4.5 ghz 8350 and gtx 970
SAS Crash, not sure which one.
I'm so confused, it's way different than the a320 or the 737, but thanks, i think il buy the plane...
Please record at a higher volume please.. you have this thing taped so low can barely hear you.. Thanks I have to put on speakers just to raise the volume on it so I can hear you..
He's right
Am I the only one who already used 5 (!) different email addresses and still can't login to edi-gla-uk?? It is frustrating and no matter what I do, I always get the red cross next to the username login window.... Anyways, thank you for your tutorial, really well made!
No you are not alone. Same here
Thanks!
thank you !:-)
I just got this plane and it is amazing. I have no fucking idea how to fly it but I am in HS still and hope to someday fly one of these in real life.
må jeg ha fsx får å fly q400
Are you a pilot? If not how do people know so much about aircraft FMS and flight planning?
Learning. Thats all. Im not a Pilot, but i can Programm a A320 and a 737 FMC completly. Its not so difficult as it seems.
How did you learn? I mean you teach viewers like myself, so who teaches you? Do you just read aircraft flight manuals and things like that? Thanks
Yes, Flight manuals from the Manufacturer. They teach you how to use the Plane.
Daniel M. Very cool!
Aaron Williamson this guy isn't even the real video poster....
Cool!
pretty nice swedlish english
The one at Aalborg ;)
