roo xoxo my mom is one of those lawyers that specialize in women’s and children’s rights so in her office every single week there was a different case about kids being kidnapped by their best friends parents. Guess who’s mom was paranoid and guess who never went to a sleepover

no sleepovers (except your relatives) no after school clubs no showing skin no moving to collage no dark nail polish compares to when they were a child no Halloween
I wasn’t even allowed to sleep over at my relative’s house because my mom would start saying that it’s rude and what not but my brother recently allowed to have a WEEKEND (from Friday night to Sunday afternoon)sleepover at my cousins’ house. I got so mad as well as my dad and told we her and she was like but it’s different like how?
Yeah, a lot of parents do this, I grew up with super chill parents, I mean, we had to clean a lot, and it wasn't like, child labor or anything, it was like, clean the dishes, make your bed and clean your room, when people come over, we all ran around the house, mopping floors and picking up things, making sure everything was all good. I had several friends though that couldn't come over to hangout or play or whatever, because their parents wouldn't let them, they all turned out decent, but they try to be "Bad", which is like, drawing with the other half of the crayon or whatever.
My mom's rules -no sleepovers -no "hanging out with friends" at their house unless my mom knows the parents very well (which is never) :'( - going somewhere? with your friends? hahaha you're joking right? I can't trust you with them - "why do you spend all your time on the computer?" UHH idk cus i HAVE LITERALLY NOTHIN ELSE TO DO BECAUSE IM SO RESTRICTED Okay, well.. I don't have it as bad as other people. But I literally never get meet to meet friends at all except for at school..
- no sleepover - no boyfriend until graduated from college - no tattoo, piercings - no provocating clothes - no after school activities - don't go out after 6pm
A lot of these things are also just strict parents in general; I was only allowed to have friends sleepover at my house and could only sleepover at my babysitters house. I am almost 22 and my mom still isn't comfortable with me riding with my friends who've just got their license
Finnick I'm 13 and my parents allow me to have sleepovers at my friends place but they will be like ' will be there any boys?' 'give address and phone no of your friend's parents so I can call them' so embarrassing!😳 (and I'm indian)
"Can't move out till I'm married" literary EVERY middle eastern girl/boy whether ur an immigrant or live in ur country! like damn u could be 27 and you'll still have to live with ur parents.
ya, same. I’m going to be out of college and working and still living in my parents’ basement for quite some time because I don’t even really want to get married lol
I’m not even allowed sleep overs with my family. Example: my sister moved out 6 years ago and has 2 kids and 1 baby and I’m not allowed over her house alone 🙄
Being African, I relate to "Can't move out till I'm married" and "greet your elders" so deeply. I respect elders but some be overdoing it in my family and they know I can't say anything about it otherwise I'd be considered "the rude girl with no manners" Edit : The more I think about it the more my grandparents notice that I don't even text them nor call them. Because they always had been weird with me for a unknown reason but they expected to be this sexist good African granddaughter. I know I'm not the only one feeling torn.
Potato World ive known one of my friends for 8 years and our parents know eachother and get along and i still cant sleep over or remotly BE AT HER HOUSE WHEN MY MOM ISNT THERE
My parents are Turkish and we're living in France. For my parents, I'm not allowed to go clubbing, have parties and stuff until I'm married. Age doesn't matter, even if you're 18 they'll still have the parental right on you...
Mickey J my mom wouldnt let me host sleep overs because she didnt wanna have to clean like crazy and deal with sleeping arrangements 😂 i could only have one friend over at a time and they had to sleep with me in my bed 😂
Eastern Europe parents are basically the same..no sleepovers, no boyfriends, strict curfews, ALWAYS having to clean and always having Eastern European food for dinner :(
No sleepovers No moving in with your Bf Get straight As Greet elders Get home by street lights on Curfew time No riding in a Guy friends car Yes i can relate a to a lot of them, I'm Indian.
Wow, I mean, the no moving in with your boyfriend one is understandable, I would like for marriage to be sorta special, like, I've lived alone for all these years and now I'm married. And sleeping in the same room as your boyfriend is odd, and probably awkward, because you could break up one day and you'd both be living together, so one of you would have to move out.. I dunno... could be because I'm a Christian, and don't like the thought of that..
It's forbidden in my family because Sex is a Taboo in India even today, you can not have sex before marriage, and to avoid that, guys and girls are not allowed to move in together.
