Thanks, even for us maintenance guys find this useful specially now that many of us havent had a chance to keep active on our work place due to covid, good refresher
Thanks. Many modules are still missing. Possibly half. They are still a slow work in progress. COVID disrupted so much of my life that finding time to finish these is tough, but it is my mission to finish them one day...
@captnabs Really enjoying the videos! If you're interested, when we fly this airplane - after starting the APU and getting the APU GEN online we start a timer for a minute until we press the APU Bleeds ON. Not sure if that's common with everyone but debris and gunk can get in there, especially in the winter with the icing fluids - let it breathe a bit before we breathe it, and maybe more reasons! Happy Flying :)
@@OneBrightSun I honestly can't remember if that was policy at my company or not. It's been 7 years. But yes, some manufacturers even include that recommendation in the FCOM to wait 1 or 3 minutes to allow fluids to flush out of the system. The other reason is to allow the APU seals to reach operating temperature to ensure oil does not leak into the air path.
I found that sometimes APU only starts with AC external power but not DC external power. Any explanation for that? APU Fuel Shut OFF Valve is DC Powered.
Thanks. More are on the way though I have had to temporarily pause my efforts due to some work being done for VATSIM. I hope to resume producing videos in a month or two. Your encouragement is appreciated!
@@CaptNabs sir thanks for the prompt reply. Actually we are having an Apu Mel in one of our aircraft’s. One of my friend says that he did the ignition test which was satisfactory. And so the Mel continues. But next day while doing some other work I found that the Apu gcu connector is open then how had he done that troubleshooting of ignition test. I m writing this just to check if I am missing something. Or that guy is making fool of us. 😄
@@vinaymalik2986 Thanka for watching. Let me preface by saying I am a former Q400 pilot and not a mechanic so I am not a maintenance expert. But as far as I understand it, it should be normal for the GCU contactor to be open when the system is unpowered. The GCU contactor should only close when the system is powered on, the APU is running, and the GEN button is selected on. Good luck troubleshooting. You guys have a hard job chasing down what issue is making these systems fail. On behalf of all your pilots, Thank You.
Thanks. Please keep in mind that my information is aimed at simmers. I have simplied things on occasion when the information was irrelevant to simmers. So crack the books open while you follow along. ;)
This is so incredibly valuable for any mjc8 simmer... thank you so much for your effort !!

Yep. We all need refreshers these days. Never even considered you as a target audience, but it make sense. Thanks for keeping us flying!
Thanks for the effort you put into these great tutorials. We’re missing Fire protection & Ice/Rain protection modules though!

Great work brother

I must say I enjoyed that module very much ...thank you.CAP.
Wonderful, like those Video Tutorials. Thanks for your efforts, and that simply splending tutorial :-)

If the Apu gcu connector is open can we have a successful ignition test.
Are you talking about the APU's Built In Test? Then yes, the APU Built In Test requires power from one of the buses, but not from the APU itself.
