Thanks for being here! We were nervous about moving this series over to its own channel and the feedback has been really awesome. In case you missed the announcement on Twitter ( twitter.com/PodcastDump ) - we've tried to schedule the year so a new episode will be out every month. See you in February!!
The Mexico scene of "oh, don't worry... I'll blend riiiight in" *cut to Raiden, wearing a sombrero and a poncho but still very clearly a cyborg ninja underneath* is one of my favorite moments of all time
In case someone hasn't already mentioned it, "mach" is roughly equivalent to the speed of sound which is about 700 mph (~1130 kph) so mach 23 is roughly 16000 mph (~25900 kph). For reference, the speed needed to break earth's gravity in a rocket is close to mach 20. I think the US Air Force claimed their Aurora stealth fighter could do like mach 13, New York to San Fransisco in about 30 minutes.
Small little correction: Raiden tells Dolzaev that Mistral isn't talking to him because she isn't. She was referring to Armstrong, Dolzaev just happened to be listening in.
Standing here, I realize Monty is just like Chase trying to explain game history. But who's to judge the logical from the illogical when your brain's shut down, I think you both believe that plotholes breed plotholes, but in the end, it has to be this way
I knew about the memes that spawned from this game, but actually hearing from Monty (and the rest of the awesome gang reacting) how it plays out and the literal insane dialogue makes me actively wanna experience this in real time. I beg for them to be working on a sequel.
I love this stuff. Like the KH stuff the incredulity of the two not telling the lore, along with the excitement of the one telling it really is magic. I can't wait for Neil to get his turn.
The fact that I was bingeing Monty's videos and decided to check in on lore dumb and see nothing new just a few minutes before this video dropped just goes to show how hooked I am now
Poor Dolzayev (sp?). He thinks Mistral is confessing her love to him when she's actually talking about Armstrong. And then Raiden calls him a dumbass to add insult to injury.
I was listening to this at work with my wireless headphones, and of course I heard at 1:54:00 when Monsoon says "Cut off one head and ten more grow back, and hey!, that's like 'Low Battery'" when my headphones ran out of power at the perfect time
It's honestly hilarious how MGR: Revengeance is arguably the most ahead of its time game in this franchise especially with the level of memetic appeal it has (in both senses of the word)
As someone who had my first true foray into Metal Gear through Lore Dump, this answers a very important question of mine: Just a few weeks ago I was watching a video essay about MGS2, heard Raiden's voice for the very first time, and immediately thought, "AXEL?!?!?! HE'S AXEL!!!!! DOES CHASE KNOW???" But didn't want to be a weirdo and ask. Turns out I didn't need to XD Anyhow, this game is absolutely bonkers ridiculous in all the best kinds of ways and I'm so happy you guys covered it. Thank you for another fantastic video!!!
I have to thank you Monty for showing me this gem. After listening to this I finally got myself a copy of Revengeance and played the first section of the game. And boy had I a blast. With this episode in the back of my head it was even more fun. And to be honest... you were so right. Fighting the Metal Gear with the Metal-Song, slicing everything is just pure joy. THANK YOU
Last year I had laser eye surgery and couldn't look at screens for at least some days while I recovered. Lore Dump was my company during that week and while I had been following before, ever since that I'm pretty sure I listen to the whole backlog at least once every 2 months. I'm so glad to see a new episode and can't wait for what comes next.
Just want to elaborate on the setting of Abkhazia. It's actually a real country, depending on who you ask, as it serves as a Russian puppet state that broke away from Georgia after the 2008 Russo-Georgian war. It's only recognized by 5 other countries and is seen by many other countries to be a thinly veiled excuse for Russian Imperialism. The conflict around this has been ongoing from the dissolution of the Soviet Union and is still unresolved, though currently on hold due to a seize fire and the Ukraine war,
Love your lore dumbs and all of the great storys you tell and all the funny comments. Props to your "Ich liebe Kapitalismus." From Doktor! This was great German!
aw Neil, my dopamine machine is broken too. But at 42 I promise you aren't level capped. You might have to respecc a few times (or a lot) and it gets really grindy and weird after 30, but there are more levels, more skills and more dopamine hits coming for you.
