My daughter just purchased the Autobahn model in white with a 6 speed manual. Fully loaded. Digital dash, sunroof, great sound system, leather, heated and ventilated seats. Great acceleration and the 6 speed is silky smooth. VW has done a great job on the 2019 GLI.
I have been curious about the Beats audio system in that model. How is it?
@@timgridley1299 I was not sure what to expect. However, it sound really good. Certainly not a step down from the Fender system that was in the last GLI. My suggestion to anyone is to go look at the vehicle, check out all the new features, then take it for a test drive. I've been in other GLI's. The 2019 model is SUPERIOR to any of them across the board. The Autobahn was not cheap, but it is truly a sports sedan. Accelerates great, handles great, brakes are top notch and a comfortable vehicle.
Just bought a 2019 Jetta r line, comes with a 6 year warranty, we also purchased the term protection which covers wear and tear, ex. Brakes, battery, headlights, belts n hoses. Do you think something like this is worth it? Can I replace battery myself and take it somewhere to have brakes replaced? Not familiar with German car maintenance.
@@rudygonzales3589 Good luck with your new Jetta. Since you purchased the protection package from VW, I would only take it the dealership if anything needs to be done. Granted, the dealerships are EXPENSIVE, but you have a protection package and your financial liability should be minimal if any. German cars, (VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc....) can be tricky which is why I am recommending the dealership for repairs. Best of luck.
The GLI is a fantastic sporty sedan but frankly the SEL premium is a better buy. SEL premium is EPA rated at 40 hwy but real life is 44mpg on 87 octane. Also, if you learn to drive it as a "manual" and use the gear selector as you wish, you notice there's very little trade off to an actual manual. When you do the math you realize you have money for a fun sports car on the side to fill the need, or a motorcycle, or a Vespa. Love the GLI but you will pay a sheet ton more in unwanted/unforeseen costs.
I owned a 2017 GTI with plaid seats and loved those seats! Just bought the U.S. version 2019 white 35th edition GLI (with DSG) for my wife. She really likes the dark cloth seats it comes with (and so do I). She said she wouldn't have wanted her GLI if it had plaid seats. I think I agree with her on that. The plaid just goes with the GTI...not so much with the GLI. The GLI doesn't have to be an exact copy of the GTI. Having a unique look for the GLI is a good thing (in our opinion). My wife LOVES her new GLI! It handles great and looks great...and has plenty of pep.
I've owned many VWs since the 1980s (Sciroccos, Rabbits, Jettas and GTIs) and currently own a 2003 Jetta Wolfsburg (modified) and a 2018 GTI (stock) - - In 2018, I highly considered the GLI, but the plaid seats and dark, metallic blue paint color (new in 2018) sealed the deal for me with the GTI ... its a great daily driver.
Where have you been? This is the exact energy car reviews need.
4:20 yes there is a resonator under the hood that adds engine noise, but it is easily unplugged.
You don't have to unplug it. Just change the settings on your "mode" control.
Nice to have you back. Not even bad looking Jetta compared to what I remember. It´s long gone in Germany.
I am a current owner of a 2019 Jetta S trim with 6 speed manual so for me; Plaid seats in a base S trim / 35th using a manual trans and forget the rest as the base sound system is pretty good actually and with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard, all you really need, this is a high value fun and practical daily driver.
hey im looking to buy the 35th anniversary and you're the first person to even mention the speakers, how are they? is there bass distortion or can you bump your music?
@@livm7568 Hey, well the system in my current Jetta is a 4 speaker and it is not bad, not great but quite loud enough and the bass response is decent too. This 35th trim has the slightly better 6 speaker system. While it still doesn't have the sub woofer like in the Fender system in the Autobaun trim but it dose sound much better than my setup and all most would need. Yes it thumps pretty good for not having a sub, I turn head when it's loud. Honestly I am going in two days to turn in my current Jetta for either a Golf R if I can get the down payment or if not I will get the grey 35th Anniversary model of the GLI. I will update when I do and I will also start posting videos to my channel as well. Good luck to you and enjoy!
The volkswagen approach has always been about keeping the performance models somewhat discreet. I'd rather that than having a flashy wrx or focus st.
I agree. Additionally, this car is definitely a sleeper and wouldn't draw too much attention from law enforcement.
Agreed. Traded a wrx for the gray one. Couldn’t be happier.
