No broadcaster today could hold a candle to Gerry Ryan as a avid listner he broke the boundaries.
    Rest in peace Gerry.

Misunderstood, made mistakes (who doesn’t), had his demons but underneath there was a heart of gold. Look no further than of course his children who he lived for and Lavinia who he received with open arms, very much letting his paternal instincts take centre stage there aswell. Taking that call, he helped make history. I reckon if asked, he’d point to those two as his crowning achievements.

A tragedy of Shakespearian dimensions. A deeply flawed tragic hero, with vaunting ego, led and misled by legions of evil deceivers, to his eventual inevitable self destruction. No catharsis however. Nothing good will ever come from this. The evildoers are still at work on other victims.

Crosbie is such a liar. Ryan was frequently absent from work. If he did show up, he was late and hungover. The show was dreadful. This was when I listened in 2004/5. The first hour was listening to Ryan eating his breakfast reading the newspapers out loud. Any radio station except RTE would have fired him. He was off the rails on drugs for at least five years, no doubt why his wife kicked him out.
