    Nick Saban's most important win at Alabama to me is one most people seem to forget about. It was the 2007 game against Arkansas. Arkansas had Darren McFadden then and they were heavily favored to win. By all metrics, they had the better team. Alabama capitalized on Arkansas mistakes and led 31-10 in the third quarter, but then Arkansas settled down and took over, coming back to take a 38-31 lead with 5 or so minutes left. Watching this game, I couldn't help but think that this looked awfully similar to all of the blown leads, near misses, and heartbreaks of the Shula era. But then, Alabama, when they would have just laid down and given up in the previous 4 years, actually showed a pulse for a change, fought back and won 41-38 in dramatic fashion with a late TD. To this day, I don't remember a game with more energy than that one and, to me, it set the tone for the Saban era, even if it ultimately didn't mean much in the long term.

    #1 better be 2009 SEC Championship Game against Florida because that's the game that launched the empire. Tua's 2nd & 26 was the most thrilling finish, but Tim Tebow crying on the sideline was the most important moment that told everyone the Saban dynasty had arrived in Tuscaloosa. That game was the line of demarcation.

      I watched that game with friend of mine who is a Florida fan. He gave me so much shit for an entire year after the 2008 SECC. I dont think I've ever took more pleasure in rubbing it in someone's face, as I did that entire game.

      @Britton. You're totally F of S.
      Why college football historians will look at 2009 and laugh.
      1) 2 times in the future, Saban would present his SABAN BYPASS THE SECC card. FL/Meyer were #1 before AL. Why didn't he get to present his BYPASS card and play TX. It did FL absolutely no good to play that game. I'm sure, you, being a man of integrity, would agree.
      2) The 2009 TN game. Watch the last 4 secs and listen to what Danielson says then watch again closely. As Cody comes past the QB, lower right, he already has his helmet off while the ball is sitting to the left untouched. You will never see a clearer penalty. Clear from the perspective, see the player's exposed dreads (no helmet) and the ball yds away from any players.
      Recap: TN, 3 missed FGS from 43, 44, 47. Made from 24. A rekick would have been 29.
      3) How many times in 2022 have we seen Saban run on about Bryce and the team's inabilities being tied to his injury? How many times did we see him mention COLT being injured 6 plays into the NC game? A 2700 yd passer replaced by 124 yd passer WHO turned it over 5 times in the NC game (4 int, 1 fumble).
      2009 was a farce.

    • @mas5867
      @mas5867 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      2009. What, it takes the greatest ever 3 years to get a NC?
      Chizik says, hold my beer, I got er done in 2.
      Make the argument that Tuberville's last season was better than Shula's. Go ahead, then look both up.

    2012 bama LSU has to be in the top 10, it just has to be. I’ve never felt my team get outplayed to that degree in a good long while, and to somehow put something special together at the end in a game we ABSOLUTELY had to have (or it would have been LSU vs Georgia in the SECCG) in a night game in tiger stadium, where only one team at that time (no. 1 florida) had won since les miles had been there was something that will always stick with me for a long time.

    Without a doubt it's the 2009 SEC championship game against Florida. That's where the dynasty started. Alabama, #1, had just lost the previous year in 2008 to Florida. In 2009, Florida was ranked #1 and l didn't think Alabama would win. But Alabama dominated Florida. Alabama hasn't lost to Florida since. Roll Tide Roll!

      Absolutely. I was at that game. (My only one.) Walking into the stadium we found out that Arkansas had beaten Ole Miss, so this game would put the winner in prime position for a playoff spot-and it did. I asked my cousin, who has been to every game for decades, if that was the loudest she had ever heard the crowd. She said that only the time she remembered it being louder was the 2014 Auburn game where Bama came back in the second half to win 55-44.

    As an Alabama fan. I never thought about what if Colt didn’t get hurt. Players get hurt, it’s part of the game. Every team has a what if game. next time don’t run your best player in a brick wall, might make it to the end of the game.

      What I find tiresome is how no one acknowledge that Alabama’s qb had cracked ribs during the game also but no one ever acknowledges that it’s just “muh Colt was hurt” also people forget that Texas barely beat Oklahoma that year when Sam Bradford (the previous years Heisman) was out for the season. But i guess injuries only matter when they happen to Texas *rolls eyes*.

    The most memorable thing about #9, the 2015 beat down against Georgia, is that it was, and still is to this day, the only time the Tide has been an underdog, since the 2009 SEC Championship Game.
    That’s the most amazing, unbelievable statistic of the entire Saban Dynasty, in my opinion. I don’t think it gets talked about enough, considering just how truly amazing it is. The last time Bama lost as an underdog was 2008. That’s just plain crazy.

    • @glenndowdy4180

      What is a lot more telling and I have only done this for LSU so far. Saban was 9-11* against teams that finished with 9 wins.

    I'm not saying it should be given the games that are on the list, but 2014 Mississippi State isn't even on the radar. Think about that, at most places stopping a #1 team with a top Heisman contender cold would be an all-time classic moment. Nick Saban's Bama just views it as another Saturday.

    Cannot argue with that list. Josh knows more about college football than all of espn college guys combined. I would only add 1a ohio st whipping not because of anything but it was Saban's 7th title now the most by any coach and 6 at bama matching Bear. The next one will be 7 at bama and 8 overall making any talk of anyone being the best other than Saban a list arguement before it starts
    This will be history I may never see broken in my lifetime. ROLL TIDE. The only thing left is will it be e 2021 or later? Let the crazy responses begin. Gimme your best shot haters, i got facts history, and the football gods on my side, like bama will say,gimme ya best shot.😁🐘

    Josh,
    Love your analysis it's always amazing but I have to disagree with with one of your analyses. It's regarding the 2012 SEC Championship game, and this is coming from a life long Bama fan going back to the 1970s, all those callers about saying running out of time were pretty accurate. I was at that game and remember the sequence of events and that loss falls squarely on the shoulders of Mark Richt and him making a poor decision before the final play. Murray had just completed a long pass that got UGA to the 6 yard line and as UGA was hustling down the field Murray was looking at the UGA sideline and motioning to spike the ball and stop the clock. Richt waved that off and UGA rushed the next play, resulting in an INT and the Bama victory. Richt straight up blew the call and cost UGA their Natty. Bama wasn't slowing UGA down and if UGA had taken the time to spike the ball and call a play UGA would finally have a second NC.

      Part of why Texas would have defeated Bama if Colt didn't get hurt is not only that Colt was Elite, but that his backup was a freshman who committed 4 turnovers in the game and Texas was still down by only 3 with 2 minutes left in the game.