Becky B what year wrx did you have? I have 2016 currently and I am intrigued by this car.
Mike I had a 2017.
Mike I did change the wheels and I did change the front grill. And I think it looks really sharp
Just traded in my 2015 Golf TSI for a fully loaded GLI. Hopefully getting it delivered soon! Finally happy they've made the car closer to the GTI. The GLI's cooled seats and digital gauges are awesome.
Love the grey color. I just picked up a 2014 GLI in Tornado Red and absolutely love it. Such a fun daily driver and just the right amount of power. Leery about long-term reliability, but the car has been well taken care of and I plan to do the same.
Just bought the "S" trimmed car. Love it! Low content (no moonroof, no leather, no power seat, etc), but all the same performance bits. My first dual clutch trans, so still adjusting to it. Great trans, but not great off-the-line. I had one German car before (2001 BMW 330Ci), and I forgot how much I like German engineering and design. Highly recommended.
I've got a 2016 GTI which puts a smile on my smile on my face every day. This GLI at that price has me really confused on where to go next. That gray car is sweet.
Daniel O'Connell took the words out of my mouth. I’ve got a ‘16 Autobahn gti and when these GLIs depreciate in a few years I think that big back seat and trunk is going to win me over. Assuming I stay VW
whats difference between GTI and GLI?
Cyril Matthew One is based on the golf , the other is the jetta
@@chillintm ty bro
@@mronemanband1 thats a precise explanation
Very nice review! Regarding your question on "Don't let them see you coming", I would say that I love that. I drive a GTI most of the times and enjoy leaving others left behind in disbelief. I also drive an Audi and those four rings give away the available power and handling capability and so I don't have the element of surprise on my side with that car.
The new Jetta has definitely grown on me
The GLI makes the Jetta so much better in every way and a real bargain
I would get one with the 6-speed manual
I have the GLI S from 2019 in Pure Gray. Car pulls amazing
I am totally ok with the leather in these cars, plaid looks nice, had it twice before in my previous cars but you quickly get used to it and it stops feeling special after a while, becoming just cloth seats. When you have a child or two, you are quickly approaching 40 and the GTI no longer fits the stroller, then you get this GLI, with leather seats and of course, sunroof (for the fresh air on the highway and for the baby to look up at the sky through).
i got the 35th edition. mainly because the wheels, and do prefer cloth seats. Also i dont think VW has perfected the digital cockpit just yet. But i do wish some of the features in the Autobahn were in the 35th edition like beats audio, the bigger screen, and power seats.
I had a 400whp 2012 6MT GTI for 5 years and I've gotta say, after purchasing the 2019 GLI S, I wondered why I even went with the 6MT to begin with. The DQ380 DSG transmission in these things are amazing. They do have their quicks though; mainly caused by stock software issues. If you have the willingness to upgrade your DSG software, do it. It makes the car feel so much better while spirited driving or even just cruising through town. I'd recommend TVS stage 2+ for DSG software.
This thing looks huge for a compact. Tiquan is bigger, Passats already big, Atlas is jumbo. Yep its def for the American market
Yep! this is definitely to screw American idiots who would still buy a VW
@@squidproquo2241
? What are you on about?
It's not a big car... 5 series is big car. If "big" was the only thing we wanted then why are the Honda Fit, Civic, Mazda 3, etc so prolific even in New England? Even smaller crossovers are more common than behemoths like the Atlas.
PS. The new VW GTI is actually smaller in the vertical dimension than the MK6. They gave the vehicle more width which is of course beneficial when it comes to handling. But the roof on my MK7 is much much closer to my head than the roof on my MK6 was. I used to be able to pull right up to the line at a stop light and see the light, now I can't which is kind of annoying since it's a hard habit to break. I checked the dimensions to be sure and the MK7 is shorter, it weights about 100lbs less with fluids and everything in it, yet it has a extra 2 inches in its wheelbase, and we'll the exterior body width is actually only .5inches more than the MK6. So are they shrinking? No, but are they drastically increasing in size? That's a no too. For this I'm glad because the GTI especially strikes a balance between practical and sport oriented that is really hard to break away from once you get accustomed to it.
@@squidproquo2241 VW makes a great car. Don't know what your purpose is here exceptto express your dislike of VW.