So, a quick skim through the comments suggests nobody else has touched on this, and I think that a slightly greater exploration of the idea of the original idea of the meme is warranted. (I'll come back and edit this out if it turns out that you do touch on it later in the video, this is written as of the beginning of the Monsoon bit.) I was originally exposed to the current (or, well, early-2000s-incarnation of the current) and original definition of 'meme' contemporaneously, and found the whole idea fascinating - and while it's kind of been discredited as a theory (as in, an explanatory and predictive framework), I think the meme as a concept is a really cool explanatory analogy. Basically, the idea of the word 'meme' was chosen to create an analogue to the word 'gene' - what genes are to biology, the concept goes, memes are to culture - each are, effectively, the fundamental unit of *propagated* information. See, in biological systems, information is coded in DNA, yes, but a single DNA base pair in isolation is meaningless, arguably even more than a single letter is. It's only when they're assembled in sequence (and 'read' by the transcriptional/translational machinery of the cell) that they become meaningful, when they are 'expressed' in the form of an amino acid chain whose sequence is dictated by the DNA sequence consulted in its creation (i.e., a protein, aka the primary functional apparatus of the cell). The thing is, though, that while the protein is the version of that information in practice, it's not actually the version that gets *propagated* from organism to organism (i.e. through reproduction) - that's the informational molecule, the DNA. And it's these genes, and the efficacy of their protein products (and the specific variations thereof that individual organisms carry) that are 'selected' for or against by the constraints of the environment (through either surviving or not surviving to reproduce).Through many generations of this, a population of organisms would change its overall gene composition at a population scale, to reflect that the organisms better adapted to that environment reproduced more often than those that didn't. Dawkins' idea, then, was that, if one postulated a unit of *cultural* propagation, analogous to a gene, one could think of cultures as analogues to populations in population genetics. Such environments would be subject to different selective pressures as well, and the units of cultural information that were best suited to such environments would be transmitted/reproduced more often within this cultural population than those that weren't. Also like genes, these units of cultural information were not immutable things, but were subject to propagation with modification, with the rate of modification (presumably) being subject to control based on the nature of the propagated unit in question and also the selective environment (much as in nature). For my part, I especially like the whole analogy between gene and its corresponding protein and a meme (in writing or whatever else) and what the individual who receives that meme interprets it to mean. (For example, one can write the same word - e.g. 'elf' - and provoke quite different images in the mind of the reader, depending on what time of year it is (Christmas elves?), what media properties were most formative for them (LoTR elves? D&D elves? Warcraft elves? D&D elves, but Japanese (i.e. by way of Record of Lodoss War)?), etc. Heck, there's even a story about how elves in Japanese media acquired the look they did, which relies heavily on concepts of population genetics, because as far as I can tell the explanatory logic genuinely does work the exact same way! ...yeah, maybe I like the analogy more than I ought to, but I think that at the least it's an interesting thing to think about. Hopefully this does more good than harm in understanding it.
I think, we need a mini lore dump on Vanquish now, after MGR it could get insanely good. Also the replaced cybernetic eye is his right, and if I REmember correctly the eyepatch is filled with sensors, like in Nier Automata.
This is good and all, but I feel like some extra details would clear up something of the stuff here, like the fact sam's sword was indefinitely sheathed and probably wouldn't even work if it managed to come out before it being unlocked. The fact that raidens sword isn't just a sword, but is a high frequency blade that forces things apart on a molecular level, and sam's sword while deactivated would probably just suck.
YESSSSSS! I've been wait for this and it's here, thank you guys for this. A Yakuza Lore Dump would be brilliant but also a massive undertaking so I completely understand being unnerved by it but it would be dope. A Devil May Cry Lore Dump would alse be amazing.
So there I was, planning to casually watch Monty's new video on Batman throughout the week when BAM! A new Lore Dump video emerges. Now, here I am bingeing the first Lore Dump of the new year. Life never goes how you expect but all roads lead home. Missed you guys!
This game is such insane, wild, fun. My favorite element of the game were the additional costumes especially the cyborg ninja from MGS1 and the sombrero poncho combo
Also, none of these are exosuits, except for Sam. Many of the main characters and all the major and minor enemies in this game are cyborgs with mechanical bodies. Raiden himself is just a head from the upper jaw up.
