The smartest thing Microsoft could do right now is get all the older CODs into gamepass. If they had come out with that 4 weeks ago then the GP numbers and consoles sales would have gone through the roof IMO
Xbox will get a HUGE payday regardless if gamepass subscriptions increase or not. They will get 100% of profit when cod is played on pc and xbox, and 70% of profit everywhere else. Theyre about to get probably their most significant boost in revenue and net value since the existence of xbox.
I would assume the hope is ppl sub to gamepass for CoD but stay for Halo, Gears, Forza, Fable, Pschonauts, Crash, Flight Sim, Starfield/Fallout/ES, Doom, and all their other IPs that they have to start capitalizing on.
Yup, that's the promise of subscription services in general. Xbox has a fantastic first party lineup that they can guarantee will always be in Game Pass eventually and (now) on the Ultimate tier day one. They've done a really really good job of building that up through XGS (those aquistions only completed in like 2019/2020), Zenimax purchase, and now ABK. People blame COD for the move to ultimate only day one, but I'd say it's more that Xbox has a crap ton of first party games now. When GP first launched you were getting promised like one first party AAA day one a year (if that; some years you just got grounded and we're happy). Now there's a lot and something for everyone. In the wake of Xbox not wanting to push exclusives as hard anymore, they've setup a system where first party means something more. I think Microsoft is really really counting on the COD crowd to prove game pass's worth in that regard. Inticing more Microtransaction purchases with the 10% discount, freeing up gamers wallets to buy other games (in this case hoping the former only COD gamers now buy something else), and introducing gamers to more games that they "might as well try since it's included" (again this will be huge with the COD gamers since they typically only buy and play COD). This won't be the case for everyone, but I'd say it pays off big if it's just the outcome of say 20% of the COD gamers on Xbox.
I think just cod alone if you are likely to play for the year you are probably better off getting gamepass ultimate cos you need xbox live and to purchase cod which puts you close to same cost but get all the extra games.
They're hoping you'll join for CoD, play that then stay subbed another month for Stalker, then stay subbed again for Indiana Jones then stay another month for Avowed and so on

Of course COD is huge, but Xbox has also done a great job of being loud with marketing recently in general. Previous years they'd get quiet after the summer Xbox showcase. This year the information shower hasn't stopped and they've had a great showing at every event they can. Arguably the best Xbox Games Showcase in June, biggest gamescon booth in August, Tokyo Game Show livestream in September, and Partner Preview in October. They're saying loud and clear Xbox is here to stay and it has something to offer everyone. Hopefully it pays off immensely. The next earnings call is going to be really important (and the one after it will be even more important).
When it comes to CoD and Xbox I feel like we’re not getting a real CoD Xbox made game until 2026/27 because every call of duty’s development brings 2/3 years before
I don’t believe that they were hoping for a significant subscriber boost in the very short term. Of course, CoD will play its part (assuming it’s good), but the full subscriber potential will only unfold in the medium to long term, once, first, a mobile xbox device is on the market (mainly for the Asians) and, second, the availability of Game Pass titles via the cloud is more widespread and independent of devices. The Activision Blizzard lineup also offers enormous potential, for example with the prospect that WoW will not only be added to Game Pass, but (very likely) will also receive a console port and cloud capabilities.
Many developers who joined Game Pass hoping it would be profitable have expressed that it's not worthwhile for new games. For older games that aren't generating much revenue, it can be beneficial to put them on Game Pass to gain some recurring income. However, in the early days of Game Pass, Microsoft offered upfront bonuses to developers for making their games exclusive to the platform, but those days are over, as Microsoft has stated.
Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t want Game Pass. I just don’t jump around to different games, I finish a game and move on. I get the Netflix feeling with Game Pass where there’s tons to watch and I just end up watching nothing.

Basically, Microsoft should lay off their entire marketing staff and partner with Wieden+Kennedy worldwide marketing and advertising and do some brand building with Xbox, Call of Duty, and Gamepass. Make sure everyone knows what GamePass is around the world. My grandma should know what GamePass is and what Xbox is. They need to do most of their work here., For those not in the know, Wieden+Kennedy made Nike's "JUST DO IT!" campaign. Also they worked with Coke to make it a worldwide brand. So, they are THE BEST in the business and they can help Xbox topple PlayStation by building a proper brand worldwide.
I think Microsoft is going to be disappointed about the gamepass numbers because they have done such a poor job educating consumers that call or duty is going to gamepass and more importantly what gamepass even is. Everything they get from Gamepass is extra in this case. The people that have always bought COD every year will continue to do so and being on Gamepass will open it back up to people that haven’t played it in a while or new comers. It’s a win win situation
So long as there's enough to play on GamePass i honestly don't care about owning my games. I have shelves full of old games that i loved when I played them but I've never gone back to and I never plan to. There's so much new stuff I don't need to go back, the closest I get to that is finding a series a few games in then checking out the older ones that are on GamePass like the Yakuza series. Seems like there's some people who like going back and playing for nostalgia, but I'm not one of those people, just give me new experiences.

