City Tour of MONTERREY, Mexico 🇲🇽 Santa Lucia, Barrio Antiguo & Macroplaza | Part 1

  • In part one of two I take a look around the historic zone of colonial Monterrey, explore the Macroplaza and also the artificial river of Santa Lucia. Be sure not to miss part two with Manuel who takes great pride in showcasing his glorious city.
    Monterrey is the most developed city in Mexico and has the richest per capita income when compared to the rest of the country. Many rule it out as a travel destination to their own detriment. It is an incredible city with lots of sights, activities and eateries. Consider it next time you are planning an adventure to Mexico.

    Wow Finn the riverside does look pretty cool 😎 at night. Barrio Antiguo looks pretty chill too with the colonial style. Finn stop being a destructican 🤣😂🤣😂. And Macroplaza is WOWSOME with the underground traffic way.

      Hey WITY!! Your Miley comment had me chuckling 😅!! That transition to the basement was an idea I visualised to look slightly better but I rolled with it anyway 😀! Don’t even get me started on the laser beam, it was glorious, and in my opinion gave Monterrey personality 😍.

    I absolutely love this video, I so agree the colonial architecture adds so much character to so many Mexican cities, I love how Mexico has achieved such a lovely balance between prehispanic, colonial and modern architecture and culture. That underground road is a marvel, Auckland May need something like that to help with traffic lol 😂.

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers Gord!!! I agree with you about the balance being on point with the different styles of buildings over the centuries. There’s something about brightly painted colonial buildings that gets me more excited than a traditional mustard yellow or crimson red that is common in San Miguel De Allende. You’ll see in Guanajuato what I mean 😁!! I think Auckland needs more than an underpass 😜!! Thanks for watching and enjoying it amigo!

      BBB!! It’s the entire New Zealand on edge this week on level 4 lockdown. Delta has made it’s way into the country (secretly glad I got out when I did). Lol, magnetgate! 1. I love your sunglasses Finn! Did you get those in New Zealand? 2. 1:17 Not exactly a song I want to be playing while on a cruise haha.. 3. I wanted to visit that artificial river, but when I visited Monterrey. It rained the entire time both times.. 4. You're being too nice, that river definitely needs a clean haha.. 5. Could Monterrey very well be the Venice of Mexico? Quite possibly. 6. So Vamos means let's go to this place, and vamonos means like if I'm going to Monterrey from Mexico City, if I said Vamonos, is it like saying adios Mexico City? Rouse tells me there's no difference, but Google says there is a difference.. 7. 5:13 you have to love these places that are rough around the edges, I've been to pristine cities like Oslo and Copenhagen.. and I've had a more exciting time in shthole looking places in the Philippines.. 8. No idea Miley Cyrus visited Monterrey. Neat. 9. Can't wait for part two Finn!

Haha man don’t lie, I know that romantic music is your style 😂! You gotta go back when it’s not raining - well worth the visit 👍. Vamos and vamanos are exactly the same thing from my understanding. Laughed a lot at your reply, thanks for watching and commenting Zack!!

    Hola Finn - great to see you are in a new town and loving the lay of the land. Just wanted to ask, the old part of the plaza before you showed us 'underground', was that a giant avocado on display in the background? (On the left behind you). Was thinking shades of Ohakune's carrot. Also I was going to have you on about the Titanic pan pipes, but Chris bet me to it! Anyway overall a great new vid on Mexico and good to see you back after a couple of days off. Roll on Part 2 . . .

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hola!!! Good question!! That large thing you saw was an exhibition there in the plaza of things made from rubbish collected in the streets during a giant city clean. Artists then used the rubbish to make art, that giant ball was old electrical cables. Further down there was an elephant made from old TVs from the 90s, old dolls and toys and general rubbish. I didn’t have time to add it into the clip this time but maybe when I go back I could mention the lengths the city goes to in keeping the place clean. The titanic recorder is something I was going to use at Xochimilco but forgot, so thought why not use at Santa Lucia. Thanks for watching!!!! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽

    Really nice video Finn definately there are really few youtubers that come to Monterrey or even the north of Mexico most stay in the centre and down south!

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Gorge! Fully agree with you there, yes the north has just as much, if not MORE to offer than the south / central parts of Mexico. I like it for the fact that all the pansy travellers aren’t in the north because they’re in their safe havens down in San Miguel, Vallarta or Queretaro, (nothing against these places but you get my point). I think we are all getting tired watching retiree channels and idiots giving tips about how shocked they are in Mexico dominate the market for Mexico videos. (The irony is that I’m now on my way to Puerto Escondido for the rest of the year 🤪)!!

      Hey Renee thanks for watching!! You have more reason to return to Mexico now, so you can make time yo explore the north! 😃 I don’t think I did the Macroplaza justice it deserved - it needed a whole video Vlog dedicated solely to itself… next time!! Let the journey to Oaxaca begin…

      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks amigos! The surrounding mountains are SPECTACULAR!! I had mentioned them in this video but it never made the cut. They totally dominate the city from every street or building you are in. I think some are 2000 metres in height, and they are steep as well; some are totally vertical. In part 2 I go up one of them 😃! Gracias for watching.

      Hey Rick!!!! Yeah I did hear that San Antonio also has the artificial river walk as well! I would love to visit San Antonio purely to see the comparison between the one there and this one in Monterrey. Monterrey was extremely hot every day, is it the same up there in Texas during summer?

    • @RickFidelisReed
      @RickFidelisReed 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FinnDelMundoTravel the San Antonio River isn’t man made but is man controlled with locks to prevent flooding of downtown during Texas monsoons.

    • @FinnDelMundoTravel
      @FinnDelMundoTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RickFidelisReed oh wow! Then it’s slightly different from this one in Mexico then. Prior to Santa Lucia, there were homes and vacant lots which were dug up and turned into the man-made river today. There is an anti-flooding prevention system here as well to avoid it spilling over.
