Peter Straker, one of the backing singers was a backing singer for Freddie in The Golden Boy... he is standing with the other 2 guys.. Freddie adored Peter's singing....and even help produce some of Peter's albums. Apparantly they all had a fabulous time... right into the early hours!..There is a story back from Roger and Freddie living in a flat together, Roger said there was beds that went up into the wall, and once during the night, Freddie was asleep and Roger lifted the bed up and so Freddie was upside down inbetween the bed and the wall...😅... Needless to say, he said Freddie was not to thrilled. Roger said there are tons of stories, and is there was fun to be had, him and Freddie were usually there or involved!.. Also, I was reading an article by Roger and Brian done for their 50th Anniversary.. and the interviewer asks both Brian and Roger separately, who were they closest to in the band... they both said Freddie. As did John back in the day. It was also Brian and Roger who mainly argued and Brian said it would be about anything and everything and it was actually Freddie who was the mediator and compromisor between them. The film Bo Rhap would have you believe it was Freddie who was the argumentative one and Brian agreed with everything..yet in reality it was Brian who was the outspoken one. Even the song John wrote Back Chat on the Hot Space album was about Brian...always having to get the last word in!... 🤔😅
Freddie didn't have a falling out with Peter, but Peter asked Freddie if he had AIDS while visiting Freddie, after that Peter never saw him again. Freddie's PA said as Freddie got sicker he started making his circle of friends smaller, Peter the PA said Freddie even told Mack not to come anymore, because Freddie didn't want them to remember him so sick and watch him get worse. So it looks like Freddie was thinking about how it would make his friends feel and just wanted them to remember him in better times.
Thats his jukebox,at his home garden Lodge, his last interview,I think he had so much fun making this video,he already had the start of the lesions on his face sadly, great song funny video
It wasn't what I expected but it was fun, great fun, for them in that moment. Freddie looked sooo happy with his friends. Thanks for reacting to this. After a bad day, it made me smile. 🤩
It looks like they had a great time preparing to make the video.🙊🙉🙈 Like you said in your reaction, they had quite a laugh.😄 It was great to see. Love to see more of the actual filming of the video content.🎼💥 It was lovely to see the absolute trust and friendship between Freddie and Roger. ❤💕 Peace J ✌ ☮
Yes, Freddie's close friend, Peter Straker was cut from his life during his last year. Peter asked in a private moment if Freddie was sick and that's all it took. Peter has said in interviews how devastating it was to be exiled, as close as they had been.
It’s so special that we got to see the behind the scenes 💕 Freddie had really good friends who supported him & his dream.. 🎵🎤🎶 I enjoyed ur facial expressions throughout the video 💜
It was the part of the making of Freddie actually made Peter and Roger shave before the shoot, he only shaved his tash off and the top of his chest it's funny 😂 there is a full version official version on the official channel.
The video of the great pretender was released as a video single & this was included on that to accompany the extended version of the song. The lady in black who “adjusts” Freddie’s bra is Diana Mosley Freddie’s costume designer….there’s a heart breaking scene in the documentary “the untold story” of the time she visited Freddie during his illness & played scrabble
Yea, this song could have definitely been written for Freddie. Roger was a good friend…and just like the song Goin’ Back where Freddie asked for Roger & Brian to play too. Another quote from Phoebe…. “When it came down to it, Freddie knew that he could create what he wanted on his own, but his life, his music, revolved around Queen.”
Yes, there are more making of videos, some official and some not official, like this one. The ones about The Miracle videos are pretty funny! Nice reaction ❤️
There is another video, "The Great Pretender (Extended Version) - 1987' th-cam.com/video/ly-JZowFHDA/w-d-xo.html . I think the difference is this one includes the music video intermixed in the video.
