That day with the TOs and Fuk Ching was crazy. I remember when we heard about it and drove by there with my guys and saw one guy laying close to the corner of the street and in the Fuk Ching association, the door were open with one guy laying on the stairs.
One of my favorite writers John Sack (RIP) wrote a book called The Dragonhead which followed the life of Johnny Kon, giving a general overview of high level Triad operations. I'm finding these interviews that describe the day to day of the soldiers to be as fascinating as that book. Thanks for getting all this together my friend.
remember this block where seafood market and grocery stores at East Broadway and Pike street. walk further down near subway station, there was a funeral home and barbershops. I recalled going to meat grocery store "Season" ran by father and sons family business. it was in the early 90s.
J mention about the Fuk Ching that got shot in the leg. I am not sure if the same shootout, but I think that was one of Ah Kay brother. Belive it or not , he never remove those bullets. He was killed later on in NJ in a separate incident, and the old bullets from Tung On was still inside him. Nice tour. The building on the right hand side of the Fukien Association is where Fuk Ching use to hangout. Second floor or third floor. Apartment had camera that watched the street. Play cards all day long. Ah Kay shows up once or twice.
Use to reup on canal as a kid. Remember thinking I was copping from the triads. I’m also from Brooklyn sunset park so we have a Chinatown on 8th Avenue. There’s gangsters from everywhere gotta respect it
Thank You for another good episode of CGS. If you guys can wear some CGS T Shirt & hat while doing the show I think it would be perfect. BTW hope you guys can also talk about the gangster's outfit of the 80s & 90s. It was really classic.
Whoa talking about Maria’s bakery on Lafayette (recently Blick Art Supply)! Back in the day that was the biggest bakery space with tons of tables. It was scary going in there sometimes as a kid 😂😂. I was in school a few blocks when the shooting went down on EBdwy and Pike, we was shook.
Crazy stories about what went down on these streets in Chinatown NYC and how they remember it like it was just yesterday. Any stories about Wah Ching in NYC? They were big in SF and LA, and had their run-ins with the Wo Hop To Triad in the 1980s for control of SF. Also, any stories about John Willis aka Bac Guai John who was part of the Ping On in Boston? Based on what I read about him, he was in NYC for a bit. He has such a fascinating story as probably one of a very few white men who worked their way up an Asian crime syndicate.
East Broadway mall had a night club called yi dong karaoke. It had PR girls working in there. Use to go there almost every weekend after the American clubs like Red Zone. Even meet many famous Hong Kong singers like the 4 kings Jackie Chang 张学友😂
@@CashMoneyMoore you're welcome. Back then it's a pretty frequent thing for those Hong Kong singers and celebrities to come to Atlantic city and have shows. Especially around the holidays like thanks giving and Christmas. At that time, there weren't too many pr Asian nightclub spots . So almost all the them will stop by the East Broadway spot after they were finished with the concerts, on top of that TO is the Gang that have the connections from Hong Kong cause they are affiliated with the Triads over there. But the nightclubs customers that time are either business people or gangsters. And the businessman most likely has gangsters with them as protection when they're there.
Question for Mike or Jimmy or anyone that remembers. There was this Chinese restaurant on east broadway between market and Catherine. It was called “sing go sing”. I have been debating where it is with my dad. Does anyone know exactly where it was on east broadway? Was it closer to market or was it in the middle? It was there in the 80’s.
What happened when Feds came down in the street and everyone from Codes group got kicked out of the street and quan ying and kwok keen came down Nice restaurant was next to the library
They did not join poon or ah ying group poon kowk keen and even hung mou was in cohorts hung mou thought he was not included in the raid that’s only reason he didn’t leave too
I heard that before the large influx of Fuzhou immigrants moved into East Broadway and the surrounding streets that during the 1980s there were a lot of middle class or wealthier Southeast Asian Chinese residents coming from Vietnam, Malaysia, Burma and Indonesia. Is that true?
@@chinatowngangstories I often wonder why many of the Cantonese moved out of eastern Chinatown east of the Bowery and the Fuzhous were able to largely settle there, but Western Chinatown from The Bowery going west continued to retain its traditional Cantonese community dominance.
Not true. Asian gangs bring hurt to other races when trouble comes to them. Check out Shorty and Little Chicken’s story on this channel. 1980’s BTK took care of business in the Bronx when Vietnamese mothers and grandmas got robbed and assaulted. Lot’s of cold cases out there and police think it’s the same race who picked them off.
Idk about NYC but out here in California the Asians particularly Southeast Asian gangs had beef with Latino gangs lots of back and forth shootings resulting in numerous deceased. It's calmed down a lot but in the 90s and early 2000s all up and down California the Asians were going to war with Latinos.
this shit is important NY history. Thank you guys for documenting it, and sharing your stories.
50 cent should make a tv series with all of you it would be legendary
“Get Rice or Die Trying”
Alright, gotta admit, that’s funny!

What's the extortion rate back in your days? Is it a percentage of the business' revenue? Or a fixed number?
Did the gangs ever extorted Non Asian businesses?

Why asian gangs hurt asians only and not other races is odd. That's discrimination.