Me in a Egyptian household -get straight A's -I can go to a friends house but no sleepovers -"bRoThEr?" -I have to sleep by 8 -respect elders -no rolling eyes -clean -"you're Christian, don't cuss. (While they cuss) That's it :)
The no sleepover thing is so true! I wasn’t allowed to go to anyone else’s house or have anyone come to mine. My mom firmly believed that something would happen...
Ella G. OMFG!! LIKE CAN WE BE FRIENDS!? haha! my parents never allow me to go to someones house or they come to mine and i ask them why and their like "Something could happen, they could kidnap you, or do something dangerous." 😂
my mom always asked if my friend had a father or brother. its funny to us but in a lot of these countries bad stuff happens so frequently that our immigrant parents have such difficulty trusting.
Being Nigerian I CAN RELATE SOOOOOOOOOO FREAKING MUCH 😭😩 no sleepover my parents would say wats is wrong with your own bed , your degree before boyfriend , Halloween is for the devil, RESPECT everyone if not your seen as being rude, straight As only not less and it has to be A+ the plus has to be there , no allowance, no hanging with friends , wear black on black your in a cult and talk back ooooo chai your getting fvcked up, no show me your muscle clothing , CHURCH service 3 days a week , house chores is a MUST , no nose piercing
Rachel F. Samee omg. Im nigerian(imo state) and i cant go over my friends house(because "no one around your agr does that, I ask my coworkers.") BUT LITERALLY EVERYONR HAS BEEN OVER THEIR FRIENDS HOUSE SO WHAT?? also i cant go trick or treating or ehatnot
Bengi MSP My parents do the same. They ask me why I even bothering bringing it up if all they are going to say is no. So I just stopped asking and stopped trying to go.
My mom: "why are you going to someone else house to sleep on the damn floor when you have a bed I paid for right here? Would your friend sleep on your floor? I didn't raise a follower" 😧
Puerto Rican’s are not immigrants in the US because they are US citizens too.If your Puerto Rican and you want to go to live in Florida you don’t immigrate you just move there.
It's still a significantly different culture. I don't think saying immigrant is inaccurate. It is legally inaccurate but not everything is about laws and definitions.
I literally just asked that in my comment! Because I was so confused. They always told me that we are not immigrants but I feel like people still categorize us like that anyway.
My mom only allows me to go to any collage because she wasn't allowed to go to college and she never succeed in the career she wanted so she dosent want the same for me
This stuff makes me angry. There are a lot of positive values in other cultures but why do some immigrant parents think depriving their kids of rites of passage in a country THEY chose to come to is the right thing to do?
AlJalandhari it's spelled "right" and parents only do it to protect their kids and keeping them away from trouble, they aren't doing it to be mean. I'm thirteen and my parents have a hard time letting me go run around the block. Yes just around the block. I don't get mad though because I know it's to keep me safe. I could get kidnapped, raped, hit by a car, or get jumped.
'Rite' Is actually correct in this instance! Some of these are a little silly like school clubs and sleepovers to be fair. But parents just want to protect their children so i get it.
'Rite' is a social custom or practice/ a religious or solemn act. Rite of passage means "a ceremony or event marking an important stage in someone's life, especially birth, the transition from childhood to adulthood, marriage, and death."
My friends: can eat anythere (in bed, on the floor, in their room) My mom: YOU MUST EAT WITH YOUR FAMILY edit: damn wtf 202 likes?? I almost forgot about this comment, thanks
Dude i think its cool your mom is ensuring that you guys have family time. Im far away from my parents house and i wish i could have meals with them. Cant wait for this pandemic to get over.
My Vietnamese parents rules- 1. No sleepovers 2. Straight a’s 3. Must get a college degree 4. Must go to college 5. Must go to temple every Sunday 6. Not allowed to date till you are out of college
My mum is an immigrant, my dad isn't. But they were equally strict about no provocative clothing and no makeup until I was at LEAST 16. Once when I was about 11, I put on some coloured lip balm and some mascara because I was bored. My dad said I wasn't allowed to go outside with it on. I wasn't even allowed to LOOK out the window. Oh, the joys of strict parents...
Neither can I but I actually love living at home. I live in an apartment at college but I come home a lot and over vacations because I love my family and my brother is autistic so I have a connection with him and my family because of it. I am allowed to go out with friends though
Every Halloween my dad has my siblings and I sit at the dinner table and he talked about why Halloween is evil and we can't celebrate it. This l literally happens every year like DAD WE DIDN'T FORGET!
🇭🇹Haitian parents🇭🇹 1) NO SLEEPOVERS 2) NO HALLOWEEN 3) HAITIAN FOOD EVERYDAY 4) NO GOING TO YOUR FRIENDS HOUSE 5) GREET EVERYONE(it doesn’t matter how many people there are) The list goes on and on
