As a bass builder who's been watching this channel for years, I'm stoked to see a dedicated bass build! I built a neck out of a super wormy piece of oak once and I used an air compressor to blow the sanding dust out of all the holes prior to applying the finish. Love the build and I'd love to see a neck-thru bass in the future!!
Ben, your creativity, innovation and master craftsmanship inspires beyond measure. All your TH-cam and crimson content is excellent. You’ve become so familiar it almost seems like your a friend though obviously we’ve never met.
Love this Bass. I am glad you send the center piece with the rear cavity template. It works great if you use a thin cover and need reinforcement under that thin cover. I used it on one of my latest builds and I'm so glad I had that center piece! Peace and Love.
It's looking amazing already!!! Especially glad you went with the single-cut shape, since that will also give you options when this bass turns out to have some neckdive - you can position the strapbuttons accordingly 😎🙏
Hey, Ben! Top tip for cleaning out the burr grinding wheels and burr bits. Don’t use a brush to get the wood bits out. Burn it! That’s right, take your butane/propane torch and have some fun! It won’t hurt the bit/wheel and it’s easier than using a brush.
Bonjour Benito. Love the channel and vids as always. More so loving the bass builds 🙌🙌 Should you ever read this, I've always wanted to see a carve similar to the Warwicks or Spectors where they have a belly curve on the back and a curve on the front, I'd love to see that done. Challenge laid down!
More basses indeed, please! Can you also make a headless, fan-fretted one next? Ideally with sound chambers. I think that is my dream bass: with a J pickup configuration.
Ben, if you’re fishing about for a challenging build you might consider a resonator-style (aka Dobro) guitar. Don’t think I’ve ever heard you mention one. Of course, if you wanted to take that to an extreme try a Brahms guitar. Now that would be crazy.
You're right. You *don't* build enough basses. (LOL) Looking forward to your fixing that. I always love it when you start carving with the angle grinder.
Love the channel and the fact you are now doing a bass. Because of you I now have 4 custom bas guitars and am now working on 5th. :) Swift question ... my 5th build is one that someone else started and didn't want to finish, so I've taken it over. it is a through body neck bass, which has the neck already carved to shape... but the fret board is still a slab of rose wood. Is it best to shape the fret board first (cut to size and radius) or is it better to glue to the neck and carve in situ? ... keep up the good work Ben
At first I saw that body shape and thought, darn, he ruined that beautiful wood, then you cut out the shape and I went pretty cool and once your carved it…man that shape rocks beautiful work. PS I use that grinder on my last neck and I’m never going back to the all hand work Beautiful builds thank you 🙏
One question if you don't mind - do you ever do raffles for a left handed build? I'd love the chance to get one of your guitars but there's no point in me bidding on a right hander as I can't play it
"Soup. Not Tea." Judgement free zone. You want to dip your buttered bread in your tea, you do you. :D Can't wait to own it. (It's my lie. Let me tell it how I want.) Fingers crossed.
Hi Ben, I heard you method of carving the C shape in the neck by bisecting the faces of the neck multiples times now and I think it’s a good approximation towards a pleasing shape. If you want to make a neck that has more of a half circle / half elliptic shape geometrically you should rather go 7/10 (or exactly: 1 over root of 2) from the corners in / towards the fretboard and with the next face 6/10 and then continue with halfs. It would make the neck more „Fendery“ and less „Gibsony“ IMHO. I hope this comment reaches you and maybe you can experiment with this new approach. Try to draw a circle and a square around it and use the method - you will know what I mean. Greetings from Austria
Can I ask what that cutter is in the angle grinder please . I’ve been using the flappy sanding type discs which are cool but that one looks like it could be much more accurate for contour carving
Ben, here is a life hack... tape down the shop-vac hose in the area you are grinding the wood...(19:00 min. mark) it will cut down on dust everywhere,...including your eyes.

