My friends weren’t into Bruce in late 70s and early 80s. I was drawn to Born to Run and The River. Somehow I felt a feeling of guilt or not belonging because I loved Stolen Car and Wreck on the Highway. What 17 year old listens to these dark, quiet songs? I was supposed to only listen to Stones, Who, Seger, Eagles, all great bands. I’m 54 and these songs mean more to me now than ever. No guilt, no not belonging feelings just grateful I was able to recognize greatness early. .
It's not just that era. Our dad was a music lover, mainly the country genre, but we had Clyde McPhatter, Ray Charles & many others. We were wild & there were a lot of us. Running through the house he'd say "Stop, listen to his (or her) words. He insisted. I love the storytellers. Billy Joe Shaver, Fred Eaglesmith, Bobby Bare...
I too love those songs and Drive All Night, while the rockers on The River did little for me. These 3 songs still touch me deeply. Just heard Patti Griffin's cover of Stolen Car, man does she capture its spirit.
It became one of mine when he played it on Sept 18,1985 in Oakland when I attended my first Bruce concert. It was the last live ESB version till 2009 (Danny Federici died in the interim). I knew it was a deep cut when I heard it. Stuck with me ever since.
i have heard many versions of the song. But this conjured up my whole body from the first to the last minute with goosepumps. That's the fascination with this band. The perfect composition of the instruments and the background singers. Above all, the voice of the boss himself, which is unique in this universe. I wish I had been to this concert. Thank you for the upload.
Thanks Boss. Beautiful, sweet and very sad all at the same time. It happened to me. But as they say time heals all wounds. But the scars forever remain. ❤
mine too, I can't avoid crying every time I listen this song with some attention. For me this is the real pain, when you feel that you life really doesn't worth a fucking shit. it's the purest Springsteen
he certainly opens up some dark places in his mind when writing this type of song, yet I love the almost uplifting music, which to me is like an inner hope that things will turn out right, even if the lyrics seem to suggest otherwise.
Yeah you people have said it all ,really nothing more to add except, 50 + years and still at the top, but we all get old and die ! But #1 on. My bucket list is to see him perform at one of his concerts! Amazing musical genius! Greggo B
Seen him 4 times with e street and once solo, last time 2009. All great experiences but I must say his late albums don't tell me anything. Perhaps time to retire even for a great performer like him
Criminally underplayed song. Just fantastic. So much conveyed in so few words.
So true

I'm almost the same age, and my experience was the same. In Australia it made me even more of an outsider, because nobody had even heard if Bruce

@@cvb94 and Point Blank as well!
Ditto.
When this plays in Copland, it's one of the best music cues in cinematic history. Devastating song.
Exactly why I'm here!
To play a song that slow , THAT good - any seasoned musician will tell you is a true sign of greatness . Johnny G
One of his best. Magic when it is played in the movie "Cop Land" even though it is just a small part of the song.
That was my favorite scene!
“All the best girls were taken.” Heartbreaking stuff.
Just saw that movie and I agree, it absolutely was a perfect track for a special scene. Sly’s best movie.
I could never pick a favorite, but this is the greatest song he ever wrote.
My first Sprinsteen concert, worth every penny-- the voice and soul of my generation
Raw and beautiful. The metaphor of the stolen car is profound. It's a cry for help that goes unheeded.
I may have cried a hundred times listening to this song. And the best thing about it is that I don't know why I did it.
I'm with ya 🤗
I feel the same
Mee too❤️
@@nickdickinson4613 proviamo la stessa emozione! Ciao Nick! 🙋♀️😍😊💘
A lot of people's story, told in 5 minutes... only the boss is capable of doing this...he is the greatest !!!!
Loved you Bruce & E Street Band from your early 80s . You are truly the best, you make me rock, you make me cry. Lots of LovefromLondonxx
Bruce Springsteen the face of the Telecaster!!. Iconic voice anyone who listens to 5 seconds of Bruce knows it's him.
Can't listen to it enough. How did he write my life into a song?
Bruce is the BOSS. Enough said......
maybe my favorite Springsteen song.

My favorite song. Listening since 75.

Surely one of his best lyrics and one of my favorite songs.

The voice and sound is outstanding. I hope there is more of this quality / this gig. Thank you very much for posting.
Excellent song writing Bruce. Carving the heart.

Brutal, Bruce!!!! Una verdadera joya que llega directa al corazón
Kako divan glas. Volim te kralju, pa makar se ti ljutio zbog toga. To je jače od mene i traje baš odavno.

Just discovered this song. Now I’ll look to the stars with it
First bruce song I ever heard and from that one song I knew it would be something and has it been quite a journey listening to him
