Robert, I'd agree. I was never a Crüe fan. Once I heard Sixx's shitty rhyme "red lips, finger tips" the band was off my radar. But then a friend took me to a Feelgood show at the Forum (LA) back in the day. Ended up in my top 5 rock shows of all time. Tommy had a lot to do with it (upside-down cruising through the nose-bleed section!), but I was rather blown away at Mick's skill. I really had no idea he was So Damned Good!

@Robert I’ve not done the deep dive into Mars’ playing, but I think something that separates him from several of his contemporaries is his affinity for the blues. He’s not just a shredder, he plays with soul. I’m a mediocre hobbyist guitarist, and while I can appreciate the hell out of the talent and precision and dedication to the instrument it takes to shred...gimme a soulful bluesy pitch-bend any day. That’s what hits you in the gut and makes the instrument emotional. It seems Mars found an original way to put that all together. The guy rips.

Funny and true story: back in the early 2000s I was heavy into punk rock. I was all about wearing leather and spikes and the like. One day I was coming out of my local grocery store and in the foyer where they keep the shopping carts, there was this guy leaning up against the wall, wearing a leather jacket, chains, boots and had this spiky, wild hair. He looked cool as a cucumber and at the time I thought he was a punker. So I asked him, "Are you a punker?!" He had sunglasses on, and he looked at me. He pulled his sunglasses down onto the bridge of his nose and looked at me with his eyebrows raised. I knew those eyes from anywhere and I exclaimed "OMG, you're Nikki Sixx!! Can I shake your hand?" He never said one word to me, but he shook my hand and I will never forget that chance encounter as long as I live.

I only just discovered motley Crue, and I'm in my 30's :( working at a construction site, and my workmate was blasting this cool song outta his Bluetooth speaker, asked him what the song was, and he said " Dr Feelgood". Now I'm listening to all their other songs. So happy I found this band.

That's gotta be incredible in this era to be just discovering this band. I'm a bit jealous of you all. I've been listening to Crue since 1983. I've heard them all about a million times and I could probably recite the lyrics from the first 5 albums from memory. I've seen them in concert 3 times and back in the 80s I was probably the biggest motley fan on planet earth. They were the standard by which I judged all other music. If they didn't sound like motley then they sucked and I hated them. Fortunately my musical taste is a bit more diverse and refined by this stage in life but I still listen to old school Crue and Shout at the Devil is probably my favorite motley album but Primal Scream is probably my favorite motley song. Thanks for listening , keep rocking, best of luck and always remember, We're Motley Fucking Crue 🤘😈🤘

Rat tailed Jimmy is a second hand hood
    He deals out in Hollywood

    Traded for some powdered goods
Jigsaw Jimmy he's runnin' a gang
But I hear he's doin' okay
Got a cozy little job sells the Mexican mob
    Packages of candy cane
He's the one they call Dr. Feelgood
He's the one that makes ya feel alright
He's the one they call Dr. Feelgood
Cops on the corner always ignore
    Somebody's getting paid
Jimmy's got it wired, law's for hire
Got it make in the shade
Got a little hideaway, does business all day
But at night he'll always be found
    Selling sugar to the sweet

He's the one they call Dr. Feelgood oh yeah
He'll tell you he's the king of these Barrio streets
    Moving up to Shangri La
Came by his wealth as a matter of luck
Says he never broke no law
Two time loser running out of juice
    Time to move out quick
    Heard a rumor going round
    Jimmy's going down
    This time it's gonna stick

Dead Planet Jesus shut the hell up. Look if you want to come here and comment something positive then do so. What’s the point in being a total bum. Dr Feelgood was written about a Virginia doctor who you guessed it sold drugs to Mexicans. I don’t get how that is racist or portraying all Mexicans as drug dealers. Is there such thing as a Mexican drug dealer, of course there is same as their is white dealers, and black ones just because one is being determined as one doesn’t mean the whole race is. There’s levels to it, you can’t just assume everything as racism because it involved other races

The Crue was at their absolute peak at this time. Every show was a sellout and they made nearly 45 million dollars after the tour. < Thats no including album sales and royalties which probably made it over 15 million dollars each. Four high school dropouts who (besides MIck!) who could barely play or sing. Right look, right sound, right songs, right time. I'm so glad to have been in my teens in those days. Probably like being 18 when Elvis exploded outta memphis w/ Jailhouse Rock. Once in a lifetime kinda events.
Their rented used plane's cabin, the "Dr Feelgood', started filling w/ smoke when they left my town (Monroe, La.) I think (NIkki?) said "Oh sh#@, this is how Leonard Skinnard died" and was very freaked out. Fleeman Aviation fixed the problem and they made their next show on time.

Some simply listen to music and others live through it. I consider myself the latter

The song is my joint. When I was a kid, I tried to play the bass notes of this jam on an acoustic guitar. I used to imitate Nikki Sixx in the video. My late grandmother would catch me when she opened my bedroom door and laughed her head off lol ( I miss those days). This song goes hard. Mick Mars hands down one of the most brilliant guitar players to ever exist. Period.