In Canada they are all Autobahn, just 35 Edition and "The other" no cloth seats I have a 2016 GTI as well with the plaid seats and they are nice but I feel the bolsters will wear out a lot faster than the leather. We pick our GLI manual 35 Edition with all the Autobahn goodies next Thursday and am looking forward to it even if it is my wife's car. I have driven it and it feels a bit bigger, the seats are longer on the bottom which is nice. Lots of adjustments and power lumbar which I welcome. Nice road test, thanks. C and D should have their test up soon, they were a little slower to the mark as they wanted to do more instrument testing, so look forward to their numbers.
I love the understated looks of the GLI, I think it is way better looking than all the doo dads on the sti and type r's of the world. I would even get a sticker to cover the red trim on the grill to make it even more low key. They should have some plaid seats in the GLI just maybe a different color scheme than the GTI. I'm thinking of green and blue. I would get it like that base with DCT. They also need to add a dark blue exterior color and put the ratcheting armrest back in.
Got a GLI with a Man. Trans. and black seats... Love the driving
VW *definitely* needs to make the plaid seats an option on the Autobahn. If you live in the SouthWest, good cloth seats are awesome - black leather, not so much. That would cinch the deal for me when I buy my next car. Plus, the plaid seats are simply iconic, and they look fantastic!
plaid seats should be available for all trims!!! They are great on my GTI.
It's a heritage thing for the GTI so no you are going to have to lift them out of a GTI.
OspreyBravo18 Haha I understand but why not offer some sort of plaid seats maybe a different color... just to have the option it wouldn’t hurt.
Plaid is so ugly
Mk6 gti owner here. Did my headliner in the same plaid and going to do it in the armrest and doors!!!!!!!!
I just bought 35th anniversary edition but I’d want the plaid seats and red seat belts.
That belongs to the GTI and it has since the MK1.
Go to a junk hard a pick them up off a totaled car
What’s amazing is on Autotrader these 35th editions are basically the same price or even lower than a new Civic Si. It’s very nice and well equipped though I still would prefer the GTI.
You will still be screwed one way or another.
Which handles better Civic Si or GLI?
Considering the fact that Civic holds the Front Wheel Drive Car record around the Nurburgring Nordschleife which one do you think handles better?
Langolier, of course that’s for the Type R no doubt which is in a totally different class.
@Jesse James You compare Civic Si which was the main competition against the GTi for many years and did not even have the Turbo vs the Jetta Gli. Civic Si has 1.5 L engine while this GLi has 2.0 L engine yet you compare them anyway. Guess what Civic Si even though with a lesser engine beats this German piece of shit because neither a GTi nor this GLi has a chance against 2.0L civic ... Got it?
When I bought my 2016 GTI 6 speed, I got an Autobahn to avoid the plaid though I prefer cloth to leather. Thankfully, VW, though they used the Golf R brakes and the GTI suspension on the new GLI, gave the 35th Anniversary Edition its own distinctive cloth seats. I bought a pure gray one and was quite pleased VW did not co-op the GTI plaid. If I want plaid, I'll buy a Scottish kilt. Never understood the desire for plaid seats in GTIs. Thumbs up to VW for the decision to keep plaid out of the GLI.
I definitely have a thing for the Jetta - the III was my first car. They seem to have done a really nice job with the new GLI. How do you expect something like this to hold up long-term? I’m a Mazda fan nowadays and have gotten spoiled by their reliability compared to the Germans.
I have a 2017 GLI w a DSG and am still enjoying it. Be sure to keep it in the upper RPM realm and its alot of fun. Keep 93 octane in and add some extra octane and the engine screams. (for stock)
To answer your question, I get what VW is doing with the stealthily looks, buy damn do I wish they at least had fender flares like the wrx, obv at the time of this comment, the new one has come out and it has been giving more flair front and back which is great. I just wish they added the wide body look of the wrx,.maybe even small inlets on the hood, something that transforms it visually.
Autobahn, plaid seats, manual, AND adjustable struts/shocks please.
VWnutMalibu the DCC (adjustable strict/shock) is available indeed
Mobi Wori Unfortunately, only in the Canadian Autobahn and not the USA Autobahn. Hopefully 2020?
@@VWnutMalibu That's truly unfortunate, why did VW to this?
Similar for the golf. The Canadian version is cheaper and allows you to add ACC on the base trim.