Lore dump has been my "white noise machine " for sleeping the past few months, i don't know if your annalitics shows it but if you were wonder why some from NZ keeps watching the same videos and now I get to add this to the rotation after I watched it :) can't wait for the rest of the 2023 dumps !
Dear Monty, are you considering to fullfill the promise you made in the second episode of the MGS Lore Dump anytime soon? I just cant wait for you to explain Chase how deep the lore of Death Stranding actually is. Also great content mate, keep it up!
It WILL happen! Just not this year. Chase has recently started playing it (he’s very early and I don’t think he’ll get far) but even if he does beat it, Neil hasn’t played it at all and isn’t going to. So one to think about in 2024 if Kingdom Hearts doesn’t take over!
As I'm at work I just wanna say how much you guys made me laugh thus far(I'm at Mr. Lightning Bolt rn) and look very much forward to your other videos in the future. Well done guys, now i must be off to continue this entertaining watch
What timing lol I just finished relistening to the kh Lore Dumps and was like I wonder when they will do the next one.. what a treat! im sick today and I'm gonna listen to this while I rest! Thanks again Chonteal yall are great.
I haven't seen the whole thing yet, but it seems like a missed opportunity to mention that the fluid being extracted are electrolytes, which is something people consider synonymous with Gatorade, or that it's doktor who wants Raiden to cut off their arms. P.S: I'm pretty sure the eye patch is supposed to be a low time constraint cybernetic enhancement, which I'm sure is just their excuse for giving him a cool eye patch
Know very little about the metal gear franchise and even less about this game, but you guys made me laugh. Thank you for that. You made the entirety of this two and half hour video very entertaining. I think one of my favourite things said was the 'adult cloud stick' 😂
The best part of this game is the soundtrack. The game itself is purely balls to the wall lunacy, but its sooo fun. Its like the Michael Bay Transformers or the Zach Snyder's Sucker Punch of video games.
Also, I just got my D&D DM hooked on the Kingdom Hearts Lore Dumps, and he thanked me for introducing him to something that helped him understand Kingdom Hearts not at all, but that instead made him want to be friends with three (occasionally) drunken nerds in Scotland. XD Made me giggle, so I figured I’d pass it on to you. Excellent work, as usual, Lore Lads!! Thanks for brightening my day :)
Idk if ppl have said it in the year since but its confirmed through an optional codec call with Kevin that Snake passed away already, as they refer to him in the past tense.
I haven't had a chance to watch yet, and it might take me a couple of days, but I'm so stoked about this I had to drop a comment just to say thanks!!! I was so sad when I caught up on all the previous Lore Dumps, can't wait to binge this one too :D
This was a great lore dump. I played it for once years ago and loved it, and this made me want to replay it. Having never played Alan wake I’m hype for Februarys episode. Also Chase, play more of Death Stranding, Neil play more kingdom hearts. Both are excellent games. “The American Meme” should totally be a thing as well as Adult Cloud Stick. Can’t wait til the next one. Until then this adult juice is for you. Cheers boys
Yay, more Lore Dump! I like what’s lined up for the future. I hope you guys also consider the Nier games. Really crazy story, although I know that someone has to have not played them for it to work
I'd like to not that raidens eye glow red everytime he gains eletro lights, and it briefly glew red when he blade wolf attacked. Then again Raidens eyes has too different types of glows one being his iris, and the other being his pupil
I've enabled notifications now, but God TH-cam let me forget about Lore Dump and I'm upset about it. Can't wait to catch up on what I missed, hope you guys are well!
Something I think was missed here is that Armstrong's "We're not so different, you and I." speech isn't about Raiden's viciousness or anything. Think back to Denver. Raiden decides he's going to fight for what he believes in, to hell with working for Maverick, to hell with the law, He's going to fight to make what He believes is a better world. And that is the ONLY way he can save those kids. The law is defending the entirely legal atrocities of World Marshall. And that is EXACTLY what Armstrong wants everyone to do. People fighting Purely for their beliefs, the strong enforcing their will on the world, not constrained by the masses of the weak. He thinks the Only way to take down terrible people who work within the law is to scrap the law and let people just lynch Bezos or whatever. Of course, Raiden isn't stupid enough to think that's a good idea. Physical combat prowess is not a good way to measure the value of a person's morals! The Amazon Death Squads would slaughter anyone who tries to unionize, and morally good super-soldiers like Raiden are Clearly the minority. (Also Jet Stream Sam breaking down from Armstrong kicking his ass is another example of Armstrong's beliefs. As is Sam fighting Raiden to decide who's right.) The ending also carries on with this and the whole "Memes" thing as Raiden seems like he will continue to embody Armstrong's beliefs, fighting for what he thinks is right, not for what's legal or what's profitable.
