Everything Steve said in this video is totally true. The carb is cheaper than purchasing the parts. The needles with rubber tips will give you a problem in leaking and if you can't fix it, just buy a new carb instead.

Steve from Australia here (see comment below). It worked (Honda mower - cleaning needle seat etc)!!! All working. Will now look for a video of how I can get my Stilhl edger (KM56RC) working. It won't rev up and I didn't know there was such a thing as a spark Suppressor, so that might be the problem. Thanks again.

Today I have just fixed this problem on the carburator on a Honda GCV engine.
I did not believe the guy who told me, that there was fuel in the oil.
The cumbustion chamber and spark plug was also very sooty.
Seen your video, I understand, that the leaking valve could cause the problem.
After cleaning the carburator carefully, adjusted the mixturescrew ½ a turn out for a richer mixture, mounted new airfilter the engine now runs great and do not surge anymore.
Thanks for this video just at the right time for me.

This fixed my mower! Thanks so much!
I have the Troy Bilt push mower with a Honda GCV 160 engine. The problems started with the engine running rough, the governor having to adjust a lot, and bumps when mowing would make it choke out and die. So I started by changing the throttle spring and governor spring. Didn't help. I then noticed the mower was using way more gas than normal, then I found fuel in the air filter, did some googling, and found this video. Totally worked! Thanks! I always shut the gas valve off when I'm done mowing, so I think that's why i didn't notice the dripping fuel in the filter. Just sharing what i experienced in case it helps someone else figure out their mower's symptoms too.

Steve, you are the man! I watched a bunch of other TH-cam clips before I found yours that exactly described the problem I had with gas flowing freely out of the carburetor of my Honda HR21 lawnmower. Removing the bowl, float , and needle and cleaning them along with the needle seat fixed the problem. The only thing I did differently is perform the repair while the carb was still attached to the mower, leaning the mower on its side for better visibility. Cleaning the needle seat with a skinny cotton swab was a blind effort but I figured if it didn't work, THEN I would remove the whole carb. I tested the repair while the bowl was off, moving the float with my finger to start and stop gas flow and confirmed success. Then I put the bowl back on. Because I did not remove the whole carb, the repair only took about thirty minutes. Thank you so much!

Thank you. Replaced my leaking fuel hoses only to then find fuel pouring out on the engine side of the carb - thought I must have damaged the gaskets. However watched a youtube video on top 5 causes of mower leaks. Gaskets not mentioned but carb was. Then your great video featuring the C’Honda carb on my cheap mower. Took the bowl off, turned the fuel on, and tested the float - the pin was sticking - a few manual movements of the pin with the fuel on seemed to flush it through. Mower fixed, lawn cut. Bravo for very clear video.

Like your videos and I sit on side lines and only comment if I feel it might contribute.
I was stumped with my leaking carburetor on my Honda GXV160 after the throttle cable had detached at the throttle body. I reattached it, only to discover that the mower would not start.
This was about 3 weeks ago. Ever since I've had several attempts to sort it without success. I thought it might be a fuel issue and found your advice on cleaning carbs. I followed it and I striped it down and cleaned it. Reinstalled it and it would not start and now it was leaking fuel like a sieve. I had not installed the fuel bowl correctly and quickly sorted that.
However it just didn't want to start and now there was a steady fuel leak. I tighten everything up and it reduced, but still overnight it was leaving a decent pool of fuel. I thought I must have stuffed up with the cleaning of the carb. So after three or four times pulling the carb off checking an reattaching it was no better. I called my local dealer for price of new carb ....wait for it....NZD circa $140 that's around $86 USD. I didn't like that idea and rather than support local I decided to buy one from Ali Express to try. About $35 delivered with gaskets ,fuel filter and fuel line (too short). Not too much of a loss if it didn't work out.
Once it arrived I took the old carb off and installed the new one. Still leaking fuel, but only about 10ml overnight. But , still not starting. Then with the help of a mechanically minded friend after running through all the standard checks again, we finally discovered a small hole the size of a pin head on the fuel line by the carb end of the line. At some stage during maintenance I had pinched it with pliers too hard stopping the fuel from coming out of the hose. Now, once the fuel line was fixed it no longer leaks, that appears to have been the problem in the first place.
However the engine would not start.
Checking the spark plug again it had good spark - so eliminated that , what else could it be? Well the actual issue was the throttle cable and on my mower it is only adjustable at the engine end. It turns out a millimeter means all the difference between engaging the choke or not. It took quite a bit of mucking around bending the arm that activates the choke and then getting it adjusted so the stop switch would could also be activated. I never expected that it could headache.
It runs just fine and because it baffled me , I figured that maybe someone else may have had a similar issue and not figured it out. Turns out it was more like a 4 beer job...
    Keep up the great videos

Steve, love your site and your channel! I recently received a power washer with a Briggs engine that wouldn't start from a friend. Someone worked on it before it was given to me. I gave it a small blast of starting fluid to make sure it would want to run, it did. I gave it some gas and made sure fueI fed to the carb, pulled the carburetor off and made sure there were no obstructions through the jet and other orifices, which were clear. At first I was perplexed but then I though about how the fuel is fed and inspected the main jet nut and there I found the obstruction. Cleaned it out with some carb cleaner, reassembled, and now I have a running power washer! This was far from the first carb I've worked on and it made me think, how many others have the same problem and just buy new when they cant find the problem. Thanks for the great content and please keep them coming! Try a Yuengling, it helps me!

I thought for sure this fix would solve my issue, as it seems to describe my problem exactly. Mine started leaking this way after I removed and completely cleaned out my carb and reinstalled it (was getting engine surging).
I performed the procedures in this video, and even did the test before reassembly, which worked just fine. After reassembling, I left it to sit for a while, seemed fine. After about an hour or 2 I came back and fuel was coming out the intake area by the air filter again.

I thought I cleaned this good but never took that pin off and check this. Though it never smoked before I messed with the carb...I don't wanna buy a new mower atm, I know it's a pos but the motor runs good . . I've ran it for 1hr hopefully I didn't damage the rings. Also the spark plug was really chard..😢

Thanks Steve, excellent video and easily understood, good similarity between carb and WC float. I'm having exactly this problem on my first day back gardening. Will give it a go tomorrow. Lucky I have a spare mower!

@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon Thanks again Steve, I wondered why fuel was seeping out of my air filter, I had put the needle in upside down! Working perfectly now and you saved me a few quid, new carb was between 50 - £70.

I went, and got me one of those "old style " (pump with your thumb) oil cans. I did my 50/50 mixture, and I wrote on the can " Brother Mike's penetrating oil", "SHAKE WELL !"
    Thanks Steve!

I need to know where to order the And expensive carb kit you spoke about on the video about leaking gas after cleaning the carburetor. The needle to the flow and the little rubber piece. I’ve checked with Briggs & Stratton they only sell the little metal needle

Since I bought my five acres of headaches, I've had to purchase different types of equipment to help me along through the years, I've become very proficient in the carburetor department, and it's XX with lime and salt.

Toilet is actually called a water closet. Most of the old ones had the tank way up by the ceiling.
