The current #VolkswagenJetta has all the right ingredients for a good daily driver. One area that left something to be desired was performance and for 2019, VW is addressing that with the return of the sporty Jetta, this is the all-new #JettaGLI with all the performance upgrades from the GTI hatchback. Including the most important addition, a 228 HP turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder and the option of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG. Nah, that grey color and black wheels would gag a maggot... No point in a dual exhaust for a 4 cylinder engine but at least it's not a fake dual exhaust. A prop rod hood on a car in this price range is just cheapshit.

@@beyakhad it's an ok price for the car. You can get a 4cyl camaro for about 21k at dealers. I think the camaro is a better deal if you don't need 4 doors and trunk space

Been waiting for this to arrive ever since the new Jetta came out, and this has exceeded my expectations. Fully loaded at 30K? That’s a steal. It’s basically a GTI Autobahn for 6K less. Sign me up. It’s also now on the same platform as the GTI. Nice 👍.

Not a huge VW fan but I can see the appeal in the GLI
4:55 I don’t get why cars that are only FWD still have such a bad center hump in the back floor! The only thing that it should need to fit is the exhaust pipe which on this engine shouldn’t be that big to need a bump that goes all the way to the bottom of the seat cushion

Probably because it's still on the MQB platform where they also build Golf Rs, S3 and others which are AWD. All built off the same platform, saves development costs.

Would be cool to see a Jetta R, though I would imagine VW wouldn't be to keen to step on Audi's toes by offering a budget S3.
Maybe it adds rigidity to the structure.

The 35th Anniversary Edition has a Audi A3 color called Nano Grey. I think I would rather have a macked out GLI over the A3 when i get ready to trade this year.

No doubt. Then US consumers can complain about the features we don't get that are available on the MK8 in Europe. :)
It is redesigned for 2020 though the exterior changes are subtle. But I’m really excited about the power bump 258hp base and near 300 for performance pack. Also getting the digital cockpit too. Supposed to start production in June.

@@dave_riots VW has a longstanding practice of limiting the content of US spec vehicles in the interest of keeping them price competitive. For example, a fully loaded Autobahn trim of the GTI in Germany runs over $50,000 at current exchange rates. VW believes, and I think they're right, that the US market wouldn't support that price for the GTI. It will be interesting to see a comparison between the European and US versions of the GLI. All the major features are likely to be the same but I wouldn't be surprised to see some features missing from the US version.

This is the first Jetta that I actually like the looks of, inside and out. Reliability aside, so-called 'German Engineering' aside, I think it's a handsome looking sedan that has a very Audi look to it.
The best looking Jetta so far especially in the GLI variant IMO

How does the MK7 GLI compare to your model 3 performance on size fit and features? I love my tuned MK6 GLI it makes a great daily driver and road trip car it goes over 450 miles on a tank and is fun to drive and manages snow and rain just fine. It is a great complement to my C7 stingray.
As a MK4 GLI owner I'm glad to see the update on the GLI.. but I want Trim, Racing seats and no more Red Line and stitching. Color option would be nice
This would honestly be my PERFECT $25-$30k sedan (notice I’m being specific about class and price range), if it was only offered in AWD! :( However even as a FWD only car I still dig it! I’ve had 9 cars in my life and my current 2016 Jetta TSI Sport has been one of my favorites for sure
No matter what generation they’re in, the GTI is always better than the GLI. Gti interior is much better quality than this Jetta, and you can get fog lights, navigation, rear vents for rear passengers, adaptive cruise, park assist, park pilot, lane assist, the rear vw emblem as the backup camera, and much more on the GTI. Only thing the GLI has over it is the digital cockpit, which, for the golf family in the u.s, is only available on the Golf R.

New Jetta is much nicer than the last generation. I had a 2019 R-Line Jetta this week because I was having a recall done on my ‘17 GTI. The Jetta was very nice in the front and felt way more solid than our 2017 GLI. Drove like a larger GTI (minus the power). I was impressed. I do prefer the form factor of the GLI to the GTI. I do wish the back seat was nicer, and had vents, but likely I will never sit back there. I am seriously considering one. We’ll see how much they cost.
Rod Reichardt before I got my gti, I sat in the Jetta sel and then sat in the golf r right afterwards, and the r felt much more premium, and seats were a lot more comfortable. Then i test drove the sel back to back with the gti autobahn, and it was no question that the gti was the one to go for. The Jetta doesn’t even exist in Volkswagen Germany, but we do get the same golf that the Germans get. I can definitely tell the Jetta was made to be the cheaper counterpart.
Not sure if I'm just not used to the design yet, but I like the look of my 2017 GLI better. Maybe it'll grow on me!

