- Finally got to drive the MK7 Golf GTI Clubsport Edition 40. Definitely a lot more special than your average GTI. This particular car was a crazy spec too.

Great vid, you summed up the difference between gti and r perfectly. Ive had both, the gti was more alive and fun to drive, keeping you plugged in on tight twisty roads. The r is more planted, and the grip is outstanding. Yet it feels sanitised, like the car doesnt trust the driver. Imo the clubsport is the true range topper, being everthing a fast golf should be.
for a front wheel drive, the GTI's are iconic and are beasts....
I agree, GTI will always have its place, especially these special versions

Absolutely love the bucket seats in these, for the life of me I don’t know why they are not an option, they even had them on the MK6 R and they look mint.
Yeah its really strange! I mean if they fully stopped doing them in the MK7 maybe it would make sense, but the fact they decided to offer it on the Clubsport just shows they just did the R wrong

Basically bro just buy a type r do a conversion kit from type r to gti and throw a bigger turbo from apr on it no internal engine work and you have a golf that looks like a gti but has 400bhp
I believe the gti is actually higher spec'ed than the R weirdly
Looks so much better than the Golf R styling wise and same with the interior. Another great quality video mate👍🏻 funny how every used to have the GTi’s and nobody bought R’s but now its the other way round

Great car. the problem with the club sport was the price was too close to the R and the R has much better traction in the wet with the all wheel drive.

I would personally still choose a gold r over the gti due to the awd, power, and leather seats, and digital gauge cluster. Even then I would still do a bunch of bolt ons and tune, etc. The thing is the golf r here in the US doesn't have a sunroof/panaranic roof, but the gti does. That triggers me so much!!!

You can also turn traction off when launching (launchcontrol active). You wont get wheelhop then, just a bit more spin.
Have this over the R any day icon car this and will hold its desperation better then the R 👌🏽💥

I’d still have a Golf R to be fair. The new gtis just doesn’t have that Wow factor or even feel as special as older GTIS. Saying that if the Golf R didn’t exist, in its category the gti would be the best in its class 😁
the helper of the peopledems I would have an R too. But this GTI is definitely special, more so than any R I’ve seen. A regular GTI doesn’t come close but the Clubsport is something very nice indeed 👌🏼

One further thing about the Clubsport S is that you can get a rollcage in the back.
And it has a aluminium subframe in the front 😉

simple question: would you have this MK7 GTI Clubsport or MK7.5 GTI Performance with all the new tech? That's my dilemma. Does the Clubsport feels faster than the GTI? Since it has the IS38 turbo lacks the low down torque of GTi in normal street driving I guess?

I don’t think the R’s are much faster, if even at all, from a roll than the GTI’s. I believe they’re really only faster off the line because of the 4Motion

@@jimmyjt16 mate the clubsport has the same engine but the car is lighter. If you have them lined with same hp the R will lose.
@@chiel- no one mentioned the clubsport. We're taking about the normal GTI.
Of course the clubsport is quicker on a roll. Its lighter.

When you are talking about the same hp.. then the gti will be quicker due to weight

The fact these new GTI'S sound exactly the same as the Golf R is a joke. I think the R should have the 2.5 init and then it would deserve the R badge. When you used to see GTIs you knew the difference between that and the R spec cars
After watching this, is it me as i owned a mk5 GTI, it doesnt seem quick in the middle gears... kind of docile... or maybe im used to my e93 M3, GTi's still nice car thou.. i say this as i use to rag my Mrk5 GTi (manual) and the pickup alone was impressive, i could make wheel spin between 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd, maybe traction control is on... i didnt even have all the aids like they do now... fun cars GTi's

Think the pan roof is a bad option to tick in a car like this, they weigh a tonne
You're not gonna be racing this car daily, it's still a daily driver so it doesn't matter.
Pan roof is the best when ur driving... espsh in summer. Gives a different feel to the car.