I hope they will add DCC to more vehicles, especially larger vehicles like SUVs, since those trully need it.
johnroosterrod65@gmail.com Yes, VWnutMalibu! I want a manual, or else I won't buy one! 3 pedals!! Semper Fidelis
Does it have the diff from the GTI? If not, huge step in the wrong direction. I have a '17 GTI SE and that electronic limited slip works as advertised. And, of couse, GIVE US A DAMN GTI SPORTWAGEN.
I just traded in my 16 Challenger R/T 6 speed yesterday for the 35th Anniversary 6 speed and I am not missing the V-8
What made you want to trade? mpg? reliability? etc...
T.K. Morris Kids are getting bigger and the car didn’t suit my driving style. I like a corner carver and not a drag racer.
@@jameshixenbaugh3349 Does the manual shift good ? And did you even try the auto ?
T.K. Morris Yes it’s night and day compared to the Challenger. The GLI has shorter throws and takes less effort to engage the next gear it literally falls into gear. The clutch is super light. I did drive the auto to see if I would like the GLI. The manual had more punch in my opinion.
@@jameshixenbaugh3349 Thank you for being so helpful. Did you compare the GLI to any other cars or what made you choose the GLI?
Just wait till the MK8 GTI comes out in a year or two, then the honeymoon will be over and everybody will start to bemoan the GLI as the underperforming sibling. The GLI has been behind the GTI in platform sharing since 2015, and at around 200 lbs heavier than a comparably equipped GTI, it has a bit of a weight problem. The Mk6 versions of these two cars were more closely matched in terms of power to weight ratio. But the addition of a true LSD and variable valve lift is certainly a a welcome improvement over the outgoing generation. My wife has a 17' GLI so I'm not hating on the new ones. It's a great car as is, and we got it brand new as a year end clearance model for 6k off MSRP, so it was a steel. But I'd wait a few years before pulling the trigger on a current generation model, just to allow VW to work out the electromechanical "kinks" that are common to redesigns..
This is a deal - $7,000 less than an Autobahn GTI. The Drivers Assistance Package is fantastic on the MQB cars.
Nah, the 23k I paid for my brand new fully loaded 17' GLI two years ago, now THAT was a DEAL...
Nelson Vanvickle that’s a very good deal. This one is MQB with many improvements and will probably sell for $27K loaded.
I'd go 35th package with the Autobahn package and the Clark Plaid Seats. Also like more Color options like Green, Yellow or Orange.
I personally dislike leather seats due to living in the desert. Saying that if they released special trim colors ONLY for the gli then id be more than willing to bite the bullet. The new green on the gti is amazing
Good video. I like the sleeper looks over regular Jetta. Badging is already getting a bit much. Don’t need a wing.
Love my 2019 GLI Autobahn pyrite silver with DSG. Wish it had DCC and ACC though. Have had MK6 GTI and MK6 GTI Autobahn this GLI is just as fun to drive. Kudos VW!
I chose the 35th Edition just to get the DCC. Love the Pure Gray and the 6-speed manual tranny!
Done away with the passing of the MK6 is Parksense, Navigation, and fog lights. But you get 18 more hp. Easily make it up through Unitronic or an APR tune on an MK6. I wouldn't trade out of my MK6, but possibly just add a GTI Autobahn to the collection.
Would choose the plaid in a heartbeat. And would forego leather on the Autobahn trim. I wish my Mk 6 GTI Atobahn was available with the plaid seats. Much prefer the cloth over leather in that car.
Damn that cement gray is nice on the Jetta. I would go with the tartan gray seats on the 35th trim, got to have those fancy dampers.
Welcome back to TN. It was great to meet you when you visited in 2016.
Thank you, sir! I have come to the conclusion that I don't spend enough time in your lovely state. Going to change that.
Plaid on a autobahn, driving on the autobahn, looking down onto the plaid seats in the autobahn, then back up onto the autobahn.. Verstehen?
I like having choices so I think plaid should be available on every trim. However I would buy an Autobahn with leather. More importantly I would like to be able to have the DCC in the Autobahn trim. It makes no sense that it isn’t. I own a 2017 GTI SE manual and I am seriously considering a GLI. I just prefer the sedan form factor to a hatchback.
You understand why plaid isn't available though right? It's a heritage symbol for the GTI hailing back to the MK1.