Although I do think this game is smart, it is also very concerning to me how much it resonates with the alt right. I think to them the game ends after the fight with Armstrong because he has passed on the ultimate meme to Raiden "might makes right". Whatever Raiden does with it is irrelevant at that point because the game makes it feel inevitable. Its like a natural law, and thats all they take away from it.
I am just gonna point out that revengance is an outdated word that was at least in Merriam Websters dictionary in 1913. It just means vengeance and revenge basically. Guys please have some empathy for the people who are not used to to living in a collective a bunch of countries where someone 15 feet down the road is speaking an entirely new language and accent. :) If people have issues with Worcestershire Sauce then there sure are people who will have issues with Guyanese Creole English as well,I know I couldn't keep up all the time without at least one subtitle. Especially when the voice actor slips around with his accent and goes away from the Creole he is tying to speak when he speeds up.
Now...I am not sure what the next lore dump could have been. The tease just wasn't clear enough. Going to have to rewatch and listen a bit closer this time. Thank you guys for all your dedication for these videos, they are amazing!
Chase needs to change his name to Chay-os, because my mans energy is so beautiful chaotic 😂😂 The amount of derailing in this is so much fun. I had toget on a flight to Iowa on Tuesday and ive still listened to this like 4-5 times already. Keep up the beautiful work, cannot wait for ---- ----!!🙏🏼
Just done with the KH rewatch. Honestly, was hoping for a The wolrd Ends With You Video, but I guess it was about time for a writter rotation. On to the Cyborgs we go.
Idk how much effort you put into the visuals cuz this is like a podcast, but would it be possible to include animated gifs alongside the screenshots. I'm sure it could help explain some scenes better/provide context and won't take the same effort as rendering full videos. Edit: For example at 29:15 having a gif of blademode rather than a screenshot would save alot of explaining for how to visualise it working.
🎵RULES OF NATURE!! 🎵🎶🎵 Everyone loves to mock the word "revengeance", but it's been a word since at least 1913. Disappointed you didn't mention ninja cats and Raiden catching knives with his heels xD
Jesus, this game is a trip from start to end. I doubt something this cool and self-aware could be made in our neutered culture today, glad it got made when it did.
Naomi's last name is Hunter, as in Jaeger, as in Frank Jaeger, Grey Fox. Sorry for so many comments, i dont mean t be a pedant, just a huge fan of Metal Gear. Love the content from you!
You got alot right, as usual Monty, but you missed a few things. However, that might be a me thing. When Mistral spoke her final words, she was referring to Armstrong despite him not hearing the call. When Armstrong was talking about what reasons people would fight for in his "New America," he meant that if someone wanted to go to war/fight over something, it would be for that person's beliefs, and nothing else. Not for any reason that someone else gave them, just their own. And Armstrong's final words, why did you cut off what he said after proclaiming Jack as his inheritor, but before him saying that they were kindred spirits? I honestly have no idea why you did that. Same goes for Raiden/Jack's final words of the game. He has his own war to fight
Also for Tecumseh, the operation is named after the Shawnee chief and his famous curse (also known as the Curse of Tippecanoe) which was that every president elected in a year divisible by 20 would die in office. This held true until Reagan, although there were assassinations attempted on both Reagan and Bush.
Thanks for being here! We were nervous about moving this series over to its own channel and the feedback has been really awesome. In case you missed the announcement on Twitter ( twitter.com/PodcastDump ) - we've tried to schedule the year so a new episode will be out every month.
See you in February!!