Brian has said before its difficult to quote Freddie without swearing . If Im correct the lady who was dressing him , I forget her name right now Diane Mosley I think it was , also passed on through having aids not long after him . As far as the Peter thing goes Freddie did hide himself away from many people as he didnt want people seeing him so ill so perhaps the falling out thing was mistaken as something its not
Great reaction, Hap! Loved seeing Freddie having so much fun with his friends and the creative process of his music, even though the lyrics of the song were, sadly, so reflective of his personal life. God love him, no one can compare. ❤
I've not seen an actual "The Making of The Great Pretender". I've only found this & a slightly longer version of this which, as you now know, is "Behind The Scenes". it's all about the guys laughing & having fun dressing up. I am content. :)
Wow, they sure did have a lot of fun making this video. That was so interesting to see, that Queen could have fun and yet get down to business when the time called for it. Sounds like a recipe for success to me!! A fantastic reaction, Hap! Thanks! 💜💜💜🎵👑
Love this and like you said what he's going through and see him having fun with a big smile on his face and laughing is wonderful. Yeah they was really close friends but freddie did fall out and he wasn't allowed at funeral either but I don't know why but freddie must have had his reasons. Great reaction 👍👍
Loved this (even though I’ve seen it before)! Freddie exiled his long time friend Peter Straker when Peter asked Freddie if he had AIDS. For whatever reason, Freddie then cut him out. I’m inly guessing, but Freddie didn’t want to live “sick” or be reminded of his diagnosis. Only Freddie knows his reasons. He told only a select few, and they were all loyal to him and their friendship…visiting with him until the end. Roger was on his way to visit and a short distance away when “Phoebe” called and told him that it was too late and Freddie had passed. Poor Roger then turned back….🥲💔. Sometime after Freddie passed, Freddie’s household employees/friends went to see Peter at one of his shows. In Peter’s dressing room they told him they were sorry and should’ve let his calls go through. Peter replied “Well it’s too late now”. 🥲
Yeah but pheobe said it in a harsh way Dont bother coming he's gone Im assuming it was pheobe who went to Peters show It would have been wrong for them to disrespect Freddie wishes and put the call through Freddie knew how to contact him if he changed his mind Theres probably more to the story
@@bluebell3720 We do not know the voice intonation used. Roger himself has related the story also in an interview . Roger only seemed sad, not angry, and he’s not one to hold back. Phoebe had several calls to make, as well as making Freddie look “presentable” in nice clothes for his final time he left Garden Lodge. 🥲 As to the small few that went to Peter’s show, it was Phoebe, Joe Fanneli (chef), and 1-2 others (I don’t want to just guess) that lived/worked at Garden Lodge.
@@barbaramendoza2202 I haven't seen anything confirm who went to the show but Peter has stayed in touch with him no we don't know the tone but the fact he said 'don't bother'to me is a harsh way of saying it he could have still come to the house

lot of confusion over Freddies 'identity' but both Peters should have respected what Freddie was telling them if they understood or not or thought it was correct or not If Freddie had been told everyone in their family were parsi/persian they should have just respected that but now you can search anything you want I don't understand them still going against Freddie explaining he was racially Persian atleast he beleived that and how his mother and sister spoke and what I've found it probably is the case racially Persian as everyone in his family line were Persian/parsi not Persian + ! both his parents were parsi to parsi parents and so on it's claimed it was an arranged marriage which does seem likely though I can't find definite information I don't think that was discussed by his parents or sister ethnicity 'Parsi' bloodline Persian a lot of people do a quick search and see oh Parsi persian of the zorioastrian faith who fled to India centuries ago oh so by now they must be a mix of Persians and Indians as they had been there a long time probably no actual persian bloodline just desendents had been persian no when they went to India they weren't allowed to convert anyone and most have kept to this that's not to say no parsi married non parsi but it wasn't really acceptable in the community and discouraged but if a man married a non parsi and then they split up the ex wife was no longer allowed in the fire temple or their children and so on adopted children aren't accepted as parsi parsi community in India are given benefits with money housing different marriage laws and so on in 1908 there was a court case and the ex wife lost the judge sided with the parsi community 1908 the judged ruled what the definition of Parsi was but added if a parsi man married a non parsi woman their children could be considered parsi even if the marriage failed so long as the children were of the zoriastrain faith gone through Navjote which is normally around the age of 7 but if a parsi woman married a non parsi man their children would not be considered Parsi there is only a very small parsi community in India now and the gov are worried they will come to an end they even did a campaign 'be responsable tonight and don't wear a condom'! fewer parsis are getting married or having children or only having one child most parsis in India still don't agree with converting anyone or marrying non parsi so unfortunatly in time there may be no Parsis in India apparently zorioastrians in other parts of the world don't have an issue with converting and so on it's mainly in India because it was part of the initial agreement and they don't want to loose their persian line? Freddies father was born in 1908 so he could have married a non parsi and Freddie would have been considered parsi but both his parents were parsi

He sounded upset in one interview saying sometimes I wish people would treat me like a human
Everyone around him knew he was gay
And publically he hinted at it as far as he could
I mean he did name the band Queen!