I get that plaid is mainly a GTI thing. It doesn’t have to be. Personally I would prefer leather (or even leatherette). I’m an old guy and I remember VWs with plaid seats prior to the GTI. We had an 77 VW Rabbit when I was in college (around 82) that had blue plaid seats much like my 83 GTI. So plaid was never exclusive to the GTI. I believe I recall some Siroccos having plaid seats as well. I don’t remember if early Jettas ever had them but certainly the precedent for plaid in other models exists.
Plaid in the S, leather in autobahn. I’d go traditional though S all the way.
With the Jetta Gli and Mazda 3 being released at the same time and the 3 being more expensive, the VW Jetta GLI or GTI seem like such a better choice over the Mazda 3 manual with all three at $28k.
Drove a Mazda 3 while in Hawaii, it was a decent car but the GLI and the GTI are just a ton of fun. The Mazda 3 is sluggish in comparison.
This car is the same as my 2015 Audi A3 2.0T I got in 2014.
Not. Even. Close.
@@MotoManTV Which is better? A3 or GLI?
@@buildmorefarms1007 GLI. All day. Every day. Twice on Sunday.
@motoman-
It's built on the same platform, has the same 220 or so hp 2.0 litre variable valve lift 4 banger, same size turbo, mechanically identical to the MK7 GTI, suspension components, et cetera. The only difference is the absence of all wheel drive that the Audi uses. So, closer than you think. And FWIW, I don't know anybody that would take this car over a fully loaded A4, LOL...
@@MotoManTV I was recalling back to when you were comparing the A3 to the GTI and getting advise from chicks on which car they would get.
This is a different tune from you MotoMan. 😁
What is so significant with this GLI than the Mk7 GTI you compared to the A3 5 years ago?
Plaid seats regardless of trim. I'm a low-content guy, so not Autobahn for me, but I'll take speed over work and go with the DSG too. I see an automatic "S" in my future.
I had a 2013 GTI (S I think) with the plaid seats, and now have a 2015 GLI SEL with the (fake) leather.
Plaid seats are better to LOOK at, the leather ones are better to SIT on. So since I can't see the seats while I'm in them but I sure can feel 'em - leather all day. Also, the design of the leather seats on the new GLI is better than the previous one - they are beautiful.
The Autobahn trim on this car is perfect and I wouldn't ask for anything else (or take anything less) in a Jetta GLI. Bravo to VW for including the digital cockpit - that may have sold the car for me.
Getting about time to trade in the 15, the new GLI is a very strong contender. Now the question: is ~60hp and AWD worth the ~15k price difference between it and the Golf R? That's gonna be a tough decision.
Bought this in the 35th Anniversary Edition in pure gray at $2300 off sticker with no factory money available. Preferred the new 7 speed DSG to the manual - a first for me. As said in the review, these are not the short, precise throws of a Mazda Miata. Shifter needs to sit lower. A short throw shifter is a must for me to prefer this to the new DSG. I would only buy it in the 35th Anniversary Edition because of the adaptive suspension not available on the S and the Autobahn. I actually prefer the cloth seats, analog instrument panel, and surely don't miss a sunroof. The wheel styling is light years better than the wheel on the Autobahn trim. My only quibble is where are the fog lights ? ? ? Will we see them on the 2020 model ? Unlike the reviewer, I am so pleased there are no plaid cloth seats. I bought my 2016 GTI manual in the Autobahn trim and one reason I did was to escape the plaid seats. And, though the shift is better than the GLI, I still put an APR short throw shifter with a different shift knob in my GTI. I intend to do an APR Plus tune on the GLI which will take it up around 300 hp and, with the Plus tune, offer me a third party powertrain warranty. Besides that mod, the only thing I've done to the GLI was remove the O.E.M. Hankook Grand Touring A/S tires and replace them with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 +. ultra-high performance tires. Had a 2017 MK 6 GLI DSG - one I bought at almost 8 grand off sticker with no miles after the 2018 GLI was introduced - and one test drive in the new 2019 made me instantly decide to trade. The new MK 7 was that much of an improvement over the MK 6. With the MK 7 VW has truly approached its goal of transforming the GLI into a true sports sedan - a GTI with a trunk.
Haha, launching a manual never gets old :)
How about somewhat deeper bolstering on the seats that are offered in it? Plaid is a GTI thing, it's going to stay a GTI thing. What I WOULD like to see on the GLI is a few more paint color options, especially that "Great Falls Green Metallic" color offered in some of the GTI trims.