This is super late but y'all should check out Max0r and his review of this game, after this I feel like you'd get a kick out of it :)
The Mexico scene of "oh, don't worry... I'll blend riiiight in" *cut to Raiden, wearing a sombrero and a poncho but still very clearly a cyborg ninja underneath* is one of my favorite moments of all time
The follow up "A mariachi?" Just raise a so many questions
Monty: "Memes! The DNA of the soul!"
Chase: (screams in actual fear)
In case someone hasn't already mentioned it, "mach" is roughly equivalent to the speed of sound which is about 700 mph (~1130 kph) so mach 23 is roughly 16000 mph (~25900 kph). Small little correction: Raiden tells Dolzaev that Mistral isn't talking to him because she isn't. She was referring to Armstrong, Dolzaev just happened to be listening in.
Im very glad someone pointed this out it's actually fascinating how different people can see the same scene
2:35:00 Chase in Terra's voice "One day... I will make things right."
Standing here, I realize Monty is just like Chase trying to explain game history. But who's to judge the logical from the illogical when your brain's shut down, I think you both believe that plotholes breed plotholes, but in the end, it has to be this way
Beautiful 🥲
Wonderful ❤
Holy shit MGR Revengeance is deep? I had literally no idea that it was this level of satire of the American Military Industrial Complex.
I knew about the memes that spawned from this game, but actually hearing from Monty (and the rest of the awesome gang reacting) how it plays out and the literal insane dialogue makes me actively wanna experience this in real time. I beg for them to be working on a sequel.
Never happening unfortunatley
I love this stuff. Like the KH stuff the incredulity of the two not telling the lore, along with the excitement of the one telling it really is magic. I can't wait for Neil to get his turn.
Came for the Kingdom Hearts, stayed for the MEMES J A C K

I'm late, but I'm sure that honor still goes to MGS2.
As a Hispanic let me tell you this I wore the pancho and sombrero throughout the game once you unlock it
It’s the best
And plunge us in the flames; or from above
Should intermitted vengeance arm again
His red right hand to plague us?
Paradise lost by John Milton
Please, please, please. Go back and redo the Resident Evil and Metal Gear games on Lore Dump. They deserve this updated, detailed format.
As someone who had my first true foray into Metal Gear through Lore Dump, this answers a very important question of mine: Just a few weeks ago I was watching a video essay about MGS2, heard Raiden's voice for the very first time, and immediately thought, "AXEL?!?!?! "Honey, it's time for your 2.5 hour long Lore Dump video!"
"Yes dear."
So excited y'all are back, bro! Let's go!!
I’m so excited for Neil’s first lore dump!
Thank you! It'll probably be a total carcrash but that'll probably be fun!
@@LoreDump you got this!! I know you’ll do your best!
Dear Monty,

And finally, he does answer Boris.
"I've got my own war to fight."
Love the content, again
The funniest thing to me is that you have a year of lore dumps planned out and by the end kingdom hearts will still be like half of them.
Also, I just got my D&D DM hooked on the Kingdom Hearts Lore Dumps, and he thanked me for introducing him to something that helped him understand Kingdom Hearts not at all, but that instead made him want to be friends with three (occasionally) drunken nerds in Scotland. XD
Made me giggle, so I figured I’d pass it on to you.
Excellent work, as usual, Lore Lads!! Thanks for brightening my day :)
Idk if ppl have said it in the year since but its confirmed through an optional codec call with Kevin that Snake passed away already, as they refer to him in the past tense.
before I get started, hope the boys had a great holiday season. perfect stuff to listen to at work
This was a FABULOUS thing to wake up to!
So, so glad to see you lads back at it, you’ve got excellent, cozy vibes which I appreciate greatly. :)
The day you guys do a Yakuza lore dump is the day my life is complete.
I haven't had a chance to watch yet, and it might take me a couple of days, but I'm so stoked about this I had to drop a comment just to say thanks!!! I was so sad when I caught up on all the previous Lore Dumps, can't wait to binge this one too :D
The boys are back for a new year! Been really looking forward to this!
As is Sam fighting Raiden to decide who's right.)
The ending also carries on with this and the whole "Memes" thing as Raiden seems like he will continue to embody Armstrong's beliefs, fighting for what he thinks is right, not for what's legal or what's profitable.
I Can't wait for your guys next Lore Dump
Thanks For this great video!