Finally a GLI with GTI power. Very nice. I didn't see any parking sensors tho, a dark reminder of the under-equipped CC Wolfsburg. Maybe they are stealth?

We appreciate you showing the anniversary version and the 6 speed, but most people will not be in the market for that. The mass market is much more interested in the normal GLI with all the features.

I've watched pretty much every video on TH-cam about the premiere of the Jetta GLI at the Chicago Auto Show. For some reason, all the reviewers seem to be attracted to the grey one like moths to a flame, despite the fact that it is a noticeably lower trim level than the red one. I really want to see the top trim interior of this model, but all we got were a few glimpses.

The Arteon look nice but the quality isn't nice for the price in Germany in my opinion take the new opel insignia or in us Buick regal it has in my opinion better quality and cost less and you get enough for the money

Arteon is in an entirely different segment price wise. I prefer it too but there’s a better chance that I will buy a GLI.

For what it’s worth VW says it’s lower than a standard Jetta by .6 inches.
I was a VW fan until I had a streak of bad experiences with three different cars with various issues and legal issues with a dealer that I had to hire a lawyer to resolve.
I gave up on them and got a Honda which I’ve had no issues with in four years.
However I would like the new electric bus but that won’t be out until 2022 .
Still leery of reliability issues with VW though .
Until the new type r, nothing in the Honda range put a smile on your face everyone you drive it.

Yeah I'm not sure where he got that number from. Like u mentioned the GTI Autobahn dsg is already at $38k. I don't think the GLI will get up that high since there are a few cost cutting measures with Jetta compared to Golf. But I fully expect a loaded GLI with dsg to be around $35k-$36k. Maybe that 35th anniversary will be the one that starts in the $27k-$28k range. Naturally this car will be cross shopped by people looking at the Si since they're both in that sporty sedan segment. But price wise they'll be in a different range.
The Jetta SEL Premium is only $25-26K so the GLI will be around $30K.....$33K at the most is my guess.

I actually like the GLI and GTI.. it's a shame they're fail wheel drive however.. that's the only thing I dislike. Imagine a RWD GLI with a 6 speed and APR Stage 2 tune with a downpipe.. would be bad ass.. Lol.

kevin c fax dude, I test drove the 2.0 liter Quattro a3 when looking for a car and put my foot down to get around a car and was pleasantly surprised by the take off. Sadly tho it’s an Audi and I decided as a 20 year old dude I couldn’t afford that shit hahaha

Marcel Tansie reliability? I gave up on VW because of multiple reliability issues with three different cars .
Long throws, no fog lights, spacious back seat, boxy styling, 225 tires instead of 235 and a hefty price.
(2:10) Time --- Why did they remove the gas shock on the trunk... It now just flops with the springs. I was really hoping the would have added this back in at least for the GLI
I still like my 2016 GLI look better. And with the IS20/IS38 swap you can make 400 HP+

What price?
I've been waiting for this for the longest time. There are three things that are probably going to piss me off. First, there's no parking brake lever which means it's electronic. Second, is the traction control going to be defeatable and the answer is probably not. Three, is the mechanical LSD going to be available without the electronic one so there's one less electronic nanny tho deal with.
Honest question: What’s the Audi counterpart aesthetically to this GLI? Can’t put my finger on it. A3/S3? A4/S4? A5/S5? Thanks
A3 for GLI/GTI.

VAQ diff unless they changed the name. Surprised it didn’t come with hydraulic hood struts. My 2016 MK7 GTI came with them.

Tim Flohr simple fix but still annoying knowing it came standard on an older car that’s essentially the hatchback version. Hell, my old MKV Wolfsburg Jetta came with them.
The VAQ is a mechanical limited slip differential. This has the e-diff which uses the brakes to mimic what a diff would do. The 2018 gti had it in the USA and they went back to the VAQ in 2019.
Chance Thoroman false. The VAQ diff is an electronically controlled diff and non performance pack equipped models like the 2015 GTI when the performance pack wasn’t standard, use the brakes to mimic the actions of a LSD.