Ben, what type of abrasive disc are you using to do those body bevels? I recently used an angle grinder to do the forearm and belly carves on a build, with a flap wheel (probably about 120 grit), and holy crap, that thing moves wood scary fast... almost went too deep in a fraction of a second a few times! That looks a bit more controllable, would love to try!
As an amateur that has done what feels like 100m^2 of tiling in my house… this blows my mind. Such a good idea. Much less wasteful, and that wiping off of dried grout no longer a problem.
Aww just fill in a few voids on the front and back... Not every one of them. To have it only on the neck would be a travesty! An even dispersal. I love this wood!
Wait.. that pic. 67 was it? Is that the boss?? How old is Ben? Because I can't wrap my head around the idea of this guy being around 60. He's too young
OH...I hate when people show photos of me when I was young...it's so strange...was I ever that young...Is that even me because I have changed so much through the years.
I'm a music buff and have always been interested in how instruments were made and built particularly the bass guitar this is very intriguing.
Yes! More basses please, this looks great

Wow, thank you so much!
Why is this channel so so so appealing?
I can hear the tools and the beautiful sound of wood, and even voices without background music. Great decision. Keep that up.

Thanks for this build. I’ve been hoping to see a fretless project and am really enjoying it.
Love the idea for the "frets". That body is just amazing.
Been watching your videos for awhile now. You have inspired me to build a 5 string bass . Keep up the awsome work.
That's amazing, I'm so glad. - BC

That body is giving some serious Abasi vibes. Coming along great~
Looking great! Love it.
Yes, building a BASS!
Such an awesome bass! Excited to see more bass builds on the channel!

So happy that Talitha got those photos included in this edit. Thought Ben might veto that! Enjoying watching my bass being built again.
😆 Ben doesn't often get to see the edit before it's public...so, sssshhhhhh, he still doesn't know 😇 - TC
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars I wish we had the love button too. Great job Talitha. Miss having you on the streams

Looks like I'm not the only one who uses the router only to realise afterwards that every drawer in the workshop is open and now full of debris!
oops!
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars I have a comment below here which I assume is SPAM?
Where can you buy those super long flexible drill bits? I've never been able to find them.
"Burn it ... perfect"
Sounds like ideal samples for a techno track.
This is such a cool bass
Love the channel
I love the shape, would be really cool to see another offset bass thing with 24 frets or something.

hello ! what's the "head" that you use on the angle grinder to carve the body ?
Yay a bass, wait what we can win it ????? Count me in. Got my tks

Very nice, I wonder if Charles Berthoud could play it once finished
This headstock looks like Peavey headstock for Predator Series.

Got to say it again - that should become the descendant bass production model
What I have been wondering since the first episode is: will the body, with all the spalling and voids in it be strong enough for the string tension?
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! BRILLIANT!!!
Thank you so much!
Fantastic! Thank You so so much!
Nice work, I am planning on reshaping a guitar neck from a C to V profile. What tools/method would you recommend to acheive this?

The brand is Saburrtooth I believe
If I tried that brass truss access trick 9d simply epoxy the truss rod and screw everything up.
MORE BASSES MORE BASSES MORE BASSES
I'm loving how this one is turning out. As a bass player, I'm kinda biased. 😉
I just wish I had some extra money to buy some raffle tickets.
true.. you don't do enough basses :)
how about a semi-hollow archtop next
The shape has got a definite Tosin Abasi vibe.
Fretlevelingbeam. Or as Ben call it "The Everything"
Try epoxy in syringe and squeeze in (I grout tiles this way with empty caulking tube)
As an amateur that has done what feels like 100m^2 of tiling in my house… this blows my mind. Such a good idea. Much less wasteful, and that wiping off of dried grout no longer a problem.
The only thing cooler than that truss rod insert would be a 70s style bullet truss rod adjuster
You definitely don't build enough basses :)
I think this design would look epic headless.
Where can we buy the raffle tickets?
Link in the description.

Maybe you should get you’re self a leather apron?would look nice on you too.
Instead of putting glow in the dark pigment, if the body was darker, gold pigment epoxy would look good . Next time maybe
Man... Your accent is funny. What is this "centimeter" measurement you're using. It seems way more intuitive than what I'm using.
That headstock is very Peavey T-series.

Bench Hook?
Oh no !!!!!!
A raffle seems like a lot of work. Why don’t you just send it to me.