I was just checking yesterday to see if you guys made another!! So happy to see this
"MEME'S ARE STORED IN THE SOUL"
*an edgy anime boy*
I am just gonna point out that revengance is an outdated word that was at least in Merriam Websters dictionary in 1913.
It just means vengeance and revenge basically.
Guys please have some empathy for the people who are not used to to living in a collective a bunch of countries where someone 15 feet down the road is speaking an entirely new language and accent. :)
If people have issues with Worcestershire Sauce then there sure are people who will have issues with Guyanese Creole English as well,I know I couldn't keep up all the time without at least one subtitle.
Especially when the voice actor slips around with his accent and goes away from the Creole he is tying to speak when he speeds up.
48:17 Abkhazia *IS* a real state, 1 of 2 breakaway states from Georgia that was created by the Russian invasion of 2008.
Now...I am not sure what the next lore dump could have been. The tease just wasn't clear enough. Going to have to rewatch and listen a bit closer this time.
Thank you guys for all your dedication for these videos, they are amazing!
I was in the middle of rebingeing the Kingdom Hearts Lore Dumps when I saw this pop up on my feed, and immediately beelined here.
Haven't started but I'm so excited for this
Woooooooooo baby this is what I've been waiting for. The boys are back in town
these videos are literally amazing
You guys 🥺🥺🥺🥺 I've missed you so much. I'm still in the ad and I feel like I'm about to cry 😭😂
Chase needs to change his name to Chay-os, because my mans energy is so beautiful chaotic 😂😂 The amount of derailing in this is so much fun. I had toget on a flight to Iowa on Tuesday and ive still listened to this like 4-5 times already. Keep up the beautiful work, cannot wait for ---- ----!!🙏🏼
Late to the party due to a hectic week but I'm gonna be one of those here for every one. Cheers lads y'all gonna be a staple.
Nice, I was just thinking about this series. Happy New Year!
Everyone loves to mock the word "revengeance", but it's been a word since at least 1913.
Disappointed you didn't mention ninja cats and Raiden catching knives with his heels xD
I’m so glad to hear more of Neil without having to listen to the kingdom hearts playlist for the 10th time.
Rules of nature baby!
Neil saying he is level capped at 28,
Me, 27 “well I guess I have one more perk choice left” 🤷🏻♂️
It’s OK Neil my dopamine circuit is busted too.
They’re back!!!
I am so happy the boys are back 💜
Welcome back boys. Here’s to a great 2023.
Chase blame Yourself for this:
Yakuza chronological lore dump WHEN?!
GREAT way to start off my day. Thanks, gents!
VERY much enjoy this style of video more for this channel. The "Chase" style over the "wikipedia" style.
Jesus, this game is a trip from start to end. I doubt something this cool and self-aware could be made in our neutered culture today, glad it got made when it did.
Yaaay, more Lore Dump!
great video as ever!!!

Naomi's last name is Hunter, as in Jaeger, as in Frank Jaeger, Grey Fox.
Sorry for so many comments, i dont mean t be a pedant, just a huge fan of Metal Gear. Love the content from you!
As someone with a katana fetish, I agree with Monty. Guns are wack, Swords are all the way.
Son of sam, I see what you did there
You got alot right, as usual Monty, but you missed a few things.
Despite saying all of this, I've enjoyed your lore dump, like normal, but it falls a little short to me this time around. Keep up the work though
Here we go
Amazing Lore Dump as always, if possible mention the DOOMP just to get their reactions mwahahaha
For the record; the eye patch bandana is a fancy visor ala nier automa
I loved when I watched the speed run of this during SGDQ (I think?) This is such a wild game.
19:05 Jack the Lover... also the ripper ;) :/
George sprinkles in Guyanese Creole in his dialogue, as that's where he's from.
The Yakuza lore dump would be awesome
Mach 23 is 28400 kph or 17647 mph, nowhere near the speed of light but easily enough to get from denver to islamabad in less than 30 minutes
Also for Tecumseh, the operation is named after the Shawnee chief and his famous curse (also known as the Curse of Tippecanoe) which was that every president elected in a year divisible by 20 would die in office. This held true until Reagan, although there were assassinations attempted on both Reagan and Bush.
Also UT is not an Ivy League school, although I can confirm our football players can reattach their limbs
