Hi there! This DIY chick does appreciate your video. You got right to the point and you were not long-winded. This is exactly what I needed. Too bad I didn't know the issue before the holiday weekend! My lawn is only half-mowed now, but at least I have a solution. Thanks for sharing with us!
Always change the oil. I would have put the carb in my ultrasonic cleaner and put a new seat in the carb. Have had good luck with the ultrasonic cleaners. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely change the oil especially on a machine you do not know much about. Great looking mower and should make someone a good runner to last a long time as long as they put it away correctly. Thanks for sharing.
Sad part is when I was a kid my dad always had the old 2 stroke lawn boys that I used when I would kowe my parents lawn since I was 7 yrs old. Wouldn't have to change the oil people that don't change the oil on a regular basis be better for them. Those lawn boys always liked them simple to start always started right up.
On this carburetor, the primer uses the tiny channel under the gasket to push air, so be careful with gasket sealant/maker there. A trick is to double up the gasket.
Well done video. For those of us who know how to do it, it’s a piece of cake. For someone, looking for help, perfect. If the primer base gasket won’t seal, put a narrow strip of packing tape over the air channel on the primer base. That’ll seal it. Yes I’d would have changed the oil. Nice job.
I would’ve warmed it up first then changed the oil. Funny coincidence, I just picked up this exact mower from the curb last week. Rebuilt the carb (including a new seat), replaced the four wheel bearings in the rear wheels and put good used wheels on front. Great little trimming mower!
Changing the oil is a more cheaper and practical solution than replacing an engine! Also an ultrasonic cleaner is the way to go if the carburetor is in that kind of condition! Otherwise, a new carb is most likely affordable!! Thanks for sharing!! 👍 👍
I always change the oil AFTER I get them running but make sure that they have enough TO run to start with. That way they clean out good, the oil being hot. Good fix and BLESSINGS 2 U!.
I use my cleaner all the time.. I also use a cheap Chinese carb. Never had a problem with the 4 stroke ones. Sometimes the 2 stroke ones need a tune after.great video as always mate
Had great luck with the eBay/ Amazon carburetors. Only issue I had was a Tecumseh replacement was surging. The main jet hole was smaller the the OEM so I simply swapped in the OEM main and it was perfect. I have used about a dozen of these. Have 2 on my shelf now. If the old carburetor is clean I will swap the needle and seat but if looks bad like this one I just replace it. Good vid.
@@HomeGaragechannel & @dwwd156, thanks for this tip. Other TH-cam channels speciffically say to AVOID the aftermarket carbs, saying emphatically that "they never woirk." Your statements reinforce me original thought that it may be a good way to go.
I have been fooled by fuel that I thought was good before. My first step now is to dump the old fuel and clean the tank. To get rid of old fuel, I add small amounts of old fuel into much larger quantities of fresh fuel and use the old a little at a time. I also put a conical coffee filter into a funnel and strain it for good measure.
Home garage, yes I would have changed the oil. Regardless. Oil is cheap insurance. New mowers are not. I have also noticed the fresh bottled oil (briggs and Stratton brand) is 18 ounces. When I refill the crankcase, will take about 16. I do not think the extra 2 ounces will hurt. Although, I would rather fill to the line.
I changed the carburettor bowl on my cub cadet s621 because the original carburettor bowl was corroded and rusted when I took it off, and that was the reason why it was having starting and dying problems
I always change my oil in my mower every year, blow out the air filter, and sharpen the blade, all the basic maintenance before I start mowing in the spring
I bought the mower used from a guy it’s only 3 years old, he barely used it and it was cheap for what I needed it for, so ever since I used it never really had problems with it, I like it.
i usually change the oil when you can actually see it on the dip stick (dirty) or loses viscosity.. pretty good at keeping shit out of the intake for my personal mowers so i dont really change the oil in them besides the one burning alittle bit on start up.. the mowers i sell usually come in, in shit condition ie. cant see anything on the dipstick or over filled ( apparently people think they need to dump a quart in before selling one to make it appear like it was maintained) then i just change it..... the turn over/pour method an old glass cup funnel and 2 gallon jugs one filled with fresh oil has the whole change lasting less than 5 min without a mess and no need for help.
Mine has been leaking has from the cap. The cap goes on tight, but it still leaks. I don't know what the hell to do about it. I guess I'll try to replace the cap for the fourth time. I already took the tank off and cleaned the carb. I don't know what the hell the issue is.
I wouldn't have thought about the oil based on the dip stick, but based on the looks of that carb I would have gone back around to it after changing that Carb.
I would've changed the oil anyway since it was diluted with fuel & if I was doing a few of those Briggs and Stratton carburetors,J would replace the needle seat in it & keep a few seats on hand !
That carb was probably still usable, But given the price of rebuild kits, I always go with a new carb. And if the oil is anything but clear. I change it.
I find Craftsman mowers ok, their quality isn’t that bad and they aren’t that expensive. They are kind of on par with Toro, and they also use decent engines
Yes I would've changed the oil, I usually feel for viscosity and smell if either one even gives me a hint of thin and/or burnt dark smell I change it it's cheap and easy preventive maintenence on small engines.
Either buy an OEM carburetor or buy a new needle and seat. I bought a Chinese carburetor from Ebay, tried it on my mower but the engine was surging badly so I bought a new needle and seat and repaired the original carburetor. Now my mower runs perfectly.
The worst fuel leaking carb problems I have experienced have been on the Pulsajet carburetors leaking between the carb and the tank; especially after the mower is running and the vibrations start. I have never failed to stop the leaking, but it is a real time waster.
So you ever consider a ultrasonic session for carb/bowl cleaning (minus plastics/rubber) in the regimen prior to ordering a new carb or for an attempt at deep cleaning