Plaid seats across the trims like the vw mk4 gli and 20th ae diffrent badges to differentiat gli and gti and option on leatherette on 35th and autobahn
I would do the Plaid seats in the Autobahn without the Sunroof. Sat in this GLI and the seats are just not as good as the GTI...
Not really sure how that happens since it should be the same seat with different fabric.
@@Osprey1994 According to another review I saw the seats in the GLI are totally different from the GTI, which much less bolstering.
How come the color of your car keeps changing throughout the video?
I’m going to one up you, I’d want the plaid seats in the Golf R. But not just the red plaid seats, but the BLUE ones (blue seems to be the theme of the Golf R). The same blue plaid you get in the very desirable GTE that we don’t get in North America. Now those would look amazing in a Golf R.
I like the way you think!
The Clark plaid should absolutely be available in the GLI, and IMO should be the default material in all trim levels of both the GLI... AND... the GTI. I will always choose the plaid over leather, to the point that I will end up buying a lesser GTI model to be able to get the plaid seats.
And add to that, buying the GLI is much lower on my purchase list because I cannot get the plaid seats. Honestly, if the GLI had plaid cloth, at this point in my life I would choose the GLI over the GTI... just not without plaid.
Add to this. I want the plaid in the Golf R.
kinda wish the summer tire was an option. ever try driving with summer tires in snow?
The base GLI with plaid seats would be perfect for me! As soon as that is a reality, where do I sign?
I would want the plaid seats in the base and 35th edition but leather in the Audobahn since it comes with cooled seats.
Great video, I have a 2015 GLI SE and I think this will be my next upgrade, I like the subtle differences, this is no boy racer look.
don't. your car is better.
I agree with headcas620. Wait a few years for VW to work out the electrical/mechanical gremlins that are common to redesigns, and by then the GLI should come standard with all the bells and whistles that are currently missing from the lower trim levels..
@@nelsonvanvickle8862 I typically don't get the first year of a full redesign just for those reasons, yes I know the platform is not new but with all the extra electronic safety features now available I'll definitely wait for all the Gremlins to be worked out before making the plunge
I love the GLI I owned the 30th edition with all the features. loved loved loved it. This car is very nice too! But I hate that they took out the fog lights and just left fake looking vents.. also call me picky but there's no little compartment for your glasses lol...
Another thing I've noticed is that Everytime they make a new GLI with amazing new features and the GTI power, the very same or next year they release an even fasters GTI with the same new features (or even newer) than the GLI.. that's how I felt when I bought my 30th.
I really loved the plaid seats in my MK6 GTI, but I feel like the MK7 plaid is a bit rougher in texture. I have an autobahn mk7 and I'd have loved plaid in it (if it were the MK6 version), but happy with the leather given the two choices.
Oh! Yes! if it wasn't for those plaids we would have realized that VW is screwing us way before.
engine is exactly 1,984 cc what a coincidence!
I would always forgo leather for the plaid seats, on any trim!
It's obviously artificial induction noise pumped in, those turbo engines never made that much noise with stock intake and exhaust. Definitely not that much. They tried to make it sound as if it has a more NA sound than a turbo sound. That's the dead giveaway.
Oh! No! How can you blame them Germans with fakery like that? They are the most honest to their ultimate end.
@@squidproquo2241 Oh get out of here dude, so what they fudged the numbers on the diesel vehicles. Do you know how many trucks roll coal around here because they mucked with their exhaust? Every single one that has a diesel engine. Maybe every once and a while a stealthy unmodified diesel truck will whistle on by, but most people like them loud and belching smoke. Comparatively the VW's were harmless. But, "there's more of them and it's a multiplicative effect on the environment" are we really going to get into that? If car people cared about the environment that much we wouldn't have the desire for fast cars that are less efficient, and we would be drooling over the Prius. The only other thing I know VW fudges is their power numbers, and my insurance thanks them for that.
Sincerely,
Someone who used to not like VW's.
It's actually not pumped in like other manufacturers. They vibrate the windshield turning it into essentially a massive speaker. It's not bad even though I know it's fake, it's nice to have until I have the money and time to bump up to stage 2. Although I might get a cheap stainless catback and stick with stage 1. It all depends on how willing I am to install an aftermarket down pipe.
