  • The Northumberland Nightshift - a 300km audax.
    The Route : ridewithgps.co...
301km cycling event starting from Morpeth. Controls at Berwick Upon Tweed, Hawick, Newcastleton and Morpeth., plus 4 information controls.
For those who like a little night ride, a 10.30pm start, expect to ride the first half of the event in the dark. A (very) X-Rated basic event, Roadside start and finish at Cafe in Morpeth.
You will need to be prepared to ride sections of up to 100km with no facilities. This is an event intended for those who are capable of riding extended distances at night and being self sufficient.
Currently facilities are a 24 hour petrol Station with shop or a McDonalds in Berwick upon Tweed.
Newsagents in Hawick from 6.00am, Petrol station from 6am, shops from 7am
By the time you get to Newcastleton the shop will be open and for most the bakery/cafe will be open (tbc). The route goes through Bellingham on the way back from Newcastleton so there should be shops or cafes open by the time most people get there. There's a bit of a climb after Bellingham but after that it's mainly downhill back to finish at The Pavilion Café in Carlisle Park in Morpeth. Sounds easy!

Well done Richard. A couple of months ago I did one of Andy's 200k Audax's - Bellingham and Back, in a howling gale! I was amazed I got round in time. I recognised much of that route. I've never done a 300k ride, I have my first one booked in July - C2C2C! Maybe see you one day at one of these events. Stuart (aka Stuggy!)

Nice place to ride - quiet roads - and this route - nothing too steep, for too long.

@@BikepackingAdventures If you like hills, Andy's Weardale and Teesdale rides are mega steep!

Freezing was the word - the cold got to me and I ended up bailing out at Hawick - my first ever DNF. Last year's was technically colder (with added rain! yay!), but with all the waterproofs on from the start I managed to keep my body temperature up.

I think I would have died if it had rained as well this year - certainly my coldest audax to date in terms on minimum temps. Once the sun rose the temperature shot up a couple of hours later and it was a more pleasurable experience.

      also Bellingham... Bell-in-jum
It's no better down south, where you've got Bosham (Boz-um) and Cosham (Co-sham), can't win, at least the route avoided Cambois!

As long as its got a Co-op and a nice cafe it could be called Dull for all I care. 😅