Me going to school Mom:you at school? Me:yeah I’m at school. Mom:what are you doing right now? Me:mom I’m at school. Mom:ok what are you doing at school. Me:mom I’m in class!
I wouldn't even dare to ask if there were boys. My dad wouldn't even allow me to go to a sleepover when there were only girls he already met tons of times #growingupmuslim
No sleepovers unless it’s at your cousins place. 😂 (But yeah even for that you had to send your cousin to your mom (and other way around) or she would say no) 😂 Edit : Guys I wouldn’t made it if it wasn’t for my cousin, and our years of strategy to have a childhood ! So please go check his instagram 🙏 instagram.com/_birkan__ Peace ✌️
Am I the only person that can’t relate at all? I immigrated from China where households are usually quite strict, but it wasn’t for me. Sleepovers were fine so long as I gave them the contact details of my friends. Grades didn’t matter as long as I tried. I could wear whatever as long as it wasn’t overly inappropriate. Parents never came into my room without knocking so doing my bed wasn’t necessary. No curfew as long as they could come pick me up or I stay at a friend’s house. My parents made it very evident that they trusted and respected me as an equal, so it was not necessary to restrict me. As long as I showed them the same respect and honesty that I was afforded, it was fine. I don’t think this is necessarily a wholistic representation of all immigrant parents.
My mom doesn't have very strict rules too. These are some of the main ones. 1. My mom wanted A&B. If I had a C in science she wouldn't be mad since she knows I'm not good at it. 2. Sleep overs meant I had to do something like buy the groceries. Easy. 3. Halloween meant we had a party,a block party. 4. Clothes,as long as it wasn't too inappropriate. 5. If my older friends could drive, I could be with them. As long if my mom knew them and trusted them. (Their 16, I'm 14) 6. Curfew. Be home by around 8:30 pm - 8:50 pm. My mom isn't too strict. Mostly because she isn't home much and is mostly busy. My mom is a Latina. She immirgranted when she was in her 20's.
I'm Nigerian and also an immigrant and I can so relate .just today my mom was like your friend's having a birthday sleep over you can go but you cant sleep over .those a's on your report card are more important than sleeping over .well she was kinda right 😂
I wasn't allowed to go to Birthday Parties or any other parties of any sort or anyone's house for that matter because they always assumed that everyone was going to be drinking alcohol, doing drugs or having sex
One time I was 2 minutes late after curfew and my mom was like: why are you late?? And I was like: I’m sorry I forgot.... my mom: *WELL I FORGOT TO MAKE YOU DINNER* me:grounded....
I relate, I can’t: Have a sleepover at someone else’s house Go on a date until I’m married (don’t ask lol) Leave the house (aka live in a dorm or live with friends or that kinda stuff) until I’m married Wear revealing clothing (tank tops, short shorts, backless dresses ect.)
I can relate to all of these specially sleepovers and clothes. Sometimes my friends ask me why don't I wear shorts ,crop top, shirts which show the cleavage and I'm just like I DON'T LIKE TO Sleepovers , no u can't trust someone else we have a house for a reason I don't work so that u go and sleep at someone else's house...
I'm glad I wasn't alone 😭 Ghanaian parents rules were no sleepovers, no celebrating Halloween (even though it's my birthday and the amount of prayers I got because I shared a birthday with the devil), no eating food other people gave you, no watching "demonic shows" (haven't seen a single episode of wizards of Waverly place), not allowed to listen to any music that wasnt gospel, not allowed to paint nails or wear makeup, church every Friday night and Sunday morning, no hanging out with friends outside of school and so much more. I'm glad now that I'm 19 they let me do whatever cuz I've earned trust but man it was hard 😩
I was never allowed to go to the doctor unless it was life or death. Glad that part of my life is over and I can go to all the doctors and dentists I want 😂
our rules no sleepover, church times on sundays, goes home on 6 oclock, cant stay at your friends house even its just beside you, be very very very respectful,5 minutes late on the house no phone for a month, filipinos are sometimes strict but theyre really loving Guys even how strict our pare fs were lets give them respect through the hardships they did for us
I have only been to one sleep over [I was 8] Because it was only one other girl, her mom and my sister and also because she literally lived in the apartment room across from me. Edit: u dont think i slept iver either i think we left after sleeping 2 hours and went home around 10 pm
“my mom used to get really confused with after school clubs, she thought it was the same as clubbing” I SCREAMED
My mom did too lmaooo, my dad had to explain to her that after school clubs and night clubs are two different things
That’s really funny. This is the first time I ever heard that.