@OspreyBravo18 “Oh get out of here dude, so what they fudged the numbers on the diesel vehicles.”
You need to grow up kiddo. Are you sure that it was the only thing they did or do? Many customers even out of the US was complaining that their DSG transmission were nreaking down right after the warranty expired. Did you hear any of them?
“Do you know how many trucks roll coal around here because they mucked with their exhaust?”
Who cares about the exhaust fumes, the act of rigging the ECU’s is unethical. Do you reward the thieves who steal cigarettes from the grocery stores because they are not robbing banks? What kind of distorted reasoning is this?

I like them that way too.

But the mentality that rigs the ECU’s of the cars is not.
“But, "there's more of them and it's a multiplicative effect on the
environment" are we really going to get into that?”
Nope, since your perception of this issue is distorted your presumed counter arguments are not valid. It is not a matter of environment, it is a matter of ETHICS.
“If car people cared about the environment that much we wouldn't have the desire for fast cars that are less efficient, and we would be drooling over the Prius.”
Prius is an engineering masterpiece … you feel the need to mention it because it forces you to admit its existence in the car market. However, as I mentioned above, your perception is utterly distorted about the issue.
“The only other thing I know VW fudges is their power numbers, and my insurance thanks them for that.”
Ha! LOL! That’s right, as long as you benefit from it, it doesn’t matter what kind of crooked scheme is there behind it … It figures!!!
“Sincerely”
With such ethics, you can’t even believe in to yourself if you said this in front of a mirror, LOL!
“Someone who used to not like VW's.”
Once you were ethical ??? It is hard to believe … I think you were always like that.
GTIs have soundaktor, an artificial noisemaker for sport mode.

Autobhan trim with 35th wheels!
gosh darn, my ad blocker keeps giving me playback errors...oh well. My question to VW, when is the HOT Wagon coming; whether it be a GSW GT/GLI, Alltrack GT/GLI, or Golf.R Wagon; when will N. America get a hot wagon. The GLI is nice and all, but I don't want a trunk, but I want a bigger boot than the GTI/Golf.R offers. Never really been a fan of the GLI as it is on the Jetta platform and I've never warmed up to the Jetta; it's just another car with a trunk.
OK1!Get ready and bend over ... it will be here soon for the best screw in your life. This time even better than the rigging ECU's for warranty expirations, and/or diesel emissions.
Plaid seats in all trim levels. I have leather in my Alltrack, but would prefer plaid seats from the European models. Looks much nicer in my opinion.
First things first. Plaid seats are for the GTI. Period. No debate; it's an issue of heritage. Now, as a GTI owner I'm happy to see that the GLI hasn't been neutered in the critical areas of the engine and drive train. For those who want/need a sedan with more back seat room and less of a want/need for cargo space and versatility it's a great choice. Unfortunately, there are some flies in the ointment...
Inexplicably (other than for cost cutting reasons) the GLI has no rear seat HVAC vents, much less separate controls. For a vehicle whose primary advantage over the GTI is rear seat accommodations, that's ridiculous. It may seem a small issue to some but my big dog whose second home is the back seat of my GTI says it's a dealbreaker.
Second, in an unsurprising boneheaded move the US spec 35th Anniversary edition provides adaptive chassis control (i.e. dampers) while the top trim Autobahn does not. That would be absurd enough but in Canada the "35th Anniversary Edition" is an option package rather than a trim level that can be added to any trim level.
Why? Does VW Canada have compromising photos of German VW executives? Considering this isn't the first example of Canadian buyers getting a greater range of choices in VW vehicles compared to folks south of the border, that might be the explanation. More likely, I suspect, is that the supply of suspension components for the GLI is currently limited. I'm guessing that VW managed to find enough to supply the limited edition "35" GLI in the US along with any trim level in the much smaller Canadian market. Once the "35" edition is sold out in the US, I'd expect to see adaptive dampers appear at least in the Autobahn trim level. Until then you can choose between the eye candy of a digital cockpit and adaptive dampers in the US.
Kumo wholeheartedly agrees with your second point.
I would buy plaid seats in the front for mine(35th) if they ever offer it.