Anything to do with Freddie comes with a viewer beware warning ;) Which is how he'd want it.
Back to garth
In due time
Peter Freestone his PA
personally I would take him with a pinch of salt
he's misleading but seems to enjoy the attention but often doesn't sound supportive of Freddie
I think he became friends with Peter Straker soon after Freddie died
I wish Freddie had ditched both of them earlier but i hope Peter F wasn't as negative and un supporrtive of Freddie when he was alive
quite often he will talk about Freddie and do this childish eye roll which really irritates me
Both Peters have made comments about Freddie being Indian and dismissing the fact he is Persian
Freddie couldn't claim to be Persian as he is desended of persians who settled in India generations ago
but he was racially Persian and his ethnicity Parsi
but both of them dismissing he was racially Persian
Peter F said well he said he was persian followed by stupid smirk and eye roll but they fled generations ago
Peter S cackling away like he did in this video saying I kept telling Freddie he was Indian he would get so cross
I think he could be a right prat I can't understand Freddie staying friends as long as he did
he was British since he was 17 can you imagine if someone had walked up to him saying you're not British..they would be seen as racist
and it's not nice on Freddie he had a very odd childhood which he refered to as an upheavel
Britain was probably the first time he felt ' at home and actually belonged somewhere despite not being born and brought up here
and to have everyone now claiming oh he wasn't British he was Indian
I see so many comments not saying he was British Parsi his parents were Indian and they came to Britain in 64
it's just he's Indian!
he wasn't born and brought up in India either only sent there for school
I think it's only correct to say British Parsi from 17
to say anything else is not explaing him correctly
Peter F makes apoint that he went to an Indian boarding school as well but it's avery different situation his parents were in India he would have seen them at weekends and so on
Freddie had been sent to a differrent continent to stay with family he had never met
Peter F had been in school in England went to India and attended high school in England
so still some adjusting needed but he went through high school being able to make friends normally and be at home..
Peter F was also making a big deal about Freddie not calling home at the weekend!?
i can't get clear information but I don't think that would have been an option for him in the 50s!
Peter F also tends to give opinions about things he wasn't involved in before he had even met Freddie
he was even giving his opinion about how Freddie relationship with John Queen changed when he got married he didnt even know them! and Freddie wasn't any different with him
and I'm pretty sure he is selling Joes receipies!
Peter F met Freddie at the end of 79 when he did a charity event with the royal opera
Peter was then asked to be a pa during the uk crazy tour nov and dec 79 he went on tour with Queen mainly to support Freddie from 1980 but as soon as Freddie made friends with Joe again early 80s he did the tours with Freddie as well as being his cheff
one thing i don't like about him is putting down Freddie as a pionist and saying well he was good enough for what he was doing in the band
I'm not keen on him at all he had a very comfortable life thanks to freddie and made such a fuss he had to peal potatoes christmas eve as they had gone to have a drink christmas eve but he did say he offered but was trying to make a deal out of it
Peter S met david Minns Freddie partner and that how they got to know each other
David was a producer
Freddie worked with Peter on an album
I think Freddie enjoyed his company most of the time
but as you saw here Roger was being playfull with Freddie and Peter just started cackling loudly and coming over drowning out what was being said
he's very much look at me look at me but not with the humour or charisma of freddie more of demanding it
he did a Q&A with Peter F and Mike about Freddie but he kept stopping the conversation to bring it ack to him or this silly cackling to drown people out
he also took advantage he thought it was funny Freddie was cross he ran up a huge champagne bill because he was bored when freddie was working no respect he also asked to brrow money for a kitchen but no intention of re paying it
just not very nice
then he got all intrusive when Freddie was ill that was the last straw
Yet he's the only friend that Jim Beech and remaining members of Queen trusted enough to hire after Freddie's death. That to me speaks volumes
i can understand why your're saying
the balls to do it
but it wasn't an issue in the uk even then men dressed in drag for entertainment was perfectly acceptable
people didnt think oh they must be gay must hate! that was the US! when Roger/gf? suggested drag for break free
at this point pre knowing aids Freddie had already decided against touring anymore
they had lost US so they could get back to why they started a band to do what they love the way they want to do it!