Nisot X literally tho it sucked bc they saw each other more and you just had them to talk to at school
Yup
Can't relate more :(
Oof! I felt this :( like they’d have more inside jokes and funny videos or pics of each other goofing off at home or after school but it was just school, home- school, home for me... for children of strict immigrant parents I feel like our best friends always had closer best friends
Nisot X Omg big FACTS and parents don’t understand this thing!!! They think I’m just making up something to hang out like nooo

It's not, it was meant to scare away demons.
Halloween is actually the night before All Saints day and was designed to distract from the goodness of the next day, and they would dress up as demons and cause terror among people who celebrated All Saints day. If you didn't want to be hurt you would also dress up so they would know you didn't celebrate it.

Same except I can't even wear nail polish or makeup and such at all. Modesty man
I wasn’t even allowed to sleep over at my relative’s house because my mom would start saying that it’s rude and what not but my brother recently allowed to have a WEEKEND (from Friday night to Sunday afternoon)sleepover at my cousins’ house. I got so mad as well as my dad and told we her and she was like but it’s different like how?
Theirs : "No sleepovers"
Mines : ma, can i go for a walk with my frie-
Ma: *NOOO*
i actually asked my mom that the other day and she made up an excuse why she should come too
Ughh same
Same
Mines are so strict I cant even interact with boys.
can i text my friends?
My mom always compares me to when she was a little child
Delsy Hernandez same
Delsy Hernandez Now this is something I can relate to
Delsy Hernandez it’s annoying but at least they want u discipline
OMG SAMEEE
Delsy Hernandez that is so true!
I relate to the no sleepovers part so hard...
My mom's rules
-no sleepovers
-no "hanging out with friends" at their house unless my mom knows the parents very well (which is never) :'(
- going somewhere? with your friends? hahaha you're joking right? I can't trust you with them
- "why do you spend all your time on the computer?" UHH idk cus i HAVE LITERALLY NOTHIN ELSE TO DO BECAUSE IM SO RESTRICTED
Okay, well.. I don't have it as bad as other people. But I literally never get meet to meet friends at all except for at school..
THE HANGUNG OUT THING IS SO TRUE THATS WHAT MY PARENTS ALWAYS SAY
That "I HAVE LITERALLY NOTHIN ELSE TO DO BECAUSE IM SO RESTRICTED" is so relatable. Sad life.
That’s mostly me
Bridget E. That’s lame.
- no sleepover
- no boyfriend until graduated from college
- no tattoo, piercings
- no provocating clothes
- no after school activities
- don't go out after 6pm
Lol if I came home after 4:00 that automatically means I’m doing something bad.
That's sad :(
So they dont want you to go to university?
Didn't miss anything I grew up just fine
Haha my curfew was 4pm😂
A lot of these things are also just strict parents in general; I was only allowed to have friends sleepover at my house and could only sleepover at my babysitters house. I am almost 22 and my mom still isn't comfortable with me riding with my friends who've just got their license
Can relate 1000%
babysitter?
RT
Finnick I'm 13 and my parents allow me to have sleepovers at my friends place but they will be like ' will be there any boys?' 'give address and phone no of your friend's parents so I can call them' so embarrassing!😳 (and I'm indian)
Your friends get to sleep over? My mom thinks my friends will try to rob the place
90's again Same! Arab parents
So true 😂
I'm going to be 20 soon and i'm not allowed to move out lol 😂
True.
1. No sleepovers except family
2. No junk food
3. No Halloween
4. Rarely go to friends
5. Blame me over their mistakes 🤦🏻♀️
I’m not even allowed sleep overs with my family. Example: my sister moved out 6 years ago and has 2 kids and 1 baby and I’m not allowed over her house alone 🙄
Same..
Number five is my whole entire life.
Spoiler
Yep
“You can have sleepovers when you get your own house.” -My mom 2018
The thing is I couldn’t tell if she was joking or not 🤷♀️.
Hopefully she was/is
You should've answered with. 'Mom I dont think people have sleepovers at there friends house when there 30
Let me tell you it’s not a joke