TOD???!!👍👍👍. Neat car!!! Man, do they pipe the sound in???👎🏻. I like the Jetta w/ a stick.👍👍. I like the price, like the options and now...can you find this car at a dealer???🤔🤔🤔 And Motoman, I cringe every time you dump the clutch!!! 😂😂😂. And btw, TOD in the 911...nirvana😁😁😁. And a Base car w/ plaid seats and an F’n stick.
That was my second time to the Dragon . . . Both times were 'good' cars like this. Last time was this: th-cam.com/video/wiMlTw392yw/w-d-xo.html - I am giving *serious* consideration to flying into ATL, picking up a 992 and doing the drive up and back.
This one or according 2.0 sport ?
11:47 it's not a rip-off when they're the same company. It would be like accusing Toyota of ripping off Lexus, or Honda ripping off Acura.
Welcome back, M.
I still prefer the T, I don't like the new Jetta, it reminds me of the Atlas and not in a good way.
I would have to see and test both Plaid and Leather in person before I decide. Durability and the way they handle heat is crucial to me, beats looks.
As for the elephant in the room, remember, with great power comes great responsibilities . . . ;)
Apparently, the 'elephant' has a homing beacon in it . . . Coleman is on his way up to the hangar as I type to 'test it'. Ken Saward tomorrow . . . Now, to wrangle the key fob from Kumo . . .
@@MotoManTV hahaha
Well, rare beards attract attention & people gotta see it to believe it.
I still remember my first sighting of one . . . :)
Wow he’s beating the snot out of it
DSG with Leather all the Way!
so test a regular Jetta GLI S, without the dampers is it worth it?
i'm looking at a deal for an S in white at $21,795 with no damper or 35 edition at 0% for 72 months. oh it has a dsg 8 speed transmission. is it a good deal?
great bang for the buck...the only off thing is no fog lights on the base GLI...odd
Great screw for the buck ... Yes, interesting they try to screw us now even without the fog lights.
@@squidproquo2241 You're silly
@buildmorefarms100 I am? Well, still waiting for the fries though.
The fogs get dropped to make space for the Front mounted intercooler.... It is normal on every R model, normally not so on a GTI \ GLI version
@Shayden Ramesar It is good know ... Now I can safely be screwed by VW with mind at ease.
It needs a 5th door and a tablet screen to make the interior more modern.
Really liked the topics you talk about in the review. You have another petrolhead in your subscribers ((:
Yes, I would choose plaid in any trim level that offers ventilated seats.
Ventilation is a leather-only thing.
It’s rare but some manufacturers (Jeep I believe) offer ventilation in a cloth like fabric. I do know and agree that it’s not an option in the Jetta.
@@jeremytd7072 Interesting. I know heated seats come in both fabric and leather, but the only ventilated material I know about is the perforated leather surface.
U did a damn near perfect launch 1:12
Well, thank you!
Those are Dodge charger headlights
Plaid seats on the base GLI.
Nice of you to take these hitchhikers along the ride! 3:08
We made a deal . . . I could use their spot if they got screen time.
I would take the plaid seats in the S trim, and the 35th anniversary trim.
I would buy the '19 manual Jetta GLI in Autobahn with the plaid seats to replace my '10 GTI manual coup with plaid.
Just put a deposit to have one delivered! Question: I have heard you should run premium fuel in this engine? Is that true?
You can run 87-93 on the stock ECU software. The ECU adjusts based on the octane it senses. Don't worry, you won't hurt the car. Also, you can always put higher than 93 octane in it as well, which just burns cooler and protects the motor from detonation. 87 for cruising/daily driving and 93 for more hp/spirited driving.
"Dark ages of the mid-80s...." 😆
Yes, 35, awd preferable
Clark Plaid for life!
If anything the plaid should have at least been on the GLI 35. Personally i would want it on any trim as that is also how i would want my GTI.
Good point!
Definitely would give up leather seats for the plaid cloth seats! Every day of the week.
Was hoping to get something like this as my son's first car to drive; especially a manual. However, it doesn't appear VW put any of the modern safety features on the GLI, probably to keep the cost down...GTI has more safety features it seems. Probably why it's pricier. As much as I like the GLI, for a new driver, better off with a Honda Civic Si...too bad. I don't really care for the looks of the Honda.
An inexperienced driver doesn't need a fast car as a first car. What is wrong with people?
That’s it boys,..and girls,..spin up them tires..
Add 300 horses please. I don't want to tune it
Not without all wheel drive...
