Good luck to others. I definitely broke my drill trying this. I guess since the chuck was broken it was worth trying but I was hoping for different results.
My chuck just spins anyidea what I might be doing wrong?
Not as easy as shown.....after 15 or more knock then the chuck loosen up. Had to knock the allen key with hammer as hard as I can.

So the whacking to loosen the chuck did not work at all for me! I was hurting the rest of the drill, not even an power impact wrench did it. Here's what I did to get it loose:
Remove the flathead screw first with the drill assembled.
Disassemble the whole gearbox. I was going to replace it so no need to keep the parts organized
Remove the circlip holding the main chuck shaft into the gearbox. Needs circlip pliers.
Now the tricky part: You need a T45 long bit with socket holder, and an E10 Torx socket, plus a regular socket wrench and a long socket bar.
Put the E10 on the end of the shaft that was in the gearbox, the T45 inside the chuck.
Put a regular socket wrench on the e10, put it on the floot, stand on it. Put a long (1m) socket bar on the T45, and twist it open.
Done! Good luck...

I tried this solution and others on TH-cam that use a hammer instead of their sense. My solution was to remove the left hand screw as shown, but know that this may take 2 people, one to press down on the screwdriver and the other to turn it clockwise to loosen. Next, instead of hammering on an allen key, use a hammer drill. I tried the beat on it method for 2 days and got nowhere and was making a mess of my drill body. I realized that the solution was torque and what better than a hammer drill to provide that. I cut off the L end of the allen key and inserted it in both chucks. Se the hammer drill to run in reverse and gave it a couple of shots on the trigger and the Makita chuck spun right off.
Moral, don't use a hammer, use your head. Thanks!

Ive a 6095d and can't get chuck off to dismantle to clean battery contacts.i think I've made a mistake by taking out the 2 screws from the torque ring. Help
What do you do if the chuck just spins and doesnt break free when you strike the allan key?
After you've put the Allen key in, if the hammer method isn't doing the trick, can you just twist it off or no?

Thank you.. Kind Sir, worked like a charm! I used 20vt Makita to take the screw out, was much better then screwdriver after bunch failed attempts, the Allen wrench with the hammer trick also worked flawlessly... Just saved myself $150.00
I was struggling but eventually put the Allen key in the Chuck then the other side of the key in a vice and put the drill into reverse and it just wound the Chuck off as easy as anything.
Got the chuck off! I didn't have a large allen (that I wanted to hit with a hammer, anyway). Tried a few of the other solutions suggested in the comments here but no luck. I finally broke down and went to HD and bought a cheap set. Used the largest the size, 3/8". Tightened the chuck as tightly as possible and gave it a quick blow with a 4lb sledge and it broke free on first hit. So make sure you have a very large allen key.

I have broken multiple screw drivers trying to get that screw out, any advice on what screw driver can handle 100+ ft lbs and get that little devil out of there? I’ve been to harbor freight multiple times, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and even used a 40 yr old craftsman flat head that seemed indestructible and yet I have snapped every single one, if it comes down to it out of curiosity I might buy something crazy like a snap-on but I’d like to see if you have a fix or secret brand that works

They have them at harbor freight too. Just make sure the bit is long enough
You could see the Lotite stain on the screw thread boiling water is a good safe way to release. Cheers

Thanks for the useful video. Much appreciated. I needed to use an impact driver to get both the screw and chuck removed but useful tips for the future. Makita were looking half the price of my drill to replace the stock plastic chuck (which they don't cover under warranty). Nice metal chuck now replaced for less than half the cost.👍
OK, but my Makita drill is very different! The one in the video looks like my other two, the Craftsman and the B&D and it simply screw off and on for my bit, but this Makita lxt has a small sandpaper like part that holds the bit... and it aint budging. HELP!

Mine is rusted with the chuck fully extended and closed, any tips would be greatly appreciated. Letting it soak in marvel mystery oil in hopes it’ll loosen up

Up to 13mm chuck size
What if you can't get to the screw because the jaws are seized shut??
Had one like this recently and we used some wd40 and a big pair of pliers and worked the chuck til we got it moving enough to get a screwdriver in to loosen the screw.
The alternative is replacing the chuck and whatever it is attached to (ie. shaft/gearbox) and you have to cut it off.

Perfect Information ... I bought this model today to do some DIY Projects ... But Unfortunately i have not much knowledge of the ring which indicates numbers and specially how to lock the bits perfectly ... It would be great sir if you give some time and upload a video on that so that many of others including myself will be benefited by your knowledge. There are many other videos out there but they are all in different languages, im very grateful to you Sir.

I imagine you've figured it out by now but if not, that aspect is the same as any other cordless drill where the lower the number means the easier the clutch will slip so it doesn't damage delicate screws.
Putting bits in the end is just a matter of tightening it over the bit which should be self explanatory

The hammer trick never worked for me. So ended up using locking pliers which provided a solid grip and it was undone immediately.
Hey buddy, I’m having the same issues with my 485 and 484. I’m smashing the allen key with the hammer and it won’t break free. How did you use the locking pliers to break free?

One locking plier on the chuck, and one on the drill section just after the chuck.
Put the drill in neutral mode so chuck doesn't turn forward or reverse and then turn the pliers.

I have a different drill and the chuck just rotates both ways. So if I try to crack it loose it just spins.

The brushed motor really has nothing to do with the chuck, 2 completely separate mechanisms
Was easy to get the screw out, but when I cracked it with the mallet, it turned a quarter turn then stuck again until I wacked it again, then a quarter turn and repeat. My chuck would grip the bit, but only if you tightened it by hand - it didn't tighten by powering the drill. Any ideas?

One of the jaws on my not so old Craftsman 19.2 drill chuck got bent which makes using it a real chore.
With your advice I removed the chuck from my old burned up Harbor Freight drill and it installed on the Craftsman in less than 3 minutes. Now I can do anything.... That doesn't require skill.

My chuck is broke so I can't get anything like a A key inside the grip.....
Not so easy when the chuck won’t come off. All you can do is cut the gearbox up to get to the shaft.

You need to replace the gear assembly I had the same problem inside those gear assemblies there are bearing that wear off after some time. www.ereplacementparts.com/gear-assembly-p-719475.html here’s a link for the part it’s pretty straight forward project.
Av twisted my screwgun to lock it.. an now I can’t untwist it to unlock
Try a heavy rubber coated glove.
Got the screw out but the hammer method has not worked. I used an 8 mm Allen key and two types of hammers. Makita XPH07. Must be stuck.
Try a longer allen key. The longer the better.
Finally got it off with a long allen key. Not sure if it matters, but I put the power on "1" and "drill."

@@princenoah21 Don’t know if you’ll read this, but I had the same problem. I used dremel tool with cut-off wheel to slowly piece by piece remove chuck.
I watched it without sound but I was easy to grasp the technique. My chuck is loose even when tightened up, is there a bearing in the torque ring behind the chuck?
Do you mean the chuck is loose on the drill or just loose in the mechanism?

I ended up using my impact driver the old hammer style to get the screw off the tightened the chuck onto the bit and flipped the impact driver forward and hammered off the chuck too.

Mine had stick closed with the bit in it. After about two days of trying to free it I just broke out the DeWalt and brought the Makita home. Two weeks later, I tapped the bit and freed it. Added machine oil inside chuck and it started working again. Opening and closing correctly.

When I use this method, and I strike the Allen key with a hammer, it seems to just force the gearbox to rotate.
I’m using low gear setting, drill mode, with the drill in forward direction.
Am I doing something wrong? I don’t want to keep forcing the gearbox to rotate for fear of damaging it.