Being African, I relate to "Can't move out till I'm married" and "greet your elders" so deeply. I respect elders but some be overdoing it in my family and they know I can't say anything about it otherwise I'd be considered "the rude girl with no manners"
Edit : The more I think about it the more my grandparents notice that I don't even text them nor call them. Because they always had been weird with me for a unknown reason but they expected to be this sexist good African granddaughter. I know I'm not the only one feeling torn.
Muriel Melly Ikr right I relate with the over greeting elders..
Muriel Melly ikr

I feel bad for you man only studying is the so boring
My parents are Turkish and we're living in France. For my parents, I'm not allowed to go clubbing, have parties and stuff until I'm married. Age doesn't matter, even if you're 18 they'll still have the parental right on you...

Sleepover has no meaning where I live..
Eastern Europe parents are basically the same..no sleepovers, no boyfriends, strict curfews, ALWAYS having to clean and always having Eastern European food for dinner :(
Victoria Watson
Dude I'm from Eastern Europe and my parents allow me sleepovers. XD
Victoria Watson
Also they let me eat whatever I want for dinner. And currently no curfews since I'm nearly 18. XD
You’re lucky 😂
Yes!
yep.
No sleepovers
No moving in with your Bf
Get straight As
Greet elders
Get home by street lights on
Curfew time
No riding in a Guy friends car
Yes i can relate a to a lot of them, I'm Indian.
Caroline M I agree
Appa YipYip I'm Indian too!!!
It's forbidden in my family because Sex is a Taboo in India even today, you can not have sex before marriage, and to avoid that, guys and girls are not allowed to move in together.
SAAAAAAMEEEEEEe
Me in a Egyptian household
-get straight A's
-I can go to a friends house but no sleepovers
-"bRoThEr?"
-I have to sleep by 8
-respect elders
-no rolling eyes
-clean
-"you're Christian, don't cuss. (While they cuss)
That's it :)
Not Egyptian but still relatable
@@epain Latina moms are always fussing about church.
Egyptian parents: no cussing
Also egyptian parents: kilzeg ya zeft
Why do they ask if there is a guy at the friend’s house?
If I asked my parents if I could sleep over at a friends house they would ask me if I was homeless... Middle Easterns I Swear..
I totally can relate. 😂
My dad would say “ you got a bed over here y do you need to go sleep on someone else’s bed?!” 😂
It's not just middle easterns hahahah old fashioned europeans too
Worse was “they can sleep here at our house” uh no you’re too strict for my friends looll

"They can sleepover here but you can't go to their house"
-my parents
we live the same life 😭
At least your parents allowed to have friends over, my parents (mostly my mom) didn't allow me to have anyone come over all!!
Ughh mine too ! I can’t have no sleep overs at all ! Not even in my own house 😂💀
It's Julissa V Yep 😂😂
Yvonne Mhehe My parents say “they are gonna kidnap you and hold you for ransom”
my mom always asked if my friend had a father or brother. its funny to us but in a lot of these countries bad stuff happens so frequently that our immigrant parents have such difficulty trusting.
The sleepover one is so true! She always made reasons not to go a sleepover. Anyone? I can relate to all of these
Yesss sameeee
SAAMMEEEEE
Same, my mom thinks that someone might abduct me 😥
Same, but my parents only let me sleepover at my cousin’s house. :/
Being Nigerian I CAN RELATE SOOOOOOOOOO FREAKING MUCH 😭😩 no sleepover my parents would say wats is wrong with your own bed , your degree before boyfriend , Halloween is for the devil, RESPECT everyone if not your seen as being rude, straight As only not less and it has to be A+ the plus has to be there , no allowance, no hanging with friends , wear black on black your in a cult and talk back ooooo chai your getting fvcked up, no show me your muscle clothing , CHURCH service 3 days a week , house chores is a MUST , no nose piercing