unfortunatly Freddie though uncomfirmed was very ill at this point
bias or judgement
Roger didn't need to be asked twice to dress in drag!
as for supporting Freddie on a solo
no they weren't sure of the situation but he was a friend of Freddies despite the nonsense over hot space
even Brian did a guitar solo on a track which would have been on Freddies87/88 solo album but he put that aside for Barcalona album so the track ended up being a Queen track
John had less options if he wasn't with Queen but he still supported Freddie and did bass on a track off the Barcalona album
Roger put a band together in 87 the cross and Freddie supported him with that
Freddie had received money to do two albums
he recorded 83 and 84 between Queen and Bad Guy was released in 85 during the works tour
which ended may 85 then live Aid a couple months off then the soundtrack for Highlander/magic album
then tour for that which ended in August ?86
he then arranged with Mike to work on an album with him
they had been doing albums every two years during the 80s anyway
but Barcalona took longer due to him being ill but as soon as that was done they recorded miracle
I think initially it was a year brake or just over then they had to come to a decision and Freddie said on a radio show with them
I suppose they're waiting for me to say
..after the brake we would carry on but only if everyone really wanted it and was hungry for it and we were! but it wasn't just that if we carried on I wanted us to do everything done differently
I would think if everyone agreed which they did they aimed to do the next album to be released in 88 but it ended up being early 89
lot of confusion over Freddies 'identity'
but both Peters should have respected what Freddie was telling them if they understood or not or thought it was correct or not
If Freddie had been told everyone in their family were parsi/persian they should have just respected that
but now you can search anything you want I don't understand them still going against Freddie explaining he was racially Persian atleast he beleived that and how his mother and sister spoke and what I've found it probably is the case
racially Persian as everyone in his family line were Persian/parsi not Persian + !
both his parents were parsi to parsi parents and so on
it's claimed it was an arranged marriage which does seem likely though I can't find definite information I don't think that was discussed by his parents or sister
ethnicity 'Parsi' bloodline Persian
a lot of people do a quick search and see oh
Parsi persian of the zorioastrian faith who fled to India centuries ago
oh so by now they must be a mix of Persians and Indians as they had been there a long time probably no actual persian bloodline just desendents had been persian
no
when they went to India they weren't allowed to convert anyone
and most have kept to this
that's not to say no parsi married non parsi but it wasn't really acceptable in the community and discouraged
but if a man married a non parsi and then they split up the ex wife was no longer allowed in the fire temple or their children and so on
adopted children aren't accepted as parsi
parsi community in India are given benefits with money housing different marriage laws and so on
in 1908 there was a court case and the ex wife lost the judge sided with the parsi community
1908 the judged ruled what the definition of Parsi was but added if a parsi man married a non parsi woman their children could be considered parsi even if the marriage failed so long as the children were of the zoriastrain faith
gone through Navjote which is normally around the age of 7
but if a parsi woman married a non parsi man their children would not be considered Parsi
there is only a very small parsi community in India now and the gov are worried they will come to an end
they even did a campaign
'be responsable tonight and don't wear a condom'!
fewer parsis are getting married or having children or only having one child
most parsis in India still don't agree with converting anyone or marrying non parsi
so unfortunatly in time there may be no Parsis in India
apparently zorioastrians in other parts of the world don't have an issue with converting and so on
it's mainly in India because it was part of the initial agreement and they don't want to loose their persian line?
Freddies father was born in 1908 so he could have married a non parsi and Freddie would have been considered parsi
but both his parents were parsi
Quite insightful
lmao dressing up plus drugs (i guess)