I'll try out Call of Duty on Game Pass and if it is really good the new one then I will buy the game on Xbox, at least I'll get the test the game rather than just buy it and regret it later if the game were to suck.
So your gonna pay for it twice , all your saying there is your happy for Xbox to double dip on you did you write that comment intending to sound stupid ? Cause that's all you did ? Xbox execs love players like you it's like shooting fish in a barrel
@@weplayvrgames 20 bucks for game pass but if the game turns out to be crap then I won't buy it, then if the game is actually good or great, then I'll considered buying it a month later since I'll have one month of Game Pass to play it. I'm basically using Game Pass as a Blockbuster rental.
@@weplayvrgamesbro u sound so desperate in these comments, are u one of those people that’s mad Xbox owns ABK or that the game isn’t on ps plus?
So you're going to pay to play the game like a trial to see if you like it. And then if you do, you're going to pay for it again. Now that makes zero sense.
@@NotYours-bp5fx well I'm basically renting the game when I'm using Game Pass and I'm going to test it out and see if its worth buying, what part are you not getting, COD in the past has a lot of issues in case you missed the last decade or so, that's why I'm basically going to use Game Pass to rent the game and see if the game is worth buying or not, I got burned too many times with Call of Duty on PlayStation 4 and 3 before COD Ghosts & The Recent COD MW3 Remake DLC are good indications to use Game Pass rather than just buy it.
I don't like game pass i never have and I never will!
I hope that Black Ops 6 fails to move the game pass numbers so that we can be done with this subscription experiment!
@@LarsBars17 sooner gamepass goes the better
Awww 😢
They have repeatedly said game pass is only one revenue source. Game Pass is just one part of it. Not everyone wants a subscription and they’re more than happy to sell the game the old fashioned way too.
Yes. They plan on being a major publisher and so they’ll make money on steam and PlayStation too
@@EggEnjoyer exactly. They have said Game Pass is only 15% of revenue and they expect it to be that way.
You are a bit too pessimistic at times Brad, I admit. There's no reason to be in this case too.
Xbox! 🎉🎉
EXbox.
Judging from the overwhelming sentiment around Xbox on TH-cam, Reddit, forums, Twitter, Tiktok, IG, and teenagers; Xbox is cooked.
You are cooked
@@revben your in denial
As a console. Which they knew over a decade ago. As a multi-faceted game business, they're doing better business than ever. The only numbers that matter are the ones with the $ in front of them on the balance sheet.
I hate to say it, but Xbox as a console isn’t it anymore. They have no clue what they are doing and it seems that they are more concerned with cloud than console and it’s super evident. I’ve been an Xbox fan since the OG Xbox.
This might be a big mistake for them to release this on GP.
Gamepass was always the biggest mistake , and should never have been supported by any consumers , not if you have any sense
@@weplayvrgames They lost the regular console war and consumers are the big winners. It's not complicated
@@weplayvrgamesthat’s a weird take but ok
@@apocMTL digital subscriptions are inherently anti-consumer
@@apocMTL how ? Just think about it further than "oh cheap price alot of games " and you realize what gamepass actually is , it's you giving your money to Xbox execs to determine what it supports for you
You have no power of vote with your wallet , you have no influence as a consumer when you subscribe to gamepass.....that's the real cost
Want a real world example let's take two failures of games , redfall and Conchord
Conchord : people voted with wallets Sony had to pull the game and issue refunds
Redfall: poor release......still made gamepass money.......nothing happened......there was no consumer influence , Xbox execs still took your money and just moved on to the next thing that will ultimately disappoint
It also just inspires poor development, devs have already made the money from Xbox so there's no pressure to actually sell it , we want these devs making games for us , not Xbox execs because what execs want and what we want are completely different
We want good games , execs want low cost high return
I assume you meant "biggest WEAK"? And why is the Series X in your thumbnail showing it covered in splattered poop? 🤔🤨
Uhhh... Pretty sure he meant "WEEK"... Am I not getting some joke here? 😅
@@nickstark8479 the fact that Xbox has been a weak showing for the last what decade or more ?
@@weplayvrgames - the FACT that CONCORD is one of the BIGGEST FLOPS IN GAMING HISTORY tops anything that Microsoft has done. That's a stink that'll FOREVER BE WITH Sony and the PlayStation brand.
Do any of you fanboys have the backbone to speak up with your wallets , if cod , indy , avowed etc are a disappointment will you cancel gamepass.....if not , how do you expect them to do better they still making the money off you otherwise and nothing will change
You failed to make a stance with redfall , you failed to make an impact with starfield now is your chance to stop letting them walk all over you
Stop supporting an anti consuemr rental service