my dad: “¿entonces pa que tienes tu casa?”
ashleyxo omg same
what does that mean
The dad basically said "why do you have a house then?"
My mom: "why are you going to someone else house to sleep on the damn floor when you have a bed I paid for right here? Would your friend sleep on your floor? I didn't raise a follower" 😧
ashleyxo haaaaaahaaa😂😂😜
Puerto Rican’s are not immigrants in the US because they are US citizens too.If your Puerto Rican and you want to go to live in Florida you don’t immigrate you just move there.
Dariana that’s right!!
Culturally immigrating .
I relate with this on so many levels
This is too relatable😭😭 but I'll always still love my strict patents
only sleepover I went to was my cousin's house xD

But parents just want to protect their children so i get it.
no it's perfectly fine! it's called good parenting.
AlJalandhari you spelt right wrong
'Rite' is a social custom or practice/ a religious or solemn act. Rite of passage means "a ceremony or event marking an important stage in someone's life, especially birth, the transition from childhood to adulthood, marriage, and death."
My friends: can eat anythere (in bed, on the floor, in their room)

My Vietnamese parents rules-
1. No sleepovers
2. Straight a’s
3. Must get a college degree
4. Must go to college
5. Must go to temple every Sunday
6. Not allowed to date till you are out of college
yes my indian parents are the same but worse lol
No date until out of college. Why?
JokerL1000 because they believe education is more important than dating.
Wow just wow.

Thats insane
Hermione Granger u think thats bad. i cant wear makeup till 25 ( i dont rlly want it coz i dont wanna damage my face)
I think that’s pretty normal and standard... why would you worse provocative clothing and makeup before 16?
I’m 18 and still not allowed to wear makeup
nayely mendoza your a adult tho
I got 37 out of 40 in my science test so I went to show my dad and he was like

Tania R. You should escape your home wtf you have a free will they need to respect you.
Neither can I but I actually love living at home. I live in an apartment at college but I come home a lot and over vacations because I love my family and my brother is autistic so I have a connection with him and my family because of it. I am allowed to go out with friends though
@adam we're not white

Venus Ishmael lol ,same ! Mama is so annoying about the mixed sex sleepovers she's like "No Zahra that's haram there are guys"
I wouldn't even dare to ask if there were boys. My dad wouldn't even allow me to go to a sleepover when there were only girls he already met tons of times #growingupmuslim
Ne Lly I feel you. But they let my brother go. And all they tell me is “no girl of mine is sleeping outside the house. You have a home and bed.”

Christina xx ur parents is weird
Christina xx Ur so lucky I’m 13 and I’ve never been to a friends birthday party or sleepover
K good for you
Grades didn't matter ? Are you sure you're Chinese
(Their 16, I'm 14)
Steffy Henry Albert what if you were 8 and your friend was turning 8? Why tf would 8 year olds do drugs and have sex?
I got to get to sleepovers but have to beg
Queen Grande it has to be people my parents know or relatives :p
right??
Same
I beg: and get yelled at
Queen Grande My mom's like bE gOnE
One time I was 2 minutes late after curfew and my mom was like: why are you late?? And I was like: I’m sorry I forgot.... my mom: *WELL I FORGOT TO MAKE YOU DINNER* me:grounded....
Man i wish i had parents like this. Caring goes along way when you didn't have either one that cared. These parents sound so loving.
I relate, I can’t:
Have a sleepover at someone else’s house
Go on a date until I’m married (don’t ask lol)
Leave the house (aka live in a dorm or live with friends or that kinda stuff) until I’m married
Wear revealing clothing (tank tops, short shorts, backless dresses ect.)
Are you sure your not talking about my life cause Im the same. Where are you from?
You can't have a boyfriend/girlfriend if you don't go on a date you can't get married if ur not in a relationship😂😂
ناز lol
if you cant go on a date before your married, you”ll never get married cause you will never meet someone??🤔🤔
Yo my parents do the nodating thing too but expect me to get married like where is thehusband going to come from??🙄😂

I have never been in a sleep over
Emely Liu I thought it was just me.....
I have only been to one sleep over
