If you were my neighbor and I needed you to fix any power equipment, I'd make sure that the oil, filters, etc were pristine before dropping it off too!
The leaking needle and seat were a blessing in disguise because this way the fuel was always turned off and the system run out of fuel. Nothing kills this kind of stuff more than bad gas.
Good work as usual and I am always impressed by mechanics who use the proper quality tool properly like hollow ground screwdrivers in carbs and gear wrenches. It has been my experience that a leaking carb is caused by a flooded float or dirty/damaged needle/seat. Sometimes just dropping the bowl and a Q-tip is all that was needed.
Great video. Last week I picked up a Landa pressure washer 2700 psi with a Honda GX 200. Owner said it worked but needed a tune up. Brought it home, checked it over, the engine oil was clean, pump oil was clean , fuel was fresh. Started on the second pull. I hooked up the hose and wand and it worked like it was brand new. Best part is the owner didn't want any money. He just wanted it gone. Your neighbors machine is definitely a professional model. Glad you fixed the issue.
I have the exact same Honda engined pressure washer and it is a beast. The pressure of the water coming out of the wand will flat out blast away any dust, dirt, old clear coat on your car and anything else you can think of. I've had mine for over 20 years and the engine runs like new. The carburetor needs some attention now.
Even with pressure washers less powerful than that, if you're not careful you can take the paint itself off. My son's pressure washer (same PSI, a bit less volume next size smaller Honda engine) can cut some types of brick with a fine point nozzle that's too close to the action.
Great video of GX-390 carb. maintenance. I anticipate that at some time in the future I will be having to clean the one I own. Great reference material. Video saved. Thanks
Great job, quick FYI when you have the plastic choke lever off the stub on it can be inserted in the fuel line, instead of squeezeing the line with needle nose vise grips, I learned this from a honda service manual
I've been watching videos here on The Depression, Thirtiez Farming, Droughts etc. To have thirteen horses then would have been astonishing. Now a thirteen horse power washer used, perhaps, twice a year . . . !
My Honda powered pressure washer does the exact same thing. I’ve been meaning to service the carb but I haven’t gotten around to it yet, I always shut the fuel valve off and let it run dry anyway.
Thanks for the video, very helpful in helping with my Honda tiller and same setup as far as the carb. goes. Part #1 is done, I'll work on it again tomorrow and assemble everything. Hopefully my fuel leak will be gone, either way it's going to be nice and clean now.
The float is sticking so he needs to give the carburetor a good cleaning and that should be fine but I think it will work out for your neighbor will be happy with the system and it will work for a long time
I just got the same washer from an old man that said it wouldn't start. I was able to narrow it down to and junk air filter and a bad spark plug. By the way great video.
For the ultimate pressure washer try to find a Vortexx, I've bought a few used and I just can't stomach selling them... I had a similar Karcher with a 200 cc motor, basically the same thing only 50% the size. Great quality carts but now I prefer the open designs since their easier to work on.
Not sure if anyone has said but the choke lever doubles up as a fuel hose block, you pop it in the end of the fuel hose when you remove it to stop it leaking.
Jim, maybe some time you could do an electric start conversion with dual charging circuit on a Honda or clone engine? I prefer Honda engines on my equipment as they can be a lot easier to service and parts are readily available. Honda is the engine of choice for rental equipment companies. Subaru Robin is a close second.
I’m no certified mechanic and I own this motor on a black max generator and a Honda hrx217 mower and can’t get over the simplicity of working on them. They last when taken care of. I’m a Honda fan now
Unless he's using it commercially, I'd expect the air filter & oil to be clean; low hours and clean environment when running. Much like snow throwers (when stored inside).
I have a question I have a GX 200 motor clean the carburetor out everything put it back together the idle was very strong aggressive, so I went ahead and adjusted the governor motor calm down. What causes that where you have to adjust the governor and get away from the factory settings, and when you do have to adjust the governor, do you need to do anything to the carburetor to put it back to factory settings? Let me know if you can help. Thanks.
My gx 160 runs great for like 5 mins, after that carb starts flooding my engine, gas pouring out of the jet. If I let it sit for like 20 mins it's back to normal and does the same thing again and again. Changed float and needle, no effect. Any help appreciated
I'm trying to rebuild a gx120 that sat for years outdoors with fuel in it. bowl was corroded along with tank. The main jet stripped so I'm unable to remove the main nozzle tube. Am I screwed?

Hello! I have a current generator, Honda gx 390 engine, it starts and works only with the shock pulled. I cleaned the carburetor, I didn't solve the problem, what could it be? Thanks
Hi there! I have the same engine. Only that my gas was leaking from the sediment cup. I switched around the filter with the o ring. Filter, o ring then the sediment cup. Is it ok?
Don't quote me on this, but in the sediment bowl, when you took it off I thought there was supposed to be a screen from the carb to the bowl, it fits in the groove in the carb?
What size(s) rubber fuel line is normally used on generators? I have a Yamaha EF6300SDi generator and no where in their shop repair manual does it mention fuel line/hose size. I would like to buy in bulk and not pieces that they over charge you for. Great videos, thanks for sharing.

Please Help. I have a Honda 390 GX engine a few weeks ago I put gas in it by mistake that had water in the gas and it shut off. I drained the tank and dried it and drained the gas in the carb. It’s running fine but if if I drive down the road with my carb wants to leak gas I put a new o ring in the bowl but it is still leaking. Anyone please help.
Some pumps you can repair. See if you can find pump part kits. The price for pumps is usually such that if you can install it yourself it's worth it, but if you have to pay someone else to fix it, it isn't.
@@fromagefrizzbizz9377 Yep! I figured I might have to find a new pump that fits the engine shaft. Many of these foreign brands are hard to get parts for. I think that's why they sell them so cheap.
hi mate, wondered if you could help me.. Got a new generator.. Ive set it to 51hz with no load.. 230v.... but as soon as i put a load on it, the voltage drops to 105v and wont power the item.. Its a 6kw generator, i put a 2k heater on it to test... Speed 1 of the heater drops voltage down to 200v and barely produces heat.. but then Speed 2 of the heater, drops voltage to 100v and heater stops.. Ive replaced the AVR, and set that potentiometer to 230v, aswell as Governor screw to 51hz no load... But the second i put a decent load on it.. Voltage drops way too much and stops powering the item. Any help would be appreciated.
The AVR would have been my first guess. When under load, is the engine speed good? Would check that there is not a loose wire down in the generator head or up in the outlet box. Otherwise it might be an insulation failure in the stator. To test that, you would have to isolate all the windings and check the ohms on each. Then check each winding to each other and to ground to make sure nothing is making a connection where it shouldn't.
You can usually tell by just giving the float a shake. If it can't float, you'll feel/hear fuel or some other crud sloshing. Plastic floats RARELY develop leaks. It's usually old metal ones. You'll often find with old engines that have metal floats, they'll substitute plastic floats in later versions and parts lists.

What does the spring really do on the throttle or governor spring if it had a hard link and hooked on the same spots
The spring that runs between the carburetor and governor arm is to remove play in the linkage. If the governor rod has play then the engine will surge.

It has a sediment bowl to catch/filter out any small pieces of debris.

The top Plate of the on and Off Tap Has a Rubber Seal Which ""Will Cause"" The Problem!! Leak!!
what if the fuel switch is leaking gas itself when turning off
I believe if you look at the parts diagram you can order replacement parts for the fuel valve. Otherwise a new carb would fix it.
